The Best of You

Connection matters deeply — and yet for many of us, it's never felt more confusing. In this solo episode, Dr. Alison explores the tension many people are navigating right now: how to stay open and loving toward others without losing clarity, discernment, or yourself. Many of us were taught that love means endless accommodation, that boundaries are unkind, or that distance equals failure. Others, weary of being hurt, find themselves pulling back — unsure how to stay connected without feeling drained or unsafe. This episode sits right in the middle of that tension. Rather than offering formulas or quick fixes, Dr. Alison invites listeners to slow down and notice what's happening beneath the surface of relationships — especially the ones that feel confusing, heavy, or hard to interpret. If you've found yourself asking: How do I stay loving without losing myself? How do I know when to lean in — and when to pause? What does discernment look like in real, imperfect relationships? This conversation creates space to reflect without pressure to decide everything right away. More Resources:

Some workdays leave you tired. Others leave you completely wiped, even when you have done everything right. In this episode, I explore why that happens and what it reveals about how work is really experienced. I sat down with Cherie Clonan, founder and CEO of The Digital Picnic, to talk about neurodivergence, energy, and what happens when workplaces are not designed for the people in them. Cherie was diagnosed with Autism as an adult and has spent more than a decade building a business while quietly masking in environments that drained her nervous system. We talk about what masking actually looks like at work, why some workplaces feel exhausting even when you love your job, and how leaders can create cultures that raise energy instead of depleting it. We also go deep into Cherie's hardest year in business, the moment she was forced into action, and the non-negotiables she rebuilt from scratch to protect her energy, her team, and her company. Cherie and I discuss: What masking really looks like for autistic women at work and why it is so exhausting How sensory overload, constant social decoding, and back-to-back meetings drain energy Spoon theory as a practical way to understand energy, capacity, and recovery Why businesses do not fail when they run out of cash but when founders run out of energy The cultural non-negotiables Cherie introduced to rebuild trust, respect, and momentum How removing unnecessary demands can benefit every neurotype at work Key quotes “Businesses do not go out of business when they run out of cash. They fail when the founder runs out of energy.” “Energy loss is data. It is telling you something important about what you are tolerating.” Connect with Cherie Clonan on Instagram and LinkedIn and check out The Digital Picnic. How often have you looked at your bank accounts and thought to yourself, “where did all my money go?”, or how many times have you felt buyers' remorse after purchasing something? The truth is that it's way too easy to spend without noticing how much money is actually slipping away.  In this episode, we'll talk about 7 common habits that cause people to waste money and share some tips on how to correct them.  Links: Check out Triangle's competitive Personal Loan and Auto Loan refinance rates to start saving money Check out TCU University for financial education tips and resources! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter! Learn more about Triangle Credit Union Transcript: Welcome to Money Tip Tuesday from the Making Money Personal podcast.     Many people believe they don't have enough money because they don't earn enough, but often the real issue is spending too much.  Most of us don't spot wasteful spending right away. It can build up for different reasons and turn into a habit. If your habits aren't helping, they could be hurting.  To make the most of your money, it helps to know where you might be wasting it. Here's a list of a few wasteful habits that tend to drain our money.  The first one is throwing away food. Have you ever filled your fridge, only to toss out a lot of it a week later? This is a major way people waste money. If you want to cut waste, start here.  Fix this habit by making a food plan. Choose recipes for each meal, list the ingredients you need, and buy only those. Planning ahead keeps you organized and helps you use everything you buy rather than waste it.  Habit number two is spending too much on dining out. After a long day, it's tempting to order takeout or eat out if you haven't planned a meal. But eating out often adds up fast. With food, drinks, tip, and tax, you might spend more on one meal than it would cost to make several at home.   What can you do? Plan your at-home meals in advance and set a budget for dining out. This way, you'll have money set aside to spend on dining and can enjoy eating out without guilt.  Habit number three is impulse buying.  Impulse buying often happens for emotional reasons. If you buy more than you planned, that's an impulse purchase. This can waste a lot of money, especially if you didn't budget for it. To change this, try shopping in person with cash and bring a list—only buy what's on it. If you shop online, use a debit card instead of a credit card. You'll have to pay close attention to your spending because you're limited by that account balance.  Habit number four is buying brand-name items when generic products work just as well.  