Each Disney Princess movie is set in a different time and part of the world. For many they are a first glimpse of history and cultures outside of our own. But have you ever wondered what life was really like for your favorite Disney Princess? Let's take a look at each of Disney's 16 animated Princesses, including the latest addition, Asha, to determine where and when they are most likely set. Then I'll match each iconic princess to a real-life royal woman from the same time and place. So we can get a sense of what life without witches, curses and singing animal sidekicks was really like. In some cases there are interesting similarities; Eugénie de Montijo really did go from rags to riches like Cinderella, Catherine of Valois was a sleeping beauty like Aurora and Mihrimah Sultan was a respected leader like Jasmine. So put on your ballgown and tiara, or strap on your armor and let's compare Disney Princesses to real history! Part 1: Snow White - Maria Anna of Bavaria, Archduchess of Austria Cinderella - Eugénie de Montijo, Empress of the French Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) - Catherine of Valois, Queen of England Ariel (The Little Mermaid) - Louise of Hesse-Kassel, Queen of Denmark Belle (Beauty and the Beast) - Maria Josepha of Saxony, Dauphine of France Jasmine (Aladdin) - Mihrimah Sultan, Ottoman Princess Pocahontas - The historic Pocahontas Mulan - Xiao, Empress of the Sui dynasty Part 2: Tiana (The Princess and the Frog) - Ariana Austin Makonnen, Princess of Ethiopia Rapunzel (Tangled) - Louise of Prussia, Princess of the Netherlands Merida (Brave) - Matilda of Scotland, Queen of England Elsa & Anna (Frozen) - Princess Eugénie of Sweden & Norway Moana - Nafanua, Ali'i of Samoa Raya and the Last Dragon - Trưng Sisters of Vietnam Asha (Wish) - Fatima bint al-Ahmar, Princess of the Emirate of Granada Join me every Tuesday when I'm Spilling the Tea on History! Send us a textWhat happens when a holiday cocktail meets a castle full of princesses? We kick off a month of Christmas specials with a park-inspired Holiday Cosmo and a globe-spanning tour of princess traditions that blends culture, comedy, and cozy storytelling. We start with the Magic Kingdom's Holiday Cosmo as our guide: vanilla vodka, orange liqueur, cranberry, lime, and a sugared rim. We share an easy home recipe and talk flavor: how vanilla rounds tart fruit, why the color skews blush instead of neon, and simple tweaks for batching or going zero-proof without losing the festive mood. From there, the sleigh takes off. Snow White harmonizes with forest friends and accidentally bakes forty pies. Cinderella observes midnight rituals in France and hosts a slipper-chic party after a wrapping spell goes wild. Pocahontas crafts light from berries and river stones. Mulan battles snarled lights like a seasoned general. Rapunzel becomes the tinsel queen and gifts lanterns under winter skies. Our tour lands in Polynesia with Moana's outrigger Santa and Maui's fire-roasted feast, then dives undersea for Ariel's clam-shell gifts and under-the-sea carols. Belle curates a marathon reading while Beast's décor instincts falter and Mrs. Potts saves the evening with tea. Genie grants Agrabah a snow day as Raja topples trees with kitten enthusiasm. New Orleans swings with Tiana's beignets, gumbo, and a jazz parade led by Louis. Scotland's Merida hosts Highland holiday games featuring a decorated tree toss. In Arendelle, Anna cycles through sweaters and snowmen while Elsa turns the square into an ice-sculpture light show. We wrap with the Madrigal family's chaotic sweetness—Bruno's prophecies and Dolores's supersonic Santa alerts—and Asha's Mediterranean wishing-star cookies. It's a festive mix of cocktail craft, Disney nostalgia, cultural nods, and quick-witted bits that will spark your own tradition ideas. If you smiled, learned a trick for your next Cosmo, or found a new favorite princess moment, tap follow, leave a five-star review, and share this episode with a friend who loves Christmas and castles. Cheers!
In this episode, Tim sits down with Laura-Kate Hickson, a real-life Disney princess who went from performing at Disneyland to juggling life as a mum, wife, and business owner. Laura opens up about the magic, the brutal attention to detail, the pressure, and the parts no one ever sees!
‘Zootopia 2' star Ginnifer Goodwin joins the show. Over meatballs and spicy fusilli, Ginnifer tells me about her chaotic ‘Big Love' audition, preparing her kids for the Disney red carpet and her family's little-known Hollywood history. This episode was recorded at Jon & Vinny's in Studio City, California. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Episode SummaryErin and Rachel hop on down to 1920's New Orleans, where Disney's first Black princess spends most of her time as a frog in the Louisiana bayou. The Princess and the Frog (2010) provided much needed representation, but leaves a lot to be desired in terms of its race, class, and gender politics. What Disney princess are you based on your astrological sign?
