Season One of The Elgin Watchman podcast is almost over, but there are still a few loose ends to tie-up. Loose ends such as the December 2022 Elgin Sustainability Commission meeting. So, this episode is unlike any other 2022 episode. Tia is on sabbatical. Erik was out-of-state and couldn't attend the December meeting. So, Franklin Ramirez did The Elgin Watchman a "solid favor" by agreeing to attend the meeting and allow Erik to interview him after the fact.Did we mention that Frankin's 16-year-old nephew -- Trey -- joined us in the podcast studio and provided "color commentary". Again, this was a very unique and interesting podcast episode. In fact, it was kinda cool to have a Generation Z individual sharing their observations and commentary.Overall, meeting topics discussed included: Elgin Robotics Club; grant report for Sherman Hospital compost structure; grant report for Eastside Neighborhood Community Garden; volunteer recruitment consultant proposals; 2023 project budgets; commissioner term limits; and public power project. For more information about the Elgin Robotics Club and their upcoming competition at Elgin Community College, please go to The Elgin Watchman Facebook page. For more information, please visit our website, LIKE our Facebook page, and subscribe to our podcast using one of the many RSS Readers on our Buzzsprout podcast platform.  And if you haven't downloaded The Elgin Watchman's Single Use Bag Fee Advocacy eGuide, please do so ASAP:Go to our Waste webpage at www.elginwatchman.com/wasteScroll a little bit down the page and you will see itExpand it to full screen, read, and click the buttons/links to learn moreConsider downloading or sharing the eGuide with likeminded friendsStart calling and emailing Mayor David Kaptain and all city council members using the information on the last page of the eGuide. In this episode, Franklin and I discuss what we wish we had known before entering the teaching profession, cultural relevant teaching in the elementary music classroom, and the importance of music education advocacy. You'll get SO much out of this episode and so many amazing ideas, strategies, and thoughts were shared. Some of my favorite things Franklin said in this episode are: Build community, build trust, build relationships Understand that the kids have some brilliance and knowledge that we don't have and be ok with letting them share that with us. Understand what it is that you want to accomplish as a music educator and start with the end in mind. We can accept and realize that it's ok to explore the music our student's enjoy, while still implementing the musical standards. Music education advocacy begins with the teacher and your views on music education. Mr. Franklin J. Willis currently serves as the Elementary Music Coach for the Metro Nashville Public Schools district. In this role he provides instructional support for elementary music teachers in creating a learning environment that fosters meaningful cultural experiences int eh performance, understanding and appreciation of music. Before this new role, Willis taught both general music and choir at the elementary and middle school levels for the past decade. He is a three time recipient of the prestigious Country Music Association Foundation Music Teacher of Excellence award. His student performance groups have been featured on national syndicated television programs such as NBC New with Lester Holt, Entertainment Tonight, and The Today Show. He specializes in providing musical instruction that will empower and engage all children to achieve their best through authentic culturally relevant teaching experiences. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis where he earned a Bachelor's of Music Education with an emphasis in choral music. Willis also earned the Master of Education Degree in Nonprofit Leadership at Belmont University. Freshly back from hiatus, the Grateful Dead delivered the potent yet polarizing Blues for Allah in September 1975. Containing soon-to-be set staples like “Help on the Way,” Slipknot,” Frankin’s Tower,” “Crazy Fingers,” and “The Music Never Stopped,” Blues for Allah has all the hallmarks of a classic Dead record. Still, it’s hard to make the case that these versions are definitive, especially with so many incredible live takes yet to come. In some ways, Blues for Allah is like software in beta—absolutely necessary to future iterations, but still a little buggy. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth revisiting or checking out for the first time. Stately, intoxicating, and occasionally impenetrable, this is a record that demands your full attention. One litigant argues that the tax code creates the new religion of “taxism” in violation of the First Amendment.Learn more at FirstLiberty.org/Briefing. Ben Franklin reportedly said, “There is nothing certain in life except for death and taxes.”  Well, in a 548-page complaint, one man has targeted at least one of those certainties, and it’s not death.  Terry Lee Hinds contends that the United States Tax Code has violated the Constitution by establishing “taxism,” an institutionalized faith and religion.  