In this episode, Dr. Tony breaks down the Cell Danger Response, the research behind why a child's cells shut down energy production, and why that shutdown is actually the nervous system doing exactly what it's designed to do when it senses ongoing threat. He explains why supplements, red light therapy, and NAD+ can feed the cell the raw materials for energy, but none of it holds if the nervous system is still stuck broadcasting danger. You'll learn about the three stages of subluxation, why an upper cervical brainstem subluxation can send a global distress signal to every cell in the body, and why movement, the neurosensory motor system, and the exhausted cerebellum are quietly draining more energy than anything else. If you're dealing with constipation, bloating, brain fog, or you feel like every detox protocol makes you feel worse instead of better, this conversation is for you.  In this episode, I'm joined by Marina Ortega, founder of Scottsdale Hydrotherapy and co-founder of Trust Your Gut, to talk about one piece of healing she believes is often overlooked: supporting your body's drainage pathways before asking it to detox. Marina shares her own journey through chronic constipation, mold exposure, and years of searching for answers before becoming a gut health educator. We also discuss what colon hydrotherapy actually is, how the lymphatic system, bile flow, and bowel function work together to support the body's natural detox pathways, and why so many people struggle to feel better even after trying supplements and cleanses. Marina also shares what she learned while recovering from severe mold exposure, her perspective on tools like castor oil packs and coffee enemas, and why she believes the gut-brain connection is an essential part of lasting healing. Topics We Cover in This Episode:  Why Marina says drainage should come before any detox protocol What colon hydrotherapy actually involves—and what to expect during a session How constipation can impact hormones, brain fog, and overall health The connection between the lymphatic system, bile flow, and detoxification What Marina learned from recovering from severe mold exposure How castor oil packs and coffee enemas fit into her wellness approach Why stress and nervous system regulation can show up as digestive symptoms Simple ways to support your body's natural elimination pathways Resources & Links Trust Your Gut: https://www.trustyourgut.shop/  Order Dr. Cassie's Book ‘Fix Your Gut, Fix Your Hormones': https://guthormonefix.com/ Use code LISTEN10 for 10 % off your order on shopmodernendocrine.com

Drain tile setbacks on wetland easements help protect the small wetlands breeding ducks depend on by keeping underground drainage systems farther away. Reducing those setbacks could dry out more wetlands across the Prairie Pothole Region, leaving ducks with fewer places to pair, nest, and raise broods. The USFWS is seeking public input on potentially reducing these setbacks, a red alert for those who care about waterfowl. Ducks Unlimited's Scott Stephens and Mike Brasher join the show to break down why a seemingly technical drainage rule could ultimately mean fewer ducks in the fall flight and how duck hunter/conservationists can act now.>>>Thanks to our sponsors: Tom Beckbe, Sitka Gear, Waterfowl Management Academy, Create the X, Purina Pro Plan, Ducks Unlimited, Lile Real Estate, Perfect Limit Outdoors and Noah Perry. Send us Fan MailAll Rights Reserved. Feeling like you're working harder than ever… and getting less and less back? You're experienced. You're talented. You've invested in yourself. You've built something real. So why does your business suddenly feel heavier than it used to? In this episode, I name something I've been living for years without the language for it — a hidden pattern I call the Quiet Drain Of Compromise. It's the reason success can slowly turn exhausting when your business stops reflecting who you actually are, and how years of small, quiet compromises leak away your confidence, your creativity, your cashflow and your sense of purpose. Inside this episode: ✨ The four hidden leaks draining the bounty you were born to carry — starting with the Edited Voice, where you've absorbed your favourite mentors' language, and it's blocking your people from hearing you. ✨ The Niched-Down Self — how you ended up running your business on 5% of who you are, while the other 95% stays unshared. ✨ The Borrowed Playbook — why the popular platforms, post formats and content cadence may not be yours to run. ✨ The Peacekeeper's Compromise — every yes to a client you should have said no to, and what it's quietly cost you. If you've been questioning yourself, wondering why business feels harder than it should, or sensing you've outgrown the version of the business you built… this episode will show you why and how Human Design is the answer to finding what needs to come towards the light, for you to start transmitting your TRUTH. Because you don't need to compromise your true nature to succeed, you need to return to yourself.

