In a recent development within the realm of higher education, Governor Shapiro's Blueprint for Higher Education has sparked discussions surrounding accessible and affordable educational opportunities, coupled with transformative outcomes. At the forefront of this conversation is Thaddeus Stevens College, a state institution distinct from the PASSHE system, which has garnered attention for its impressive statistics. Thaddeus Stevens College boasts remarkable outcomes, with 97 percent of its graduates securing employment upon graduation. This figure is accompanied by a striking ratio of 22 job opportunities available per graduate, highlighting the college's commitment to equipping students with practical skills sought after by employers. Moreover, an impressive 95 percent of graduates choose to remain in Pennsylvania, contributing to the state's workforce and economy. During a discussion with University President Pedro Rivera on The Spark, the focus was on the college's mission to foster equitable access to higher education. Thaddeus Stevens College actively supports this mission by providing grant funding tailored to qualifying students. These funds cover essential expenses such as tuition, housing, meals, tools, and books, thereby alleviating financial barriers that often hinder students' pursuit of higher education. The college's emphasis on practical skills training aligns with the evolving demands of the job market, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet industry needs. This approach not only enhances students' employability but also contributes to Pennsylvania's economic vitality by supplying skilled workers across various sectors. Thaddeus Stevens College stands out as a beacon of opportunity, offering a pathway to success for students from diverse backgrounds. By prioritizing accessibility and affordability, the college is advancing Governor Shapiro's vision of a higher education system that empowers individuals and transforms communities. As discussions surrounding Governor Shapiro's Blueprint for Higher Education continue, Thaddeus Stevens College serves as a compelling example of how institutions can achieve meaningful outcomes while prioritizing the needs of their students and the broader community. With its commitment to equitable access and transformative education, the college remains a driving force in shaping the future of higher education in Pennsylvania.Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Many of you know my faith journey and background, but many of you might not. I invite you to join in on this podcast given by my friend April Tribe Giauque, titled Why I Stay. With our friend, Ivette Lee, we'll discuss matters of faith, particularly our unique faith as Latter-day Saints, and why we stay active in the church we love. We hope to bring awareness to those who question and to strengthen, uplift, and inspire those who need assurance of God's eternal plan, especially during these troubling times.

Big Idea: Christ has given us saving faith, so we must live with hope in the Glory of God! 1. Christ has given us a saving faith, so we must discern the signs of God. (John 11:38-44) I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” (John 11:42) By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. (Hebrews 11:3) The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1) 2. Christ has given us a saving faith, so we must confront our doubts. (John 11:45-53) Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him, but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council and said, “What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.” (John 11:45-48) "So how does doubt become unbelief? Unbelief is the decision to live your life as if there is no God. It is a deliberate decision to reject Jesus Christ and all that He stands for. But doubt is something quite different. Doubt arises within the context of faith. It is a wistful longing to be sure of the things in which we trust. But it is not, and need not, be a problem. Just because I can't prove my faith in God doesn't mean that it is wrong." -Dr. Allister McGrath 3. Christ has given us a saving faith, so we must die to ourselves. (John 11:49-57) But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.” He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day on they made plans to put him to death. (John 11:49-53)

