If you discovered Formula 1 because of Drive to Survive, we're the podcast for you. Ryan is a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, and never thought of car racing besides the Tollway--until Netflix stepped in. Sara loves football and got REALLY into it early in her and Ryan's relationship. Likewise, watching Drive to Survive got her interested in the insane money and even crazier storylines. They review races, explain how this crazy "sport" works, and all sorts of other things relating to Formula 1. But just like the races themselves, there's no re-dos--the podcast goes up as it was recorded.
So, that race...happened. Not a lot to say about the race, but more to say about the FIA and decision making (again). @thatsp1podcast on twitter thatsp1podcast@gmail.com
Snip Snap! Snip Snap! That's what it's like for both Michael Scott's reproductive system and Fernando Alonso's podium. Ryan and Sara are joined by Martin to talk Saudi Arabia, Aston Martin conspiracy theories, and MUCH more.
We're talking Bahrain, and wonder who is struggling more: Mercedes or Ferrari? We also talk about why Red Bull's 1-2 doesn't mean a boring season, and take a listener question about an ideal driver pairing. Twitter: @thatsp1podcast email: thatsp1podcast@gmail.com
Pre. It's been a bit, but we're back. Talking about 2023 and a little about Bahrain. Let's go!
We talk about the sprint, quali, and...well, we all know. "That".
SPECIAL EPISODE! @projectf1 on Twitter is one of our favorite accounts to follow (the only data account Sara likes), and Ekagra Gupta was nice enough to record with us to talk about Brazil GP race pace. Go follow him for this weekend and the rest, because you'll actually learn something instead of look like that Claire Danes math meme.
What's the best track on the F1 calendar, and why is it COTA?
It's been a minute! And literally forever, if like us, you've never seen a live race in Singapore. This episode is even looser than normal, with no structure. Was this a good race? Was it meh? Was Perez in the wrong? Spoiler: nope.
Just like the last laps took forever under Safety Car, this episode took forever to post.
It's been a long summer break, and we're excited to have racing to talk about--but there's some rust to shake off. We talk about: Is the RB 18 performance more the car or Max's driving? Will LEC win a championship? And more!
Stop us if you've heard this episode before, but Ferrari screwed up their strategy. Mamma Mia! Ferrari show again how they're the Dallas Cowboys of F1. Only person having a worse post-Hungary week than Binotto is Otmar. We try to figure out the driver market for 2023. *Special Announcement in case of meaningless races at end of season*
Yeah, another late one. Sara gives legal advice. Would Ferrari been able to pass Red Bull? What will we do without Seb? AND Nikita Mazepin makes a return!
No, this isn't a back-to-back, this is the episode for the one and only Austrian Grand Prix...just a week late. What do we talk about? At this point, who remembers? Cars that go fast (and Carlos Sainz's car too).
It's basically Quali for the Austrian GP, but whatevs. We're talking about the British Grand Prix.
Well, that race was...something, wasn't it? Late podcast because of travel, but something to listen to in the off-week.
In order to finish first, first you have to Ferrari...or something like that. In this episode we tweet while drinking wine, fix the FIA rules on porpoising, and decide if *this* time the championship is over. Monaco! It's the race everyone talks about (how boring it is). Keep Calm and Call Checo. Join our Grid Rival Fantasy F1 League: https://gridrival.app/join/GCZSJP?_branch_match_id=1060307624393934375 email: thatsp1podcast@gmail.com Twitter: @thatsp1podcast
"Welcome to Miami, bienvenidos a Miami." as the great man once said. This week we talk about the track (boats? boats!), whether they should change the track for next year, and were the expensive seats worth it. Also: Should Ferrari be worried about Red Bull's development? Did an old man sneak into the F1TV booth? Is there a difference between "British Horsepower" and "Horsepower"? This special edition episode is in your podcast feed because Mike Sirois from 1310 The Ticket in Dallas went to Imola (sort of) for the Grand Prix and was kind enough to come on and share his first-hand experience. In this episode: Mike talks about an old-school track experience and how it compares to COTA in Texas Are the Tifosi crazy? What it's like trying to keep track of the race in person At least Ticketmaster is in a language we understand Ryan tries to play it cool Follow Sirois at @MikeSirois and listen to him on The Ticket weekdays 10a-12p producing the Norm and D Invasion, and Saturdays 12p-2p. We aren't going to use the full name of this Grand Prix because it'd take too long to say or type. It took place in Imola, and it was wet...and exciting? In addtion to the race: Did Red Bull put everyone on alert for the rest of the season? Is Sainz done? And, they're doing WHAT for the Miami GP? @thatsp1podcast on Twitter thatsp1podcast@gmail.com
