This week, Hackaday's Elliot Williams and Kristina Panos met up over coffee to bring you the latest news, mystery sound results show, and of course, a big bunch of hacks from the previous seven days or so. We found no news to speak of, except that Kristina has ditched Windows after roughly 38 years. What is she running now? What does she miss about Windows? Tune in to find out. On What's That Sound, Kristina thought it was a jackhammer, but [Statistically Unlikely] knew it was ground-tamper thingy, and won a Hackaday Podcast t-shirt! Congratulations! After that, it's on to the hacks and such, beginning with 3D printing on the nano scale, and a couple of typewriter-based hacks. Then we take a look at the beauty of the math behind graph theory, especially when it comes to circuit sculptures and neckties. We also talk display hacking, macro pads with haptic feedback knobs, and writing code in Welsh. Finally, we discuss the Virtual Boy, and ponder whether vibe coding is killing open source. Check out the links on Hackaday if you want to follow along, and as always, tell us what you think about this episode in the comments!

This game's pretty sick.If you haven't played it, it's a standard sidescrolling shooter/platformer, but with one catch: no jumping. All your platforming is done with a grappling hook. It's a really ambitious concept with a learning curve to be sure, but for the most part I think it works great. Add in a map to explore, a story (kinda) and hitler's exploding head (seriously), and you have yourself a Commando that's Bionic, my friend. My buddy David Rae makes his return to the show this week and we're finally talking the game he's been holding me to play since RTG started. We're getting into the map, the difficulty, the grappling hook adventures, and yes of course, killing Hitler. All par for the course when it comes to the NES.And before we grapple I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks if RTG will ever join the video podcast ranks? What forgotten series needs a revival next? And am I planning to check out the Virtual Boy games on the Switch 2??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 NES Capcom games: Mighty Final Fight, Code Name: Viper, and Yo! Noid.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on 1985's Ultima IV. We talk a lot about the mysterious sense of the game, the talking interface and mechanics, and dive a bit into combat before turning to reader mail. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Another number of hours Issues covered: missing out on talking to someone, sleeping sprites, having a talk prompt and fallbacks, having generic topics per town, putting together with nouns and verbs, adding to world-building, introducing riddles and puzzles, having a sense of what's going on under the hood, exploring through talking, the technical implementation issues, the letter limits, likely implementation details, iterating on a design, fast travel, the many eights, explaining the moon gates, fleeing a boat, the ways you can pause the game, how the moon states work, the persistence of the world, the long table, more arguments for the persistence of the world, getting into combat, the zoomed in battlefield, strategizing around leveling up characters, readying/switching weapons, anticipating dungeon combat, the combat soundscape and understanding the battle, using every key on the keyboard, how many monsters there are, leveling combat, leveling up by talking with Lord British, non-linear XP table, reinforcing the relationship with both Lord British and Richard Garriott, having the cycle of leveling up, the surprise of discovering Magincia, a question of controllers, swapping between screens, distinctions between different Pikmin games, our favorite Pikmin types, charity unlocks, capybara attacks. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Sierra, King's Quest (series), LucasArts, Dungeons & Dragons, Larian, Baldur's Gate (series), Eye of the Beholder, The Outer Wilds, Her Story, Sam Barlow, Deadly Premonition, Ultima Underworld, Final Fantasy Tactics, The Elder Scrolls (series), Serious Sam, Richard Garriott, Ultima Online, Darren Johnson, Star Wars (obliquely), Pikmin, Dark Souls, Missile Command, MysteryDip, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Calamity Nolan, Virtual Boy, Okami, The Simpons (obliquely), Asher, FSSZilla, Cuphead, Hitman, Metal Gear Solid, Dwarf Fortress, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. This week Cyril from Defunct Games & emulation advocate Michael Domangue join to discuss the current state of the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo Classics apps and compare their features to the many ways that traditional emulation has evolved over the years. Online play with friends, rewinding, and ease of use are all great features, but there are several innovations in emulation that Nintendo could utilize to make their service even better. We go over these and take a look at the subscription service as a whole. We also cover all the Nintendo and gaming news such as fresh Direct rumors, Dispatch being censored on Nintendo platforms, Virtual Boy getting new unreleased games, major gaming figures found in the Epstein files and much more. As always, we close with the games we've been playing. Welcome to Episode 151 of Nintendo Therapy, the show where we break down the latest Nintendo news and rumors while celebrating everything that makes Nintendo… Nintendo. This week, we circle back to a few follow-ups from last episode — including a change of heart on the best remake (spoiler: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 rules), a closer look at Nintendo's very deliberate drip-feeding of Virtual Boy games on Nintendo Classics, and a deep dive into the increasingly questionable logic of Nintendo timelines. Kevin also lays out an ambitious goal for 2026: playing through the Metroid series in timeline order… assuming any of it actually happened.Meanwhile, Harrison brings a brand-new segment to the table: “Two Are Canon, One Is Fake.” No prep, no mercy, and a graphic already locked and loaded.Nintendo Therapy Podcast is part of the Sidepanel Network.
