Note to Self Diaries is a pep talk and sermon all wrapped in one. It's like having a conversation with your best friend about the things that really matter to you. No judging, no shaming. Grab your wine... Grab your coffee... Grab your tea , have a seat, and let’s talk.
Today's session is dedicated to those who are struggling with the belief that there is only one way to achieve or accomplish your goal. After listening to today's podcast, I hope you hold on to the fact that: Sometimes walking alone is a good thing You can go east, or west, and still arrive at your destination Taking an unexpected path is a form of self-discovery If anything I said from today's session resonated with you I'd love to hear all about it. You may share your comments with me via email at alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or you can slide into my DMs on IG and share your feedback there @notetoselfdiaries Can't wait to hear from you!
Think about someone you admire in your field of interest- someone who is at a level you aspire to be. Now think about this: imagine the number of times they had to do the same things over and over and over again until they became so good at it that it grabbed, and held, our attention. So much so that we now aspire to get to where they're at. In repeatedly doing the mundane, the boring, the not-so-glamourous they were able to achieve a level of success that motivates us every time we think about them. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries, I share with you some of the lessons I'm learning about the monotonous habit known as 'repetition.' . . If anything I said from today's session resonated with you I'd love to hear all about it. Share your comments with me via email at alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or you can slide into my DMs on IG and share your feedback there @notetoselfdiaries
Let's be honest, we don't easily like to be spoken to- if at all. And if we're to really, really be honest we'd even go a step further in saying that any spotlight shone on our flaws immediately warrants disconnection from the person bold enough to point out our not so nice traits. You know what I learned recently about this kind of behaviour? It's covered in arrogance and if we're not careful, we can sabotage some really valuable relationships. Press play to hear more about how my own pride almost cost me a relationship like no other and the lessons I learned about being open to constructive criticism. . . Did anything from today's session resonate with you? If so I'd love to hear all about it. Lately, I've been consumed by this immense urge to "start over." I find myself going on and on, in my head, about how I've failed in a particular area and how I could have done better, when really, what I should've been doing is giving myself grace and not being afraid to pick up the ball and go again. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries I add a bit more context to this and I also talk about how time spent beating ourselves up is simply energy being misplaced. I hope something resonates with you. To share your thoughts on I today's topic I invite you to send your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or feel free to connect with me through my DMs on IG @notetoselfdiaries.
I found myself contemplating this question recently: "Why do I feel guilty for not struggling anymore?" It's an odd question because who wants to struggle/continue struggling? When I pondered the question further I came to the realization that when we're not used to excess, we don't know what to do with it and that often manifests itself as imposing limitations on ourselves, thinking that we're not good enough for certain things, and even subjecting ourselves to situations that clearly do not serve our higher good. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries, I explore some of the many reasons why we tend to feel guilting for doing well and celebrating ourselves, and I also talk about ways in which we can begin to combat those feelings. I hope today's session reaches who it was meant for and that you take what's needed. Don't be shy with the feedback; I'd love to hear your thoughts on today's topic. Please send your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or feel free to connect with me through my DMs on IG @notetoselfdiaries.
New Year. New Season. Lot's more to share on NTSD! These past few months have opened my eyes to a very important lesson: we don't have to struggle for everything we get to enjoy. It is absolutely OKAY to do and have something just because! In today's session of Note to Self Diaries, I explore this further by sharing with you how once experience opened me up to saying "yes" to more comfort, more convenience, and more luxury. I also talk about the guilt I experienced after saying, "yes," and the decision I plan to stand by moving forward. I hope today's session reaches who it was meant for and that you take what's needed. Please don't be shy with the feedback; I'd love to hear your thoughts on today's topic. Can you relate? Send your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or feel free to connect with me through my DMs on IG @notetoselfdiaries.
We're closing out Season 2 with this reminder: we are no longer matching energies. Responding in kind to disrespect, rude behavior, and the like actually does more harm to us than the other person. As we move closer towards closing the chapter that is 2021- and as we drop the curtain on Season 2, I hope this session of Note to Self Diaries encourages you to go high as they go low. Thank you for pressing play. Thank you for your continued support. And I look forward to learning and growing with you, God's willing, in 2022. P.S. Don't be shy with the feedback; I'd love to hear your thoughts on today's session. Can you relate? Sometimes you hear something and it clicks right away, and other times you have to hear something several times before you get the revelation. Here's a hard truth I had to come to terms with recently: there is no success without difficulties, challenges and uncomfortable moments. You'd think that in my 30 years of living this wouldn't be such a shocker- but guest what? It was! In today's session of Note to Self Diaries I talk about the lessons we all need to pay attention to during those uncomfortable times of personal development journey. If you enjoyed today's session, and would love to share your feedback on the topic, I would love to hear from you! Life happens. Things get busy. And sometimes we fall off track in working towards our goals. Instead of beating ourselves up about it, why not hit the reset button? Today's session of Note to Self Diaries is a reminder than we can reset as many times as needed. We don't have to stay down just because we missed a few days of consistency. If you enjoyed today's session, and would love to share your feedback on the topic, I would love to hear from you! You can send your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or you can slide into my DMs on IG @notetoselfdiaries and share there. Can't wait to hear from you!