People often spend more on brand names without noticing. Brand-name products can cost 20% to 30% more, even when generics work fine.   Look at the items you usually buy and see if the price difference is worth it. Many generic products, especially food products, contain the same ingredients. Do your research and choose what makes sense.  Habit number five is stocking up on too many things you don't need. The Internet is full of people showing off their hauls—candles, body scrubs, food, sneakers, clothes, and more. Many of us like to collect things, but there's a fine line between collecting and overbuying. Content creators, ads, and online messages often tempt us to buy things we think we'll use but don't really need. This can be wasteful, especially since some items, like cosmetics and beauty products, expire. If you stock too much, they may go bad before you get to use them.  Avoid this habit by sticking to a budget to help avoid overspending on things you don't need. If you're considering items that have a shelf life, be intentional to use up what you have before buying more.  Habit number six is paying unnoticed fees or subscriptions you don't need.  How many subscriptions do you have? Can you keep track of them all? Have any gone up in price in the last six months or year? If you don't keep track, you might end up paying more than you planned.  Avoid wasting money on fees and subscriptions by checking them regularly. Cancel the ones you don't use or downgrade the plan if necessary. When it comes to late fees, check your account history for any missed payments. Companies will charge a fee when a payment isn't made on time, so the best way to avoid these fees is to stay organized. Mark up a calendar or set alerts on your phone to stay on top of all payments and use auto pay tools to ensure the payment is made on time.  Wasteful habit number seven is paying high interest on loans. If you think you're paying too much interest each month, you might be right. Interest rates change over time, and your rate could be higher than necessary.  To avoid this, consider refinancing your loans to get a lower interest rate. This can lower your monthly payments and free up a little cash. Leaks rarely scream. They whisper — quietly racking up damage until it's too late.In today's Multifamily Operations Tip of the Day, Mike Brewer shines a light on one of the most overlooked threats to your asset's value: slow water leaks. They usually start as tiny usage anomalies. A slight uptick in flow. A bubbled bit of paint. Soft spots in the floor. By the time it shows up on a ceiling, it's already too late. But the game has changed. With sensor tech — the Internet of Things — paired with AI-powered monitoring, leaks don't stand a chance. These smart systems detect issues in real time, before a resident even spots a problem. This is especially critical in older buildings where undetected leaks can cause expensive structural damage.Still, the most powerful leak detection tool isn't tech — it's people.Eyes. Ears. Common sense.Train residents to speak up about strange noises, damp floors, running toilets, or dripping sinks. Combine that awareness with your tech stack, and you've built a true early warning system.Because early detection = asset preservation = long-term value. If this resonated, like this video, subscribe, and share your favorite leak prevention tactic in the comments.

In the year to the November before, the net migration loss of Kiwis reached almost 44,000. Infometrics chief executive Brad Olsen says most trends have plateaued. "Instead of seeing huge numbers of Kiwis that have continued to move out - yes, they're still high, but they're not continuing to increase." From the origin story and mash bill (75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley) to the five-to-seven-year age range and premium pricing, we unpack how this release positions itself for celebratory moments—and how it compares to other star-backed spirits.I share the full tasting journey, including why letting the bottle breathe transformed the experience. What if burnout isn't caused by doing too much, but by constantly leaking your energy in ways you don't even notice? In this episode of School of Impact, Jason sits down with energy expert and entrepreneur Spencer Jones to unpack the concept of energy sovereignty, it's about learning how to protect, restore, and intentionally direct your energy so you can thrive without burning out. This conversation blends mindset, nervous-system regulation, play, and personal responsibility into a powerful framework for living and leading at your highest level.   "Have fun. There's more fulfillment for me. The impact is greater when you are having fun. When you're doing that, people resonate with it more. It doesn't feel forced, uneasy, it's just it's natural, and something happens."- Spencer Jones   Hear more about: Burnout is often about being drained, not overworked: Many people feel exhausted because their energy is leaking through misalignment, toxic beliefs, or unhealthy environments and not because they're doing too much. Internal belief systems are the biggest energy vampires: Self-judgment, the need to prove worth, and guilt around rest drain more energy than external people or circumstances. Energy sovereignty starts with repairing leaks before adding more habits: Meditation, exercise, or motivation won't stick if underlying energy leaks aren't addressed first.  Alignment determines whether energy fuels or depletes you: Even "good" opportunities can be draining if they're not aligned with your values, nervous system, and authentic self.  Small shifts create sustainable energy gains: Tools like breathwork and quick "energy audits" help raise your energy incrementally without overwhelm.  Play, fun, and authenticity are performance multipliers: When people operate in flow, doing what feels natural and joyful, impact, creativity, and fulfillment increase dramatically.   Connect with Jason Meland: Email: jason@goliveonlinemastermind.com Website: https://www.growmyvisibility.com/ Instagram: @coachjasonmeland Facebook: Jason Meland - In Demand Coach LinkedIn: Jason Meland