This episode subject has been on my mind for a long time. It is not easy to talk about suicide prevention. However, I guess not talking about it is even worse… because everything we don't talk about tends to get infected with shame and guilt and misunderstandings and loneliness. Therefore I have taken the beautiful, meaningful and globally organised walk called; Darkness into Light as part of the theme for this episode. If you or any person you know have suicidal thoughts, please follow the instructions I am providing Figure of today In the figure of today I talk about the organisation of the Darkness into Light walk. Where it originated and what its purpose is. The walk symbolises going from darkness, early in the morning to the rising of the sun and the hope a new day brings. In the references you can find more information about this walk and you can see if there is one organised near you. How is this important? To be able to move from darkness into a life of light can be a road of hardship, sadness and finally hope. For those that are witnessing others struggling I am giving you the warning signs to look out for and what to do to prevent someone from taking their own life. What's Gestalt in all of this? The subject of today's episode is at the core of existentialism and the ultimate concerns like death, freedom, isolation and meaninglessness. I feel I need to let this be for the moment and move to the understanding of what people with suicidal ideations experience. The desperation they feel. I rather want to talk about what we can do, because there's always something to do. We first met Alyestal Thomas when she shared her first birth story with us (Ep. 19 |The Power Within) and were delighted when she reached out to share her second. This pregnancy would bring both mental and physical challenges for Alyestal to navigate. Her anemia had brought on intense exhaustion that would require continuous monitoring throughout her pregnancy. And while at times she would feel she had strong management of that, her mental health suffered quite a bit. Her prenatal anxiety was rising, with panic attacks about 4 to 5 times a week. She knew to be in a space to birth her baby the way she wanted to; she had to confront this challenge and be honest about it. So when she connected with her midwives, she was open with them about how she was feeling about her pregnancy. They were able to connect her with a therapist to unpack her feelings and fear. Therapy affirmed the challenges of being pregnant during a pandemic paired with not always having her husband present when she needed his support and advocacy. And that she was allowed the space to grieve missing and losing expectations that she had for this pregnancy.Through that heart work, she gained clarity about staying centered in her strengths and weaknesses when birthing her children. Alyestal knew that her original birth plan of laboring at home as long as possible and arriving at the hospital when ready would not be the best choice under the COVID restrictions. Having a home birth would benefit her best, and she began preparing her home and support team for that shift. With her first birth, Alyestal experienced a TV-worthy breaking of her waters. A concern she had this time around is that this wouldn't be the case, and she wouldn't know when she was in labor. However, a week before her daughter was due; she had another TV-worthy breaking of her waters. COntractions were a bit inconsistent, but she reached out to her midwives to keep them informed. As labor progressed, she and her midwives decided their arrival would be best. When they arrived at 1:30 am, they did a cervical check, and Alyestal was 2cm dilated. After some discussion about the next steps, she consented to a stretch and sweep. Her midwives left and instructed her to call when she felt they were needed again. That call came at 2:30 am with the midwives arriving at 3 am - and Alyestal soon after meeting her daughter 4 mins to 5 am. When describing her birth, Alyestal expresses that "birth was everything that didn't know she wanted it to be and birth was everything she wanted it to be." Feelings that she wishes for every birthing individual to feel - a sense of comfort and ease.Ad:The Birth Story Love Letter | a unique offering that captures your personal experience. This offering is a keepsake or memento of sorts. Welcome back to this episode. So today, ladies, I want you to stand up strong. Go ahead. Actually, if you're not driving, go ahead, stand up, put your shoulders back, put your chest out. Brace yourself with your feet a little bit shorter. We shoulder length apart and just look forward and stand strong young lady because you, my friend are a lighthouse. I don't know why a lighthouse has just kept kind of appearing to me as I'm driving through. I'll see something that says light house, or I drove, I drove by a church that has a program called the lighthouse, but I decided to go ahead and talk to you ladies about a lighthouse because as I started studying and looking through things and thinking about the lighthouse, it made me think of you ladies, because you ladies are a lighthouse. So let's talk about it. A lighthouse is a tower or a beacon or a structure containing a light to warn our guide ships coming to shore or to help assist with aerial navigation. It is a powerful light that cuts through the darkness. It stands strong through damaging storms. It AIDS in navigation for the loss, for the weary, for the confuse. And even for the disoriented, it is a symbol of strength and individuality or uniqueness. It is a symbol for safety. It withstands those powerful storms. So it is resilient in nature. It gives a sense of hope and a safe Haven when the ship or the captain is, has been out to sea and they are pulling in and they finally see that light, that small glimmer of light, it provides hope