This is part 2 with Dave Made A Maze filmmaker, William Watterson He explains the ending of Dave Made A Maze and what he would change and why. How the ending credits was an homage to the end credits of Buckaroo Bonzai and it was animated and why. His belief that our society is not encouraged to be creative and that people are far more creative than we think. And that people, especially horror fans, do not get nearly enough credit for their creative intelligence. And a lot of his work is about being creative as an adult and coming to terms with it. Bill puts a premium on working in spaces where creativity is the point and creative intelligence is valued. He pitched and was hired on by Universal to make a Tremors but it was not to be. He talks being of service and the struggle to be creative in corporate America. I asked if he's thought about fundraising and he explains his struggles with that option and i how it clashes with who he wants to be. Bill talks about the opportunities he's had that fell apart. It's just the nature of the business. He's currently working a job he loves with miniatures and stop motion with Mattel. I think Chris and I successfully changed his mind about crowdfunding and we're excited about what's to come! Support indie filmmakers and watch Dave Made A Maze!! Like the rest of Hollywood, we resurrect a classic from the past and present it as a new and better version. Thats right, the podcast you love to love is back! seriously this time! To kick it off we do a much requested cult classic Buckaroo Bonzai starring Peter Weller, Jeff Goldblum, John Lithgow and Cheers' own Nick Tortelli. In this our first foray back we hope Darrius Trucker is listening, a smooth ride across the 8th dimension, no aliens prevent you from getting to work, and finally, we say Meh! to you sir. Meh! to! You! Greg and i are back and any who still is subscribed and hears this, thank you. seriously. we really do love doing this podcast and are super pumped to be back.
Buckaroo Bonzai, a rockstar, a surgeon, and all around nice guy leads the Hong Kong Cavaliers into battle. Is this a weird movie? I don't know - Christopher Lloyd fights rasta-aliens who arrive in a giant space coconut while Robocop actor (Peter Weller) and a cowboy-clad Jeff Goldblum run around trying to heal an inter-dimensional rift. Does that help? This episode features James Hauser, Curt Mummer, Ryan Farrell and Charles Huyett. In this week's special 88th episode, we conclude our journey through time with our review of "Back to the Future, Part III," the final installment of one of the best trilogies ever. Check out episodes #058 & #065 for our reviews of Parts I & II. - Which co-host can't stop talking about "Buckaroo Bonzai"? - How many total pages of breakdown, trivia, and notes, does Todd have about this movie -- and, is it too many? - How smooth or clumsy was Todd's barely-relevant "Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist" reference during the rundown? - Just how prolific was the acting career of Dub Taylor, one of the old-timers in the saloon? - How many times does Andruw remind us that Part 2 is his favorite of the BttF trilogy? - Which co-hosts site continuity throughout the trilogy & character development as major strengths of Part 3? - What did Dave's daughters think of BttFp3? (Sadly, it was past their bedtime during recording, so we only learn second-hand.) - Which co-host sites a rushed romance as a nitpick? - Do you, the listener, agree with Joanna's analysis of 2nd installments vs. 3rd installments in movie trilogies? - How is Beaufort pronounced differently in North Carolina & South Carolina, and why would you care? (And, if I weren't pointing it out here, would you notice Todd left out the "e" when spelling it and had to edit it in later?) - How coherent were the lightning rounds this week? - Which co-host had a long-winded Muppet reference when explaining his score of BttFp3...and why? - And, why exactly did Doc load the Delorean's removed rubber tires into the wooden frame mounted between the train and the Delorean? Listen now for the answers to these and other time-bending questions as we achieve 88...not miles per hour...but 88 episodes of this podcast. Grab your hat, horse, six-shooters, walkie-talkies, 2015 Hover Board, specially-made train fuel logs, and your drastically-modified Delorean time machine as we conclude our reviews of one of the greatest trilogies ever with..."Back to the Future, Part III." In this episode of Asked and Answered by Soul, Jennifer