Gerald Stratford is a gardener and a gentleman. Claire drove to the Cotswolds for this episode of 5 O Clock Apron Podcast. Knocking on Gerald's front door, Claire is quickly whisked through the house, past Elizabeth, Gerald's wife, and their dog, Bilbobaggins both sitting in the living room, on through the kitchen and out into Gerald's garden. And what a garden it is! Gerald's garden is immaculate and stuffed full to bursting with untold fruit and vegetables, the garden is a maze of walkways and paths, shooting off in all different directions to various raised beds, and to what Gerald's refers to as his giant growing cages, all shapes and sizes, because there are so many of these homemade structures. Marigolds dot the flowerbeds and pathways, “to keep the pests at bay, we are at one with nature you see Claire, we are part of it, we can't fight it, but the pests hate the smell of the marigolds, so it does help a bit!”   Gerald spends a lot of his time in his garden and has a gazebo set up, with a small induction hob on a table with a chopping board close by; “I thought we could cook in the garden, Claire?” Claire is very happy about this, and the pair dig potatoes and get cracking, cooking in the garden, the potatoes only just dug from the ground less that 10 minutes ago. “Can't get fresher than that, can you?” Claire says.    Gerald wants to make a potato salad that he's been eating for over 40 years; he was first shown how to make it by his German friend Rolph's mother for a fishing trip. Rolph is no longer with us, and Gerald dedicates this episode to his great friend, Rolph. It is a touching moment.   Gerald is a giant in the gardening world. Fashion designer Alexander McQueen even designed a limited-edition fleece jacket emblazoned with his favourite red cabbage for Gerald. Gerald is an icon and has graced the cover of US Vogue magazine. Whilst his speciality might be growing enormous vegetables, there is a tenderness in the way that Gerald gardens and his viewpoint on growing, that makes this giant a bit of a teddy bear, and a very special one at that. Gerald's Recipe serves 4 as a side dish 800g new potatoes 1 egg yolk, reserve the white for another use 150ml - 200ml olive oil (or use sunflower oil or mix of sunflower and olive oil) 1 tbsp dijon mustard salt and pepper, to taste 2 heaped tbsp Tims Greek Family yogurt splash of red wine, or cider vinegar gherkins, as many as you like sliced mortadella, as much as you like small bunch of parsley, finely chopped Wash the potatoes and put the potatoes in a saucepan and fill with cold water and a big pinch of salt. Boil the potatoes until tender. Drain and cool quickly, Geralds likes to put his potatoes in icy water to speed this up. Meanwhile add the egg yolk and dijon to a bowl and whisk, begin by adding the oil, drop by drop to begin with, then switching to a steady stream as you begin to add more oil. Continue adding the oil, taking care to not add the oil too quickly. Check the seasoning, adding salt and pepper to taste. Add the Greek yogurt and mix well, add the vinegar and you're good to go. Wrap the gherkins in the sliced mortadella and cut each in half if on the large side! Dress the potatoes with enough of the mayonnaise, reserve any excess in the fridge, it is fine for up to x3 days in fridge. Pile the potato salad onto a serving plate, add the mortadella wrapped gherkins, scatter over with the parsley, bit more freshly ground black pepper and serve. Learn more about your ad choices. Too often, coaches focus only on the five players in the game while the players on the bench sit, pout, whisper, or check out. In this episode, Coach breaks down how to build a bench culture that creates readiness, energy, ownership, and team-first habits. Players do not magically become ready when their name is called. They become ready because they have been engaged the whole time. The bench is not where players disappear. The bench is where readiness is built. 1) EyesBench players must watch with purpose. They should be watching: matchups who is tired how the opponent guards screens where rebounds are coming off what defense the team is in time, score, and fouls 2) EnergyBench players must add life to the team. That means: clapping for teammates standing on big plays celebrating charges bringing positive energy staying connected when they are not playing 3) EchoBench players must repeat the team standard. Examples: “Sprint back.” “Next play.” “Get a stop.” “Hit first.” “Talk early.” Your bench should echo your culture. Body language spreads fast. One player pouting can drain the bench. One player checked out can impact the group. One player with bad energy can make the team feel divided. Players can be frustrated.Players can want to play more. But they cannot take energy away from the team. Play 5-on-5, but let the bench earn points too. Plus One For: calling out a screen early celebrating