Wherever there's bait, there will be a bite. Likewise, whenever we hold space for something-especially the things we claim to want to move away from, what happens is we find ourselves in a cycle of bad habits and self-sabotaging behaviours. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries, we explore common ways in which we cheat our own growth by choosing not to let go of what is no longer good for us. If you enjoyed today's session, and would love to share your feedback on the topic, I would love to hear from you! You can send your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or you can slide into my DMs on IG @notetoselfdiaries and share there. Can't wait to hear from you!
We can't compare apples to oranges. The work that someone else has to do vs. the work that we have to put in is going to be different because we don't all want the same things, and what's needed from us to elevate to the next level vs. what's needed from our neighbor is going to look different. Today's session of Note to Self Diaries is a reminder to capitalize on the time we have NOW to lay the foundation for the life we ultimately want to enjoy. If you enjoyed today's session, and would love to share your feedback on the topic, I would love to hear from you! You can share your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or you can slide into my DMs on IG @notetoselfdiaries.
If someone were to ask us, "Are you afraid to grow?" our immediate response would be, "No!" - followed by a judgmental side-eye for even having the audacity to ask such a question. But...if we were to judge what we claim to say we want versus what we're doing to achieve those things, we'd quickly recognize the disconnect. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries, I share with you two of the main reasons we're afraid to grow- based on personal experiences, and I also discuss non-essentials and how they hinder our growth. I would love to hear your thoughts on today's topic. You can send your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or you can slide into my DMs @notetoselfdiaries and share your feedback there. New levels require new versions of us every single time. The version of us that's needed at level 5 is currently being developed right here at level 3. The lessons that we're learning, the mistakes that we're making, and the things that we wanted to happen but didn't are all for our greater good. My hope for today's session is that it would encourage you to not cheat yourself by trying to arrive at the next level prematurely, but to appreciate where you are now and all that's helping you become that improved version of yourself. If you enjoyed today's episode, I'd love to hear about it. You can connect with me on Instagram @notetoselfdiaires or you can share your comments via email at alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com.
This is your reminder to: -Embrace rest & relaxation-without feeling guilty about it. -Set and maintain healthy boundaries when its comes to how accessible you are to others. -Keep and eye out for those who use guilt to convince you that burnout is okay. Admitting that we're jealous of someone isn't the easiest thing to face- ESPECIALLY if the person we're envious of is someone close to us. But...would you believe me if I told you that those feelings of jealousy and envy are actually trying to make you a better person? In today's session of Note to Self Diaries I share 3 common scenarios that spark jealousy within us and what we can learn from them. I would love to hear your thoughts on today's topic. Have you ever felt guilty for being happy? Me too! One thing I'm coming to grips with during this awkward scene of adulthood is, we don't have to dilute our joy in order to prove to someone that we empathize with their situation. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries, I share more on the revelations I'm uncovering as I continue to navigate this strange chapter. Every time we choose to stay in our feelings, we're giving the person who provoked, annoyed, or frustrate us, a level of control they do not deserve. . In today's episode of Note to Self Diaries, I share more on this self-sabotaging act that has been detrimental to our personal growth. . If you enjoyed today's episode and would love to share your thoughts, I invite you to send your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or via DM on Instagram @notetoselfdiaires. You know what's torture? Doing something that brings you no joy and no satisfaction. We were all given a specific set of skills that were meant to feed us- both literally (through financial compensation) and figuratively (by giving us a sense of purpose and fulfillment). Sadly, for many of us, instead of honing those skills, we have chosen to settle where we are. In today's Session of Note to Self Diaries, I share with you 4 reasons why we don't operate from our zone of genius and why we should. I'd love to hear your thoughts on today's episode! Send your comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com or via DM on Instagram @notetoselfdiaries. With your permission, your comments will be shared in the next episode of NTSD.
