Malachi 4 Tells Us God Takes Care of His Own and that Those Who Wait Upon Him and “fear my {God's} name” Will Not Be Disappointed MESSAGE SUMMARY: Isaiah, in Isaiah 64:3,8, says that God is the awesome God who created everything: “When you did awesome things that we did not look for, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence . . . But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”. In Isaiah 65:11-13, Isaiah expresses God's disappointment in being snubbed by His chosen people, the Jews. However, Isaiah expresses how pleased God is with being welcomed by the Gentiles {my servants}: “'But you who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who set a table for Fortune and fill cups of mixed wine for Destiny, I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.' Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be put to shame.'". Malachi tells us, in Malachi 4:1-3, that God will punish evildoers while sparing those who fear His name: “For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the LORD of hosts.". God takes care of His own, and those who fear the Lord and who wait upon the Lord will not be disappointed. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, help me to be still and to wait patiently for you in silence. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 125). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will entrust to Him my future. I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. “Immanuel, ‘God With Us,' changes everything. Under the New Covenant, God is not only with us—Christ lives in us, and the Holy Spirit rests upon us. Join us for a transformative message that will call you into deeper realms of God's presence and power.
Elohim, El Shaddai, El Elyon, God of Isra-El became Immanu-El by coming to earth over 2000 years ago. Prophesied some 700 years earlier, God through the prophet Isaiah predicted the Messiah’s birth, that God would be with us. Matthew 1 quotes Isaiah’s foretelling in verse 23: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name ‘Immanuel’ (which means, God with us).” We as God’s people realize that God’s presence is among us now because of the redemptive work Jesus accomplished on the cross. We are grateful that we do not serve a distant god, but a God who is with us and intimately acquainted with all our ways. Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” For Scripture, notes, upcoming events, & more: http://bible.com/events/49357682
God's Gifts to Us | God gifts His Spirit Sunday, December 8, 2024 Peter Smith John 16.4-15 Before Jesus' ministry, we have a limited view of the Spirit of God and His work. But the prophet Ezekiel gives us a window into what will happen when the Spirit comes in power. Jesus tells us what the Spirit will accomplish upon His coming. Paul tells the Corinthians about the gifts that the Spirit brings, the Galatians about the fruit that comes as a result of His presence, and the Ephesians about the sealing that He will complete in His work. By the Spirit of God, we can be people that keep giving because of the gifts God has given to us.

Lewis’s The Weight of Glory, an excerpt from John Owen’s Christologia, and Hebrews Chapter 4, to provide insight into what the questions and the way they were framed says about our understanding of the Gospel.

Sign-up for my free 20-day devotional, The Word Before Work Foundations, at http://TWBWFoundations.com--Series: Wisdom for Work from ProverbsDevotional: 2 of 7Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans….In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps….The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord. (Proverbs 16:3, 9, 33)In his terrific memoir, On Writing, novelist Stephen King says, “I used to tell interviewers that I wrote every day except for Christmas, the Fourth of July, and my birthday. That was a lie. I told them that because…I didn't want to sound like a workaholic dweeb…The truth is that when I'm writing, I write every day…not working is the real work."I deeply resonate with that last line for two reasons. First, because I (like you) love the work God has given me to do. Second, because rest is an act of faith—it's a way of trusting that the world will keep spinning even if I'm not doing the spinning!Yes, Scripture frequently commands us to hustle and work hard (see Colossians 3:23). But it also tells us to trust that it is God—not us—who produces results in our work (see Deuteronomy 8:18). And that trust ought to lead to a deep rest for our souls (see Matthew 11:29).What does it look like to hold this tension between “trust, hustle, and rest” well? Solomon answers that question systematically in Proverbs 16.First, Solomon calls us to trust by instructing us to “Commit to the Lord whatever you do.” Before we roll up our sleeves, we are to commit our work to God and recognize that whatever fruit our work produces is “from him” (Romans 11:36).Second, Solomon calls us to hustle by saying, "In their hearts humans plan their course.” While God has clearly called us to express our trust in him, he has also given us brains to “plan,” strategize, and execute our plans at work. Finally, Solomon calls us to rest. “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.” In other words, if we have trusted in God for the results of our work and done our part to work “with all [our] heart” (Colossians 3:23), we can rest knowing that “the lot is cast” and the results are in God's hands.I don't know about you, but I need constant reminders to trust, hustle, and rest. If you need the same, let me encourage you to write down one of the following three reminders wherever you'll see them as you work:Trust (Deuteronomy 8:18), Hustle (Colossians 3:23), and Rest (Matthew 11:29)“Without God, we cannot. Without us, God will not.” — Saint Augustine“My job is faithfulness. God's job is fruitfulness.” — John PiperWant to see one of these on the lockscreen of your phone? Download a graphic here. With today's passage in mind, I pray that you will work diligently with your hands and gently with your soul, trusting that the outcomes are in the Lord's hands!
In this message from Terry Timm, we explore the mysterious Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit— the divine dance of love that invites us to be co-heirs, co-sufferers, and co-glorified with Christ. We are adopted as God's beloved children, created to sing the song of love to the world. THis message concludes with Malcolm Guite reading his poem, "The Triune Poet."

The babe of Bethlehem. Immanuel. Remember the promise of the angel? “‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear...
Jesus came once and he will come again. With every passing Christmas, we look back to how Jesus came as a baby, but now we also look forward to being one Christmas closer to him coming again.
Jesus's first earthly home was the womb of a woman. He took off his glory to come as a baby. All the prophecies were fulfilled in a moment. Jesus has come as God with us.
The prophet Isaiah points to the Messiah coming in light of the dark age he lived in. The promise of Jesus was a hopeful joy and it still is today. He is our wonderful counselor, prince of peace, Imannuel. He is with us in all things.
