We talk about what activities we are comfortable with at this current stage of kindergarten and how we are exploring the world of extracurriculars with a grain of skepticism and permission to adjust as needed!! Paris talks about starting Miles in hockey and her end goals for her children's activities. Britt talks about interviewing for a full time job and then about your children coming as they are and adjusting expectations in your current family from how you grew up. We hope this episode feels helpful and relatable in some way to what you are currently experiencing! We would love to hear how you are currently managing the push and pull of extracurricular activity!!You can follow along on Instagram @kindred_conversations.

This episode is named after a book by Eric Maisel, PhD that I am currently reading. From the initial chapters, I can tell you that it is about changing not only what you think, but also how you think, using the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy. On the back jacket of the book, the author includes information that will ultimately do the following: “∙ increase your creativity ∙ reduce your anxiety ∙ heal from past trauma ∙ achieve emotional well-being, and ∙ live your life purpose.” Some people need a book to help guide them on such a transformational learning experience. Other people live it and just seem to figure out how to get through it. My guest on today's episode of the FFAB podcast is such a person. I honestly do not remember where Carmelina Baccari and I first met. It must have been through socializing somewhere among mutual friends. She and I bumped into each other recently at a wedding—of a mutual friend that neither one of us knew that we shared. Carmelina and I chatted briefly, and I knew that hers is a story that must be told—boldly and widely. It is a tale of redesign, reformation, and resilience. It is also one of choice, healing, self-love, and the paradox of losing yourself to re-create yourself. Carmelina joins me today via Streamyard on the Forever FAB Podcast to discuss healing, self-love, and the paradox of losing yourself to re-create yourself. Today I wanted to give you some fuel to create a new life by leveraging one of the most powerful assets you have, your property. The idea came to me after having several conversations with people who are feeling stuck by the properties they own. Then I came across an article about a couple that moved from a major city to Portugal and leveraged their property to make it happen. WOW! What an adventurous life! When we think of money, we often separate its functionality from its power to redesign our lifestyles. Assets are a powerful tool in lifestyle redesign! If you know how to use them, they will allow you to live a more exciting, easy, and full life. Trust me! But we often don't know how to use them. We don't realize that they can be the key to creating more space in our lives. Your property can be the key to so much more of what you want. In this week's episode, I am going to talk about: Using your assets for lifestyle design What kind of money mindset can lead to more freedom and choices Why we are stuck when it comes to property ownership How you can leverage property to create a new lease on life Do you want to make some money changes quickly? Your self-concept is your bundle of beliefs about yourself and every part of your life and your world. It's the “master program” of your subconscious computer. The Law of Belief says that your beliefs determine your reality because you always see the world through a screen of prejudices formed by your belief structure. Your self-concept, which is your belief structure, precedes and predicts your performance and behavior in all areas of your life. You always act consistently with your self-concept and the bundle of beliefs that you've acquired from childhood. Stated another way, you're where you are and what you are because of what you believe yourself to be. Whether you're rich or poor, happy or unhappy, fat or thin, successful or unsuccessful, your beliefs make you that way. If you change your beliefs in any area of your life, you begin immediately to change in that area—your expectations, your attitudes, your behavior, and your results all change. Your outer world is an expression of your inner world; it can't be different. You're not what you think you are, but what you're thinking about. Everyone is programmed to be who they are today. For lasting change, to act or behave differently, you have to change and reprogram your self-concept. The reprogramming occurs when you replace the self-limiting ideas and beliefs with self-affirming thoughts that update your master system with new beliefs and ideas. Begin to think of yourself as you want to be, not as you currently are. When you change your thoughts, they begin to materialize as you have envisioned them. ASPECTS OF YOUR SELF-CONCEPT There is a direct relationship between how well you do anything and your self-concept in that area. You perform as well as you believe you are capable of achieving. Your outside can never be better or different than you think yourself to be on the inside. Whenever you're doing well and feel good about yourself in any area of your life, you demonstrate a positive self-concept in that area. Whatever area you're dissatisfied with or performing sub-par in, your negative beliefs dominate that area. What makes positive change possible for you is that your self-concept is primarily subjective – based on experience, not necessarily fact or truth. Your beliefs about yourself, especially your self-limiting beliefs and doubts, aren't based on the truth or facts. Negative ideas about yourself and your abilities usually are based on false information and the impressions you have taken in and accepted as truth. When you start to reject self-limiting ideas, they begin to lose their power over you. When you deliberately change your self-concept, your true potential becomes unlimited. THE TURNING POINT The turning point for you will happen when you learn how your self-concept controls your life and then decide to change it. Your self-concept is a general summary of your beliefs about yourself. Within your self-concept, you have groups of smaller self-concepts, which control your behavior and performance in every area of your life. You have a self-concept for your personal appearance, how much money you will make, where you'll live, who you'll be in a relationship with, even how popular you are with friends and others in the world. Each self-concept also has a subset of self-concepts. For example, a person may have a positive self-concept about their knowledge about weight loss but a limiting self-concept about their ability to maintain a healthy weight. And that's why the person can tell everyone else about weight loss and management but doesn't maintain a healthy weight for themselves. As with all beliefs, your self-concepts gradually move into comfort zones. Your subconscious does everything it can to keep you there, resisting all change, positive and negative. The comfort zone is where discipline and achievement go to die. When you feel like you can't break a habit, you're in a comfort zone.

