Hosted by Don Ferlazzo and Caitlin Kaye, Welcome to the Jingle takes a jingle-sized dive into the fascinating world of classic local and regional TV and radio jingles. Like our Facebook page and be sure to rate, review and subscribe on Apple Podcasts or w
Just like the original installment before it, this sequel holiday special follows the exact same formula as its predecessor. First, Caitlin and Don gift each other a randomly-selected advertiser. Then, after a 30-minute hiatus (that you don't have to wait through thanks to the magic of audio editing), we present each other with freshly-written original jingles that would make even a grinch's heart grow three sizes (minimum). After that, Don surprises Caitlin with a political jingle he found in the wild that ultimately failed to help its candidate win an election, but is too country-fried good not to discuss. Enjoy and Happy Holidays from your friends at Welcome to the Jingle!
S3:05 - Nantucket Crisps (Nantucket, MA) by Don Ferlazzo & Caitlin Kaye
WTTJ is back with yet another long-shelved episode recorded earlier this year as we profile the jingle of Zoom Tan, the regional tanning salon chain with a heavy presence in both New York and Florida. In this one, Don pledges his loyalty to his childhood dentist while Caitlin finally comes clean about her desire to be tan and tasty despite her better judgement. We also cover the local (to us) Zoom Tan takeover and multiple news reports of unauthorized cell phone use at the salon while Don tries his best to avoid a lawsuit. Will he succeed? Listen in to find out!
After a months-long hiatus that had absolutely nothing to do with Don's distaste for jingle being featured, Welcome to the Jingle returns with the toe-tapping ad for legendary local(ish) beverage company Utica Club of Utica, New York! Ok, this episode was recorded nearly a half-year ago before being lost and then re-discovered on a hard drive, so there are plenty of dated references - but don't let that stop you!. You'll hear all about Caitlin's Mexican guacamole disaster, Don's upcoming original pop tune release (which has since happened: Summer Song - check that out on Spotify!), and eventually we review U.C.'s psychedelic full-length jingle from 1968 that Caitlin just loves. Added bonuses include selections from The Nutty Squirrels and our hosts coining the term “consensual mansplaining.” Enjoy!
(AUDIO FILE NOW CORRECTED!) Season 3 continues as Caitlin and Don head to Detroit, MI to profile the classic jingle of Tubby's Sub Shops, which has gone by many names over the years, apparently. In addition to the original 1980s (or perhaps 1990s?) jingle, we get to hear an a cappella cover and some other ad campaigns for the iconic chain of sub shops. Caitlin and Don are back for season 3 of Welcome to the Jingle! In our season premiere, we profile several jingles for Water Country in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. After each receiving visits from three ghosts who helped us understand the true meaning of podcasting, your two favorite hosts have decided to change our ways, open our hearts, and gift you ONE MORE episode before 2023 comes to an end. (Heck, it MUST have been ghosts! Why else would we go on and on about the last episode being our season finale only to drop one more weeks later? Anyway…) Here it is, folks: Welcome to the Jingle's 2023 Holiday Special! In this handmade gift that only a mother could pretend to love, Caitlin and Don each draw a random advertiser from Ebenezer Scrooge's night cap and write an original jingle for it. Who came up with the better jingle? That's for our moms to decide, but you're welcome to listen in and judge us, too. Enjoy, and Happy Holidays from WTTJ!
The Holy Grail of jingles has been found (or rather, it found us) as we finally review the Albany Times Union's iconic television ads for our epic season finale! Yes, we know we've been gone for too long, and with season two coming to an end we're about to be gone even (too) longer, so here you go: a 2.5+ hour episode with absolutely no bathroom breaks (that you know of). We held it for that long and we're betting you can, too, so hit the head and settle in for a marathon-length edition of your favorite pod featuring three version of the TU's “We're Your Source” jingle!
First, a three-week COVID delay. Then, threats of rain, a computer that wouldn't boot up and finally a microphone with a severe case of stage fright. The podcast gods were clearly against us on this one, but in the end, we beat the odds and managed to record our long-awaited live episode at Indian Ladder Farms in Altamont, New York! To kick things off, we sit down with ILF owners Laurie Ten Eyck and Dietrich "Dieter" Gehring to chat about the farm's history, products and upcoming events. After that, we listen to four of their jingles alongside jingle writer/singer/producer/one-man-show Ritz Carlton. As if all that weren't enough to make you want to listen in, we also preview our upcoming season finale featuring WTTJ's "white whale" that we totally found ourselves and definitely wasn't just sent to us by somebody else(according to Caitlin). Thanks again to the folks at ILF for welcoming us to their awesome farm, and to all our friends and family who joined us there!
Unfortunately one of our loveable hosts got sick so we had to reschedule the live show at Indian Ladder Farms. The new date will be Sunday, September 10th from 12-1. All other details remain the same. Sorry for the inconvenience but we still hope to see you there!