a charge reminding a teammate of the standard knowing time, score, and fouls bringing energy after a mistake Minus One For: silence pouting not knowing the defense negative body language checking out Once the bench matters, players start owning it. Do not just tell players, “Be ready.” Tell them what ready means. Examples: “You are going in to defend.” “You are going in to rebound.” “You are going in to handle pressure.” “You are going in because we need talk.” “You are going in to bring energy.” Players need to understand how they impact winning. If you do not define a player's role, they will define it by minutes and shots. That can poison a team fast. Have role conversations early, clearly, and honestly. A winning role might be: “I get on the floor because I defend, rebound, talk, and bring energy.” That is not a small role. That is a championship role. There is no neutral bench The bench must be coached intentionally Body language is part of team culture Every player needs a job Role clarity prevents frustration Energy, engagement, and readiness must be practiced Championship teams do not have throwaway players This week: Give your bench three jobs: Eyes, Energy, Echo Score bench impact during scrimmage Praise positive bench behavior out loud Correct negative body language early Have one honest role conversation before frustration builds Your bench is where culture is tested. In February, when foul trouble hits, injuries happen, and momentum swings, you will need those players locked in. Coach the bench now. Eyes.Energy.Echo. Running your own business was supposed to feel like freedom. So why does it sometimes feel like the loneliest, most triggering relationship in your life? In this episode, I pull back the curtain on what actually happens in the nervous system of a self-employed woman, all the unprocessed parts that get stirred up the moment you put yourself out there, ask to get paid, or try to be seen. I unpack why connection isn't a "nice extra" but a basic regulatory need, why the masculine blueprint for building a business quietly burns women out, and why even the most "successful-looking" women eventually hit a wall that no pros-and-cons list can solve. This isn't a business strategy episode. It's a permission slip to listen to what's actually happening underneath the structures, the systems, and the 30-day plans, and to build something that can actually hold you.

Why am I so angry over little things, and why does it seem to come out of nowhere? If anger management has never actually worked for you, this video shows you the fear hiding underneath your anger and how to release it instead of suppressing it.Relationship and childhood trauma recovery specialist Kenny Weiss explains why you get so angry over small things, why deep breathing and counting to ten can make anger worse, and what repressed and suppressed anger are really hiding. It speaks to the high functioning adult whose rage seems to come out of nowhere, and to the suppressor who never raises their voice while their body quietly breaks down.Kenny teaches that anger is a secondary cover emotion sitting on top of fear, and the fear is always one of three, rejection, inadequacy, or powerlessness, what he calls the R.I.P. model. Beneath that fear is unfelt childhood sadness. He ties the pattern to the Worst Day Cycle™, shows why suppression drives rage into the body, and gives a release based path using the Emotional Authenticity Method™ and the Rage Letter, not management.Anger is a secondary emotion that covers one of three fears, rejection, inadequacy, or powerlessness, and beneath that fear is unfelt childhood sadness. Anger is a bodyguard standing in front of a far more vulnerable feeling.Anger management techniques like deep breathing and counting to ten can make anger worse because they suppress the feeling instead of releasing it. The pressure does not disappear, it is driven down into the body.Suppressed anger is linked to chronic illness. Dr. Vincent Felitti's research on adverse childhood experiences connects unprocessed rage and pain to migraines, autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, and weight that resists dieting.Kenny Weiss is a relationship, communication, and childhood trauma recovery specialist and the creator of the Worst Day Cycle™, the Authentic Self Cycle™, and the Emotional Authenticity Method™. Down the Democratic Drain: Justin Gest on How Migration Is Unintentionally Strengthening Authoritarianism Around the World

Keen On Democracy

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 26, 2026 34:55

