Send us a textIt's the Super Bowl episode!  Pastor Matt's beloved Philadelphia Eagles carry the hopes of the nation on their backs as they try to wrestle the Super Bowl from the grip of the Kansas City Chiefs.  Matt's pick is a bold one, while the rest of the gang see the same outcome but a closer score.On top of that, Troy is opposed to texture enhancing food additives while Lilly gives a spirited defense of lettuce.  The hosts also drew some lines around what animals they would stop to rescue from danger, revealing that Chu is really not a cat person.

On this week's episode, talk of driving pet peeves becomes a bit confessional, many odds are not in our favor, we're all feeling lucky to only have ten fingers and toes, it's a bad week for ducks and nuts, Chu and Abbey's predictions came true, Matt's and Troy's didn't, and Lilly's was a huge academic letdown

We're kicking off season 5--our World Jellyfish Day gift to you!  On this episode, we welcome Abbey, teacher of middle school civics and new hoster of podcasts, Bracketeering resumes as we narrow down the college mascot competition to the sweet 16 (which was bad news for Matt's long-shot favorite, the Stanford Tree) we see who was paying attention to Pastor Matt's sermon this week, and we discover who is the most interesting host of the podcast.  Spoiler alert--it's Lilly.

This week on the DeRP, Iowa heads to Ohio, the host crew tries to distinguish between real and fake floods, turns out Charles Shultz can't stand Peanuts, Lilly borders on the verge of being a not-niceist, Matt is disturbingly good at spewing nonsense, "Hey Jude" is the number one overall pick in the first ever Beatles' song draft, and Mackenzie Hyslop of the "Mini Mics with Mac" podcast on TikTok joins the team, dropping the bomb that Matt has been enthusiastically saying her family's name wrong for more than two years.  

In this week's episode, the crew reacted to the first round of voting in the College Mascot Bracketeering Challenge (The Tree Lives!), and then things took a turn for the Biblical.  What was meant to be a brief sample of what the lunchtime Gen Z College and Early Career group would be like on Sundays became a deep theological dive for the rest of the podcast.  Come on in and dive along with us! 

This week the host crew takes a guess at which fake part of the fake Titanic was recently purchased for more money than any real part of the real Titanic ever was, Lilly makes sandwiches, Troy and Chu prove that they know very, very little about women, the crew reflects on how "newsworthy" Kate Middleton's photoshop skills should be, and Pastor Matt saves Handel's Messiah. 

This week on the DeRP a new host joins the party, and if you listen closely you might be able to tell whether or not he's in a band.  On top of that, Ioanna endorses Troy rocking a mullet, the crew discusses heckling refs and how to maximize your team's homefield advantage, six unlucky college mascots get snubbed from the tournament field of the next Bracketeering challenge, Lilly goes bananas, the Florida Man Games get a shout out, and the hosts give their thoughts on which well-known candies have successfully made the transition to jelly bean, and which should have stayed in their lane.

This week on the DeRP, Lilly forgets what day it is, Troy and Ioanna go on a double date to Target, "Florida Men" continue to lead the world in embarrassing news headlines, a German sculpture gives birth to a stupid American, the host crew prepares for Ash Wednesday next week by discussing what they could give up and what they couldn't, and then they agree to let each other choose what they'll give up or take on for the 40 days of Lent.

This week the DeRP crew debates the pros and cons of pushing a man off a bridge, identifies the behaviors of the chivalrous gentleman, and just generally enjoys a heaping dollop of discussion by four of our usual rawgabbit blatherskite hosts while Troy was off wankling his guitar somewhere.

This week on the DeRP there's a pop quiz from Matt on what life was like a quarter century ago, a genius Allied strategy from World War 2 with some highly questionable questionable ethics, the long and distinguished line of groups and individuals who have not solved the Israeli-Palestinian conflict grows by one podcast, the pros and cons of "de-extincting" some species wiped out by hunting or by Charles Darwin, America gets stolen by four British guys, and the host crew decides some real competitions shouldn't exist, and some fake ones should.  Let the games of the Diaper Olympiad begin.  

