Christian, remember what story you live in. Whatever struggles or challenges are going on in your life today, they are but skirmishes in a long spiritual war that began in the garden and will end when Satan is cast into the lack of fire forever.
Why do we love to watch movies where the main character is the hero? Why do we like to read stories about people who have done something courageous? I think it is because deep within us we have a longing to live this life heroically. We were created to live courageously but over time we have been discouraged from living heroically. Come along with me on the podcast as we look at how we can break out of passivity and live in courage. Mark 16:1-8 The women hear the news of Jesus' resurrection… and then they run away and tell no one out of fear. But we do know the story. So at some point they must have overcome their fear. Courage is not the absence of fear – it is facing it and refusing to let it stop us.

We all have days that break us, from minor mishaps (like a disastrous zoo trip) to deep trauma. But what if those struggles didn't leave us broken? This message explores the incredible transformation of Peter and John, who went from hiding and denying Jesus after his crucifixion to becoming bold, unafraid leaders. Discover how their story, and the modern concept of Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG), shows that when we stop trying to control our lives and rely on the power and presence in the name of Jesus Christ, we can emerge from trial stronger, more resilient, and more courageous than ever before. fmhouston.com

Read OnlineJesus said: “I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.” John 10:11–13What is it that makes a shepherd “good?” A shepherd's duties require great sacrifice and time. Like a mother who is always attentive to her newborn, a shepherd devotes his time and energies to the care of his flock. In biblical times, shepherds often lived in caves on the outskirts of towns, where there were plenty of green pastures, space for the sheep to roam, and water sources. The caves provided a place of safety at night and shelter from the elements. During the day, the shepherd watched over the flock in an almost fatherly way, knowing that if he were to neglect his duties and become inattentive, a sheep could wander off or fall victim to a pack of wolves.Jesus expands this familiar image to convey an even greater reality of divine love and sacrifice. In today's Gospel, Jesus takes this image of a shepherd to a whole new level. He says: “A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Though this might not have been part of the normal job description of a shepherd, perhaps those who were listening would have made a connection. Some might have understood what Jesus taught in a figurative way, calling to mind the time and commitment shepherds make. And though there is a figurative lesson to be learned, Jesus' teaching was more than that.Jesus first identified Himself as the Good Shepherd. He then defines what that means: He will lay down His life for His sheep. Though His listeners likely missed His meaning, Saint John, while writing his Gospel, fully understood Jesus' words to be not only figurative but also literal—Jesus would die on the Cross for the sins of His sheep. The metaphor continues with Jesus contrasting a hired worker with a true shepherd of his own sheep. In the face of danger, a hired worker flees for his own safety, while the shepherd stands and fights for his sheep, even to death. This clearly depicts what Jesus has done for us, but it also reveals our duty toward all of God's people, His flock. As members of Christ's Body, the Church, we are called to share in His shepherding mission. Our vocations will especially dictate to us ways in which we are called to do so. Parents, for example, must be so devoted to their children that they value their children's lives more than their own. Priests and religious are called to be shepherds who guide and protect their flocks spiritually. Each of us, however, must participate in Christ's shepherding mission in the ways we are called. While the way this is lived will vary, the degree to which it is lived must not. We are all called to lead lives that are sacrificial, selfless, and wholly self-giving. Courageously and completely, we must lay our lives down for others, imitating the Good Shepherd's commitment to His flock. In communion with the Good Shepherd, we are invited to show this courage in daily acts of charity, fidelity to our commitments, and steadfast love for those entrusted to our care. Through this radical love, we reveal Christ's presence to the world and share in His mission to gather all into one fold under the divine Shepherd. As we continue to celebrate the joy of the Resurrection, we remember that this joy was won through the courageous love of our Good Shepherd.Reflect today on Jesus' perfect fulfillment of His mission to be the Good Shepherd. As you ponder His courage, sacrifice, and selfless love, know that He not only acts as the Good Shepherd to you, but He also invites you to share in His shepherding. How courageous are you when given the opportunity to be selfless for the good of another? How willing are you to seek the others' salvation, even at great cost to yourself? Charity is at the heart of Jesus' mission, and that same charity must permeate everything we do as we relate to those whom we are called to love. Honor and thank the Good Shepherd by participating in His mission and laying down your life for God's flock. My Good Shepherd, You have laid down Your life for us, Your sheep, dying a painful death on the Cross. Your courage and sacrifice save us from sin and the evil one, opening the path to eternal life. I accept Your selfless sacrifice in my life and commit to share in that sacrifice by laying my life down for others, so that they will come to know You and share in eternal life. Episode Summary. Confrontation. It's the least enjoyable part of leadership, but absolutely essential for effectiveness for any husband, father, coach, or team leader in business or the church. Today, we look into Nehemiah 5, where Nehemiah puts on a “clinic in wise confrontation” from which leaders can learn much. For Further Prayerful Thought:Why did Nehemiah get angry? Why don't Christians get angrier at the exploitation of the weak, poor, and marginalized in our culture? What stood out to you about the way Nehemiah confronted the nobles and leaders about exploiting the poor? Why do you think it was successful? What is your emotional reaction to the word, accountability? What have you learned about when accountability works and when it fails? Most people don't like to talk about money, but as a courageously sacrificial church, we must understand that our money isn't ours but God's. It means we must be willing to lose something in order to gain a greater reward as we follow the example of Jesus and give generously, as our God has been generous with us.
We're starting "Living Courageously", a new series based on the book of Joshua in the Old Testament. We join the story with Joshua, the new leader of Israel, about to lead God's people into the Promised Land – but is the victory as straightforward as it seems?