I get it...it's kind of hard to move in another direction or venture into other areas of interest if we've only been known for one particular thing. But here's the plot twist, the answer to someone's question or the solution to someone's problem is all wrapped up inside you but you wouldn't know that and they can't benefit if you continue to remain fearful of what people will say if you go in a direction they were not expecting. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries we look at personal evolution: reason's why we're afraid to change, and reasons why we should. I'd love to hear your feedback on today's episode! Send your voice or text comments to alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com. Don't have a comment but would love to share a personal lesson that stood out to you recently? I'd love to hear that, too. Support isn't guaranteed just because they're you're friend or family- I know it sucks when Mom and Dad aren't the first purchasers of your new product, or your best friend isn't liking, commenting, or sharing every new podcast or YouTube episode you upload. Sometimes, there are other reasons why you're not receiving the support you're expecting. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries, I share 5 reasons why people may not be supporting you and the one thing you're doing that may be a turn off. I would love to hear your feedback on today's episode, or about a lesson that really stood out to you recently. This week's session comes as a reminder to protect your peace . The text, the call, the snarky comment- you don't have to give the sender of the bad vibes the satisfaction of knowing that they touched a nerve by reacting negatively AND prolonging that negative feeling by allowing what they said or did to fester within us hours, days, or weeks. You're the gatekeeper. You control who takes up space in your world. I hope this session reminds you to take control. I'd love to hear your thoughts on today's session; you can email me your comments or voice notes at alicia@notetoselfdiaries.com, or you can DM me on IG @notetoselfdiaries. Who would have thought that the answers I've been looking for, in connection to my career path, would have been wrapped up in meditation? Certainly not me. I thought I knew how to ask for help...until I had to. As much as we think we can, there are some things we can't do on our own and reaching out to a mentor or confidant and seeking their advice/opinion on something we're struggling with isn't an act of weakness, but rather, an act of strength. An apology is more than just "I'm sorry." We all hate it when someone "apologizes" to us, but judging from their tone and expression we know that they didn't mean it. If we were to turn and look at ourselves, can we honestly say that when we apologize to God it's sincere? If it is, are our actions lining up with our words? In today's session to Note to Self Diaries, I dissect what it means to truly apologize to God and I also share the one thing we can do to keep ourselves from repeating our offenses. I think the simplicity of God intimidates a lot of us. I can't blame us because we were either taught or we witnessed first hand that in order to be close to God, we have to "perform"- you know, the jumping up and down, the screaming, the speaking in tongues... we didn't learn that what God really wants from us is for us to involve Him in our decision making, for us to run to Him first when we need to vent. In today's session of Note to Self Diaries I remind you that we don't have to "do the most" to be loved by God or to have a relationship with Him. Today's session comes as a PSA: YOU HAVE TO GET INTO FIGHT MODE. You've made too many sacrifices and put in too much work, to let your efforts go down for nothing. The enemy doesn't want to see you cross that finish. That's why he's been throwing distractions, and temptations, and discouragement your way. Now that the answered prayer, the promotion, the blessing, is around the corner, he's going to try everything to get you to quit, but you can't let him win. You have to get into fight mode so you can cross that finish line. Are you brave enough to stand alone? Are you courageous enough to pursue what brings you joy even if those around you are anti your decision? I don't know who needs to hear this, but asking for help will not get you 25 years to life in prison- it is not a crime. If we didn't need help to accomplish our goals or get to the next level, God, in all His wisdom, wouldn't bless us with teachers, and coaches, and trainers, and mentors. In this session of Note to Self Diaries I share with you why YOU SHOULD ask for help if your goal is to advance to the next level. There's more to loving yourself than spa days and "catching flights not feelings." Loving yourself also involves keeping the promises you make to yourself, and not giving into the urge to always defend your reason for saying not because it made a former manipulator uncomfortable. You’d think that because no one knows what we’re doing behind the scenes that it isn’t going to affect anyone…. But that’s until we’re exposed. How does that saying go again? What’s done in the dark must come to light? In this session of NTSD, I share with you: 1. How the devil uses our desires and fears against us to get us to do what we know we shouldn't 2. At some point we have to come to terms with the fact that there is no short cut to our success. If we truly want what we say we want we're going to have to stop with the excuses, stop paying so much attention to what other people are doing, stop complaining...and just do the work. We grew up hearing that God is many things: He's a provider, a healer, a comforter. Rarely were we taught to embrace God as friend. This is even more surprising when we consider the fact that, in His word, God refers to us as His friend! We can go from excited to worried real quick when we try to figure out the HOWs, WHENs, and WHATs of our requests to God. Working out the particulars, considering things we didn't even think about, and putting everything in place to ensure our happiness...that's God's job. For the man that made every finger print on each of your fingers unique to each other and the only ones in the WOLRD, I think it's safe to say that He knows a thing or two about paying attention to detail. In this episode of NTSD, I share with you why we should let God take care of the details. Be sure to follow Note to Self Diaries on Instagram for daily doses of encouragement: @notetoselfdiaries
