Using the six strings of a guitar as his framework, Church walked graduates through faith as the foundational low E string, family as the A string, their life partner as the D string at the heart of the instrument, ambition and resilience on the G string, community on the B string — where he urged graduates to put down roots, volunteer, and build the thing their community needs even if the internet never sees it — and individual greatness on the high E string, the thinnest string most easily bent by outside pressure. We connect the timeline directly to Common Core — the untested, nationally imposed educational standards pushed by the Gates Foundation and adopted by 46 states by 2013 — that confused children, baffled parents who could no longer help with math homework, and produced exactly the results you'd expect from conducting a nationwide experiment on children with no prior testing. And we note that Louisiana — which abandoned Common Core's methodology and adopted the Science of Reading — now leads the nation in educational improvement. We also cover the DOJ's settlement with PayPal over their $530 million Economic Opportunity Fund — a 2020 program that tied eligibility explicitly to race and national origin in violation of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. We make the case that you cannot achieve fairness by creating an unfair system, and that civil rights laws were designed to stop discrimination — not rebrand it. We also dig into Senator Tommy Tuberville's proposal to establish English as the official language of American schools — and make the case that a shared language is not about race, it's about unity, assimilation, and the Tower of Babel. For our Bright Spot, a Marine veteran with a concealed carry permit in Massachusetts was already going car to car helping people escape and exchanging fire with an active shooter on Memorial Drive in Cambridge before police arrived. The shooter — who had previously been given half the recommended prison sentence for shooting at cops in 2020 — was stopped before anyone was killed. Nobody's covering this story. We are. Our education is in decline. Lawmakers and other education leaders are lying about the use of Common Core curriculae. In fact, some of them intentionally want our schools and students to fail. That's what Charles Tuttle, a candidate for Superintendent of Public Schools, had to say on this episode of Plain Talk. "We've got a a major decline in our educational system. The direction hasn't changed," he claimed. "I think it's intentional," he continued, going on to say that he thinks "we've got a some that said when common core came in that they were going to dumb our kids down." Somewhat paradoxically, Tuttle said that school districts are spending too much money, but also that the state isn't investing enough. "We have the money. The state is not poor when it comes to money," he said. "So there should be no reason why we cannot fund every school in North Dakota. It says right in the constitution, the legislative assembly shall provide for a uniform system of free public schools throughout the state." He pointed to the school lunch debt that some schools carry as an example of something that should be the state's responsibility. So does that mean he supports a ballot measure that will likely appear on the November ballot to have the state cover the costs of school meals? Not necessarily. "The problem I have with that...is it goes in the constitution," he said, noting that the measure would be an amendment to the state constituiton and not statute. E. Ray Moore is founder and president of the Board of Exodus Mandate, a project of Frontline Ministries which focuses on prayer, revival and Christian Education. He is a retired Army Reserve Chaplain retiring as Lt. Colonel in 1999 and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Gulf War I. He is author of the book, Let my Children Go. He has also co-authored with his wife, The Promise of Jonadab: Building a Christian Family Legacy in a Time of Cultural Decline. He is also one of the executive producers of the 2011 award-winning film, IndoctriNation: Public Schools and the Decline of Christianity in America and executive producer of Escaping Common Core: Setting Our Children Free. Scripture gives fathers the mandate to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. This includes the education of children, with many parents choosing to home educate. The result is that home schooling is growing in significant fashion. Secular forces are noticing and push-back is taking place as school districts, and even state legislatures, are increasingly viewing parents in an adversarial way, wanting them out of the education process. Connecticut House Bill 5468 is one such example. It would require registration with the local school district, mandate curriculum aligned with state standards and maintaining detailed student portfolios documenting academic progress. Other related points discussed include: What happened to "Common Core"? Is it dead? How can the church get engaged with the effort to help home schooling? Should a Christian run for a public school board position or not? What are the four main reasons why people home school their children?

On this week's episode of The Learning Curve, co-hosts Alisha Searcy of the Center for Strong Public Schools and Mary Tamer of MassPotential speak with Dr. Richard Phelps, the author of Pioneer Institute's recent paper, Post-MCAS Assessments and Accountability in Massachusetts, to unpack the past, present, and future of K-12 accountability in the Commonwealth. Looking back at the 1993 Massachusetts Education Reform Act (MERA), Dr. Phelps explores how rigorous academic standards and the original MCAS testing system helped propel Massachusetts to the top of national and international rankings in reading, math, and science. Phelps explains how Massachusetts' 2010 adoption of Common Core national standards and the shift away from the original MCAS framework led to a dramatic decline in academic performance on NAEP after 2011. Shifting to today, Dr. Phelps discusses the implications of the 2024 ballot initiative that eliminated MCAS as a high school graduation requirement. He outlines the major takeaways from Post-MCAS Assessments and Accountability in Massachusetts, including recommendations for statewide end-of-course exams, as well as the weaknesses of portfolio assessments. He underscores why strong, independent academic oversight is essential in a post-MCAS landscape. He advocates reinstating an independent Office of Educational Quality and Accountability to deliver transparent, data-driven evaluations of school districts and ensure Massachusetts maintains high academic expectations for all students.

