Each week, we will be posting sermons from Avenue Church in Milford, DE.
Avenue United Methodist Church
What does it mean to be wise? In Daniel 2, Daniel and friends have their backs against the wall, tasked to do the impossible. God provides wisdom and knowledge to save their lives and their colleagues. Christians are called to seek wisdom and to live wisely in the land.
This morning we begin a new series, The Daniel Dilemma, where we will look at Daniel 1-6 and how God helped Daniel and friends to remain faithful in a culture of compromise. Today, we look at Daniel 1 and how the currents of exile threatened to erase memories of Yahweh from Daniel and how he made room for God to work in a foreign land.
Pastor Dan looks at the continuing Easter story when Jesus shows himself to the disciples. What happens when Jesus shows up in our lives?
It's Easter Sunday! This morning we worship the Resurrected Christ! Pastor Steve will look at two paintings that convey the hope of the first Resurrection Sunday. Jesus resurrection changes everything! Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed!
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week as we process to the Cross and the empty tomb. This morning, Pastor Neyda shares about Jesus the King- riding into Jerusalem. Is Jesus the King of your heart?
This week we look at John 3:16-17 and how we are called to live out God's love once we've received God's love.
Matthew 25:1-13 | Jesus tells a parable about ten bridesmaids and their ability to be prepared for the coming of the Groom. It teaches us about how we are to live our lives as followers of Jesus.
Jesus sends the disciples out into ministry in Matthew 10, but not without first having an honest conversation about the challenges they will face. Still today, Christians are sent into a world that is not always welcoming. How should we respond when we find ourselves in the midst of wolves?
This week Pastor Neyda looks at Matthew 9:35-10:4 where Jesus teaches his disciples that the fields are ready for harvest- but that the workers are few. God is calling us to the fields!
Jesus consistently ministers in the margins, showing dignity and compassion while healing and setting people free. As we seek to follow the example of Jesus, we are called to the margins and must resist the temptation to call this ministry of mercy something evil.
Within the church, we talk about loving God all the time. Just how do we do that? In Mark 12, Jesus teaches the central message of the Scriptures and how we are to live our love for God by loving those around us.
As we continue our RE:JESUS series, Pastor Neyda looks at how Jesus broke down barriers by building bridges. In our polarized world, Christians have a responsibility to do the same.
Pastor Neyda leads us through our text of how we respond to Jesus when we believe we are too busy.
In Luke 5, Jesus helps Peter and the others with a miraculous catch of fish, and commissions Peter to be a "fisher of people." We look at what this means and how God uses our strengths to participate in the Mission of God.
In Luke 4, Jesus teaches in the Synagogue in Nazareth a sermon that would be remembered for a long time. It was controversial enough that the people tried to kill him. What kind of sermon would do that? How does Jesus' message inform our faith and the life of our church today?
This morning, we celebrate our laity who set an example of Christ-like service. We look at what it means to put our faith in Jesus that invites us to leap into service and ministry.
On the first Sunday of the New Year, we remember the Magi and others who pursued and encountered the light of Christ. May we commit to following Christ's light in 2025.
In the third week of Advent, we consider the joy that is experienced in the routine and mundane parts of our lives by examine the shepherds, who encountered the Heavenly Host during their workday.
As we continue our Advent Journey of Wonder, we look at Mary and the wonder found in anticipation of the birth of the Savior.
The season of Christmas is best observed through the eyes of a child who is filled with child-like wonder. There is plenty of wonder to see, if we have eyes to see it. Joseph's journey is one of wonder as he grapples with Mary's news and the angel's visit.
As we enter Thanksgiving week, we give thanks for the ways God has worked in our lives. We look at the prophet Joel for encouragement on how to see God's activity even through difficult times.
Philippians 2:19-30 | Paul sends Timothy and Epaphroditus for two different reasons to Philippi. We are all sent, but we are not all sent into ministry in the same way. Are you willing to be sent by God?
This morning we look at the Christ Hymn in Philippians 2:1-11. In it, Paul offers Jesus as our model as we are to have the same attitude Christ has in our relationship with others.
Today is ALL SAINTS SUNDAY where we remember the Saints who have gone on to glory and the witness they have provided us. We lift up the families who continue to grieve and pray that we would be faithful witnesses who hear "well done good and faithful servants."
We begin a new series that will cover the big picture of Paul's letter to the Philippians. We will pay particular attention to the ways in which Paul and others sacrifice as an expression of their faith in Jesus Christ. This week, we will look at Philippians 1:18-30 and consider how Paul has courage to sacrifice.
In order to produce "much fruit," disciples of Jesus need a structure, a plan, a rule of life to grow. This week, we look at the practices and structures that have provided structure for generations of Christians as we seek to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells his disciples that they will do even greater things than these. Discipleship means doing what Jesus did so that God can work through us. Join us as we continue our series Practicing the Way of Jesus.
As we practice the way of Jesus, we must first "be" with Jesus. He taught us to remain in him if we want to be fruitful in our Christian walk. This morning we will dive into John 15 and what it means to live life with Jesus.
In the Gospels, Jesus regularly invites listeners to consider a different way of living. As people of The Way, we are often called to "go against the flow" of the world around us.
The call to be disciples of Jesus is a call to apprentice with Jesus, following and doing what Jesus did. As we begin our series, Practicing the Way of Jesus, we look at what it means to apprentice with Jesus.
We kick off our Fall series, Practicing the Way, by consider how we can live the life that God calls us to. We are not called to a belief system, but a way of life only found in Jesus Christ. sorry for the poor audio, we were outside and did not have our normal methods of capturing the audio. Series is based on John Mark Comer's book, Practicing the Way of Jesus.

Matthew 20:1-10 is a parable of Jesus about grace and the Kingdom of God. Grace and God's Kingdom is upside-down and can be infuriating- until we realize that we are recipients of that same extravagant grace.
We're back! After a couple weeks away, the Sunday Remix is back as Pastors Steve and Neyda discuss the importance of baptism in the life of the church.