35 Let your loins be girt, and lamps burning in your hands.Sint lumbi vestri praecincti, et lucernae ardentes in manibus vestris, 36 And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately.et vos similes hominibus exspectantibus dominum suum quando revertatur a nuptiis : ut, cum venerit et pulsaverit, confestim aperiant ei. 37 Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and passing will minister unto them.Beati servi illi quos, cum venerit dominus, invenerit vigilantes : amen dico vobis, quod praecinget se, et faciet illos discumbere, et transiens ministrabit illis. 38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.Et si venerit in secunda vigilia, et si in tertia vigilia venerit, et ita invenerit, beati sunt servi illi. 39 But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken open.Hoc autem scitote, quoniam si sciret paterfamilias, qua hora fur veniret, vigilaret utique, et non sineret perfodi domum suam. 40 Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not, the Son of man will come.Et vos estote parati : quia qua hora non putatis, Filius hominis veniet.St Raymond, eminent minister of the sacrament of Penance, was a priest of the Order of St Dominic, celebrated for his virtues, his miracles and his writings on Canon Law. He died A.D. 1275.Here are some concrete ways we can be more like him today:St. Raymond was a master of canon law, but he didn't use knowledge to dominate others. He used it to clarify, protect, and heal.Seek truth seriously (study, listen, think deeply).Speak truth with charity, not harshness.Use knowledge to serve people, especially when they're confused or vulnerable.Ask yourself: Does my understanding help others find peace and justice? As a confessor and advisor, Raymond emphasized compassion—especially for sinners trying to return to God.Be patient with people's struggles.Make forgiveness easier, not harder.Assume good will before judging motives. He reminds us that law and rules exist for the salvation of souls, not the other way around.Despite his brilliance, Raymond lived simply and accepted responsibilities only when needed.Do the work in front of you well, even if it's unnoticed.Avoid chasing recognition.Say yes to service when it's asked of you in love and obedience.Holiness for him wasn't dramatic—it was steady.St. Raymond advised kings and helped confront moral failures at the highest levels of power.Be willing to speak up when something is wrong.Do so respectfully, without pride or anger.Stand with those harmed by injustice.Truth without courage stays silent; courage without humility becomes harsh. He held both. His effectiveness flowed from a deep spiritual life.Make space for prayer, even when busy.Let prayer shape how you think and act.Ask God for wisdom more than success.1. Love truth, and handle it carefully2. Put mercy at the center3. Serve quietly and faithfully4. Courageously seek justice5. Stay grounded in prayer

Have a comment? Send us a text! (We read all of them but can't reply). Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.comIn this episode of Faithful Politics, we sit down with Bishop Dwayne Royster, pastor and national faith leader with Faith in Action, to wrestle with what faith looks like when political power is being used to intimidate, exclude, and dehumanize. Royster traces how his theology was shaped early by organizing, community action, and a church tradition where justice and faith were never separate. From the roots of white Christian nationalism to the modern machinery behind ICE raids and political fear, he explains why Christianity was never meant to serve empire—and why power itself is morally neutral until it is used to liberate or to dominate. We talk through the shooting of Renee Good, the contrasting Christian response to political violence, and what it means for churches to hold government accountable without abandoning nonviolence. Royster challenges Christians to move beyond sermons and into action, calling the church to become “courageously uncomfortable” in a moment that demands moral clarity, solidarity with neighbors, and a recovery of faith rooted in human dignity rather than political control. So Much More: Creating Space for God (Lectio Divina and Scripture Meditation)
A Scripture Meditation on Psalm 27 using Lectio Divina. Do not be afraid. Easier said than done. Fear is a common emotion when we feel scared, concerned, or even ashamed. In this Psalm, David was being pursued by his very real enemies who wanted to do very real hard to him. In the face of this uncertainty, David chose courageous trust when he declared that God was greater than his enemies and therefore, he would not be afraid. David placed his confidence in the Lord. May we do the same. Listen in to this guided meditation and allow the Holy Spirit to direct you to what he has for you. Here’s some helpful links I discussed in the podcast: The guided retreat to help you move into this new year with intention is here. You can find Jodie at http://www.jodieniznik.com/ Instagram @jodieniznik Facebook @JodieGNiznik Learn more about Lectio Divina and download your free Lectio Divina Journal here. And if you’re ready to make Scripture Meditation a part of your new year, I encourage you to join my Monday email newsletter here. I’ll send out link to the newest meditation every Monday morning. Download free sample chapters from my Bible studies here. The passages we meditated on is as follows: Psalm 27:1-3, 13-14, NIV The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. 13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Guest: Ronald White. In 1880, Maine faced a violent political crisis known as the "Count Out," where armed mobs threatened the statehouse over a stolen election. Chamberlain, called upon to keep the peace, courageously faced a mob intent on killing him. He opened his coat and offered his life to preserve the state's honor, successfully dispersing the crowd without bloodshed. This period also saw him testify to vindicate General Warren's reputation regarding Five Forks. After leaving Bowdoin, he struggled with business ventures in Florida but remained a dominant voice in the "second Civil War" fought over the memory of the conflict.1863 GETTYSBURG

Protected from outsiders, they remain cut off from the hope of Christ. Yet some live beyond their homeland—within reach of Brazil's vibrant church. Pray that God will raise up believers to connect with them, that Pipipa elders would encounter the living Christ, and that a movement of faith would spread through their people and beyond.FinancesWeekly Budget 34,615Giving For 11/02 33,119Giving For 11/09 38,172YTD Budget 657,692Giving 618,937 OVER/(UNDER) (38,755)Operation Christmas Child National Collection Week is Here! Living our true identity requires faith-driven action. It takes courage to refuse the labels of others, or the false identities we've embraced as a matter of survival. People and institutions will always try to conform us into something they can label, pigeonhole, and dismiss. When we choose to trust God's revealed identity for us, we choose courage.