    Slam The Gavel welcomes Senator Tammy Nichols from Idaho to the podcast. Senator Nichols (district 10) is a mother to five children. When she and other parents noticed an issue with Common Core in the school districts. That is when she started speaking to Representatives and Legislature, working with other organizations, then decided she should run for office. She also noticed a disconnect between the people and government. "People are supposed to be part of the process," states Senator Nichols.   Senator Nichols talked about the task force in Idaho regarding family court. She was hearing from parents who were telling their stories and experiences in family court. These were professional parents; veterans, nurses, (parents with no criminal records) with egregious family court stories. More people started reaching out.      We discussed their mind-blowing testimonies and the patterns that are affecting the process. Also, how a parent will spend years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to get their child back.      This was started as Arizona had started a task force as well. Idaho followed suit. This is a national issue that is taking place. Utah did a re-vamp on child custody issues last year. There are very concerning issues regarding the courts such as no oversight. Alex Newman! In this interview, he takes us to school on how the United Nations, its agency UNESCO, and its so-called World Court are driving world government and collectivism down each and every one of our throats. He documents how socialism, communism, and collectivism in general are being imposed through brainwashing our children so they cannot think for themselves.   It's a war against individual rights, individualism, individual freedom, and God. When people talk of human rights, they have no intention of enforcing the rights of individuals to choose what's good for them with their own individual heart and mind. They never even dare mention the U.S. Declaration of Independence, which states:   We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…   In the collectivist model of thinking, the Declaration of Independence is considered invalid. There is no God to grant us any individual rights, and in no way do we possess certain unalienable personal rights, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Instead, in their twisted speech and thinking, there are collective “human rights,” which are to be determined and defined by them—the global predators who are forever exploiting, diminishing, and even killing us.   The collectivist assault on America and humanity during COVID-19 was coordinated by Bill Gates, acting in part through the UN and its health agency, the WHO. We document this, along with Gates' actual Master Plan, in our book, Covid-19 and the Global Predators: We Are the Prey.   In this interview, we further discuss the collectivist brainwashing of our children that has followed a similar pattern starting long before Covid, which has already made us into a dangerously docile nation, vulnerable to such an assault on our individual rights. It again involves Bill Gates and again involves him working with the UN, acting through its education agency, UNESCO. One of their most destructive accomplishments has been imposing the Common Core educational curriculum on every American state. It's a scheme to replace education for independence with behavioral modification to enforce non-thinking conformity.   In this brilliant presentation by our guest, Alex Newman, the two of us collaborate with him to describe how global predators have been turning America into a collectivist state. Until Donald Trump entered the picture, they were transforming us from the beacons of freedom into victims accepting enslavement.   We also very strongly recommend this show if you want to learn more about the latest of what I call politicopathy imposed on us by politicopaths, especially working through the United Nations.   I haven't liked talking about the global predators as psychopaths or sociopaths, because they are so much more grandiose and destructive than most of those miscreants, and also because I don't want ever to use any psychiatric diagnoses, all of which are used to disempower people. But I thought I'd try out politicopaths—powerful megalomaniacal rulers of as many human beings as they can dominate and exploit, enslave, or slaughter.   There have been some notable successes for the Trump administration recently, including rejecting the WHO's new “international regulations” aimed at dominating the world and announcing plans to withdraw from UNESCO. But there are some notable failures in the Trump administration dealing with “politicopaths”, including the drug companies that make neurotoxic psychiatric drugs and deadly vaccines. The easiest decision Donald Trump will have to make during his second term is whether or not to shut down the staggeringly inept Department of Education. This experiment in scrambling kids' brains has gone on for nearly half a century, and the results are overwhelmingly catastrophic, even by government standards. The teachers aren't doing much better either. With the states in control of the education system, will the notorious Common Core curriculum be removed before it destroys another generation of children? What happens to charter schools when the Feds are out of the picture? Will the price of college tuition ever drop, or is Woodrow Wilson's vision of a two-tiered education system soon to become a reality? One thing is for sure: the Department of Education needs to go.

Though European administrative laws have gained global significance in the last few decades, research which provides both theoretical analysis and original empirical research has been scarce. The Common Core of European Administrative Laws Retrospective and Prospective (Brill/NIjhoff, 2023) an important account of the evolution of judicial review and administrative procedure legislation, using a factual analysis to shed light on how the different legal systems react to similar problems. Discussing the concept of a ‘common core', Giacinto della Cananea reveals the commonalities in, and differences between, the foundational assumptions of European administrative adjudication and rule-making. This is the fourth book in the series, Comparative Law in Global Perspective published by Brill Niehoff, and it is available open access here. Giacinto della Cananea is a full professor in the department of law at the University of Bocconi. He holds a PhD in European law from the European University Institute (1994) and a law degree from the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza' (1989). He is a public lawyer, with research interests in administrative law, European Union law and global administrative law, with specific focus on three areas: the comparative law of administrative procedures, the general principles of law, and budgetary issues. He and Mauro Bussani are co-editors of the series Comparative Law in Global Perspective, published by Brill Niehoff Jessie Cohen holds a Ph.D. in History from Columbia University.