“You cannot expect a society to open its doors if there is no way to close them. You cannot expect a society to open its gates if there is no gate to open.” — Justin Gest It's a counterintuitive and deliberately provocative argument. Rather than bolstering open societies, migration actually benefits authoritarianism. And it's the argument that Justin Gest makes in his new book, Democratic Drain: Global Migration and the Struggle for Democracy. Drawing on data from 149 countries, Gest shows that global migration has been inadvertently strengthening authoritarianism by stealing liberal democrats from the places that need them most. When liberals emigrate from authoritarian countries, Gest argues, they take their democratic values with them. As a consequence, fewer people dare to vote against the autocrat, fewer people protest, fewer people cling to liberal norms. The argument turns the normal discourse about migration on its head. Immigration is usually framed as a question about the countries experiencing migration. But Gest reframes it from the perspective of the countries losing people. So, for example, when Hungary's young liberal professionals move to Berlin or London, Orbán's job got easier. Or when Venezuela's middle class emigrated to Miami, Maduro's grip tightened. And, of course, when people leave America, it benefits Trump. That's the real bite in his polemic. Be patriotic, Justin Gest is telling American liberals. Stay home. Don't go down the democratic drain. Five Takeaways •       The Democratic Drain: Migration Is Strengthening Authoritarianism: Gest's central argument: when people emigrate from authoritarian countries, they are disproportionately people who hold liberal democratic values — people who would vote against the autocrat, protest in the streets, or organise civil society. He calls them “demmigrants.” When they leave, they leave behind a population that is, on average, more sympathetic to authoritarian governance. The result: Orbán's Hungary is easier to govern after Hungary's young liberals move to Berlin; Maduro's Venezuela tightens its grip as the middle class departs for Miami. Across 149 countries, the correlation is striking. •       White Working Class as Protest Voters, Not Authoritarians: Gest, whose earlier book The New Minority anticipated the Trump and Brexit era, pushes back on the characterisation of working-class voters as simply authoritarian. Many are protest voters: they want to see the system shaken, they see populists as the only candidates willing to speak truth about the system's failures, and they are willing to tolerate short-run damage to democratic institutions in the hope of building something better from the ashes. Immigration is the sine qua non of far-right populism: when immigrants are framed as an existential threat, voters make transactional short-run compromises to democratic integrity. They are not irrational. They are strategic. •       The Left Must Embrace Nationalism to Win the Immigration Argument: Gest's most provocative political prescription: the left has ceded nationalism to the right as if there is no nationalist case for immigration, no nationalist case for climate policy, no nationalist case for progressive values. This is, he says, inexcusable. The national interest served by carefully selected immigration is plain: immigrants make countries younger, fill labour shortages, innovate, create jobs. If the left can frame the immigration debate in terms of the national interest rather than moral obligation, the debate changes. He wrote a piece for the Washington Post on this in March 2022. •       Can You Be an Enlightened Anti-Immigrationist? The Internationalist Paradox: Andrew raises a sharp question: if democratic drain is real, then an internationalist who cares about democracy globally might logically oppose emigration from authoritarian countries, since it strengthens those authoritarian governments. Gest's response: possible, but foolish. You don't stop the drain by damming the river. You stop it by growing the democratic movement — by demonstrating the vitality and virtues of democracy and the perils of authoritarianism — so that there are more democrats to spare even after emigration. •       Three Fault Lines for the 21st Century: Gest maps three overlapping fault lines that will define the 21st century's politics. First: democrats vs authoritarians (the Wieliński argument, which Gest confirms and extends). Second: winners vs losers of globalisation (which often determines the first). Third — and Gest's own addition: those who understand their nation in civic terms vs those who understand it in ethno-religious terms. The civic imagination: a country grounded in ideas, institutions, interdependency, and a devotion to co-evolution together. The ethno-religious imagination: a country derived from static, unchanging ancestral roots. Whichever fault line you look at, he says, you end up at the same place. About the Guest Justin Gest is Professor and Director of the Public Policy Program at George Mason University's Schar School of Policy and Government. He is the author of Democratic Drain: Global Migration and the Struggle for Democracy (Cambridge University Press, May 