Hi Listeners. I'd love to hear from you. Send an email to Janet@jesteinkamp. It is not possible to respond to your Fan Mail posts directly. You'll peel back the second layer of the coercive-control “onion” and learn seven concrete ways control shows up: isolation, monitoring and surveillance, degradation and humiliation, control over everyday life, gaslighting, threats and intimidation, and rules with punishments. You'll hear real-life examples (from “just preferences” to silent treatments) and why these patterns so often lead to estrangement. Most importantly, you'll get calm, practical guidance on what you can do right now—how to keep communication gentle and consistent, how to avoid confronting the partner (and why that matters), and how to signal a safe haven without adding pressure. If you suspect coercion in your adult child's relationship, this episode gives you language, lenses, and next steps—at a pace that protects connection.**All stories are an amalgamation of stories shared by clients and podcast listeners.Related EpisodesPeeling the Onion One Layer At a Time (Layer 1) - Overview of Coercive Control and Estrangement — the foundation for this series; defines the dynamics and why they escalate.Peeling the Onion One Layer At a Time (Layer 3) Gatekeepers & Coercive Control Navigating “gatekeepers” without triggering coercive abuse and further estrangement.#FamilyEstrangement #CoerciveControl #EstrangedAdultChildren #ParentReconnection #Gaslighting #ParentalAlienation #ParentChildReunification #FamilyCommunication #EstrangementGrief #ReconnectionStrategist #EstrangementExpert #DomesticAbuseAwareness #AdultChildRelationships #FaithFamilyHopeSupport the showFor more information, please go to https://www.WhenOurAdultChildrenWalkAway.com to find resources, strategies and tips to prepare to repair! Send us a textEver wondered why that mentor relationship isn't yielding results? The harsh truth is that many mentoring relationships fail to deliver actual career advancement especially for Black women. In this candid episode, we unpack why traditional mentorship often falls short and what true strategic mentoring should look like. It's not about inspirational coffee chats or vague encouragement; it's about someone with genuine influence opening doors that would otherwise remain closed to you. As I share from personal experience, "A mentor without contacts or influence is just a friend with opinions."We also tackle the growing trend of companies mandating three-day office returns and how to negotiate terms that work for your life. Through my own negotiation story, I demonstrate how standing firm on your non-negotiables can actually work in your favour, even in a tough job market. Remember if employers want your talents badly enough, they'll meet your terms. The episode also explores how neurodivergent individuals are protected under the Equality Act as a disability class, offering important legal insights for workplace accommodations. Plus, I share a personal story about setting boundaries with new friendships and the importance of protecting your kindness from those who would take advantage.Between renovation chaos and career revelations, this episode delivers practical wisdom for navigating work politics, boundary-setting, and strategic relationship building. Whether you're seeking advancement or simply trying to maintain your sanity in today's workplace, these insights will help you recognize your worth and advocate for yourself effectively.Sponsorships - Email me: hello@toyatalks.com Cc: toyawashington10@gmail.comTikTok: toya_washington Twitter: @toya_w (#ToyaTalksPodcast) Snapchat: @toyawashington Instagram: @toya_washington & @toya_talks www.toyatalks.comhttps://toyatalks.com/ Music (Intro and Outro) Written and created by Nomadic Star Stationary Company - Sistah Scribble Instagram @sistahscribble Website: www.sistahscribble.com
