Have you ever asked yourself or your family, "How full am I?" BEFORE a meal? Our guest today suggests doing just that to help understand how different our bodies feel before and after eating as a way to regulate your body using Lifestyle Habits. She also says the scale isn't always right - listen to the episode to find out why.  Our guest today, Sam Cutler, is a Harvard-trained nutritional health coach as well as the founder and CEO of the lifestyle medicine app, www.MINDFULL.so According to the website www.MINDFULL.so is "a meal planning and health coaching app where [Sam] guides thousands of women to live a life of food freedom, walking away from counting and tracking towards a life of eating primarily whole, nourishing foods." In this episode Sam discusses the importance of lifestyle habits as primary medicine for health. She emphasizes the role of food in this and shared her personal experiences with a health-conscious upbringing and the challenges she faced when she left home. Sam highlights the benefits of involving children in the cooking process and encouraging them to understand the benefits of different nutrients. She also discusses the value of being mindful of one's body and emotions, especially during hormonal fluctuations. Sam discusses the importance of incorporating anti-inflammatory foods into our diet to regulate bodily inflammation, which can impact various aspects of health, including hormones, mood, energy levels, and bowel movements. She explains that inflammation can lead to the development of chronic conditions and diseases. Sam recommends incorporating foods like turmeric, ginger, leafy greens, and fermented items like sauerkraut and kimchi into their diet to support gut health, which in turn can lower inflammation. Sam emphasizes that small changes in daily habits, such as incorporating more whole foods into the diet, can have a significant impact on health. She also discusses the role of stress and the need to lower it, as well as the influence of environmental factors on health.  Sam discusses the importance of healthy meal choices and the challenges of meal preparation. She proposes a simplified approach to meal planning and preparation, focusing on ingredient preparation and ratio assessment to ensure balanced meals. She emphasizes the value of having flexible, repeat ingredients to reduce waste and allow for customization. She also suggests the use of an air fryer for quick and easy vegetable preparation.  Sam mentions the practice of "extending" leftovers into new meals like soups or salads to prevent food waste and emphasized listening to your body's intuitive hunger and nutritional cravings, which fluctuate based on factors like activity levels, stress, menstrual cycles, and mental energy. She explains that increased demands necessitate more nourishment, rather than attributing it to "stress eating."  Sam is offering the TYT listeners 50% off their first month of the www.MINDFULL app using the promo code "Toddler50" so check it out here!  Find Sam here: Her website: thefitfatale.com Instagram: @thefitfatale Facebook: thefitfatale Tik tok: thefitfatale   Please like and subscribe to our podcast and leave a 5-star review so we can reach more parents like you!   See the visual I used as the icon for this podcast episode? Take a look at it. You see a woman taking a walk with her animals. While they are all on the same path, seeing the same things, the woman is distracted by her thoughts instead of being in the moment, experiencing nature and the company of the animals. The woman is physically there but not present.  It is an excellent reminder that you might be standing, sitting, or walking next to your animal in physical proximity; a leash or lead rope might physically connect you, yet you might not be present and in the moment at all.   There is no question that it is hard for humans to stay present for long periods. That's just not how we are designed. Our mind takes up most of our time, but being present and tuned in to our senses and body makes life much richer. The cool part about animals is how often your animal helps you and invites you to be present. Tune in to explore how animals pull us into the now. Most of us live mindlessly. This is a natural adaptation to the demands of our daily lives. We are distracted from the moment we get up til the moment we go to bed. Our minds are always whirling with deadlines, errands, people, and thoughts we have about it all. Additionally, we are almost always multitasking. We have our music on while driving, checking our emails while on the phone, cooking while trying to clean up and have a conversation. Our attention is rarely focused on just one thing at a time, which makes it impossible to be fully immersed in all of the things we are doing. Mindfulness is slowing down some of what we are doing and focusing on one thing at a time. While it is very difficult to be fully present every waking moment, we can work to cultivate some more mindfulness in some small moments of our day. With practice, these small moments of mindfulness can carry over into the rest of our lives, and help us to be more present in our days. Tell me about your mindfulness practice . . . A Beautiful MindA Beautiful Mind Full Book Introduction A Beautiful Mind recounts the life of Nobel Laureate economist John Forbes Nash. The movie, adapted from the eponymous book, achieved massive popularity, taking home Best Picture in the 74th Academy Awards. Up until the age of thirty, Nash was hailed as a genius, a dazzling mathematician. However, mental illness turned his life upside down and tore apart his happy family. This book tells of Nash's life and the experiences of the people who were close to him. Undoubtedly, all of them shared his beautiful mind. Author : Sylvia NasarSylvia Nasar was a staff writer at Fortune, a columnist at U.S. News & World Report, and a New York Times economics correspondent. She was visiting fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, and at King's College and Churchill College Cambridge. A Beautiful Mind is her inaugural work. It won the 1988 National Book Critics Circle Award for biography. Overview | Chapter 1Hi, welcome to Bookey. Today we will unlock the book A Beautiful Mind. On May 24, 2015, the world was shocked by the news that John and Alicia Nash had died in a car crash in New Jersey. You may not know the name John Forbes Nash. But many of you are likely to remember the film A Beautiful Mind, which won Best Picture at the 74th Academy Awards. In real life, the movie's protagonist, Nash, was an eminent mathematician and economist; in fact in 1994, he was a Nobel Laureate economist. In the film, Nash's story is cleverly portrayed. The movie opens with Nash's university life, his roommate, and lodgings. Everything seems fine and peaceful. After his postgraduate studies, Nash obtains a professorship and falls in love with a beautiful young woman, Alicia. They are soon married. While Nash's academic career is blossoming, the U.S. Defense Department approaches him, and he is given an opportunity to work closely with them on top-secret national security projects. Until this point, undoubtedly, in the eyes of the world, Nash is a born winner with a successful career, romance, and a loving relationship. However, in a dramatic plot twist, it turns out that in Nash's life, everything is pure illusion. He does not have a roommate. No agents are commissioning his work, and there are no secret projects. His wife is the only real thing in his life. Only later does the story divulge that Nash suffers from schizophrenia. All he sees, the activities and scenes going on in his mind, are nothing but hallucinations. The movie is adapted from the book that is the subject of this bookey. While the film inevitably dramatizes the story, embellishing it with additional fictional elements, the book is a matter-of-fact portrayal of Nash's life. The mathematical genius had thirty years of splendor. He rose above his peers like the brightest star in the night sky. However, when he was thirty, schizophrenia struck, and it deprived Nash of all that was wholesome and assured in his life. There followed a harrowing battle. For 30 years Nash fought against the disease and, in the end, miraculously got the upper hand. He recovered, and at this time was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics. The book's author, Sylvia Nasar, was a staff writer at Fortune and a columnist at U.S. News & World Report. In 2002 she was a visiting fellow at King's College and Churchill College Cambridge. Today's book A Beautiful Mind is Nasar's inaugural work, and it is the book that made her reputation. She received the 1988 National Book Critics Circle Award for biography and the 2000 Joint Policy Board Mathematics Communications...