Listen to this episode, and upgrade your quality of life in 2026. In this week's podcast, Emily dives deep into a concept she calls Energy ROI—Return on Investment. As we navigate the start of a new year, it’s common to feel pressured to do more, but Emily challenges us to look at our calendars and ask: "What is the cost of this entry versus the payoff?" Emily breaks down her "Four Quadrants of Effort" to help you identify where you are gaining momentum and where you are leaking energy. She also shares tactical tools like "Firing the Drain" and the "Power of the Floor" to help you move from decision fatigue into a state of strategic underperformance. By the end of this episode, you won't just have a to-do list; you'll have a "to-don't" list and a clear path to making this year one of actual growth, not just grinding. IN THIS EPISODE The Four Quadrants of Effort: A breakdown of the Sweet Spot (Low Effort/High Joy), The Investment (High Effort/High Joy), The Drain (High Effort/Low Joy), and The Ghost (Low Effort/Low Joy). The Health Halo Trap: Why we often mistake suffering for progress and how to identify "healthy" habits that are actually costing you more than they give back. Four Pointed Questions: Emily offers an audit for your performance wellness versus your actual wellness. The Power of the Floor: Defining the bare minimum you do on your hardest days to ensure you never fail or "end up in the red." The 70% Rule: Why giving 70% effort to mundane tasks allows you to save 100% for the things that truly matter. Eliminating Decision Fatigue: How establishing a consistent routine and planning ahead can preserve your finite energy for the big hurdles. Have you ever noticed that your energy is not consistent throughout the month? Some weeks you feel sharp, motivated, and on top of everything, and other weeks you feel exhausted, anxious, foggy, or completely wiped out. That is not random. That is hormones. In this episode, I walk you through how estrogen and progesterone impact your energy across your entire cycle and why understanding this changes everything. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it. I break down what a typical 28 day cycle looks like and what your hormones are supposed to be doing at each phase. What we cover in this episode: • Why estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest during your period and why testosterone is actually the dominant hormone at that time • How rising estrogen after your period fuels motivation, focus, productivity, and natural energy • Why ovulation is often your peak energy, creativity, and confidence window when hormones are balanced • What progesterone is supposed to do after ovulation and why it should feel calming, grounding, and supportive • Why needing more rest, calories, and recovery in the second half of your cycle is normal • How basal body temperature changes after ovulation and what that tells us about progesterone • The difference between your ovulation window and your fertile window • Why energy crashes, anxiety, irritability, or feeling wired but exhausted are signs something is off • What estrogen dominance and progesterone deficiency actually look like in real life • Why irregular cycles and unpredictable energy are not something you just have to live with I also explain the high hormone phase after ovulation and why this is the most important time to test hormones. This is when both estrogen and progesterone are present and your body has to process them properly. If you feel great one week and terrible the rest of the month, if PMS is intense, if ovulation feels painful or exhausting, or if your energy never feels predictable, those are all signs your hormones are not being produced or processed the way they should be. This is where hormone testing matters. Why I use DUTCH hormone testing: A DUTCH test allows us to see: • How much estrogen and progesterone you are actually producing • Whether you are ovulating and producing progesterone consistently • How your body is metabolizing and clearing hormones • Cortisol patterns that affect energy and burnout • Androgen levels, nutrient markers, and methylation Blood work can show hormone levels at a single moment, but it does not show functional patterns or how hormones are being used and cleared. DUTCH testing gives us the full picture. I share a real example of a woman who had done everything right. Clean eating, less caffeine, better sleep, no sugar, no alcohol, and still had terrible energy. Her DUTCH test showed exactly why her body could not make energy effectively. Once we saw the data, everything made sense. Numbers do not lie. Testing removes the guessing. Your energy should ebb and flow with your cycle, but it should still be manageable. Your hormones should not hold you back from living your life, working toward your goals, or feeling like yourself. If your hormones are interfering with your quality of life, it's time to test.  Get your hormone test: https://drbethwestie.com/dutch-hormone-testing/