The spiritual aspect of transforming spaces and the importance of beauty, harmony and passion is what our special guest, Sabrina Soto, a host and designer, speaks to in this conversation with Lee. She believes that any space you live in can (and should) be a representation of who you are, regardless of budget. Sabrina has designed for various HGTV shows and is on the new reboot shows, Trading Spaces and While You Were Out on TLC, in addition to being featured in many publications. As a first generation Cuban-American, hard work and perseverance were instilled early on in her life and is why her design style is always full of pop, color and heart! In this show, Sabrina and Lee discuss the role spirituality has played in her life and in her work, how meditation led her to experiencing how much beauty there is in the world, and how she is healing the people pleaser in her. She offers a behind-the-scenes view of the highs and lows of working on TV, as well as her favorite aspect, and the impetus of starting her Redesigning Life podcast. Filmed in 2020, she reveals she's changed more in this year than she has in five years and what parenting during COVID has been like. Midlife is when many people start to wonder if they are on the right path. This question could feel unsettling, even scary. After all, by midlife, most of us have invested a few decades in our chosen line of work, and starting afresh seems daunting. Statistically speaking, over 43% of women will live beyond their 90s, and close to 10% will live to 100, so doing a pivot at midlife is not too late! You should do work that brings you joy until you take your last breath. There's no reason you can't do what you're passionate about just because you've hit a certain age. And this idea that you have to be stuck in the same job forever with no hope of making a change—well, that's just false. "It is never too late to be what you might have been." — George Eliot This topic of making a midlife career transition came up in our women-only coaching group, and I was excited to see this question come up. If you are pondering this question, it means that you are likely further along in your healing journey. You want more out of life than barely surviving; you want to thrive in all areas of your life, and this means doing work that leverages your strength, fulfills you, and aligns with your values. The main focus is leading Women in the Black Motherhood Community through truly healing of their past by first "deciding for" it, helping them to tell their story Fearlessly and Confidently, because "their story is more powerful in another Woman's hands and Ultimately Designing a Life they love from Scratch that entices and excites them-because "starting over is what they get to do. Hear how to reinvent your future in the midst of crisis At the height (or depth) of the COVID-19 crisis, we thought it might be valuable to have an anthropologist share with you his perspective on how we might imagine the changes that are going to follow this major economic disruption, especially since we too are anthropologists. We had Adam Gamwell on our podcast back in September 2017 which you can listen to here, and it was natural to want him back now. As you listen, you'll hear how anthropologists are very good at stepping back and observing the changes and adaptations people are making to the crisis. You will enjoy this podcast, as insightful as it is timely. Listen and learn! Creating stories to explain the pandemic to ourselves While some pundits are already claiming to know what we will do as we come out of this crisis, Adam and I both know from our own experience as futurists and as anthropologists that predicting the future is maybe an art, but rarely a science, much less correct. It is just another clever story that we humans create when we want certainty in a period of uncertainty. These are times when we are re-writing our own personal story so we can make sense out of the disruptions. The fictions are typically ones where we are the heroes, the others are the barbarians, and we win. I hope we, all of us, are winners. But rather than imagining the unknown and unfamiliar, we can watch and listen to how people attempt to redesign their lives. That is the best “certainty” of all the imagined ones. And that is how people create their realities when the ones they had before are no longer the reality of the present. As I do interviews for our podcast, I love the stories people are sharing with us about how they are capturing the new, and leveraging their talent, their skills and their imaginations to re-invent their own present and future. Join in our conversation and learn from our journey. Seth has turned the focus of his design practice inwards to re-design his life. Perhaps, transformation starts with the designer, before attempting to design experiences for others? He gave up his job, belongings and life in San Francisco to take on a new adventure in Europe and attitude to life. We talk about his transition, some of his projects and what transformation means. Tip #4 for creating balance in your life is: Redesign your life around your values. If your life is out of balance, it may be because your life does not match your values. Redesigning your life when there are others to consider may get a little tricky, but it will be well worth it in the long run. The most important thing to remember is that sacrificing happiness will not bring balance in your life - or the other way around. You first have to design your life from the inside out (around your values) for it to be in balance - not to mention to experience any level of happiness. It's amazing how much easier life seems when you design it in line with your values. You will find greater satisfaction in many, if not all, areas of your life if you start with the core and work outward. Tune in tomorrow for Tip #5 – the final tip for Creating Balance in Your Life. To download my complimentary 6-page values clarification exercise to help get you started on really defining your values, go to https://www.https://www.accountabilitycoach.com//values-clarification/.

Most people don't even know they are a world changer. They can change lives and never know it. Stephanie Calahan thinks is a blessing to work with these individuals who make a big difference, and has made it her goal to help others make an impact as well. Inspiration: After years of working as a consultant with fortune 100 and 50 companies, she often thought she would retire working for someone else. In 2001, due to major shifts in the environment of the company she was working for she realized it was negatively affecting her health, and soon the negatives outweighed the positives and something had to change. Challenge: Stephanie felt she is her own biggest obstacle. She feels that she was a hard-worker and a fast learner. She calls her self a work-addict. Even knowing this while she built her business, she went out and volunteered and took on more than she could handle. Looking around she realized she had nothing to show, but plaques and awards on the wall. Finally, admitting to herself that there was a problem and that her illness was self inflicted. She found help, and was able to redefine and redesign her entire life. Passion: SUMMER! Stephanie loves going outside and enjoying the world. She is most passionate about helping people get past their own obstacles. Advice: Be true to yourself! Everybody says they know their truth and they know what they need to do, but somehow there is something in the back of their mind that tells them that it wouldn't ever work that way. It is COMPLETELY possible to build a business that is successful just by listening to yourself.