We gut it, clean it, bread it and cook it FRESH in our latest episode featuring the jingle for Ted's Fish Fry in Watervliet, New York! Caitlin and Don discuss the Catholic tradition of avoiding “flesh meat” on Fridays and later speculate on what “Munchers” are before finally previewing our next episode (which happens to be our LIVE show at Indian Ladder Farms on August 19th). But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Listen to this episode first, then come see us “IRL” at “ILF” on “A19!” Event details at https://fb.me/e/J5QtiaAy
These are the times (the very best times!) because Welcome to the Jingle is back to profile a set of catchy jingles from Pudgie's Pizza and Subs in Central New York! While some restaurant chains force you to choose between pizza OR subs, this one promises both over and over again with four separate jingles spanning several decades. One even features multiple modulations! (What's a modulation? Don't worry, Don will mansplain it to you in painful detail.) Bon appétit!
We needed an escape so we rate(d) one (actually two) jingles for The Great Escape Fun Park in Lake George, NY! Don rides the Steamin' Demon down memory lane while Caitlin fears what nightmares await in Crackaxle Canyon. Later, there's a long tangent about bath salts before we finally preview our next episode on a jingle for a pizza chain which promises “Good Times” for all. How are you liking these shorter episode descriptions? Writing them is the worst part of producing a podcast so don't be surprised if the next one is even shorter. Enjoy!
We're back and we REALLY love our jobs in this episode as Caitlin and Don review the jingle for Beer Belly Bob's Beverage Center in Waterford, NY! First, Don makes an exciting announcement about the podcast (first minute of the show - don't miss it!), then we dissect this amazing ear worm brought to us by the legendary "Rhymin' Richie” Phillips of WGNA fame. We also get to hear other selections by this songwriting/radio veteran before previewing our next episode that promises to be GREAT GREAT GREAT! Why are you still reading this episode description? Just listen to the damn episode already!
Someone made a store just for meeeee…so we just HAD to feature its jingle - The Food Emporium supermarket chain in New York, NY! First we play and discuss this heartwarming ‘80s gem, then we throw in some bonus supermarket jingles for Hy-Vee (American Midwest), Grand Union (Upstate New York) and Robinson's Supermarket (the Philippines). Things take a dark turn when Caitlin and Don smell something cookin' next door before we finish up by teasing our next episode featuring an adorable ear worm for an overweight man's beverage center. Hope you're hungry!
In our first-ever bonus episode, we share our full interview with Bob Button of The Sharks which we recorded for our previous episode (S2:E06 - "Let's Have A Party, Albany!"). Don geeks out about vinyl records and bands with horn sections while Bob reveals more details on the history of the song, his career and other jingles that he helped pen. We've got another proper episode coming in a few weeks so listen to this one reeeeeeal slowly to hold you over, people!
In our triumphant return, Caitlin and Don brag about the Albany Times Union's recent feature on our podcast (front page!), then we dive deep into our favorite tune about Albany, New York: “Let's Have A Party, Albany!” by The Sharks. You'll hear the song (which we view as a jingle for the city), followed by a snippet of Don's interview with actual Shark Bob Button. After that, we take turns forcing additional tourism jingles down your earholes (Wisconsin State Fair, Michigan and one more that Drew Carey probably wishes doesn't exist). Finally, we preview our next episode set to feature the jingle for a principal center of commerce offering a wide variety of edible delicacies. Also, keep an eye out for a BONUS EPISODE which includes Don's complete interview with Bob Button of The Sharks!
Caitlin and Don recap actual world events that definitely happened since our last episode before profiling the jingle for Comfort Windows and Doors, a family-owned home improvement company based in Syracuse, New York. This episode is packed with truth and reality, from surprising celebrity deaths to the the sad story of actual person Joel McGillicuddy (so real). Finally, we tease our next episode which promises to take our listeners around the world (or at least the country) as we feature tourism jingles for local cities. Let's be honest - based on our track record, we probably won't record again for another 3-6 months so enjoy this episode, will ya?
In an episode recorded months (and months) ago, Caitlin and Don come at you hard with the witty banter you know and love as we review the jingle for the former Crystal Beach Park in Crystal Beach, Ontario in Canada. Caitlin's research into the amusement park's rollercoaster history will leave you shaking your severed head and feet, while Don's ignorance is sure to incite a race war for the ages. After that, we'll preview our next episode featuring a jingle for a Syracuse-based home improvement company whose windows are amazingly “the pride of New York.” Enjoy!
“We've got the fun” as Welcome to the Jingle returns for an all-new episode featuring the jingle for Milford Amusement Center in Milford, CT. They've got bumper cars and gang fights, too - everything “kids love to do!” Caitlin finally gets to discuss an actual logo and Don comes to the realization that “every business has stabbings,” so this one has a little something for everyone. After that, we preview our next episode in which we'll review a corny-yet-lovable jingle for an Ontario, CA-based amusement park which may just leave you petrified. POP! POP!
The Heavy Hitters do it again, and again (and again!) in this marathon episode featuring our review of the Martin, Harding and Mazzotti jingle, which, as it turns out, has been recycled by countless law firms across the country! In the process of reviewing this gem, Caitlin questions her reality while Don geeks out about his childhood hero Ernest P. Worrell. And as always, we preview our next episode featuring a catchy advert for an ill-fated Connecticut-based amusement center. What does that even mean? Find out next month on…Welcome to the Jingle! NOTE: Original upload of this episode was incomplete. Re-uploaded with complete episode on 7/14/22.
