learn more about coaching at briandixon.com/coaching Question asked by guest: Patty has two books out and she wants to build a bridge between the excitement she has over her books and how to help people actually buy her book. She wants to do more speaking and coaching as a result of her book topics (how to slow down as mothers and how to parent teens). She wants to be more known and have a greater group of people she is reaching. Right now her writing is a hobby and she mostly wants her books to bless others. Patty is working on some videos and wonders if it is better to do Youtube videos or Facebook live. Brian's answer: People buy things they want, not what they need. So what is the want behind the need? How do we find what someone will actually pay for? Does Patty have an email list? Youtube is basically a video library and is specific. Facebook live videos are meant for connection. Brian's main points: If people have a compelling reason to join a newsletter right away, they will sign up immediately, it doesn't have to be a slow growth. Is Patty getting paid aside from selling the book (speaking, coaching, etc)? How are people finding out about her? She has all the ingredients for an incredible meal, she just needs the right recipe. People can trust her because she has great word of mouth growth. She has social proof because of speaking engagements. She has an audience who needs her help because her audience is all mothers. However, a book that teaches things people already know and may feel guilty about, reading the book means they have to work. *For example, they have to work at slowing down and not feel guilty about it. So for Patty, she needs people to meet her and trust her and feel the personal connection. This would lead to more coaching and book sales. When three or more people ask the same question, make a product to answer that question. Facebook live videos are very powerful and help people to not feel alone. Moms of teenagers would want parenting tips with Patty on a Facebook live once a week. Maybe she could do themes each week and Q&A live formats. Mention in each one that she can be available for coaching for more personal questions. Now she has become a “friend,” Facebook groups can then use her videos so she should join those groups and provide value for a week or two, encourage members through posting and answering their questions. Then she could send messages to the admins and offer free videos or a free Facebook live within the group. She should start with broad groups and then look for niches, for parents looking for certain things (religious denominations, geographic locations, activities, etc).

Guest's Name: Betsi Hill from https://betsiworld.com/ How do you get clarity and know that what you want to do is the right thing and then how do you amplify it out to your right audience? Access the show notes at https://briandixon.com/clarity09/ Learn more about Brian's coaching at https://briandixon.com/coaching (Betsi wants to help those people in the 20 to 65 range that don't think that they have enough ability to enjoy freedom - just have to have a plan. They are semi nomads and says that if they can do it, anyone else can) Brian's answer: I love that, well the name of the book, Start with your people. Same answer. Tell me about your people. Who do you feel like you're here to serve? Who is somebody that you feel like you can make a difference for? Need to narrow down the audience. Think of a target on a bull's eye. If you take that dart and throw it, you might not hit the bull's eye, you might not get the 50 points, but maybe you'll get the 20 or 30 points. But if you have no dart board at all, you'll never get any points. You have this 40 year span of people you want to serve. I would really focus in on one person. Perhaps it is someone who is 40 years old and not enjoying their job, has freelance writing skills, etc. and she started googling. That's where she meets Betsi Brian's main points:Hone in on the avator. Betsi mentioned Amplify, but for Brian Amplify is actually an acronym - Audience, Message, and Product. Have to start with your audience. Imagine that this person just turned 40 which is a milestone birthday and it get her thinking about what and where she wants to be in her life. Be very specific about who she is….where does she work, etc. It might be someone you know or a combination of people. Once you're clear on her, then you get to know what questions she is asking. Your content is just answering her questions. If you're not writing for a specific person, then you're just writing randomly or for yourself. This is totally fine. We all have hobbies like throwing a baseball that you don't need to have a coach, but if you want to make a living from it, you have to have a professional mindset. You have to decide it is not for you, but instead for your reader. Send an email to your list to ask what people are struggling with. Subject line - One question for you. Real short email, hey it's Betsi. Where are you struggling the most right now? Hit reply and let me know. You could also quantify it, life direction or location freedom. Brian recommends keeping it open if this is the first time it is sent. The email subscribers when they reply are telling you 2 things - 1. Where they are stuck and 2. How they see you. People will only tell you about their problems if they feel you can help them with a solution or you can empathize with them. You can also do something similar on your facebook page, but it would need more clarity since they're not on your email list. I'm working on my blog or revamping my website - what would you love to learn. People may write you asking about what type of RV or how do I make money on the road, etc. What is obvious to you is magic to other people. They've paid attention to you. Make a list of all the questions from email and facebook. Put it all together for a good plan.

How do you find the time to work on your blog and serve your audience? That's the question we cover in today's clarity session. #07 How to find time to work on your blog- The Clarity Sessions Get show notes at briandixon.com/clarity07 Today I speak with Allison from https://www.shedreamsofalpine.com/ about how your create the time to put into your blog, even if you are working a full time job.
#06 The Clarity Sessions - How to start your blog Get show notes at briandixon.com/clarity06 Guest's Name:Zeena Regis Question asked by guest: Zeena is a grief counselor and hospice chaplain who wants to know how to start a faith-based community where the members can connect with one another and share resources about end of life care and about how to handle grief. A blog, podcast and/or web portal where people can share best practices on what has worked for them. Brian's answer: Create great content and get to know your audience and as you get to know your audience you will find an opportunity which will become your product. Brian suggested three exercises. Create a narrative. A person Anne(an is your ideal reader/community member), wants to support her friend whose mother has passed away. Write a narrative of “Anne” from the point when Anne heard that her friend's mom is sick until 2 years after her friend's mom passes. Describe how Anne, in an ideal world according to your expertise, assisted her friend so that her friend felt supported. Begin with the end in mind. Develop a framework. You'll notice benchmarks and milestones along Anne's journey which becomes the framework. The good thing about having a framework is that you can identify the stage a person is at and then identify the stage you need to get them to. E.g. If you determine that they are at Stage 3 then your job is to get them to Stage 4. Develop a list of questions about how to get a person from one stage to the next. Look at each milestone and brainstorm a list of questions that people might have about how to get from one stage to the next. E.g. a person overheard about something going on with a family member but does not know the best way to bring up the topic. That person might ask “What should I do?”, “Should I text or call?”. Write down all of the questions they might have. Brian's main points: Create a narrative and discover your audience Develop a framework. The message is your framework. It describes the steps needed to assist a person at a particular stage of grief. The product is the result of “Anne” asking “But how do I...?”. It is the message packaged in a form that can be consumed such as a membership site or an online course, speaking engagements or a book.