2026), Majority Minority: Racialized Divisions in the New American Order (2022), The New Minority: White Working Class Politics in an Age of Immigration and Inequality (2016), and four other books. Subscribe to our YouTube channel On our political radar this week… In the first days of Donald Trump's Middle East War, he proclaimed that the only acceptable end was “unconditional surrender.” He didn't specify WHO needed to surrender. This week, we got the answer. Iran wins permanent control of the straits of Hormuz, keeps its nuclear program, and gets around a half-trillion-dollars in direct aid and unfrozen assets. Trump got a lobster dinner at Versailles. Americans got the bill for tens-of-billions of dollars for bombs, drones and downed aircraft … and 13 American families got the ultimate bad news about their loved ones in the military. © Clay Jones – https://claytoonz.substack.com Trump got elected by promising to Drain the Swamp. His many grifts have actually expanded the swamp for him, his family and his cronies. Now he's created a real-life swamp with his $14-million paint job of the Reflecting Pool … which has gone from American Flag Blue to an algae-filled puke green. It's the one American landmark that really should be named after him. Still on the subject of expensive vanity projects run amuck – when Trump announced his Ballroom Project, he said it would cost $200-million, paid completely through donations. That, like everything else under Trump, wasn't even close to the truth. The Washington Post reports the latest cost estimate from Clark Construction – winners of the no-bid construction contract – is $600-million (a 200 percent cost overrun) with half of that coming from taxpayers. The Post reports that Trump knew the real cost before he announced the project and promised the no-cost-for-taxpayers. Trump is also screwing up Michigan's economy a little more. A new analysis from the Lansing-based Anderson Economic Group says Trump’ s delay in opening the Gordie Howe International Bridge is costing $6-to-$7-million a week in direct costs to bridge operators and taxpayers, with even more potential costs to Michigan auto manufacturers.  The battle is entering the final stages in the Republican battle for the party's gubernatorial nomination with much of the candidates' efforts aimed at an audience of one. Will Donald Trump endorse? And if he does, will it matter?  State House Speaker Matt Hall is projecting another stalemate on a state budget, demanding Senate Democrats move some House-passed GOP bills before he will consider funding the state. It comes as state bean-counters report tax collections are running well ahead of projections. Total revenues are $370-million above initial estimates. An NFL team has become the latest proxy for the political wars. The Republicans who run Indiana have promised incentives of around $1-billion to move from Chicago to nearby Hammond, Indiana. Illinois has balked at the idea of taxpayer subsidies for the owners of the team that's worth an estimated $9-billion, and booked profits of $75-million in the last reported year. A billion for billionaires … it's the GOP mantra. A hundred and thirty-six pages. That is the length of the probate petition Nick Reiner just filed to force the release of over $1.5 million from the trust fund Rob and Michele Reiner created for their children. He wants the money for a high-powered defense attorney. He wants it for soap and socks. And he wants it before a conviction can trigger the one law designed to stop him.California's slayer statute says if you intentionally and feloniously kill someone, you do not inherit from them. Not a dollar. Not from the trust. Not from the estate. If Nick Reiner is convicted, the door slams shut. Everything goes to Jake and Romy. So what does Nick do? He files now. He demands the court compel immediate release. He calls the distributions “mandatory and unconditional.” He claims the trustee is using a “shifting series of excuses.” And his petition includes this line: “No use of his funds could be more important.” His legal team is arguing that the charges against him — the charges that he killed his own mother and father — are the reason to speed up the payout, not slow it down. Tony Brueski walks through the petition, the family's decision to cut Nick off, the legal framework that could block every cent, and the pattern of behavior that makes this filing the most predictable move Nick Reiner has ever made. His siblings already said no. The trustee already said no. This episode explains what happens when the only person who has never accepted a no tries to override everyone who has.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Meanwhile, SpaceX just made history today, debuting at a $1.75 TRILLION valuation in the largest IPO ever recorded (2.4x the previous record Saudi Aramco) with retail orders alone exceeding $70 billion.