Because the tax code has the effect of favoring and even promoting organized religions through tax breaks and other benefits, Mr. Hinds believes the tax code is in violation of the First Amendment. Well, I suppose this is the sort of case that law students are forced to grapple with, but actually have little effect in the real world.  Some may dream such a lawsuit is the silver bullet to bring down our ghoulish tax system. Alas, Mr. Hinds’ lawsuit will not free us from the taxman’s visit every April 15.  For one reason, taxpayers have a lot of hurdles to overcome just to bring the lawsuit. Mere allegations—even ones dressed up in the garb of a First Amendment challenge—that they do not like to pay taxes will not be sufficient. For now, Mr. Hinds and the rest of us will have to continue to pay our taxes and, most importantly, the religious charities and houses of worship that are exempt from them will continue to be exempt.   Yesterday I went on a tirade over the wall to wall coverage of the various sex scandals hitting the news. It's all partisan, and none of it matters. Last night while I was trolling the interwebs looking for good stories I ran across the infamous picture of Al Franken "groping." a young actress and model back in 2006. Up until then, I'd only heard the conservative commentary about the incident on the radio. To listen to them tell it, Frankin fondled some poor woman while she was sleeping and had some idiot take pictures of it but the image itself shows a very different story. When I saw the photo I got angry...really angry and I started doing some research, and it turns out the real tragedy, the real crime wasn't what's shown in the photo but what happened before, and after the incident. I'll run through the entire story today and give you some perspective you won't get from Main Stream Talk. Jason   Support the show.

Anyone else find it humorous that Frankin thinks government would do a better job of managing social media than the media companies themselves? ***We're also going to talk Venezuela. Their incoming cats & dogs initially reside in foster homes with volunteer families. There, the animals receive any needed vet care, including vaccinations, testing, & spaying or neutering, as well as socialization. Once they are deemed healthy, and ready for adoption, the pets move to the Adoption Center, where potential adopters can visit with them. In the Cat Center, feline residents range freely through a home-like setting, complete with comfortable furniture and a view of bird feeders. In the Dog Center, each dog has a spacious kennel with access to an outdoor run, as well as access to one of three large exercise yards.  “Because You Care” also has an indoor playroom where the dogs can play & socialize in inclement weather. “Because You Care” is concerned with companion animal overpopulation and works to reduce the number of unwanted stray pets. To this end, all pets in their care are spayed and neutered, and the dogs, microchipped. They rely solely on memberships and donations and the efforts of volunteers to carry out our mission. “Because You Care,” does an incredible amount of lifesaving work, & Kristine joins Bruce & Hobbes to talk about it! During her visit, Kristine discusses: The organization’s history, and mission. Where they operate, and the area of the country they cover. Where the animals they help come from. Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— and all the brothers and sisters with me, To the churches in Galatia: Galatians 1:1-2 [I was] circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee…as for righteousness based on the law, faultless. Philippians 3:5-6 …intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. Galatians 1:13-14 [Saul] fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Acts 9:4-6 …sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead… Galatians 1:1 See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand! Galatians 6:11 You’ve been rescued Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Galatians 1:3-5 God so loved the world that he gave (dídomi) his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings. 1 Corinthians 7:23 Some will try to enslave you again. I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. Galatians 1:6-7 IMAGE: PESEVERATION – man walking in circles Avoid the two paths to "do it yourself" grace Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:26-27 “…a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ…because by the works of the law no one will be justified! …If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker.” Galatians 2:16, 18 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:14 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Romans 6:1-2 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. John 15:10 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. John 15:12 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” Galatians 2:21 You’re free forever “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 Use your freedom! For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13 (NLT)

Real Food For Real Life