That race wasn't horrible, but we're not sure it was worth the pot of coffee it took to stay up and watch it live, either. We talk about: Which driver the media might be turning on What was the fluid coming out of the Red Bull Which driver/team stock are we buying/selling/holding for the future? email: thatsp1podcast@gmail.com twitter: @thatsp1podcast
That was a boring race...until it wasn't. Checo gets hosed by luck, but we get more confirmation that these 2022 cars can race each other. All the way down to a fantastic last-meter finish. We gripe about Safety Car luck, TV direction, graphics on the screen, and pick who we'd bet $100 to win the championship. @thatsp1podcast thatsp1podcast@gmail.com
WHAT IS HAPPENING?! Ferrari is fast? The Red Bulls are assembled like Ikea furniture? The quick white car is a...HAAS?! The Bahrain Grand Prix was a hell of a season opener. We had sparks. Some teams' strategy earned them points, and others were "like putting your hand in a toilet". We unpack Ferrari's success, Red Bull's multitude of failures, and what this podium means for Mercedes' title hopes. @thatsp1podcast thatsp1podcast@gmail.com thatsp1podcast.com
If you've caught up on Drive to Survive and are pumped to start watching one of your first Grand Prix, this is the episode for you. It has everything you need to know (and Netflix doesn't tell you) to enjoy the race. After listening, you won't have to pause the race and ask "what does that mean?" or Google "why are they going slow on the first lap?" Why do pitstops matter? What are they talking about on the radio? WTF is an undercut? All this and more (not as much as what Ryan wanted, though) are talked about in this episode.
We pull out of season 1 of DTS and right into season 2. We have boats, rockstars and wankers...and a new energy drink challenger? email the show: thatsp1podcast@gmail.com Tweet us: @thatsp1podcast thatsp1podcast.com
Sara and Ryan continue the reviews of the OG Drive to Survive. Looking at the differences and shocking similarities of Force India and McLaren. Wondering if Gunter is a good leader. Should Alfa Romeo become the F1 scout team? We probably said we hated your favorite episode, so defend it or ask questions: email: thatsp1podcast@gmail.com Twitter: @thatsp1podcast
The show that started it all...in America. Drive to Survive is what got us into Formula 1, and we're talking about every episode. In this pod about first four episodes: We laugh that apparently there was a year Haas wasn't garbage. Practice? You talking about practice? Christian Horner thinks he's Bond...but really he's the Bond villain. Pettiness in this sport is so much better than all the American sports combined. @thatsp1podcast on Twitter thatsp1podcast@gmail.com
Words don't do that season finale justice...but our voices will.
Well...that happened. Many drivers, media, people, etc. were concerned about how a GP would work on a street track where 80% of the lap is at full throttle. We found the answer quickly: not well. Ryan and Sara discuss the red flags, accidents, Max's offs, and yeah, THAT accident. Did Max break check Lewis? Can Mercedes start inflating the big balloon floats for their parade? Is Max a dirty driver? thatsp1podcast@gmail.com @thatsp1podcast on Twitter
The Qatar Grand Prix...happened. But neither Sara nor Ryan thought it was actually exciting. They discuss the penalty Max got in quali, the four or five things that happened in the race. As well as: Is Red Bull screwing Checo over? Do they have parade routes in England? Will the driver who most deserves the championship win it? Send your emails to: thatsp1podcast@gmail.com Find us on Twitter @thatsp1podcast
We continue to throw out everything we think we know. The Red Bull stronghold in South America just got torched to the ground by Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. Sara and Ryan talk about how this happened, why Hamilton's two penalties didn't affect him, what "Interlagos" means in English...and Ryan starts mapping out Mercedes' parade route.
Do NOT call it the Mexico GP. Apparently the FIA wants to go with city names, but it doesn't matter--this was the Checo GP. Sara and Ryan talk all things Checo, Checo's dad, why altitude matters, and if Mercedes can do anything to stop the bleeding.
Ryan and Sara talk about the first GP on this side of the Atlantic in two years--and Ryan's first GP in person ever. Were the crowds as big as it looked? Worth going to a GP in person? How did Max pull that off on a "Mercedes track"?
"That" race. "That" incident. Who's to blame? What happens now? Sara and Ryan delve into that and so much more on the second episode.
"That's P1!", the phrase every driver wants to hear at the end of a race...and it's also the name of our podcast. Ryan and Sara talk about the Dutch Grand Prix, who screwed up their race, and who has the brightest future the rest of this season and beyond. Email the pod at thatsp1podcast@gmail.com.
