Thanks to our Partner, NAPA Autotech TrainingIn this episode, Matt Fanslow dives into listener-submitted questions, covering a wide range of automotive diagnostic and repair topics. From personal influences in the industry to technical advice on exhaust gas analyzers, catalytic converter testing, and ADAS calibrations, Matt shares his insights and expertise.1. Who Do You Try to Emulate?Matt reflects on the mentors and industry leaders who have shaped his approach to diagnostics and repair.TV Doctors vs. Real Mentors: While he jokes about emulating fictional doctors like Hawkeye Pierce, Gregory House, and Perry Cox, Matt credits real-world experts like John Thornton, Randy Burkholder, Jim Kemper, Matthew Ragsdale, Harvey Chan, and John Riegel for their influence. The Value of Deep Research: Matt highlights the importance of studying SAE documents, technical manuals, and foundational books like Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals by John B. Heywood.Thought Leaders in the Industry: He also mentions Jim Wilson (ScanShare.io), Scott Manna, and others for their diagnostic methodologies and problem-solving approaches.Takeaway: Success in automotive diagnostics comes from continuous learning, leveraging industry resources, and adopting best practices from experienced professionals.2. Exhaust Gas Analyzers – What to Look For?A listener asks about choosing the right exhaust gas analyzer for their shop. Matt breaks down the key features:PC/Android Interface: Essential for graphing gas readings (lambda, air-fuel ratio) over time.Portability: Needed for on-road testing to monitor performance under real driving conditions.Fast Sample Times: Look for analyzers with low transfer delays (under 5 seconds) for accurate real-time data.Cost Consideration: Expect to invest 5,000–5,000–7,000+ for a quality unit. Takeaway: A good exhaust gas analyzer should provide real-time data logging, lambda calculations, and portability for effective diagnostics.3. Testing Catalytic Converters – Temperature vs. PCM DiagnosticsA student questions the validity of using infrared thermometers to test catalytic converters after hearing conflicting advice.PCM Algorithms Are Superior: Modern vehicles use complex oxygen storage calculations—far more accurate than manual temperature checks. Why Temperature Testing Falls Short:A "bad" cat might still pass a temp test.A "good" cat might fail due to external factors (exhaust leaks, sensor issues).Best Practice: Trust OBD-II diagnostics, fuel control verification, and factory procedures over manual methods.Takeaway: Always verify fuel control, exhaust integrity, and PCM data before condemning a catalytic converter.4. ADAS Calibrations – Troubleshooting Static Windshield Camera IssuesA technician struggles with static calibrations for windshield-mounted cameras. Matt offers troubleshooting tips:Check the Windshield Glass: Aftermarket glass is a common culprit for calibration failures.Lighting Conditions:Too much LED glare? Try diffusers or dimming shop lights.Use shipping blankets to reduce reflections on the hood/dash.Target Placement: Ensure the target is positioned per OEM specs—avoid background interference.RTFM (Read the Factory Manual): Always follow OEM procedures for target setup.Takeaway: Calibration issues often stem from glass quality, lighting, or incorrect target alignment—double-check these factors first.Listener Q&A Submission: Have a question for Matt? Brothers, imagine a life where your strength as a man hinges on one thing: how you love your wife. Day 5 of our St. Joseph Lenten series on The Manly Catholic dives into his title, "Spouse of the Mother of God," and it's a reality check for every husband and priest out there. This isn't just a nod to Joseph's marriage to Mary, it's a blueprint for us to build unshakable families and parishes. We're digging into St. Joseph's example today. Before he was Jesus' earthly father, he was Mary's husband, leading her with a love so deep it didn't need words, just action. He protected her purity, stood by her through Bethlehem and Egypt, and guided their home in faith. Too many of us pour energy into jobs, hobbies, even