About Tiffany: I’m a former Chemist (with a degree in Biology) in my mid 30’s. I live in Northern Utah with my husband, Justin and our three spunky kids. I think it’s pretty obvious that I love food, (yeah, I created an entire blog, Whole Fork, dedicated to it). I spent most of my career running around the globe teaching people how to use portable Mass Spectrometry to analyze all sorts of chemicals. It was fun, and the travel was amazing (hello Cairo, Moscow, Warsaw and more), but my true passion is food and more importantly health. And maybe even more important than that, what motivates us to eat what we eat. I spent most of my life not really worrying about what I ate. I was a really active kid and played any sport I could fit in my schedule. Food had very little effect on my body. I ate when I was hungry, and that basically summed it up. That is until I hit college. I won’t lie, I was still pretty fit in college, but my diet was terrible. A lot of fast food, anything I could eat on the go, and many late night burrito runs with my roommates. Like most college freshman I gained a little weight which made me feel self-conscious. Since my early 20’s my weight and health have fluctuated due to stress, school, marriage, pregnancy etc. Finally, I decided I was going to shed any of those extra pounds once and for all, and feel comfortable taking my kids to the swimming pool. I spent that first summer counting calories, eating fat-free Frankin’ foods, processed stuff that came in boxes, bars, and shakes that came in powder form. And, I spent hours riding my bike. I tracked macros, points, calories in, calories burned, weighed and measured all my food, and I was a slave to the scale. It was exhausting. I was hungry, cranky, tired and I had a lot of headaches. Worst of all, my body wasn’t really changing. While surfing the interwebs and Instagram I kept coming across clean eating. It made sense to me to eat foods that come from nature…fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, nuts, seeds, whole grains and healthy oils. At first I thought it sounded crazy restrictive and I couldn’t imagine losing weight while welcoming healthy fats. I was a child of the 80’s raised on skim milk, margarine and fat free cottage cheese. Eating an entire avocado was a completely foreign idea that seemed scary. But, people kept posting their results, and I couldn’t ignore them. So I did my homework, read several books and scientific articles and I couldn’t argue the research. The science is solid, and it’s exactly what I learned in all my human biology classes while studying in college. So I decided to jump in, face first, by going 30 days without any processed foods. Seriously none. Not even a bite, or a lick. The results were nothing short of life changing. No, really, life changing. My results: I lost 6 lbs, headaches gone, stiff joints gone, asthma and seasonal allergies gone. My skin completely cleared up, skin tone evened out, redness gone, and I started to have a healthy glow. My energy shot through the roof. I no longer had the 3pm drag and I stopped taking naps on the weekends. I fell asleep faster and slept throughout the night. My tastes had changed, and sugar no longer had a hold on me. And all my digestive issues (bloating, cramping, constipation) all completely went away. Since our initial dive into clean eating we still try to find that balance between eating mostly all whole food meals, while allowing for a few treats every now and then. I feel like I’m in better shape and have a younger body than when I was in high school. My love of food has made it fun to create tasty and exciting dishes, so my family doesn’t feel deprived while still eating wholesome meals. Feel free to email me if you have any questions attiffany@wholefork.com. About Whole Fork: Whether you call it grain-free, gluten-free, Paleo, whole foods, clean eating (I’m sure I’ve left several other names out)…all the recipes here are created from vegetables, meats, poultry, fruits, nuts and healthy fats. It’s JUST REAL FOOD. We eat (mostly) whole, real foods at home, and this is where I share all those recipes. I started Whole Fork as a way to keep me on track while diving face first into the health world. I spent countless hours on the internet trying to find recipes, inspiration, fitness tips, information on how to start my new healthy lifestyle and be part of a healthy community. Which is exactly what you’ll find here. The first part of that health equation is FOOD. My entire life I have loved food. Creating new and exciting, healthy dishes helps me stay on track with nutrition. I have found that what we put in our bodies affects our health and weight more than anything else. Simply put, you can’t out medicate or out exercise what you eat…you simply can’t outrun your fork! (Hence the name Whole Fork.) No one wants a bland or boring diet. Head on over to my recipes page and start searching for something that makes your mouth water. I figure, if health food can taste amazing I won’t go searching for the junk. The other part of that healthy equation is fitness. I believe in making fitness fun, which lends a hand to me having too many hobbies. Kayaking, golfing, motorcycling, hiking, backpacking, camping, and cycling to name a few.