In this episode of Selective Ignorance, host Mandii B is joined by super producer A-King, journalist Jayson Rodriguez, and former music executive and media personality Wayno for a deep dive into the state of hip hop, R&B, and the ever-changing music industry. The conversation begins with an introduction and book promotion [00:00] before moving straight into a breakdown of the current state of hip hop and R&B and how the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar feud has shaped cultural conversations [00:55]. The crew then examines the cultural pulse of media and marketing and how these forces influence public perception of artists [02:20]. Drawing from their own careers, the hosts share personal experiences in media and content creation, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges of today’s digital-first environment [05:52]. The discussion turns to the role of gatekeeping in media—a double-edged sword that can both protect and limit access for artists [19:36]. From there, they reflect on the dynamics of Dreamville and the importance of industry relationships, exploring how collaboration, reputation, and authenticity shape success [32:21]. This naturally transitions into a broader conversation about navigating industry relationships and staying true to one’s voice [39:25]. As the conversation develops, the panel revisits the topic of gatekeeping in the music industry and how it affects rising talent [41:44], before diving into one of the most debated questions in culture: what defines the “Song of the Summer”?[42:09]. They unpack how streaming, TikTok, and changing audience habits have altered how hits are made and sustained. From there, they explore the evolution of music promotion and artist visibility in a landscape oversaturated with content [59:51], followed by a discussion on the state of R&B festivals and whether the genre’s live presence reflects its cultural impact [01:05:04]. They then critique the oversaturation of media and music, stressing the importance of differentiation and strategy for artists [01:08:23]. The episode also tackles the changing metrics in the music industry [01:12:28] and how the obsession with numbers affects music perception and success [01:16:39]. From there, they highlight the tension between cultural impact and artist recognition [01:21:22], offering perspective on how audiences, critics, and platforms assign value in today’s fragmented landscape. The conversation closes with reflections on navigating the modern music business [01:26:04] and why leverage is one of the most important tools artists can have in today’s industry [01:30:26]. “No Holes Barred: A Dual Manifesto Of Sexual Exploration And Power” w/ Tempest X!Sale Link Follow the host on Social MediaMandii B Instagram/X @fullcourtpumps Follow the guest on Social Media@wayno119 Follow the show on Social MediaInstagram @selectiveignorancepodTiktok @selective.ignoranceX/Twitter @selectiveig_pod See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Send us a textIn light of the recent NMC and Doula UK video, I decided to record this special episode as I felt it relates this this season's theme: The Reality of Birth. The video tried to define the role of a doula but missed the mark — suggesting we simply reinforce what midwives advise. That's not the truth. You can watch it here - https://youtu.be/bXqIBMTZHDsMany care providers still remain confused about the role of a doula — despite us providing care for 25 years or more in some cases. But that confusion isn't what matters. What matters is that you and your partner are crystal clear on why you've chosen your doula, and how their continuous support aligns with your birth vision. In this episode of The Ultimate Birth Partner Podcast, I explore:✨ Why the recent video missed the mark about doula support.✨ What families need to know when choosing a doula or birthkeeper.✨ Why the woman herself is the true guardian and gatekeeper of her birth.✨ How midwives can embrace this truth if they are to practise woman-centred care.I also share how a group of local doulas in my area have been working collaboratively with the hospital to build stronger relationships with midwives — and why this kind of real-world connection is far more valuable than any video.

Julie Satow and Alice Robb sit down with Laura McGrath, the author of Middlemen to tell the surprising story of how literary agents went from magazine brokers to the most powerful figures in American publishing. Through archival sleuthing, vivid fieldwork, and data that brings catalogs and auction-room drama to life, this episode traces pivotal moments — from the first auctions to the birth of the super agent — and the intimate, sometimes fraught relationships that shape what readers get to see on shelves. Listen as they weave anecdotes about deals, loyalty, and gatekeeping with sharp reporting on today's shifts: agents as editors, agents on Substack, and the ways technology and consolidation are rewriting old rules. It's a fast-moving, character-driven narrative that reveals not just how books get made, but who gets to decide.
