Send us a Text Message. In this episode, Josh and I speak with Ty, a 2nd generation plumber who comes from Roto-Rooter where he was the service manager for some time. He shares his experience working for one of these larger private equity/corporate companies and how dropping out of college ( but later returning to receive his associate's) led to a very lucrative career in plumbing where he strives to be a leader in his field by embracing the "Education Over Persuasion" philosophy and ditching the high-pressure sales/scare tactics that are unfortunately a part of our industry. He also offers his advice on new constriction vs service for apprentices who are unsure and discusses the differences between a leader and a manager. Are you checking the three vitals at every call? Just like a doctor, plumbers have vitals to the Plumbing system that should be checked during every visit. Age, pressure, and water quality. These are the three leading causes for most plumbing problems. It's crucial that we diagnose the entire system and not just fix the symptoms. Checking these three measurements will help you increase your ticket averages and provide better service to the customer.
Is sales evil? That greatly depends on the intention behind your tactics. In this episodes I talk about the idea of building trust, educating the customer, presenting options, and letting them choose instead of trying to trick or persuade them.Don't deny the customer the right to choose their own solution.
In this episode, I discuss my approach to running drain calls. I think it's crucial to structure the call so that you do not end up in a situation where you're not getting paid for hours worth of work. The key to everything is getting a camera down the line. This is how you know for sure what's wrong with the plumbing and how to justify larger repairs. Also, episode release schedule will be Monday Wednesday Friday. I'm trying to do one interview per week. Not sure which day that will be released yet.
In this episode, I discuss what it means to provide service in the plumbing field. Mostly, it's about the little things that add up to a great customer experience. We also want to listen to the customer and ask questions to better understand their particular situation. They will quickly forget what we did, but always remember how we made them feel. We want that to be as positive as possible.
In this episode, I discuss the 3 reasons you should consider being a residential service plumber: pay, job security, and autonomy.Service plumbing, and the trades in general, are a great career opportunity for the foreseeable future. Most people overlook the trades because they don't realize how lucrative and fulfilling it can be. Hopefully, this episode will spark your interest in Service plumbing and you'll consider this profession as a legitimate college alternative.
