Our current industrialized agriculture and food industry is not sustainable! Its the #1 contributor to climate change, the number 1 cause of deaths due to diet related diseases, It's causing our soil depletion, destruction of our biodiversity, depleting our water resources, creating social injustice, and threatening our national security.. Just to name a few.. According to Dr. Mark Hyman author or Food Fix.I had many Aha moments When I read this book and went down a deep dive into the research both the ones he provided and the contradictory research. This is what inspired the Food Revolution Fridays segment on this podcast. I feel it’s my moral obligation to spread this information to as many people as possible so I can help you decipher through all the confusing and sometimes misleading  information out there. What you do with this information will be up to you. I am just hoping to shed some light because I have seen the clinical implications first hand in my own life along with some of my patients lives. So the big question for this episode is, if you knew the true cost of that fast food burger or can of soda, or any factory farmed foods.. Would you still consume it as much as you do, if at all? What are some things that you can do to help? 1: Eat mostly plants2: Look for the regenerative organic certification label when eating eating animal products3: Check out sources like Eatwild, localharvest, first hand foods, union of concerned scientists, EWG, sustainable food trusts, and US public interest group. 4: Join a CSA to support local food systems. 5: Eat at restaurants that are putting sustainability as a priority. 

I Fell Off The Health Wagon During Quarantine! The Simple Steps I Took To Get Back On Track!

The first three months of quarantine I fell off  my health wagon and was eating fast food way more often than I have in the past and way more often then I would have liked to and I wasn't only just enjoying my glass of wine I was more than enjoying it it was becoming excessive and in. 3 months I could feel my body going back 2 the issues that I had 10 years prior and I knew I needed to do something about it.I decided to get some lab testing and wanted to see what the three months did to my body and my health because I was starting to see a lot of weight gain, some brain fog, I wasn't as clear and able to concentrate as much as possible, some digestive issues starting to come back and I was starting to get this weird anxiety and heart palpitations and since I'm a doctor I have access to a blood pressure machine and I took my blood pressure and it was 145 / 96 which is crazy because my blood pressure is a normally great and it's usually 118 / 78 before  quarantine hit.  So I definitely needed to to do some lab testing. The results of the lab testing where alarming but not shocking because I was starting to feel the way I felt 10 years ago. My lipid levels were extremely elevated when they were optimal before quarantine hit, I had low levels of omega's which can decrease your body's anti-inflammatory response. My liver enzymes were very high which means I was at risk for liver disease, and I was also at a cardiovascular risk, and as I stated before I had high blood pressure. my digestive panel showed that I had some intestinal permeability or leaky gut some multiple food reactions, and dysbiosis. This all happened in a matter of 3 months and I was still working out three to four times a week so this all occurred just from food I was also still doing some self-care like personal development I learn how to speed read I was doing my daily meditations and doing some Stress Management things but that didn't hold up to my diet and my drinking! Find out what I did to get back on track and to start feeling better again.  I also give simple ways for you to get back on track or stay on track.

Currently our health care system is more based off of a sick care model so many doctors have their hands tied and can’t spend the time even if they want to. It’s more reactive instead of proactive.. And this is great for acute care.. But not necessarily great for insidious conditions, preventative care, or even optimizing and maximizing health. Even the lab ranges only show when you are in a disease state.. No wonder, many of my patients state that their labs were considered normal when they went to their conventional doctor, but they weren’t feeling great or even worse they were prescribed an anti anxiety medication or anti-depressant. The one size fits all, pharmaceutical model doesn’t meet the needs of everyone.. So what can you do?
