Despite ceding the lead to McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris at the end of lap one, Red Bull-Honda's Max Verstappen brilliantly won the Pirelli Italian GP at Monza, beating both McLaren drivers down into the minor placings. For their part, McLaren introduced more controversial team orders to enable Lando Norris to finish second ahead of Oscar Piastri. Charles Leclerc drove the skin off his Ferrari to finish fourth ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Sir Lewis Hamilton, who started with a five-place grid penalty after a yellow flag infringement at Zandvoort. Peter in this podcast analyses the Italian GP weekend from the start of the action on Friday through to the chequered flag on Sunday, explaining where Max found an advantage over Lando and Oscar in qualifying and how he parlayed that on Sunday into one of the best wins of the season. With thanks to Jetcraft, the world's largest buyer and seller of executive jets:https://jetcraft.comTo OEM Exclusive, the passionate suppliers of OEM upgrades for exotic and high-performance vehiclesTo TrackNinja, a lap-timer and data app designed to help users improve their on-track car and driver performance through analysis and an innovative Data Garage. Sharing is caring at team Papya, but is this the right way to go racing? Fans are divided and heads are being scratched, are McLaren digging themselves a hole they cannot climb out? Antonelli had the riot act read to him by Toto as the young gun is now all but treading water? Is it time to take a step down and learn his craft? And it was an almost moment for Charles, the agro is out for us all to see and it seems to do the trick. But, it's too little to late, on to 2026. All the plus much much more on this week's episode of BTRL.

McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella, L'Equipe's Fred Ferret and Brazilian journalist Julianne Cerasoli join Tom Clarkson in the F1 paddock to dissect all the big talking points from the Italian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen produced a Monza masterclass, taking his third win of the season and Red Bull's first victory under new Team Principal Laurent Mekies. How has Max's approach changed under Mekies? And what does Laurent's reaction to this result tell us about his leadership style? McLaren had an awkward ending to their race. Monza brought speed, strategy… and a whole lot of controversy. While the race itself cooled off after the opening 15 laps, the drama was just heating up—especially with McLaren's late-race team orders. Should they have swapped drivers? We break down the call, share our take, and debate what it means moving forward. We also dive into:
Send us a textIn this interview with @peterwindsor we discuss Max Verstappen's dominant victory at the Italian GP and Peter Windsor explains what Verstappen does that separates him from the other drivers. @peterwindsor explains why Lando Norris was out of order calling Max Verstappen and idiot for their Turn 1 incident and what Verstappen is doing to put Red Bull's RB21 on pole and we discuss whether Red Bull was right to order Verstappen to give the first place back to Lando Norris after their turn 1 incident. @peterwindsor explains why McLaren is seen as snowflake F1 but were right to invert the positions after Lando Norris's poor pitstop. We discuss Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton's poor form and @peterwindsor explains why Toto Wolfff was wrong for signing Kimi Antonelli in the first place and are Yuki Tsunoda's days numbered after Max Verstappen nearly lapped his team mate at the Italian GP?
Oh no. Not again. ANOTHER McLaren maladie at Monza?Climb the ladder with me over on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsMax Verstappen was unstoppable...and whilst McLaren took a double podium, the day will be remembered for controversy instead of conslidation with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris ONCE AGAIN tangled up in team orders. Ferrari found quiet progress at their home race, Charles Leclerc's electric start helping them tighten their grip on P2 in the championship. Meanwhile, standouts like Alex Albon and Gabriel Bortoleto pulled off impressive drives to shake up the midfield with Isack Hadjar turning a pit-lane start into the last point at the F1 Italian Grand Prix.Who else won, lost or just were plain meh?The 2025 F1 Italian GP WINNERS & LOSERShttps://youtu.be/4y0qyC7XrSY

Did McLaren do the right thing? No, not for Oscar Piastri alone, but even for Formula 1? How much is too much when it comes to being "fair" in their intra-team battle? Will McLaren "engineer" a DNF for Piastri to make things fair after Lando Norris' DNF from Zandvoort? What if McLaren's stop for Norris was 15s slow? How would they have handled the "papaya rules" and driver swap? Bring Back V10s makes its regular detour into F1's V8 era to look back on Sebastian Vettel's sensational first grand prix victory in the 2008 Italian Grand Prix.Glenn Freeman is joined by Jonathan Noble and Karun Chandhok (who was racing in GP2 that weekend at Monza) to reflect on how Vettel was able to take such a commanding victory for Red Bull's second team Toro Rosso, only three years on from it racing as Minardi! We look back on why McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen offered no threat despite starting from the front row, and how the other McLaren of Lewis Hamilton was more of a victory contender despite starting 15th on the grid. Also on the agenda: Robert Kubica's conflict with his BMW team over his fading title hopes, Kimi Raikkonen signing a contract extension that he wouldn't see out with Ferrari, Fernando Alonso's floating role in the driver market, Adrian Newey's wisdom on F1's overtaking debate, and Williams's Sam Michael making an incredibly accurate prediction about how the 2009 season would play out under F1's incoming rule changes. We then dive into the fallout from Vettel's win for Toro Rosso, including the role it played in the political battle over customer cars in F1, and how it heaped pressure and embarrassment onto Red Bull Racing.Want MORE BBV10s?
