Why did so many other riders who had the chance to match Zarco's strategy choose not to?Did the new rules prompted by Marquez's dash off the Austin grid work on their first appearance and was this actually a great race (Matt thinks so and Val sort of agrees) or a rubbish and processional non-spectacle? (Simon thinks so).Want more MotoGP podcast content? Sign up to our motorbike-only Riders tier on Patreon for our 2015 revisited series, ad-free listening and more. Dre Harrison, Richard Asher and Oriol Puigdemont host an emergency edition of Tank Slappers off the back of one of the biggest bombshell MotoGP stories of 2025 so far. The majority of the show is taken up with the breaking news that Jorge Martin met with Aprilia discreetly during the French GP weekend at Le Mans and told the team that he intends to leave at the end of the season via a performance clause that was in his contract that gave him an option to leave after six races if Martin wasn't placed high enough in the Championship. Oriol breaks down how this story came about, the logic behind Martin activating the clause in his contract, where Martin may intend to move to as a result if he fully commits to leaving, and what this means for Aprilia going forward if their news talismanic rider wants to leave despite just one GP weekend with the team so far. There's also a short review of the French GP itself, as Johann Zarco become the first premier class home winner of the race since 1954, as well as why it was a huge weekend for Marc Marquez in the Championship fight, and Pecco Bagnaia's latest explanations for his struggles after leaving the weekend without a single point.

It's amazing. We thought MotoGP was the regular series that had the most potential problems heading into 2024 and it's delivered new ownership, three classic races in a row, and a likeable new set of regulations. Who'd have thought? Jorge Martin held his nerve in an incredibly intense French GP in front of 120,000 rabid home fans, as Marc Marquez took some revenge on Francesco Bagnaia after beating him with a stunning final lap divebomb. Martin after another perfect Sprint/Win double, now has a 38-point lead in the standings. But will it be enough for him to claim the Factory Ducati seat over Marquez or current resident Enea Bastianini? We also talk about the the new regulations and there's some big changes planned. Ride-height and holeshot devices banned? Fairings reduced in width and shorter from the front. Fuel reduced to 20 litres from 22. Rear aero now included in homologation. And engine displacement reduced from 1000cc to 850. But will it work? And will there be after-effects? All that and more on another loaded Motorsport101!

MotoGP 2024's 'big three' Jorge Martin, Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez produced an absolutely epic French Grand Prix weekend at Le Mans between them. But which of them looks most like the 2024 champion, and are two of them set to be 2025 team-mates? Simon Patterson, Valentin Khorounzhiy and Matt Beer delve into both elements of that situation in The Race MotoGP Podcast, assessing what Le Mans told us about the trio's various strengths in the title fight and the varied scenarios around who Ducati will place where in 2025. The future of championship leader Martin's Pramac team is another key element of that jigsaw that's discussed. KTM's enormous reliance on Pedro Acosta, the prospect of Acosta and Martin as team-mates and Aprilia's place in both the title fight and the rider market are also delved into. Plus Simon gives his take on the incredible French GP crowd experience and how their heroes Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco tackled coming to their home race on uncompetitive bikes. In the week leading up to the Emilia-Romanga Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, the racing world blessed us with the famous Month of May, widely regarded as the greatest month of the year for world motor racing. This weekend had fans booked with the 6HRs of Spa in WEC, Rally de Portugal in the WRC as well as the French GP in MotoGP. Along with our coverage and takes on those three events, there was still news to be heard around the F1 paddock. A deep dive onto the penalty points system was due after last week's Miami GP along with Leclerc apparently having no water from the formation lap, the Miami GP setting US watch records and RB Powertrains taking hundreds of employees from the Mercedes HPP engine program. To finish off, the changes to Imola were discussed for the upcoming race, all the racing events for May were outlined and Leclerc's long time race engineer Xavi Marcos is being reshuffled elsewhere at Ferrari. Many continuous weeks of fruitful racing are on the horizon and we intend to talk about it all here when we see you next, On The Gravel.

Which driver has raised their game after ‘staring into the abyss'? Tom Clarkson's joined by 1996 French GP winner and F1 World Champion Damon Hill, fresh (or maybe not) from taking on one of the Tour de France's toughest climbs. Former Ferrari race-winner Gerhard Berger joins the team to give his take on Max Verstappen vs Charles Leclerc, pick the star performers of the season so far and to look ahead to the 2022 French Grand Prix.
