Tis' the Season: Navigating the Pressures of Relationships & Holiday DatingThis time of the year – in addition to being the holidays – is also known as “cuffing season.” It is a time of the year when single people look to connect in shorter-term relationships to get through the holidays and colder winter months. It unofficially runs from October through about Valentine's Day. But it can feel more intense with the holidays coming soon. KUT's Jennifer Stayton talked recently with Central Texas neuropsychotherapist Bella J. Rockman MA, LPC, LCDC-i about that pressure to “couple up,” especially ahead of the holidays. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bella-rockman/support

A conversation with JRock and Anna Westbrook of Isabel and the Runaway Train
Junice Rockman defines toxic positivity as as overgeneralizing a happy outlook in a way that causes "denial, minimization and invalidation of authentic human experiences."
Recent events have laid bare that trauma and racism, though the systems that helped create and sustain them have been in place for centuries. Rockman says confronting and dismantling racism starts with understanding that the system has impacted everyone in different ways.
Deep breathing immediately relaxes the body because it stimulates the vagus nerve, which runs from the neck to the abdomen and turns off the ‘fight or flight’ reflex. Also, stimulating the vagus nerve activates your relaxation response, reducing your heart rate and blood pressure. Deep breathing activates the vagus nerve enough that it acts as a "brake" on the stress response. Take a moment, breath with me. This is something you can use throughout the day or at the end of your day to clear debris or stress that has accumulated.