kids, while our wives get leftovers. That's backwards. A rock-solid marriage is the bedrock of fatherhood. Priests, you're not off the hook—your spousal love for the Church mirrors this, birthing your role as spiritual fathers. Joseph led Mary and Jesus in holiness; we've got to do the same.Your challenge: Love Your Spouse Today. Ask yourself, “How am I laying down my life for her?” Take one concrete step—head to a church or adoration chapel for 15 minutes and pray for your wife (or the Church, priests). Ask her, “How can I pray for you?” and then follow through. Optimized for men searching for marriage advice or vocational strength, this episode cuts through the noise with actionable steps. Lent's just starting; share this with a brother who needs it. Drop us a line at themanlycatholic.gmail.com with your feedback or prayer requests. My recent conversation with epic mountain climber Jenn Drummond, and my recent time with all my children has me again focused on the life I've emulated to others. I have much in my life I'm proud of, but I've also spent many, many years just grinding things out. I chose to have seven kids and adopt two more. Most people respond to that with respect and as if I've done something valiant. Maybe I have, maybe I haven't. But what my kids have seen as a result is a parent that is really busy. I went through a long period of life where I didn't play. I didn't do leisure. I didn't “hang out.” I was productive. One, it was how I fed my self image. Two, it was fairly necessary with up to nine kids at home. I never asked myself what I was modeling for my kids. I ask myself that now, and like Jenn, I've altered my life accordingly. Let's talk about it. Find Jenn Drummond at the Seek Your Next Summit podcast and check out her new book, Break Proof: 7 Strategies To Build Resilience and Achieve Your Life Goals. Welcome to Episode 249 of Lucretius Today. This is a podcast dedicated to the poet Lucretius, who wrote "On The Nature of Things," the most complete presentation of Epicurean philosophy left to us from the ancient world. Each week we walk you through the Epicurean texts, and we discuss how Epicurean philosophy can apply to you today. If you find the Epicurean worldview attractive, we invite you to join us in the study of Epicurus at EpicureanFriends.com, where we have a thread to discuss this and all of our podcast episodes. Today we are continuing to review Cicero's "On the Nature of The Gods," which began with the Epicurean spokesman Velleius defending the Epicurean point of view. This week will continue as Cotta, the Academic Skeptic, continues to insist that gods are supernatural and not at all similar to humans. We will, in turn, respond to Cotta's particular and general arguments. Today's Text XXXVII. “They have nothing to do,” your teacher says. Epicurus truly, like indolent boys, thinks nothing preferable to idleness; yet those very boys, when they have a holiday, entertain themselves in some sportive exercise. But we are to suppose the Deity in such an inactive state that if he should move we may justly fear he would be no longer happy. This doctrine divests the Gods of motion and operation; besides, it encourages men to be lazy, as they are by this taught to believe that the least labor is incompatible even with divine felicity. But let it be as you would have it, that the Deity is in the form and image of a man. Where is his abode? Where is his habitation? Where is the place where he is to be found? What is his course of life? And what is it that constitutes the happiness which you assert that he enjoys? For it seems necessary that a being who is to be happy must use and enjoy what belongs to him. And with regard to place, even those natures which are inanimate have each their proper stations assigned to them: so that the earth is the lowest; then water is next above the earth; the air is above the water; and fire has the highest situation of all allotted to it. Some creatures inhabit the earth, some the water, and some, of an amphibious nature, live in both. There are some, also, which are thought to be born in fire, and which often appear fluttering in burning furnaces.

