Mercedes has never won "three in a row" in this era of Formula 1. Can they claim this stat by winning the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix? Based on the 2024 British Grand Prix, Mercedes is one the fastest teams in Formula 1, if not the fastest. But of course, they won the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix only because Max Verstappen-Lando Norris had a fallout on track (and George Russell was 15 seconds behind the lead pair). Of all the current teams, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton have the best stats for the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix in the last decade! Hungaroring was built to mimic the circuit of Monaco, and it isn't surprising that the technical requirements (high downforce!) have labelled this circuit just outside of Budapest as "Monaco without the walls". Will Red Bull Racing be troubled at the Hungaroring as they were in Monaco? Will McLaren be as quick - as they've been everywhere, and will this be the race they finally start delivering "perfect" races, and what about Ferrari? The team that won in Monaco; will they be back in the fight at "Monaco without the walls"? The drivers silly season might see some announcements - Esteban Ocon to Haas to be finally confirmed? As for the others, all eyes on Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez - the two big movers in the market. Yes, Perez has a signed contract for the next two season (2025 and 2026), but given his current form and struggles to resurrect, one wonders if Red Bull Racing will take up their option on the "performance clause" that is often rumoured. Tune in! (Season 2024, Episode 35) Follow our hosts on Twitter: Soumil Arora, @f1statsguru and Kunal Shah Image courtesy: Mercedes

Round 11 of the Formula One World Championship took us to the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix. It was a pretty routine weekend, with track limits stealing the show as they typically do in the Styrian hills, along with a fight for the win between the classic pair of Norris and Verstappen that hit its first boiling point this season. With just a handful of laps to go, an over aggressive defense from Max caused contact, punctures, and the front running pair to slide down the order, allowing George Russell to swoop through and take only his second career win. Elsewhere around the paddock, the FIA's super license rules have officially changed, Aston Martin has hired further Ferrari staff, and Austria improved its AI track limits detection system. Stroll and Gasly extended with their respective teams, Helmut Marko has hinted that Ricciardo's end and Lawson's return may be here very soon, and the Jos Verstappen/Christian Horner dumpster fire took another funny turn this weekend. Moto GP, Rally Poland, and Formula 2 rounded out our coverage for a fantastic week out On The Gravel. See you next week for Silverstone!

They go over yet another bad performance from Fernando Alonso (43:31) and another sad and forgettable race from Leclerc (46:33). Just when it looked like Max Verstappen had a comfortable win at Red Bull's home track in Spielberg, a poor final stop and a questionable tyre choice opened the door for another Lando Norris chase. Only this time, the two-drivers collided at the Turn 3 hairpin, with George Russell picking up the pieces for a shock win! Joining Bryn Lucas is Alex Kalinauckas and Filip Cleeren as they breakdown the actions that led to the clash, the questionable racecraft as both Norris and Verstappen battled for the win, and ponder whether McLaren team boss Andrea Stella was right to question whether their fight was a product of the stewards. Also, the trio discuss another missed opportunity of a weekend for Ferrari, whether the new implementations of track limits worked despite a controversial penalty for Oscar Piastri in qualifying, and the best weekend of the year so far for Haas as they scored a dozen points to solidify seventh in the standings. Round 11 of the 2024 Formula 1 Season is here! But how's it going to play out? Let's talk about it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Matt Baker is joined by Natalie Pinkham and Harry Benjamin to discuss what they learnt from an intriguing Spanish Grand Prix. They question whether McLaren are now the fastest team in F1 in 2024 after another impressive showing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.They also discuss Mercedes' upturn in form as Lewis Hamilton secured his first podium of the season. They finish by looking ahead to the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend and discuss whether Max Verstappen's record at the track will give him an advantage over Lando Norris.
Round 10 of the Formula One World Championship brought us to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix. It was a superb Saturday for Lando Norris, taking a second career pole position, but it wasn't to be on the Sunday for the Brit. A stellar drive from Max Verstappen halted any chance of a win for Lando running an alternate tire strategy to fight back in the closing moments. Elsewhere around the paddock, Alpine is potentially debating becoming an engine customer, Domenicali is posing the idea to add more sprint races, and Adrian Newey set an outlandish salary request for Aston Martin. On top of this, F1 ticket prices are starting to become a real issue, VCARB brought a huge upgrade package to Barcelona, and a breakdown of the Mercedes email scandal took place. Outside of F1, a bit of time was spent going over the WEC calendar released last week and why the series officials are right in their hesitation to expand the calendar. Two more rounds to go in the triple header, we will see you back On The Gravel for the Austrian Grand Prix next week!