Deep in China The Mengzhou Session.  ( 深藏在中國。在孟州會議 )   Second installment of Deep in China. I believe I am almost there to finally claim that I have mixed a true full Deep House set. The picture was taken in Mengzhou (a predomiantly muslim enclave) in Henan, China.. At least you will believe me when I write Deep in China. And yes I ate there and no I did not get sick.. at least not there.. No gimmicks, just a selection of five stars deep tracks, which for all but one, I liked and was eager to see how they would blend.   Playlist:   2013 The Deejay's An Alien (Money House Club Remix). David Harness, feat. Roland Clark 2013 This Life Feat. Roland Clark (J & M Brothers Remix). Marcelo Nassi, Rafael Yapudjian and Roland Clark     2013 Liar (Ilias Katelanos Remix). Bourne          2013 Back Home (City Soul Project Remix). Northeye, Frankin 2013 Run (Tantsui Remix). The Maneken 2013 I Go Back (Main Mix). Harry Romero feat. Robert Owens 2012 Feed Me (Dave Nash Remix). Scrub, feat. Barbara and Wahnon 2013 Inside My Love (Original Mix). Magic Eye 2012 Out Of Reach (Alfred Taylor Remix).  Jody Wisternoff feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn 2013 Good Bye (Audiowhores Remix). Dan Nolan 2013 Octavia (Original Mix). Full Intention 2013 Breakin' Of The Dawn 2013 (Ross Couch Remix). DJ 19 2013 Get This House (Original Mix). Deeplomatik   Highlights: “The Deejay's An Alien”.. Well, should you not know what deep house is, listen and hopefully enjoy.. It is the epitome of Deep Dope.. “This Life” continuing the same thread, within a strict key range and Roland Clark to guide us. A final note on the synths.. just perfect.  “Liar” from Bourne, bass line rules in this track, with again intricate soft pads resonating throughout. Great vocalist making it one of the track of the set. Ilias Katelanos on remix duties lifting this track to Deep heaven. “Back Home”. I love the undercurrent of funk and arguably very happy of how both tracks meshed together.. All about the bass and and simple chords.. Again! “Run” from Maneken,, I have used it recently, Deep and Progressive with 80’s vocals hooks throughout.. Immaculate production. “I Go Back” from Harry Romero.. Track was in the Deep folder for a while and at least I am still on cue real deepness with this one. “Feed Me” from Scrub and Wahnon on the darker side of Deep.  Somehow this style talks to me more when I am on the decks than pure deep house, which I may like to listen to but which I have great trouble to stick to. Give it a fair listen it is very good, very polished. “Inside My Love” from Magic Eye.. THE ABSOLUTE GEM OF THE SET!! DO NOT MISS! I will let you discover what’s Inside this Love J, you will regognize it. I will not spill the beans because if you are lazy enough not to listen to the full track, you have not earned the goodies  “inside my love”… Immense production. “Out of Reach” from Jody Wisternoff. I took me a while to like this track, one of the reason being that I do not think the voice of Mendelsohn is used at its full potential.. But the more remixes I hear, the more I get int... And Deep/Progressive it is! “Good Bye” from Das Nolas. By that time the set was well under way . I knew I had (for once) been able to keep it as deep as it ought to be..  I was slowly but surely giving it a more progressive tone and it felt right. Great remix of Audiowhores! “Octavia” from “Full Intention”. Stepping up the mix towards the end.. If I were listening to it, my feet would be itching to move by now.. “Breakin' Of The Dawn 2013”. Closing the loop towards true deep house with Ross Couch on the remix.. I love how it starts deep and touches on soulful when the vocals come in. Ross Couch did a magnificent job with DJ 19 track.. It belongs to any sunset, beach or deep set.. Just to make people happy. And smiling. Closing the set with “Get This House” from Deeplomatik because I hope  that by now I DID get it.. See you soon for the third installment of Deep in China. I did warn you that they would drop like flies.   Xtian