“Brain washing” #2 by Pastor George Lehman (This is not about being brain washed; but about washing our brain (soul) with the Word) Satan uses a vacant mind as a dumping ground. Put up a “no dumping” sign over your mind. The problem is our ‘no dumping' sign is covered with: worry, defeat, discouragement, anxiety and fear. Get a grip on your MIND and get a grip on your life. It's a known fact that you become what you think. Proverbs 23:7 (KJV) - “For as (a man) thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Predominant thoughts present present action. An uncontrolled mind produces an uncontrolled life. Let me ask you, when last did you replace a negative, anxious, fearful or failure thought with God's positive truth from His Word? Both Paul and Peter gave some very clear instructions that will help you to get a grip on your mind and get a grip on your life. 1 Peter 1:13 (NIV) - Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. Notice where we must prepare; our mind (soul). Set your minds and keep them set. Spiritual Alertness: It means being spiritually alert and sober-minded, ready to resist temptation and stand firm in faith against the spiritual battles that we as believers face. Philippians 4:8 (Amp) - For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. These scriptures tell us that we are the WARDENS and Gatekeepers of our own minds – we decide what enters our minds. The question is - what kind of life do you want? The life you're living right now is what you have allowed into your mind. Let me tell you, if you want to experience the continual blessings, prosperity and victory that God has ordained for you then you need to monitor the thoughts you think (garbage in, garbage out). You need to let the Word of God get a good grip on your MIND. Once you let the Word grab hold of your thought patterns and you tune into the Holy Spirit, I promise you, your mind will begin to tune out the negative things that are destroying your faith. Set your minds and keep them set. Like a car radio, you set the program until it's tunes in then press memory and you'll keep it set on that station You cannot be on the same frequency of the Holy Spirit and the devil's lies, if you do then you'll process the supernatural, powerful things that God thinks about you and says about you. Your seeking His face will be with (great expectation). Your thoughts will become His thoughts and His ways your ways. I guarantee you; you will walk and live in a new dynamic. John 14:12 (Amp) - I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father. 1 Corinthians 2:16 (Amp) - For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart. We can think God's thoughts concerning us instead of the enemy's proposals, which only suggest failure, sickness, defeat, poverty, weakness, fear, worry, anger, resentment, inferiority and so many other negative emotions. Here's a comforting thought – God has thought clearly about our victory and success. Isaiah 14:24 (Amp) – The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying, Surely, as I have thought and planned, so shall it come to pass, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand. He doesn't see you with problems or as a failure. He sees you in the completed fulfilled purposed position that He died for you to have and receive. Psalm 139:17 (Amp) – How precious and weighty also are your thoughts to me, o God!!. How vast is the sum of them? Jeremiah 29:11 – I know the thoughts and plans I have for your life. Isaiah 55:11 (NIV) - So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. We must wash our MINDS with some truths AND get a grip on your life. You'll always be more convinced by what you've discovered than by what others have found: Go from being dependent on others to being dependent on God. He is the source of direction. Yet too many people base what they believe, do and say on what others believe, do and say. Revelation is only revelation when it's your revelation. God is best known by revelation, not explanation. Obviously, God uses Pastors, Christian leaders, books, Christian TV, tapes and other ways to speak truth into our lives. The most important conviction in our lives cannot be reached on the word of another. “The Bible is so simple you have to have someone else help you misunderstand it,” says Charles Capps. Theologians are always trying to make the Bible a book without common sense. God made it easy to find out for ourselves. If you don't decide to get a grip on your mind and get a grip on your life - no one can do it for you! At this point, let's look at things that will help you get a grip on your mind, because whatever is keeping your life unproductive – “originated in your MIND”. Can I encourage you, look at your life, look at your productivity and effectiveness. If what's in your life isn't good, in Jesus Name, don't approve it!, don't get comfortable with it! don't get satisfied with it! Change it. Just remember, you're the one – who has approved your poor prayer life and your lack of studying God's Word. Decide now to get a grip on your mind and you'll get a grip on your life. Be Brainwashed by Gods wonderful truths!!! When we win in our minds, we going to win in our lives!
When consensus collapses, the gatekeepers reach for new tools of influence. This week's broadcast takes on the breakdown of consensus and the rise of what's being called the “censorship industrial complex.” From Europe's expanding speech laws to the collapse of trust in legacy media, Todd explores how official narratives are manufactured, how they collapse, and what fills the vacuum when conventional wisdom dies. Europe's new model of speech control and why it matters. How trust in journalism collapsed from NPR to the Washington Post. Informational anarchy and the death of consensus. Why shortwave increasingly matters in a pre-curated digital world.
This episode is part of the AI Summary series covering the AI Search Manual chapter by chapter. Chapter 4 examines the new gatekeepers of discovery and how Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is reshaping visibility across platforms. We break down Google's dominance with AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Gemini, and how the Great Decoupling has changed the value exchange between publishers and search engines. The episode also explores how OpenAI's ChatGPT, Perplexity, Anthropic's Claude, and Microsoft's Copilot each approach discovery differently, with their own strengths, limitations, and implications for brands. The discussion compares AI-driven answers with traditional ranked search results, showing how visibility now depends on inclusion in summaries rather than position on a page. We also cover the difference between crawl-based discovery and API-based access, and why knowing how your content is being ingested by these systems is central to building a GEO strategy.Read the full chapter at ipullrank.com/ai-search-manual.

