    If you know anything about human physiology, you would know that counting calories is a losing effort. Telling someone to cut calories and exercise more is the dumbest advice to give. This is akin to someone asking Bill Gates how he got so rich, and Bill replying with, "I'm rich because I spend less than I earn."... duh. It's simply not enough data! In the last episode we shined a light on where this calories in vs calories approach came from... coca cola! As you may already know, I'm a big advocate of intermittent fasting, and a huge opponent to the dreaded calorie counting approach. I get asked all the time; "Isn't intermittent fasting and cutting calories the same?" Fasting is not about eating less, it's about eating less often. With that being said, you often times end up cutting calories by default, when intermittent fasting. Here's the thing, there's a vast difference between cutting calories and eating frequently throughout the day, and cutting calories and practicing intermittent fasting. Theres no receptors in our body that counts calories, so why the heck are we counting calories?  Let's take a look at Webster's definition of ‘food': “material consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, and fat used in the body of an organism to sustain growth, repair, and vital processes and to furnish energy.” It's about getting your nutrients from those calories. That should be your most important focus.  In this controversial episode, Ben puts a spotlight on who came up with this flawed energy balance hypothesis.