in the distance for them to be guided safely to Harbor. A lighthouse is something that overcomes challenges and adversities. You can think about it in that way, where no matter what kind of storm or rocks or waves are on the shore, no matter what kind of damaging winds, the light house stands and the light burns on. The other neat thing about lighthouses are that they're local hated strategically and intense. They're not everywhere. They're specifically placed in areas in which it is dark. It is in an area where, where it will light up the most hazardous or dangerous of coastlines. So it's strategically placed intentionally placed in the most hazardous and most dangerous places. And this is to guide the safe entry of ships to harbors, or again, that aerial navigation. So while these were wildly used in the past, operational lighthouses have declined. So the use of operational lighthouses has declined. Interesting. I feel like because the use of lighthouses have declined because of the, of the maintenance of the lighthouse. Now, I find that interesting because it makes me think about our culture. If we are lighthouses symbolically, how expensive does it have to get until we decide that we need to become an operational and stop shining our light because it gets too expensive in this culture. It's too expensive to stay peculiar or stay unique, or stay individual as an individual that shines light in the darkness through challenges through adversities. Think about that. How it's expensive. Does it have to get for us to go ahead and throw in the towel and shut down our lights? Just a thought that I want you guys to think about this. The other neat thing that I think about with lighthouses is that the job of the light house keeper. So the light house building foundation is strong, but there needed to be a light house keeper to ensure that light kept burning so that it would never go out. The person who tended to the lighthouse was keeping the light so that even in the most dire circumstances, the light would continue to burn so that people could find their way in darkness. I think about the light housekeeper as our God, the God is always there keeping us and the Holy spirit within us is always burning as long as we decide to stay operational in that function of shining light. Right? I found this very inspiring when I started to think about what a light house does, what it's for and the spiritual connection of, or the, I guess, the symbolism that I think of when I think of the job of a lighthouse to be the only glimmer of light in the darkest of the dark, the only glimmer of hope in the most hazardous, confused, disoriented situation, that my sister is what we are called for to be light for others, to be a glimmer of hope for others, to always shine the light that is within us and never let it burn out. So that at any point, anyone coming into our circumstances in our life, in our circle, if they are suffering through a storm, if they are walking through darkness, we can be that glimmer of hope and that light that helps guide them into shore safely back to where it is they need to be to light themselves up again. I just, I find it's so parallel. And especially when you think about the fact that because of the expense, a lot of lighthouses has gone have gone on operational. They've stopped operating because of the expense that just reminds me of the culture in which we live. Everything always pounding against us to try to tell us that it is too expensive to continue to shine our light through all of this darkness. Think about 2020. We were pounded and pounded and pounded with confusion and anger and hate. And those of us who were symbolically house chose to keep shining no matter what was happening, everybody around us could see that we're still standing strong. We're still that structure. We're still that beacon of hope. We're still that person that can guide people back to shore, back to a safe place. We still help the lost navigate their way. The weary come find rest and peace with us. We were not the ones creating the division. We were creating unity through loving and shining our light on others. That's what a lighthouse is. It stands strong, despite adversity, despite challenges, despite the expense, it stays in operation 24 seven to shine the light through the darkness. So, wow, that was just something that for whatever reason, the Holy spirit dropped in me. And so I looked up some verses to see what I could find that would parallel or align. And some of the verses that I came across were John eight, 12. Again, Jesus spoke to them saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. I don't know about you. But that to me is paralleled with what we're talking about. Being that light house, Matthew five 14 through 16, you are the light of the world. A city set on a Hill cannot be hidden nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand. And it gives light to all in the house in the same way. Let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven, give glory to our light house, keeper, our God, wow. Psalm 43, three sent out your light and your