Urezzio and Life Coach Katie Kay discuss how we can harmonize fear with faith so we are deeply connected and supported in this world. When we have faith on one side holding hands with fear on the other, we can walk much easier through our lives. Tune in today as Jennifer and Katie take a look at the idea that fear can be a beautiful protective voice for us. Fear is a feral animal and when we truly face our fears, accept the reality of what is in the moment, and are curious and kind with it, we can untangle what is at the core and life becomes much sweeter. Katie Kay broke out of the legal/corporate world and now coaches unsuspecting spiritual beings in the desperate art of being human. With her 30 years of practice in astrology, tarot, prayer counseling, mothering, staff management, working with lawyers and executives, she now deserves the promised flashbacks from LSD. She relies on the ancients for soul-soothing, such as the Kabbala, Bhagavad Gita, Sufi mystics, Buckaroo Bonzai, and Tao Te Ching. Cultural badges: certified professional life coach, certified astrologer, prayer practitioner, a degree in psychology, and grandmother. The purpose of her pitch is to remind desperate listeners, tossed, career-twisted, relationship-dazed humans to harmonize fear with faith. Not the dogma kind, but the kind that is trusted by the trees, saltwater, blown up mountains, scorched land, and blue sky. Her calling is to shine a light for her clients through the shadows of mid-life & financial fumbles, breakups, career shifts, and that puzzling soul sickness that screams in silent rooms. Twice a month she ventures out into public with video presentations: As The Zodiac Turns, with astrological spiritual weather tips for the month ahead, and Tarot Time, an evening for individual private tarot readings. You can learn more about Katie here http://spiritplays.net/. The Asked and Answered by Soul podcast is dedicated to helping you understand that your Soul is the answer. There's a Retro Movie Review in my new release review. There's a new release review in my Retro Movie Review! To start us off, Chris, Shane, Murd and Ian review the 1984 sci-fi cult classic, and favorite of Shane, "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension." But is it truly retro if three out of four are watching it for the first time? You be the judge. The cast (sans Shane) then transition into an in-depth and spoiler-filled discussion on Marvel's latest cinematic entry in Phase Four of the MCU, "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings." And as if that wasn't enough, we also attempt to Muddle the Murd! (1:43:12)
This episode we cover the 1997 sci-fi horror film Event Horizon—with deep digressions into the nature of reality, L. Ron Hubbard, QAnon, martial arts nerds, psychedelics, UFOs, and cosmic horror. We're joined by Nick Gullo, AKA Nick the Tooth. His career bio is about as complex as Buckaroo Bonzai's. To keep it short, he's the co-host of the excellent Infinite Worlds podcast, wrote a book about the UFC, writes sci-fi, and is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Celebrating and honoring women is one of the most effective ways to ensure that more of us step up and engage in our work and our lives. In fact studies show that efforts to call out women's contributions can have a profound impact on our willingness to lead and contribute.SHOW NOTESHappy Fourth of July! Not so fast . . . July 4 is a complicated holiday for some Americans. So our hosts decide to pole vault over the thicket of complicated feelings about the 4th and celebrate the contributions women of color have made to the amazing and beautiful quilt that is the American workplace. This episode of Crina and Kirsten Get to Work is all about inspiration - and what we know from the research is that calling out, recognizing, acknowledging womens’ success in the workplace not only creates more willingness in the women acknowledged to take on bigger challenges, but does the same thing for the women around them. So put on your jet pack, listener, you are on for a rocket fueled inspirational ride. Dr. Mae Jemeson - the real life Buckaroo Bonzai, astronaut, physician, dancer and on a mission to send humans outside the solar system. Fawn is a leader among leaders who has used her leadership and the law to advance native people in the United States and to advocate for the protection of the land. Dr. Alexa Canady - first black female neuroscientist, who made an incredible difference in the lives of the children