The Boy in the Box was a boy whose naked, extensively beaten body was found on the side of Susquehanna Road, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 25, 1957. He appeared to have been cleaned and freshly groomed, with a recent haircut and trimmed fingernails, although he had suffered extensive physical abuse before he died, with multiple bruises on his body. He was also found to be malnourished The body was covered with scars, some of which were surgical (most notably on his ankle, groin, and chin). The police believe that the cause of death was homicide by blunt force trauma.
The Honolulu Strangler, or Honolulu Rapist, killed 5 women in Honolulu, Hawaii between May of 1985 and April of 1986 and has yet to be identified. Due to its importance as the state's first serial killing, a large task-force was put into place to investigate which also utilized FBI resources. They could determine that these murders were not planned in advance and that the killer would notice women who were alone and seized his opportunity to kill them while they were vulnerable. Because of this, the also hypothesized that the killer lived or even worked near where the murders took place.

The Eliza Battle was a Tombigbee River steamboat that ran a route between Columbus, Mississippi and Mobile, Alabama in the United States during the 1850s. She was destroyed in a fire on the river near modern Pennington, Alabama on March 1, 1858. It was the greatest maritime disaster in Tombigbee River history, with an estimated thirty-three people killed, out of roughly sixty passengers and a crew of forty-five.