truth. Let them lead me. Let them bring me to your Holy Hill and to your door. Guide them back, guide them back to the shore, to the safe place, to God's arms. I mean, so good. I feel like so good ladies. I want you to think about how you stand strong and who it is. God's called you to be the light that he's put within you. The Holy spirit that is moving and burning within you. He has so equipped you to be that light, be that shimmer, that glimmer of hope to all of those around you. And even when you are feeling in a dark place or in a place where challenge after challenge is coming and beating up against you like the waves do against the rocks. That's a time for you to burn even brighter, praise, even harder, seek out the other lighthouses in your life to help them guide you. You know, sometimes we are on those ships in the sea that need to find that tiny little glimmer of light up on that hillside to help guide us, find other lighthouses in your life that you can go to when you are the captain on a ship that is sailing through some storms and sailing through the dark. All right, ladies, I we'd love to pray for you today. So God, I want to come to you today and just thankfulness and praise. I want to praise you for each and every woman listening to this podcast today, God, every family represented here today. I speak blessings over them. Now in the name of Jesus, I speak your hope, your light, your strength, your wisdom, your peace, your safe place that you give them to come hide. I pray that they are overwhelmed with that peace and that love today. God, I pray that they walk strong in the Holy spirit, equipped miraculous gifts. You've given them on the inside so that they may be a shining light to all of those that encounter them. Thank you God, for every single heart that is touched today, that is changed today. That is reminded today of how much you love her. Thank you God. For changed hearts, transformed minds and awakened spirits. Thank you God. For shining light upon the gifts that you have given your children of the promise. We say yes to you, God. And we say amen. In the name of Jesus. Amen guys. I will see you guys on the next episode. Matthew 5:13-16,MSG- Let me tell you why you are here... You’re here to be light... God is not a secret to be kept...If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—SHINE!! Here’s the thing, being light comes from an assurance that God will be exactly who and what He told us He would. So if he says, shine, shine. What every believer has to come to terms with is the fact that God is absolutely sending each of us into this broken, corrupt, confused, deceived world for one reason!! Don’t think I’m going to hide you under something, I’m putting your out there to shine. Daniel is one of my favorite example of this. Especially right now, with the climate of our world. Daniel 1:6-7,NKJV- “Now from among those of the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. To them the chief of the eunuchs gave names: he gave Daniel the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abed-Nego.” Babylon wanted to erase all trace of God from the earth. This is where God inspired hope comes in. Remember, hope is this fixed, confident expectation. And according to Romans, we are to be bubbling over with this kind hope. This is why the book of Hebrews reinforces the reality that our faith is substance, assurance, the confirmation of the things we HOPE for. Here’s one thing for certain, the more we allow the Holy Spirit to inspire us, the brighter our hope, our confidence in Him shines. Understand, God is sending each of us into the world, but we will never change the world being conformed to it. Paul quoting the prophet Isaiah says, “Come out from among them a be separate” (Remember Moses) Daniel 6, King Darius places Daniel over all the nations affairs because God gave Daniel an excellent spirit. But all the corrupt politicians tried setting a trap for Daniel. They changed the laws of the land. Please understand, satan hasn’t changed, he still wants desperately to erase all trace of God. And in the natural it all looked like their plan worked. They threw Daniel in with the lions. Everybody say, “But God!” There’s not one time in scripture where there’s great victory without great challenge. So, hold fast your confession of hope! Because we are light! The enemy knows all he’s got to do is shake our feelings just a little, so lets prove him wrong. 2 Corinthians 3:4-5,CEV- “We are sure about all this. Christ makes us sure in the very presence of God. We don't have the right to claim that we have done anything on our own. God gives us what it takes to do all we do.” Zechariah 4:6,NKJV- So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.” Stop worrying about what’s going on around you. Stop looking at the things that are seen, and get focused on the things that are unseen. Hebrews 2, paraphrase, It’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we don’t drift off. God didn’t put angels in charge of this business of salvation that we’re dealing with here. He made us like Him with the brightness of Eden; Then He put us in charge of His entire handcrafted world. Ephesians 2, Because of His great love for us He made us alive together with Christ and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. 