Send us a textThe search for qualified HVAC talent has contractors desperate for innovative solutions. In this eye-opening conversation, Crystal welcomes Flavia De La Fuente, founder of Field Pay, who's pioneering a revolutionary approach to compensation that's transforming how service businesses recruit, retain, and motivate their teams.Flavia reveals how today's workforce expectations have fundamentally shifted thanks to the gig economy. When 30% of young adults already earn from side hustles with instant payouts, the traditional two-week pay cycle feels increasingly outdated. This disconnect creates a massive opportunity for contractors willing to embrace new compensation models. The magic of instant pay lies in its psychological impact. Research shows that merely having access to immediate payment options creates an effect equivalent to a 19% wage increase—without actually increasing base compensation. By connecting desired behaviors (weekend shifts, emergency calls, successful sales) with instant financial rewards, contractors can drive productivity while giving employees greater financial control."The marshmallow test shows us that people value choice in when they receive rewards," Flavia explains. "Instant pay is like saying: you accomplished something valuable, here's your reward, use it whenever you want." This approach transforms how technicians view challenging shifts from obligations to opportunities.Perhaps most compelling is how instant pay revolutionizes recruitment. By attaching immediate bonuses to referral milestones—when candidates apply, interview, get hired, and reach retention anniversaries—contractors effectively turn their entire team into an engaged recruiting force. This creates a powerful cycle where team members actively help maintain the quality culture they value. For contractors facing labor shortages and increasing wage demands, Field Pay offers a strategic approach to compensation that aligns business objectives with employee motivation. Those who adapt faster with smarter pay systems will gain significant advantages in building capacity, delivering exceptional customer experiences, and fostering stronger company cultures.Ready to transform how you motivate your team?

Last fall, I met Francesco Galgani and tried his wines and I was completely blown away. I always think of Vernaccia as a more historical Pinot Grigio -- light on flavor, boring, and not anything to get excited about. But then I visited Cappella Sant'Andrea. HOLY CRAP!! This is the BEST Vernaccia on earth. Francesco and Flavia, the owners and winemakers, are truly the Masters of Vernaccia di San Gimignano. You will never taste Vernaccia like this.    In the show Francesco and I discuss the long history of Vernaccia, wine in San Gimignano, why there is so much crappy Vernaccia, and how they do it right. Their Rialto and Prima Luce, especially are stunning. I can't sing their praises more.   Two things mentioned in the show:  Follow Francesco on IG, he's a brilliant artist: @francescogalgani If you want to order directly from Francesco, and have the wine shipped from Italy, please visit their website: https://www.cappellasantandrea.it/chi-siamo1 and you can contact them for orders and pricing!      Full show notes and all back episodes are on Patreon. Join the community today! www.patreon.com/winefornormalpeople _______________________________________________________________   This show is brought to you by my exclusive sponsor, Wine Access – THE place to discover your next favorite bottle. The concept of time has been a subject of intense debate and profound intrigue almost from the beginning of… well, recorded time. Is time a human invention to keep us on track? That's the logical take. But what if time was truly a mystical force, protected by the gods and powering all that is good and beautiful in our world?Flavia Brunetti explores that wonderful possibility—and raises a dreadful scenario—in her debut fantasy novel, THE WEB OF TIME (Blue House Literary; May 20, 2025). Unfolding in Rome, Tunis, and Tripoli, this imaginative, lyrical work follows several characters—some mortal, some not—whose lives and fates intertwine in often startling, consequential ways. They all (like everyone everywhere) depend on the Web of Time, which has been spinning quietly since the dawn of creation, keeping the universe from slipping into chaos and sustaining three Great Portals: Kindness, Art, and Language. Threads from this web naturally rearrange themselves as humans change their minds, fall in love, suffer losses, make great discoveries and terrible mistakes, build empires and cause them to fall. Even when portals close from the world, the web continues keeping time, marking history. Until the unthinkable happens. Time doesn't just stand still—it starts erasing itself, and pieces of history begin vanishing.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
