Chris Grant and Ash Parrish join David Pierce to rock out with a game created over a matter of months by a niche developer and a peripheral manufacturer, fueled by word-of-mouth and viral videos on a nascent YouTube. Brian Kahanek is an audio engineer and blues rock guitarist. He is probably best known for his track Gemini which was part of the video game Guitar Hero. Brian joins me in a conversation about creative, music and the growing menace Ai generated content. God gives us gifts and talents to co-create with Him. We have to steward those gifts and become to shepherd to protect them as well. Our world is falling into a dead world where creativity is determined by an algorithm. Warmest of Welcomes everybody! As promised during the live raffle draw, your bonus episode of the Mooglecast is here where myself (Max) and my old school friend Maurice take a trip down memory lane talking about an I.P that carries a lot of nostalgia for us and really solidified our friendship in the best way possible. In this episode, Maurice introduces himself to the Trophytalk listeners and talks about his approach to gaming and then some of the memories we have playing Guitar Hero, what makes a good guitar hero game and for the main bulk of the episode we design a setlist for a Guitar Hero revival game from scratch. With over 60 songs mentioned we used our extensive music knowledge in Rock and Metal to create a setlist that features Hits, B-sides, and Deep cuts from a variety of artists that stretch across the rock and metal sub genres whether you're into Classic Rock, Death Metal, Alt Metal, Alt Rock, Prog, we try to cater to everyone. With each track mentioned we talk about some of our memories / thoughts of the artists bringing this episode to over 2.5hrs in length, one of Trophytalk networks longest episodes, so turn it up to 11 and get ready to talk riffs! Myself and Maurice will be back for a Part 2 so please look forward to that, but for now we took the time to produce a Spotify Playlist of the songs mentioned in order so you can listen to this fun little game idea, please enjoy and be excellent to eachother! https://spotify.link/t5NIf27qEXb

Part 2 of: What do Guitar Hero, blockbuster video game soundtracks, and a stack of epic TV scores all have in common? The unmistakable sound of Steve Ouimette. In this continuation episode of Inside the Recording Studio, Chris and Jody sit down with the guitarist and producer whose riffs have been quietly shaping your playlists, your binge-watching marathons, and maybe even your late-night gaming sessions. Steve takes us through his unlikely start in the music world and the twists and turns that led him from a young player chasing tone to one of the industry's most in-demand session musicians. Along the way, he dishes out unforgettable stories about working behind the scenes, collaborating on major projects, and navigating the ever-evolving studio landscape. But this isn't just a stroll down memory lane. Steve gets candid about the temptation to chase the hidden features in studio gear, why musicians obsess over the latest plugins, and when that obsession helps—or hurts—the creative process. With Chris and Jody guiding the conversation, you'll hear sharp insights about staying productive in the studio, managing the chaos of gear options, and keeping the focus where it belongs: the music. Packed with wisdom, humor, and enough guitar-fueled energy to make you want to pick up your instrument immediately, this episode is equal parts masterclass and jam session. Whether you're running a home studio gear setup or a full-scale production house, you'll find nuggets of inspiration and plenty of reasons to laugh along.
On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage. Over the last couple of decades, Killswitch Engage have been at the top of metalcore. The New England group became genre leaders in the 2000s, making an early mark with 2002's Alive or Just Breathing and 2004's The End of Heartache. Through lineup shifts, Grammy nominations, and Guitar Hero appearances, they've remained active, releasing their ninth studio album, This Consequence, in February. Before heading out on a European tour, the powerhouse vocalist sat down with Madden to talk about the band's legacy, his personal journey through music, and the passion that continues to fuel heavy music today. This “Behind the Music” is an 8-part retrospective of the biggest rhythm game franchise to ever hit the States (and the reason so many of us still have plastic guitars stashed in our hall closets). Featuring opening acts Harmonix and Red Octane, and headliner trio that gave us Guitar Hero Arcade - Activision, Konami, and Raw Thrills What is the musical instrument-based peripheral you never got but always wanted in a Guitar Hero or Rock Band game? Could we see a reunion tour of Geriatric Drive-by in our lifetimes? Why is Rob fed up with FedEx? How are fan-created games like Clone Hero and YARG keeping the home rock star experience alive? In lieu of answering listener questions we just go into a long rant about the Nintendo Direct. Well, some of us do. Join the Podouken Discord and post your own questions that could be included in a future episode so we never have to rant like this again: discord.gg/k5vf2Jz You can also like, comment, and subscribe to our YouTube channel where we post our listener question segments and additional content (like if we put our socks on sock-sock-shoe-shoe or sock-shoe-sock-shoe style): https://www.youtube.com/@podoukenpodcast2716

I love going to guitar shops. It's fun to go, enjoy, play, and experience what is out on the market. I cannot think of a single shop I go to that doesn't have at least 1 guitar that inspires me when I pick it up. Of course this is usually out of a selection of 50 to 1000 guitars of my choosing because I am right handed. My buddies Barber and Swags are a different story because they are lefties. This is why I've offered to take either of them on a roadtrip to Houston, TX to shop at South Paw Guitars. A guitar sanctuary solely dedicated to stocking high quality left handed instruments. But how far is it to Houston? Did we make any stops along the way? Why are we looking for a new guitar? Should you trade in the old one? How quickly can you bond with a new piece of gear? Can it make you play better? What does Guitar Hero have to do with all of this? Can you put a right handed guitar in a left handed case? And he didn't choose lefty… lefty chose him. Well we will discuss this, and more on this group therapy session with Swags, on the Tweed Couch.

Brian Gibson is a musician, artist, and game designer best known for blurring the lines between sound, movement, and chaos. As the bassist for the legendary noise-rock duo Lightning Bolt, he's released seven studio albums and played countless ferocious, high-velocity live shows. But he's also spent much of his life working on video games, first as an artist for the music-game developer Harmonix, which he joined in 2001, and more recently as the co-designer of Thumper—a rhythm-violence game that marries kinetic speed and hypnotic visuals.Since its release, Thumper has become a cult classic, earning acclaim for its singular aesthetic and for redefining what a rhythm game could be. A follow-up, Thrasher, originally released for Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro is now out on Steam. You know what this world doesn't have enough of? Dive bar cover bands! Nothing can bring a group together like cheap beer, limp nachos, and 5 sweaty guys doing their best Journey impression. So, in the spirit of bringing the world together, we're recruiting members to form a house band for our new dive bar. But these aren't just your dad's buddies from the garage, no these are bonafide musicians. Of course, they're all musicians from video games, but that's beside the point. Todd is doing polka. Matt is doing butt rock. Kyle is doing...Weezer? The title of this week's episode was selected by our Patrons in our Discord Community! You know the situation: you're rocking out to Guitar Hero in your PJ's and you're about to hit that whammy bar when - suddenly - the lights go out. Apparently Kiss's "Rock and Roll All Night" was just too much for your little circuit breaker to take! Time to go change a fuse (or call someone who knows how to, maybe)... Xbox saw Matty was slipping, so in a bold strategy to reel the Dukes back in, they have opted to greenlight Fallout 5. Despite what many will try and say to downplay this, there is a strong chance that Fallout 5 goes beyond the borders of Bethesda for the first time since 2010. Considering it's a mainline entry, this is a massive shakeup. It gets even more dicey when Obsidian Entertainment gets taken off the board. So, who makes a new Fallout game? The 76 team? InXile? Larian? Dare we say, a new studio? Oh, boy. Each choice outside of the obvious like Larian or InXile has their caveats. So, let's get into the thick of the future of the Bethesda's valuable post-apocalyptic IP.
