Joining us today is Jane Jansen, a Natural & Holistic Practitioner at The Tree of Life Wellness Center in Massachusetts. Jane has the unique perspective as a medical professional who, prior to becoming a natural & holistic practitioner, spent years in Radiology and Ultrasound doing research and performing tests on patients with varying types of health problems. Jane joins us today to discuss why probiotics are important at all stages of our lives. Our ancestors tended not to have modern-day 21st Century digestive issues because they ingested naturally fermented foods that, as we know today, produced probiotics & postbiotics. The challenge in today's “fast-food & processed food” world is that we do not eat a lot of naturally fermented foods like our ancestors. Our ancestors, from early times to the early 1900's, ingested more fruits and vegetables, as well as other natural foods that had fermented overtime preserving their food supply. For instance, milk could become yogurt or buttermilk; vegetables could become sauerkraut, pickles, or kimchee. Soybeans could become miso, tofu, or tempeh. By-the-way, we can still use these foods to incorporate probiotics from food naturally into our diets. But our modern food industry is largely based on a fast-food culture and processed foods which are lacking in healthful fermentation of fruits and vegetables which naturally produce probiotics and more importantly, postbiotics. Postbiotic metabolites is the term that refers to the wide range of health-regulating compounds that the good bacteria produce and secrete in the intestinal tract (primarily in the colon) when they digest and ferment the fiber content in the foods we eat. Everyone is born with a miniature microbiome (eco system) inside the intestines. This ecosystem is populated by trillions of microscopic organisms which include over a thousand species of bacteria, as well as viruses, fungi, and parasites. Most are good, some are bad.As you grow, your gut microbiome begins to diversify into many different types of microbial species. This eco system affects the whole body by controlling the digestion of food, immune system regulation, central nervous system, brain health and other bodily functions as well as keeping guard against harmful invaders.Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics are available at Natural Grocers, Sprouts, and other natural health retailers across the U.S. Also available online. In the episode of Ageless Future, we discuss groundbreaking exploration of Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) led by Drs. Jason Klop and Shaina Cahill from Novel Biome. They detailed how FMT is revolutionizing treatment for chronic, treatment-resistant conditions—ranging from GI disorders to neurological and autoimmune diseases—by restoring gut microbiome diversity. The discussion covered rigorous donor screening protocols, the three-phase treatment process (pretreatment, loading dose, maintenance), and why FMT outperforms probiotics. Real-world case studies showed improvements in digestion, cognition, sleep, and immune balance, with continued benefits months after treatment. The session also tackled treatment logistics, safety concerns, microbiome testing, and protocols for maintaining long-term success through diet and lifestyle. The collaborative concluded with strong enthusiasm for education, ethical sourcing, and integrating FMT into functional practices. www.agelessfuture.com

About this episode: In this in-depth conversation, Cate Stillman speaks with Dr. Michael Biamonte—clinical nutritionist, founder of the Biamonte Center for Clinical Nutrition, and author of The Candida Chronicles—about the misunderstood and widespread issue of Candida overgrowth. They explore the science behind Candida, the pitfalls of self-supplementation, the limitations of conventional testing, and how lab-guided, phase-based protocols can reverse chronic symptoms often misdiagnosed in traditional medicine. Discover the surprising links between Candida, COVID, heavy metals, leaky gut, and even thyroid disorders, and why radical testing and dietary precision matter more than ever. Key Takeaways: Candida overgrowth affects an estimated 35% of the population and is often medication-induced. Self-prescribing supplements without testing can worsen health by creating new nutrient imbalances. Candida can be missed in standard stool tests due to how it colonizes the gut. Anti-fungal treatment must rotate botanicals every 4 days to avoid mutation and resistance. Probiotics don't work until Candida load is reduced—timing is critical. Candida often coexists with pathogens like H. pylori and is linked to symptoms like arthritis, chronic fatigue, sinusitis, neurological issues, and more. Detoxification of heavy metals (like mercury, copper, and uranium) is often essential for long-term Candida recovery. Long COVID symptoms may stem from Candida resurgence due to spike protein effects on gut flora. About the Guest – Dr. Michael Biamonte: Dr. Michael Biamonte is the founder of the Biamonte Center for Clinical Nutrition and a pioneer in treating Candida through lab-driven, individualized protocols. He is also the co-creator of BioCybernetics, a clinical software system originally developed for astronauts to optimize nutrition based on lab tests. With decades of clinical experience, Dr. Biamonte has become a leading voice in functional medicine, emphasizing the role of Candida, gut flora, and systemic toxicity in chronic disease. His book The Candida Chronicles offers a deep dive into his five-phase recovery system.
In this episode of Accelerated Health with Sara Banta, I explore the truth about probiotics and prebiotics—and what most people are missing when it comes to gut health.
