Ryan Marvel and Dominic Dakovitch provide some much-needed optimism this week as they discuss how to overwhelm hatred and division with love and comfort. Marvel describes "The Winter Solstice Miniatures" as an appreciation for the restfulness of winter. He's enjoyed releasing the trio of duets as they reflect "Where we are now as a society. Just kind of be patient and hoping that things are gonna get better as we head towards spring." Thank you for kicking off our second season of the Arts' Alcove Podcast, Ryan! Angela and Kelly are talking about cartoons--the Saturday morning kind, and the late night anime kind. She-Ra, Marvel Rising, ThunderCats Roar, and Voltron (let's not get into it) are all on the table. Why is western animation still struggling to find an audience outside 6 year olds? What comes first, the manga or the anime? And why does Angela have to wait so long for a new season of Haikyu!!? Well, this is more like a post-SDCC podcast! Jimmy was in Los Angeles after Comic Con and managed to get a couple of interviews. Since he was staying w/ Milana Vayntrub, he figured he could get her to agree and she did! Literally on his way to the airport, Jimmy and Milana chatted over a quick dinner. They talked about her role as Squirrel Girl in the upcoming Marvel Rising animated series, her charity Can't Do Nothing, directing, comedy and how she loves to sing and dance while driving Jimmy around! Jimmy sat with Sandeep Parikh earlier in the week to talk about his recent interactive web series comedy That Moment When... that starred his old roommate/best pal Milana Vayntrub! See how this all ties together, kids? Jimmy and Sandeep also talked about his other work in The Guild, The Legend of Neil and his comedy channel Effin Funny. No regular format show over the next few weeks. Just the awesome and massive SDCC coverage!! Leave your iTunes comments! 5 stars and nothing but love! Also, get a hold of us! Thanks for listening!

We had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Image Comics creator, Dennis Culver. Dennis is the writer of the upcoming book from Image, Burnouts. Burnouts is rated M, and will debut on September 19th, 2018! Make sure you tell your local comic book store that you want it added to your pull, so they can order it! Description of the book from Image - Writer DENNIS CULVER (E Is for Extinction) and artist GEOFFO (layout artist of Marvel Rising) team up for a new ongoing series that combines the paranoia of They Live with Stranger Things. To save their friends and families, a group of high school teenagers must fight off an attack on their town by a secret alien invasion… but they can only see the aliens if they’re completely wasted. The Burnouts are saving the world one puff at a time! Did you read that right? They can ONLY "see the aliens if they're completely wasted." This conversation with Dennis is absolutely hilarious. Imagine the looks you would get when you try and save the earth from invading aliens, but nobody can see them PLUS you're high!! Who the heck would believe that rag tag group of saviors? Well, listen to the interview, and read the book to find out! Dennis and Geoffo did a great job of coming up with something new and different. This book sounds like the hero book you've been looking for, that isn't the same as everything else out there!

Things continue to heat up in the comic book film world as The Comics Pals break down all the news surrounding X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the musical chairs game being played over at Warner Bros. about who will play Batman, and of course, the news that Disney and Fox are very close to signing an acquisition deal, which would see the X-Men and Fantastic Four move over to Marvel for the first time on screen! The Pals also talk about the Power Rangers crossover Shattered Grid, the upcoming Wolverine podcast, and more! But should we be? Could their acquisition of Fox -- which would see the X-Men and Fantastic Four under the MCU umbrella for the first time in history -- spell doom for the MCU as we know it? How can all of the character's Marvel would now have the rights to exist under the same banner and receive equal treatment without Disney cannibalizing itself by publishing too many superhero films per year? And finally, given that Marvel is unlikely to ever break from their usual formula, meaning that films like Deadpool and Logan never would have been made in the MCU, are we at risk of superhero films becoming too samey, and losing out on the different voice that the Fox films offered? The Comics Pals tackle all those big questions and more! The Comics Pals is a weekly comic book podcast where a group of comic book journalists and friends get together to talk comics. Join your favorite podcast Earth-XFreedom Fighters (Claire Lanay, Capt. Kirk, Daryll B. & Dburt) as they ventilate on the following pulp topics: our impressions of new trailer releases on the web (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; Jessica Jones S2, Alita: Battle Angel, Altered Carbon and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom); Marvel "doubles down" on their diversity initiatives with a new animated franchise entitled, Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors (to the chagrin of many fanboys who are loyal to the traditional IPs); a federal jury ruled in San Diego Comic Con's favor against Salt Lake Comic Con for their usage of the term "comic con." What does that mean for the countless pulp events using that nomenclature globally?; now that auteur director Quentin Tarantino has been tapped to helm a new Star Trek film, not only could it be rated R but Capt. Picard (when he's not Professor X) himself, Patrick Stewart stated that he would be down to be in it (as Picard? is this the Kelvin Universe?); after a delayed viewing (a year!), Dburt finally watched Fantastic Beasts....what's the deal with Johnny Depp's casting for the sequel and with the Black Panther's success lurking in '18, can we see a POC Potterverse? ; there's a shake up at the WB over the poor performance of last month's Justice League at the box office; X-Men Dark Phoenix pics hit the net. And lastly Lion Forge's Puerto Rico Strong anthology comes in March '18 showcasing Puerto Rican creators as well as lending aid to the storm struck island. Call LIVE at 646-915-9620.