Carrie Olaje returns to Wake the Dead to continue our discussion on the internal worlds of a Monarch mind controlled slave. Carrie describes triggers and how they are used to call up and control certain alters. She tells us about the internal, imagined physical structures in the victim's mind installed by the programmers. She teaches us about the 'control room' housing alters ready to 'go on stage'. We also discussed Persecutor/Gatekeeper alters and their function within the system, including the ultimate persecutor... demons. This conversation was especially touching due to Carrie's recollection of a dream/memory of her soul's experience before her current lifetime. Carrie's words are a gift to this world. In this powerful episode, Kevin Trudeau—author, media personality, and health freedom pioneer—joins the program to reveal the untold story behind his 10-year imprisonment. Once a dominant voice challenging Big Pharma before it was even remotely safe to do so, Trudeau paid the ultimate price for exposing information that is now widely discussed in the health freedom movement. His groundbreaking book, Natural Cures “They” Don't Want You to Know About, spent an astonishing 24 months on the New York Times bestseller list, shaking up the medical industry and empowering millions. But success came at a cost: his bold challenge to the establishment, and the system's loss of narrative control, led to his downfall. Now, Kevin is back—unfiltered and unafraid. In this exclusive interview, he shares what really happened, what he learned behind bars, and why he believes the tide is finally turning.Follow Kevin at KevinTrudeau.com

Tom and co-host Drew tackle some of the most pressing issues shaping our world right now—from trade deals and tech breakthroughs to the complexities of American politics and evolving cultural narratives. The conversation kicks off with reactions to a major US-EU trade agreement and what it means for America's place in the global economy. Tom and Drew dive into the ongoing gridlock in Congress, sparked by passionate remarks from Cory Booker, and discuss whether polarization is crippling the nation—or protecting it from “doing anything really crazy.” They draw surprising parallels between the American political landscape and other countries, especially China. Next, the team explores a viral ad campaign starring Sydney Sweeney, unpacking the culture war currently raging over beauty standards, identity, and the stories we tell ourselves as a society. Tom makes the case for the power of uplifting narratives—both for individuals and entire nations—while warning of the risks when those narratives turn toxic. In this episode, Doug speaks with Ken Cox about how AI can be deployed in small businesses to generate tremendous value. One of the biggest things most small businesses can do to increase their revenue is to ensure the phones are always answered. However, this is frequently difficult since business owners must choose between operating their business and answering the phone to potentially intake new clients who are responding to their advertising, referrals or a search listing. As it turns out, this is a place where AI can create tremendous value since callers can be routed to an automated agent that will diagnose their needs and roll over to a virtual assistant who gathers information and sets an appointment for you to call them back. This is one of many ways Ken and I discuss that AI can benefit small businesses. If you want to know more about Ken, click below:https://inlink.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/kencox/ This is a public episode. Far more art is produced in a place like Seattle that is seen by the general public, in venues like galleries, museums, and art fairs. Who decides which art goes on display, and which work remains in the maker's studio? A panel of art world experts discussed the often behind-the-scenes process that selects certain artists while sidelining others, and whether the current structure encourages or suppresses diversity, and where there is room for improvement. Elisheba Johnson is a conceptual artist and curator for Wa Na Wari. She was previously a public art manager for Seattle's Office of Arts and Culture and the owner of Faire Gallery Cafe. In 2018, Elisheba started a public art practice with her collaborator Kristen Ramirez. She is currently a member of the Americans for the Arts Emerging Leaders Network advisory council and has won four Americans for the Arts Public Art Year in Review Awards for her work. Judith Rinehart launched J. Rinehart Gallery in 2019 after more than a decade of working in Seattle galleries. As an arts advocate, she served for three years as treasurer of the Seattle Art Dealers Association, was the curator and panelist at the Seattle Emerging Arts Fair in 2018 and was the lead organizer of the Seattle Deconstructed Art Fair in 2020 & 2021. She is also one of the founders of Art + Culture Week, an initiative to celebrate Seattle's visual arts, performing arts, and cultural communities. Rock Hushka is the former Deputy Director and Chief Curator at Tacoma Art Museum, curating more than 50 exhibitions and 25 publications. While at TAM, Hushka received two National Endowment for the Arts Access to Artistic Excellence grants, an Andy Warhol Foundation for the Arts Curatorial Fellowship, and a Getty Leadership Institute Fellowship. He recently transitioned careers, seeking to bridge the experiential learning of museum exhibitions to graphic design and educational technology. Presented by Town Hall Seattle and Gage Academy of Art.