We don't have time to bleed but we do have time to get into all the bloody spoilerific carnage (PG-13 carnage that is!) in Dan Tractenberg's 3rd Predator film, Predator Badlands.Join Neil, David & Jose as they hunt for answers in their full spoiler review of Badlands and ask questions like 'is this actually a Predator film?' & 'Have they turned the Predator into a Disney Princess?'We're only joking with those questions but some people honestly believe that and we also get into the films reception, as well as giving our own personal rankings of the Predator Franchise. And try and stop Jose rating films he hasn't seen!!!#predator #predatorbadlands #ellefanning #dek #kalisk #bud #dantrachtenberg #predators #thepredator #shaneblack #disney

In this episode, Kathy Cunningham, a Christian counselor, ordained minister, coach, and inner healing ministry leader shares her deeply personal journey of healing, transformation, and restored connection with her adult children. Kathy went through a journey with both of her kids and started to see more and more parent child estrangement in her counseling practice. This led her to start a ministry that helps parents grow and be a cheerleader instead of controlling their adult kids. Here is some of what we cover: Why your own healing journey is key to restoring connection Setting healthy boundaries in your home while honoring your child's independence What to do when your child has cut off contact Radical acceptance: creating space for disagreement without division Moms whose identity has been wrapped up in parenting find themselves feeling lost and unsure of who they are once their kids leave home- what to do next Connect with Kathy Cunningham: Website: Grace For The Journey Facebook: A Seed of Hope Instagram: Katherine L Cunningham (@kathycunningham717) Links Mentioned: Doing Life with Your Adult Children: By Jim Burns Parents of Addicted Loved Ones | Support Group for Parents, Spouses, Family of Addicted Loved One FREE resources for parents to reconnect with adult children Grace Restored Membership Related Episodes: “How do I connect better with my kids?” [Ep 475] Building Healthy Relationships by Exploring Adult Attachment Patterns (Part 1) :: Charissa Lopez [Ep 498] Building Healthy Relationships by Exploring Adult Attachment Patterns (Part 2) :: Charissa Lopez [Ep 499] Featured Sponsors: GoPure Beauty–For a limited time, our listeners get 25% off goPure with code DMA at checkout. Diana and Susan meet in person and unpack Disney's new live-action Snow White. They compare it to the animated classic, talk through the movie's biggest changes, and debate when remakes should honor nostalgia vs. reflect today's values. You'll hear thoughts on Snow's independence, the Prince “pauper” twist, the Dopey moment, the Evil Queen casting, and why certain iconic scenes were left out. It's an honest, funny conversation about what worked, what didn't, and what Disney should do next.00:00 Welcome back, recording in person, quick catch-up02:00 First reactions to the movie and why Sarah sat this one out05:00 Early beats and familiar vibes: Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Aladdin parallels08:30 Prince as pauper: empathy, morality, and the “Robin Hood/Flynn Rider” energy12:00 The seven dwarfs debate and how the film approached representation15:30 Dopey speaks: character growth vs. losing that classic charm19:00 Making Snow White more complex and independent without the “housecleaning” scene23:30 Nostalgia vs. updates: what to keep, what to change, and what to create new28:30 Homages that remain: the Huntsman, the mirror, and the “fairest of them all” throughline33:00 Music talk: new songs, “Waiting on a Wish,” and which live-action soundtracks land36:00 Recasting the Evil Queen and the case for Emma Stone40:00 Final thoughts: what this remake gets right and where Disney should go from hereThe movie gives Snow White clearer agency and a defined point of view, which modernizes her character without fully rewriting the core.Turning the Prince into a pauper adds empathy and aligns his morality with Snow's, even if it echoes other Disney archetypes.Letting Dopey speak is a bold swing that some will read as growth and others as losing an iconic silent charm.Removing the housecleaning sequence aims to avoid dated gender roles, but it also trims a beloved bit of texture. The film nods to the original with the mirror and the Huntsman while expanding backstory around Snow's parents and the Queen's motives.Biggest miss: the Evil Queen performance never fully sells “menacing,” which drags on key scenes. The larger question isn't “Should we remake?” but “When do we preserve nostalgia and when do we create something new?”“Disney is embracing bad bitches. Prince Charming is an addition, not a requirement.”“If it's not broke, don't fix it. Or better yet, make a new story that fits today.”“When Snow stands up, that's when the mirror finally sees why she's the fairest.”“Dopey talking breaks the mold for some and breaks the magic for others.”