2 Peter 1:3-4,NKJV- His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature. Until we embrace this revelation concerning who we are, this world we’ve been born into and the realities of it will remain some mysterious, out of reach idea that’s really not for us to understand. From the beginning, God’s original assignment to Adam is still His plan; “I’ve given you dominion over all the earth.” Understand, we’re not just citizens of Heaven, we’re heirs to the Kingdom, appointed ambassadors of our King, assigned here to establish the very same dominion our Father gave to Adam. Empowered by the Holy Spirit. This is why Peter tells us in the book of Acts, when the Holy Spirit shows up and infills the believers, “This is what was spoken by the prophet Joel.” Joel, The day of the Lord is upon you. Ahead of you lies a land as beautiful as Eden. The Lord says, Turn to Me, give Me your hearts, for I am merciful and compassionate, filled with unfailing love. Look, I’m sending you new wine and oil, enough to satisfy. Don’t be afraid. Instead be glad and rejoice in your God! I will restore all that was lost, stolen, or destroyed. And you will know that I am the Lord you God. Isaiah 43, paraphrase, Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “For your sake I will send to Babylon, and bring your enemies down as fugitives. I am the LORD, your Holy One, The Creator of Israel, your King. And just like I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses and drowned them beneath the waves, I snuffed them out like a smoldering candlewick. That’s nothing compared to what I am going to do. I am about to do something new. Look it’s already! Can’t you see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” Remember what Peter says, what you see here today is the start of what was prophecied by the prophet Joel. God empowered His church to establish His Kingdom on this earth. Make no mistake, God is returning for a glorious church, without spot or blemish. Ephesians 5,25-27,32,NKJV- “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” God is without a doubt preparing His bride, the church for His return. So until He does, lets be about His work. Let’s shine with a fixed, confident, expectation, with some God inspired hope. It’s interesting Peter quotes Joel at the birth of the church. Joel actually means, “Yahweh is God” We have to see spiritually, what Joel was, to a deceived, rebellious, confused people of Israel, the church of Jesus Christ is to the world today. Both Joel and the church called for repentance of the people, both were vessels of revelation, inspired expressions of hope, and both prophetic voices to the people. Listen to Jesus’ words again in Matthew 5, You’re here to be light, if I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there—SHINE!!
This sermon was preached by Matt Kaiser, on January 31st, 2021.
Matthew 5:13-16,MSG- Let me tell you why you are here... You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—SHINE!! Jesus says this in John’s gospel, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me walks in that light." I don't know if you've ever thought about it, but light never tries to be light. If I make you light-bearers, you didn't think I would hide you under a bucket, did you? This is why our hope has to stay fixed on Him. Here’s the thing, if you're born again, you are light, and people will be drawn to it. God designed it this way because He created humanity. He knows that in the heart of every human lies the desire to be connected to Jesus, even if they don't realize it yet. And regardless of your style, or personality, the power of the gospel will work through anyone who will trust in it more than their own abilities. So be light. And I really think the fire that keeps our light burning is God inspired hope. Vines dictionary, HOPE- a favorable, fixed, confident expectation. The happy anticipation of good. Think about it, what if you were overflowing with hope? I know I would much rather hang around those kind of people. Hebrews 10:23-25,NKJV- Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Remember, hope is this fixed, confident, expectation. But I can’t help but wonder of there are some who may have lost their hope, either in the middle of the storm, or for some because things have gotten nice and comfortable. Maybe this is why in v.35 the writer reminds us to hold fast our confidence. Why God? Because your My light in this dark world. And your hope in Me keeps your light burning. Remember what Jesus told us in Matthew, If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—SHINE!! For the born again, this kind of hope, or should we say expectation, allows us to see into God’s world. After all, He is the God of hope. Romans 15:13,AMP- May the God of your hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing, through the experience of your faith, that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope. Story about