The DeRP crew laments Elf's shocking blowout loss in the Bracketeering Final to A Christmas Story, Pastor Matt bets the other hosts that their parents will all have the exact word-for-word answer when asked what is in a Big Mac, it turns out that Troy isn't nearly the devoted fan of Chipotle that we thought, Lilly doesn't want to know how boats float, the crew ponders living a life of luxury at sea, there's an intervention to make Ioanna come to terms with her own excellence, Lilly changes her mind and now does want to know how boats float, and in case you couldn't tell by the 50 times he mentions it, Chu has a girlfriend.  

The DeRP discusses discrimination, the ethics of making a fortune off of a $3.99 Goodwill purchase, which of the hosts should make Shohei Othani money, and more--including an epic existential, extraterrestrial, theological rabbit hole that Pastor Matt hopes none of his seminary professors will hear. 

The Grinch takes on Buddy the Elf, the hosts give their thoughts on some creative shenanigans pulled by some elves on the shelves, and it turns out that none of us have been hit by enough meteors yet to have a shot at winning the Powerball lottery.

The DeRP crew overcomes a dramatic Christmas Movie Bracketeering first-round shocker to cover such diverse topics as life in the little town of Bethlehem in the Heritage parking lot, Buddy the Elf, college rejections, God's will, songs that we can't leave unfinished, Christmas music rules, the height of Matt's new Darth Vader, and their thoughts on the best smells in the world.

The Disney Princesses crown their Bracketeering champion; Matt's best Connect Card ever; the Mount Rushmore of ice cream flavors; how medieval babies had it rough; what was going on a trillion seconds ago; the hosts' thoughts on being in debt; how everything DOES NOT happen for a reason; and the hosts debate whether a space in the next Bracketeering challenge (Christmas movies!) should be saved for a certain Bruce Willis film set at a Christmas party inside Nakatomi Plaza.  

The DeRP crew ponders the Disney Princess Bracketeering challenge as the field is narrowed down to two, the dramatic story of trying to replace Quasimodo, a villainous new Mount Rushmore, how big is a billion, the need for subtitles, a sneak preview of the next Bracketeering challenge subject, and some training on how to be saved by the bell when you find yourself in a tight spot. 

The DeRP gang will only go so far to rescue a dropped phone, turns out the hosts actually listen to Matt's sermons, the Bracketeering Final Four has only one Mount Rushmore Disney Princess, Snapchat is the 12th most popular social media app--thus justifying Matt's Snap Score of 8, and it's not Thanksgiving cranberry sauce without a good opening "shlurp."

Disney Princesses battle it out to get through to round two, the Magic Kingdom has a new app that creates a different kind of magic, secret service agents are bitten by the First Dog, DRP hosts are outraged at Halloween candies left out of the top ten, and when Lilly heads to the ER on Sunday morning and can't sing in church, it's a DeRP mom who swoops in to save the day, because DeRP moms are legends.

This week we put Lilly and Iowa's NFL knowledge to the test with the easiest NFL trivia contest ever, decide whether being a Democrat or Republican would be the less bad option if Jesus was heading to the polls, discover some bad blood between the north and south poles, and learn that the hamster is neither the spirit animal nor the emotional support animal of Spirit Airlines, and celebrated the return of "Bracketeering" from it's Disney Princess hiatus.

The DRP gang discusses sermon head fakes, NFL MVP Taylor Swift, career opportunities as a guard of expensive cave cheese, the world's first (and last) payphone app, and being defeated by a Capri Sun. 

The DeRP gang is back to help Pastor Matt learn Snapchat, recap Ioanna's day ruling the world, debate a big induction into the Toy Hall of Fame, decide on what is "tipworthy," and to admire someone who was "named" a new Guinness World Record holder.

The host gang welcomes new hosts Troy and Josie to the mix, and we cover all the topics you care about: hurricane pythons,  far flung flamingoes, an unusual number of vomiting stories, things that are and are not in the Bible, Ioanna's first time being in charge on a Sunday at Heritage UMC this coming weekend, and Chu's feet.

New host Lilly Barr joins the crew as we cover a new take on the WWJD bracelet, roommate dealbreakers, and which host would be the last one to be reported missing by friends or family if abducted by space aliens.

This is the audio of a sermon Matt preached at Heritage UMC Clearwater on January 8th, 2023, about six weeks before the #asburyrevival Asbury Revival began.  As news of the revival reached us, we couldn't help but recall the "word for the year" God had laid on Matt's soul as he prepared for this first sermon of the new year.