Weaving together current events, political polarization, and the power of storytelling over facts, this episode explores the fragility of democracy in the digital age. Todd examines insights from George Washington, Walter Lippmann, Jonathan Gottschall, and Nicholas Carr, questioning whether media literacy or ethical gatekeeping can overcome our tribal instincts. This episode offers a candid look at the roots of division and the possibly futile search for solutions in a hyper-connected world. “I belong anywhere I want to be.' That moment snapped the energy for this episode, where Kiana Montgomery dives deep into her legacy as a third-generation Detroiter and how her public relations work is rooted in uplifting Legacy Black Detroit. She shares, “If you want to engage with that audience… that's the audience I'm looking to connect with,” weaving stories of family reunions enduring a 74% decline, summers spent in New Jersey, her grandfather's journey from Alabama with just a dollar in his pocket, and building a business servicing Detroit's cultural gatekeepers. Along the way, she reflects on how her military brat upbringing and HBCU experience at FAMU shaped her voice and how the city—with its cold winters and resilient communities—became her chosen home during the turmoil of 2020. You'll hear how she strategically connects national brands to local narratives, the power of organic networking (even through "statement piece" shoes), and why Detroit is “Clique‑ish”—a badge of respect she leverages to elevate neighborhood voices on a national stage. https://www.maynardvillefellowship.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Matthew-23_13-Woe-Unto-the-Gatekeepers-Outside-the-Gate-of-the-Kingdom.mp3 They claimed to be guides into God's Kingdom — but they were standing on the outside, slamming the gate shut on those who would enter. The hypocrisy of Israel's false shepherds was undeniable — men who didn't love the people, didn't know the way, and yet presumed to speak for God. Jesus' first woe in Matthew 23 isn't mere condemnation; it's the opening line of a covenantal divorce decree. The light of the world would no longer shine through national Israel. But make no mistake — the Kingdom from heaven is still invading the earth. “The kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing the fruit of it” (Matthew 21:43). With that transfer came new gatekeepers… and a new stewardship of the Keys.Christ has given those keys to His Church. Listen as Pastor Matt Cooke traces this theme through the Old Testament and the Gospel of Matthew — and calls believers to stop bowing to those outside the gate.

The eastern archipelagos stretch from Mindanao and Sulu in the north to Bali in the southwest and New Guinea in the southeast. Many of their inhabitants are regarded as “people without history”, while colonial borders cut across shared underlying patterns. Yet many of these societies were linked to trans-oceanic trading systems for millennia. Indeed, some of the world's most prized commodities once came from territories which were either “stateless” or under the very tenuous control of loosely structured polities. Although individual regimes sought to control traffic, exchange between trans-regional or even trans-oceanic shippers and local communities was often direct, without mediation by overarching authorities. In Seaways and Gatekeepers: Trade and State in the Eastern Archipelagos of Southeast Asia, C.1600-c.1906 (NUS Press, 2021), trade provides the integrating framework for local and regional histories that cover more than 300 years, from the late 16th century to the beginning of the 20th, when new technologies and changing markets signaled Western dominance. The introduction considers theories from the social sciences and economics which can help liberate writers from dependence on states as narrative frameworks. Southeast Asian specialists can learn from this book, which ignores conventional geographic and temporal boundaries. It will also appeal to those working on wider themes such as global history, state formation, the evolution of markets and anthropology. Learn more about your ad choices. From September 16, 2020: What is the proper relationship between the CIA director and the president? How should directors handle arguably illegal orders? How important is the director's role as the nation's honest broker of information during times of crisis? To get at these questions, David Priess sat down with Chris Whipple, a documentary filmmaker, journalist and the author of two books about the people around the president. "The Gatekeepers," based upon his documentary of the same name, examines White House chiefs of staff, and his new book, "The Spymasters: How the CIA Directors Shape History and the Future," is based on the Showtime documentary "The Spymasters: CIA in the Crosshairs," for which Whipple was the writer and executive producer. They talked about CIA directors through the last several decades and how they've impacted U.S. history and national security. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare.