“I'd keep Snow White's casting and swap the Evil Queen. Give me Emma Stone in that headpiece.”If you enjoyed this episode, follow the show, leave a quick review, and share it with a friend using #DisneyMomsGoneWrong. We all grew up on princess fairy tales — Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty — and without realizing it, those stories shaped how we thought life and love should look. Be beautiful. Be sweet. Endure hardship. And eventually, a handsome prince will show up out of nowhere, fall instantly in love, and “save” you. But what if… those same stories could actually teach us powerful gospel truths? In this episode, I'm joined by Valerie Beus, host of Family Movie Night for Latter-Day Saints, who helps families find gospel lessons in their favorite films. Together, we're reimagining these princesses — not as helpless damsels waiting for a prince — but as women of strength, faith, and purpose. We talk about:

Who does God say you are? And how do you step into your true identity when the world (and even yourself) have told you otherwise? If you (or your kids) feel unseen, unworthy, or unwanted, this episode is for you. In this powerful conversation, Hosanna Wong shares her journey of growing up on the streets of San Francisco with a father who battled addiction, only to see God transform his life and spark an outdoor church that reached the hurting. Her story goes on to share how she went through some hard years that were full of disappointment and lies from the enemy. She continued to press into the word and God reminded her who she is in Christ, through that season her spoken word ministry was born. Here is some of what we talked about: How God uses ordinary moments and people, like a mother opening her door to a vacuum salesman and sharing faith, to change generations The struggle of feeling like you don't measure up to “good Christian molds” and learning freedom in Christ Why God delights in your unique personality, schedule, and situation, He made you that way on purpose Hosanna reminds us that we have freedom in how we connect with our creator and God wants to meet us where we are Connect with Hosanna Wong: Website: HOSANNA Facebook: Hosanna Wong Instagram: Hosanna Wong (@hosanna.wong) Links Mentioned: SPOKEN WORD: I Have A New Name What God Says About You: By Hosanna Wong You Are More than You've Been Told: By Hosanna Wong Related Episodes: Exchange False Beliefs with True Identity :: Jamie Winship [Ep 433] When You Need a Personal Revival :: Cleere Cherry Reaves [Ep 504] Fighting Toxic Thoughts :: Jennie Allen [Ep 272] Featured Sponsors: Thrive Causemetics: Maximize your look with minimal effort. The Hamilton Recast - With Disney Characters We hope you've had a wonderful, safe & festive 4th of July Weekend. We celebrated, for the 5th year straight, by rewatching our favorite patriotic musical on Disney+. Of course, we're talking about Hamilton. While experiencing this phenomenal piece of art, we thought, what would it be like if some of our favorite characters were placed in the key roles of this show? And that led us to this week's main topic which we've titled The Hamilton Recast - With Disney Characters. With so many fantastic personalities both in this show and in Disney's catalog, there were a lot of ways we could go with this. Listen and see who we settled on to play the likes of the Schuyler Sisters, George Washington, Aaron Burr and, of course, Alexander Hamilton. See if you agree with our selections or if you have ideas for someone different in these roles. Disney Stories of the Week Once we complete The Hamilton Recast - With Disney Characters portion of the show, it's time for the Disney Stories of the Week. In this episode, we tell you when you may get the chance to get an early preview of Test Track 3.0. We also share who will be rocking the stage at this years EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. And we tell you about an upcoming tour for one of our favorite Disney Princesses; Tiana. You'll also get this week's Lin-Manuel Miranda tidbit as we continue our journey through "The Year of Lin"! Better yet, it's right in the middle of The Hamilton Recast portion of the show and it's done by Michelle. (Who we all know has the best #YearOfLin segments) Certainly, that's not all. As always, we wrap it all up with tips that might help you on your next Disney vacation. If you have any comments, questions, or requests to cover a particular topic, please feel free to Contact Us! We also invite you to join the positive fun in our HyperionAdventurers Facebook Group as well as our HyperionMornings on YouTube for a daily dose of live positive chat! In this Showdown episode, Conor and Caroline are out of the tower and over the palace walls to take the two captive Disney Princesses and pit them against each other. Is Jasmine the bold princess who can lead us into a whole new world or is she destined to take the backseat on Aladdin's Magic Carpet? Is Rapunzel's optimism a ray of sunshine or does it make you want to pull out your hair?