Get ready to “experience the magic” as Welcome to the Jingle returns with our season two premiere! In this episode, Caitlin and Don profile the jingle for Koto Japanese Restaurant in Latham, New York, but not before Don serenades the internet with the Gummi Bears theme song and Caitlin exposes hibachi as “the world's greatest scam.” After finally discussing the Koto jingle, we tease (or straight-up spoil) our next episode, which we predict just might get us sued by every heavy hitting law firm in America. Enjoy!
Caitlin and Don are BACK with our season 1 finale as we review the jingle for Professional Fire Restoration in Albany, New York! Yes, we realize we left you hanging after episode 9 oh so many months ago, but we're making it up to you with one last episode this season featuring an interview with John Schaefer of Schafer Media & Marketing, who helped develop the aforementioned jingle. We'll also hit on Don's “history of disturbing behavior” and answer Caitlin's burning question “Who IS Pete Seger?” before previewing season two. All this and more on the season finale of Welcome to the Jingle!
We're back as Caitlin and Don review two early ‘90s jingles for Rochester, New York's own Genesee Beer! Things start off with a trip down memory lane for Don, who drank ALL the Genny in college, before we discuss the crumbling marriage of a loveless couple detailed in one of the jingles. Clocking in at nearly 1 hour in length, we hope you're up for “staying with it for the long ride” in this one! And yes, we preview our next episode featuring a jingle for a company that promises to leave you “from ceiling to floor, even better than before!”
“Hang on for the wild one!” In our triumphant return, Caitlin and Don review the jingle for Enchanted Forest Water Safari in Old Forge, New York...eventually. Caitlin kicks things off by detailing her recent visit to the abandoned Catskill Game Farm, then Don highlights Water Safari's history (featuring death, sex and poop) before we finally discuss the jingle itself. Just when you think we're back on track, we go rogue again and dive into the definitely true meaning of pineapple flags, so be warned. We finally wrap things up by previewing our next set of jingles for a Rochester, New York-based brewery that's proudly “for people like yooooooou.”
Caitlin and Don “take a chance” and “make it happen” as we review the iconic jingle for Foxwood Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT. Caitlin fights through her hatred of card games and slot machines to give us a brief history of the Native American-owned property before we go all-in analyzing its 1999 jazz-inspired jingle. We also listen to the updated version circa 2010 before previewing our next episode featuring the jingle for an upstate New York animal-themed water park where (we're told) “the fun never stops!”
Don simply can't stop gushing about Hoffman's Playland as we review the jingle for this classic kiddie amusement park formerly based in Loudonville, New York. Don quickly hijacks the podcast taking everyone down memory lane as he fights back happy tears while Caitlin reveals her long-repressed dream of writing a jingle for a fertility clinic. After that, we preview our next episode featuring a well-known jingle for a regional casino that's situated “where the trees are standing tall.” Know of a local or regional jingle that we should review on a future episode? Stop what you're doing and e-mail us at welcometothejinglepod@gmail.com!
Caitlin and Don go 20,000 leagues north of the border to review a series of jingles for Marineland in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Caitlin details the park's troubled history and Don learns the true fate of the real-life “Free Willy” before we finally dive into a charming set of watery prison-themed jingles spanning three decades. After all that, we preview our next episode featuring the jingle for a beloved former Upstate, New York amusement park that was undeniably “the family place to beeeeeee.”
Caitlin and Don dive deep into a wave pool of nostalgia as we review the jingle for Water Slide World in Lake George, New York. We share our memories of attending the now-shuttered attraction, while also recalling our misadventures at other water-based theme parks. Finally, we preview our next episode set to feature a set of jingles for Canada's problematic answer to Sea World.
Caitlin and Don find adventure as we review the jingle for now-defunct upstate New York zoo Catskill Game Farm. Don goes deep into the history of America's first privately-owned zoo, which closed in 2006 before re-opening as an inn and luxury campground in recent years. Caitlin shudders at the idea of exploring the zoo's ruins today while pondering what happened to the animals who once lived there. We also preview our next episode featuring the jingle for a former waterpark and its wild slides. (Wild? You bet!)
Don takes a trip down memory lane as we review the jingle for legendary Cape Cod, Massachusetts hot spot Thompson's Clam Bar. Don grew up vacationing on the Cape with his family and remembers dinners at Thompson's fondly, and while Caitlin has never had the pleasure, she's been to Cape Cod many times herself. We dive into some dark theories involving the singers of this throwback duet before previewing our next episode featuring the jingle for a now-shuttered upstate New York zoo.
In our premiere episode, Don and Caitlin review the jingle for Columbus, Ohio-based restaurant Rotolo's Pizza. Caitlin recently discovered the tune when it was featured on the Endless Threads podcast and we found it so catchy/ridiculous that we were inspired to launch our own podcast about TV and radio jingles. We talk about what makes it great vs. what we'd change, and we rate it on catchiness, effectiveness and overall amazingness. We also preview our next episode featuring the jingle of a certain seafood restaurant Don remembers fondly from his childhood family vacations.
