After another completely unplanned three-month sabbatical, Season 7 of The Monkey Seat returns. Funnily enough, George Russell wins and we're back recording. We're not saying there's a conspiracy... but we've never podcasted after a Sergio Perez win. This week, the boys review the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix, where George Russell finally gets Mercedes back on the top step. But was he actually the quickest Silver Arrow? With Kimi Antonelli looking rapid all weekend, the future at Mercedes might already be knocking on the garage door.Elsewhere, Ferrari once again mastered qualifying... before apparently forgetting the race was on, while Red Bull looked properly competitive again, giving the front of the field a very different look from recent rounds. The discussion also turns to the TV coverage, with an abundance of cinematic drone shots making the race look more like an Oscar-winning nature documentary than a Formula 1 broadcast. And speaking of ignoring directions, Arvid Lindblad decides team orders are more of a suggestion than a rule, giving the lads plenty to chew over.As always, expect Driver of the Day debates, Dick of the Day nominations, questionable opinions, unnecessary tangents, and two hosts who are far more confident than they are qualified.Looking for serious Formula 1 analysis? Head over to Grid Talk. But if you'd rather spend an hour listening to two mates argue about racing, broadcasting, and whether team orders are actually optional, you've found your podium.Catch Tom and Karl in their slightly more professional guise on the Grid Talk Podcast @gridtalkuk on all socials.Check out f1chronicle.com for motorsport articles written by people who know what they're talking about, and visit linktr.ee/gridtalkuk for everything Grid Talk.If you enjoy the chaos, we'd really appreciate a quick 5-star rating on Spotify. It genuinely helps more people discover the podcast and keeps this gloriously inconsistent operation rolling into Season 7.Find The Monkey Seat on Spotify, Apple Music, Pocket Casts, YouTube, Anchor, Castbox, Radio Public, TuneIn and Breaker — or simply ignore your engineer's instructions and we'll find you anyway.Bio
Tom Clarkson is joined in the Red Bull Ring paddock by F1TV experts James Hinchcliffe and Alex Brundle to analyse the Austrian Grand Prix.George Russell got back to winning ways for the first time since the season-opener in Australia. He retakes second place in the championship standings, reducing the gap to leader Kimi Antonelli to 40 points. How did George overcome the threat of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull? What does this win mean for his title challenge? And how impressive was his racing IQ to take pole position? On the other side of the garage, Kimi Antonelli overcame a tricky start and brake issues to finish third. But with George taking 28 points out of his lead over the last two races, how will Kimi be feeling about his own title hopes?Verstappen secured his best result of the season with P2, so why was he back in contention at the front and does this mean he'll be consistently competitive going forward?Plus, the guys discuss a frustrating race for Ferrari after winning last time out in Barcelona and whether pressure is building on McLaren having also been off the pace in Spielberg. This episode is sponsored by: IM8: Give your body what it deserves with IM8! George Russell may have converted his controversial pole into an Austrian win but it was his Mercedes team-mate, Kimi Antonelli, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who lit up the skies above Spielberg. Max, after pushing George hard in the second half of the race, drove brilliantly into P2; and Kimi, who finished third, closed quickly on both George and Max in the closing laps. It was a stunning day for Red Bull, with Isack Hadjar finishing sixth in the other RB22 and the two Racing Bulls - also powered by the RBPT Ford engine - taking the last two points positions. Ferrari disappointed after starting P2-P3, with Sir Lewis Hamilton finishing P5 and Charles Leclerc P8; and McLaren-Mercedes could manage only a P4-P7 result. We got the third hour started with Mr Mikes Kind of Easy Trivia. It was then time for Three Questions Too Many presented by Park Mazda. Some great questions today. Joaquin Gage was the final guest on today's show. We started by recapping his weekend and he told us where he was for Eustáquio's historic goal. We then changed gears to discuss some F1 talk as the Austrian GP just wrapped up and we finished with his thoughts on all the latest news. We finished the show like we always do with The Wrap from William Huff.

The focus in this livestream is on the upcoming Austrian GP but - as ever - there were plenty of distractions along the way...like our first question of the day - from Jim Hontz: "Name your top three drivers from each of the decades, starting from 1950..." Needless to say, Peter didn't run the full gamut of those times - but the tone, at least, was set. Anyway, this podcast is crammed with great questions and comments from the viewers/listeners - and Peter's opening monologue includes a tribute to Guy Edwards, who, in Peter's opinion, remains the greatest procurer of sponsorship in the history of our sport. Guy was also a fast racing driver and a funny, imaginative and very brave man - one of the three men, indeed, who were responsible for saving the life of Niki Lauda. With thanks to Jetcraft, the world's largest buyer and seller of executive jets:https://jetcraft.comTo TrackNinja, a lap-timer and data app designed to help users improve their on-track car and driver performance through analysis and an innovative Data Garage.