she cared for - and she struggled with confidence at many points in her career. She cites the mentors in her life for opening doors for her as a key to her success. Rosalinda Guillen - farm worker organizer and head of the intentionally female-led organization, Community to Community. Rosalinda works for farm worker rights while she transforms our political relationships and our relationship to the land and the people who grow our food..Janice Bryant Howroyd - owner of ActOne Group - a $3 billion dollar company located in 19 countries. Her business philosophy came from her family of 13 - organization, respect and communication. Yuri Kochiyama - interned in Arkansas after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which she says was the beginning of her political awakening, she was influenced by Malcom X and spent her life working on civil rights issues.Look at your story What makes your life difficult? In the penultimate chapter of the Mars Trilogy, Sax names colors with Maya, works on the memory problem at Acheron, and goes sailing with Ann--and Matt and Hilary talk about it! We talk a bit about the moments of adventure in the books, and speculate about what they're for and why they happen when they do. But mostly we have a freewheeling conversation about memory, knowledge, and longevity. We discover that, hey, isn't life the ultimate "experimental procedure?" Sax encounters Zeyk, strapped to a thingamajig that's scanning his Marilu Henner-style brain. We explore the parallels between the remaining First Hundred taking the memory treatment and a far-out drug experience. We argue over the origin of the phrase "Wherever you go, there you are" (it's Buckaroo Bonzai, not Hitchhiker's Guide, btw). There's stuff about political commitment and memory here, about not living in the past so that you can be present to the present so you can live toward the future (which is the route Maya opts for). And, of course, a great rendition of the specific variety of social maladjustment that's endemic to grad school and that makes it almost impossible for pure academics like Sax and Ann to have a relationship. Everyone's favorite characters return in this chapter! George, Roger, Mary, "Andrea"--the gang's all here! One more chapter of the Mars Trilogy! Tune in next week to hear Hilary cry and how awkwardly Matt responds to that. Thanks for listening! Billy Vera is a multi-faceted performer, songwriter, actor, producer, bandleader of The Beaters, and entertainment industry Renaissance man. He’s written numerous hit singles, including “Mean Old World” by Rick Nelson, “Make Me Belong to You” by Barbara Lewis, Dolly Parton’s #1 country single “I Really Got the Feeling,” and “At This Moment,” which rocketed to the top of the Billboard pop rankings following a memorable usage on the popular TV show Family Ties. He made his charting debut as an artist on Atlantic Records with the self-penned Top 20 R&B single, “Storybook Children,” a groundbreaking interracial duet with Judy Clay. Other Billy Vera songs of note include Bonnie Raitt’s recording of “Papa Come Quick (Jody & Chico)" and “Room With a View,” a modern blues classic that’s been recorded by Eric Burdon, Johnny Adams, and Lou Rawls, who released a handful of albums co-produced by Vera . The long list of additional artists who’ve covered Billy’s songs includes The Shirelles, Robert Plant, Fats Domino, Don Williams, Gregory Isaac, Etta James, Nona Hendryx, Tom Jones, Little Milton, Steve Goodman, and George Benson. Vera launched his acting career with an appearance in the cult classic film Buckaroo Bonzai, and went on to appear in Oliver Stone’s The Doors, the Bruce Willis movie Blind Date, and TV shows such as Alice, Baywatch, Boy Meets World, and Beverly Hills 90201. A noted music historian, Billy has produced over 200 reissue albums, earning multiple Grammy nominations, and a 2013 win for his work on the Ray Charles box set, Singular Genius: The Complete ABC Singles. His historically-oriented radio show, Billy Vera’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party, earned him a Peabody Award for Excellence in Radio Broadcasting and led to a career as a voiceover artist. He is the voice of major advertising campaigns by Burger King, Honda, Toyota, Mercury, and others, as well as the singer of TV show theme songs, including Empty Nest and The King of Queens. He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and tells the remarkable story of his varied career in the new memoir, Billy Vera: Harlem to Hollywood.