In this episode, we're diving into the spark within you—the feeling that something needs to change in your life. Everyone's journey is unique, and just because those around you may seem comfortable doesn't mean that you should settle. Your discomfort is a sign that you're meant for something different, and it's important to listen to that inner calling. Even if others don't see your vision, it doesn't mean that it's not valid or that you shouldn't pursue it. Life is about finding your own frequency, aligning with what feels right for you, and understanding that your experiences are meant to lead you to a higher state of being. Not everyone is destined to follow the same path, and that's okay. Your journey is yours alone, and you don't need to seek validation from others. When you feel out of sync with your current environment, it's because your energy is not matching the frequency around you. Everything in life operates at a certain frequency, and when you're in a space with people who uplift you, it feels good. Conversely, when someone with a different vibe enters the room, it can change the atmosphere entirely. To find your path, it's essential to go within. By leveling up internally, you'll start to see the world differently, and opportunities will present themselves. If you're striving for something like financial success, start by studying those who have achieved it. Emulate their habits and mindset, but always reflect on whether it aligns with your values and desires. Reflection is crucial to ensure you're not just projecting your inner turmoil onto the world, but genuinely evolving. Discomfort is a powerful teacher. When you face challenges, ask yourself if they're uncomfortable because they're difficult or because they're not aligned with who you want to become. By continually reflecting on this, you'll grow within and new paths will open up. As you raise your frequency, you'll begin to see things differently—literally and figuratively. Opportunities that were always there will become visible to you. Keep reflecting, analyzing, and aligning with your true self, because your path is within. The discomfort you're feeling is a gift from the universe, urging you to wake up and grow. This message will persist until you heed it, because the universe believes in you and knows your potential. Even the things you love can hold you back if they're keeping you from becoming your highest self. Detaching from what's comfortable, even when it's hard, allows you to soar and reach your true potential. Your energy is meant to rise, and by letting go of what's holding you down, you can elevate to new heights. This is how we rise up and become the rising tide that lifts all ships. - Henry ---- Social Media Say hi on TikTok Say Hi on Instagram ---- Email Me henry@vibeabundant.com ---- Email List --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/positive-mindset-podcast/support
We watch the Olympics because it inspires us. Watching people give it their all just touches us at a soul level. Being brought to the very limit of our ability and pulling through is a deep, human experience. Some of us have experienced this from a voluntary activity like sports. Some of you have experienced it from trauma and being victimized. Now, not everyone dreams of being on the podium. Of aspiring to repeat an exercise routine a billion times so you can perform it live in front of thousands. That is not really the point. It's the internal experience, and it's one we can all experience. Drive with me a moment Got a comment or question about an episode? Want to ask a question about your drive? Email me. In this episode, we're exploring how to create the life you desire, whether it's wealth, happiness, or excitement. We often view our surroundings—people, places, things—as static entities, but they're reflections of our perceptions. Everything is frequency. Have you noticed how some people seem perpetually lucky or others constantly struggle? It's all about the patterns and frequencies they align with. Consider starting a new job without any prior experience. It's confusing and stressful, but for someone seasoned, it's effortless. The difference lies in their perception, shaped by experience. This concept applies to every aspect of life. We all have inherent frequencies, just like talents. Some people might naturally excel in certain areas, but anyone can change their frequency to match their desires. Your perception is your reception. The more you focus on something, the more it manifests in your life. Negative thoughts can spiral into more negativity, while a positive outlook can uplift your experience. Controlling your perception is crucial, but it takes time to see changes. This delay protects us from instant negativity but also requires patience for positive shifts. Our goal is to achieve a state of being—becoming a positive, healthy, or wealthy person. Research people who embody the qualities you aspire to have. Observe their habits, routines, and thought processes. Emulate these patterns, and your experience will start to mirror theirs. You have the power to change. Instead of blaming external circumstances, recognize that your mindset shapes your reality. Your life's hardships are opportunities for growth. Embrace challenges as chances to solidify your positive traits. When you maintain peace amidst chaos or joy in adversity, you truly become those qualities. Your external world will eventually align with your internal state. This process is about becoming a creator, not just a reflector of your surroundings. Keep your future self alive daily, and you'll become the rising tide that lifts all ships. - Henry ---- Social Media Say hi on TikTok Say Hi on Instagram ---- Email Me henry@vibeabundant.com ---- Email List --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/positive-mindset-podcast/support