a survivor of a shipwreck. He found himself stranded on some small island. After several weeks, discouragement set in. Heaven seemed silent and he was on the verge of giving up. As he set there distraught and broken, seemingly hopeless, a small thunderstorm rolled through and lightening struck the roof of his thatch hut and it caught fire. As he sat on the beach crying a coast guard boat pulled on to the beach."How did you find me?""We saw the smoke from the fire you built signaling for help.” Here’s the thing, even when it looks its worst, never forfeit your hope. This is why it’s so important to have people around you that will encourage you. God asked Abraham, is anything to hard for the Lord? Let this truth settle into your thinking, we are people of God. And of all people, we should be the ones overflowing with a confident anticipation of good. Bubbling over with God inspired hope. What if we were a little more intentional about helping one another stir up a little confident anticipation that God is still the Almighty. Here’s one thing for certain, the more we allow the Holy Spirit to inspire us, the brighter our hope, our confidence in Him shines. A major key to keeping this kind of God inspired hope up in our lives is by allowing the Holy Spirit to inspire our thinking. Remember what Jesus told us, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me walks in that light." In Matthew and Luke, Jesus said, “The light of the body is the eye, and if the eye is single, the whole body will be full of light.” Our challenge today is that we’re so double, triple, minded. Seriously, who knows how bombarded our minds really are with everything but Him. This is why Paul reminds us in Ephesians 4, “Stop going along with the empty-headed, mindless crowd.” We have to make room in our thinking for some God inspired hope. After all, it’s only God inspired hope that faith can actually be the substance of according to Hebrews 11. Romans 4 reminds us that when everything was hopeless, Abraham believed God anyway, choosing to live his life solely on what God told him. This is why He inspire us to be transformed. To get our expectations up. Seriously, today’s the day the Lord has given us, so why not start right now getting our hopes up? Remember hope, a favorable, fixed, confident expectation. The happy anticipation of good. The Bible is full of inspiring stories of how to tap into this kind of hope, right in the middle of very challenging circumstances. Acts 16:25-26,NIV- About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. This is why Paul instructed us to cast down every though that tries to exalt itself above who we are in Christ. And help each other stir up hope. Right now we should be expecting the God of the Bible to be exactly that? Let me ask you this, would you say you’re overflowing with expectation right now? Do you have a happy anticipation of good in this current situation? In other words, you got any hope? One certainty that God has shown me as I grow closer to Him is that He wants us in total expectation and dependency on Him. One of my favorite statements from King David is, “I will pitch my tent in the land of hope.” Here’s thing, it takes absolutely no faith to be negative, discouraged, unbelieving, critical and judgemental, but that’s not who we are! Let’s stop allowing the things around us dictate who and what we are!! Psalm 37:1-6,NKJV- Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.” We’re the light of the world. This is why God tells us, IfI make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—SHINE!!

Advent is here! Our new advent sermon series is called "Let there be light." Jesus is the light of the world. The light in the darkness helps us to see and brightens things up. Join us as we explore how Jesus is the light in our world even in these challenging times. Pastor Preston explores how God is bringing light into darkness from the very beginning.
We began the season of Advent with a new series called Great Light. Together, we talked about God’s hope, peace, joy, and love—the promises that sustain us as we wait to see the dawn of Jesus’ birth. This week, Patrick shared about how we can discern true hope through the light of God’s love.

S1E12 'Light Hope' hits us with a huge bundle of exposition (and a talking horse), so Nero and Jane dig through the information to figure out what really matters, and why this episode works as well as it does when it is 75 percent talking about lore. Plus, in the Spoiler Zone, they discuss Light Hope and what she represents on the show in detail.
Instead of getting all wrapped up in all that's scary and wrong in the world right now - and there is plenty of that to go around - I think it's vital that we all focus on what we can do to be part of the solution instead being part of the problem. There are people fighting over bottled water and toilet paper (seriously - that's a thing) because they're scared. As creators, we have to focus on how we can speak in to the world of our audience and provide help and solutions instead of fear and panic. That's what we're talking about in this episode.
