While this is definitely a Christmas movie, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York should not have been made. It's a remake of Home Alone that came out 2 years before, but with worse pacing and less stakes. Written by John Hughes, directed by Chris Columbus, and starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, Tim Curry, Brenda Fricker, and Catherine O'Hara. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thegenxfiles/support

What's up, dudes? I'm once again joined by my brother Danny to talk all about the sequel to one of the best Christmas movies ever! Yep, it's “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”! It was a blatant cash grab from the studio. Of course, it has a phenomenal Christmas musical score, composed by the great John Williams! And who doesn't love even more over-the-top Looney Tunes-style comedy? Kevin McCallister's family is preparing to go to Florida for Christmas. When Buzz humiliates precocious little Kevin at their Christmas concert, his acting out causes his parents to banish him to the attic. One little blackout and downed phone line later, and Kevin is almost left home alone again! Luckily, he makes it to the airport. Unfortunately, he gets on the wrong plane and lands in New York City! Kevin checks into a hotel and lives it up on his dad's credit cards. The plot really kicks into gear when the Wet—no, Sticky—Bandits escape from prison and plan to rob a local toy store. With all his cunning and ingenuity–and spunk–Kevin defends his uncle's house with traps and snares, and ensures the capture of the rogues! And there's a cool pigeon lady! This one's got it all, especially quotes! My brother and I can't help ourselves! Paint cans? Check. Electrocution? Yup. Spending $967 on room service? Definitely! So grab your bricks, dip your rope in kerosene, and defend a toy store with this episode on “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York!” Dig it! Give us a buzz! Send a text, dudes!Check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! Later, dudes!
Ho Ho Ho! Or should I say Ho Ho Home Alone? I've already said it, it's too late to take it back. I might even say it again. Ho Ho Home Alone. It's December and Christmas is looming over us all. Have you bought your presents? Have you left any of your children home alone? We're doing the Home Alone franchise. Get ready for family friendly extreme violence. Get ready for Macaulay Culkin and a small dose of Kieran Culkin. It's a beloved Christmas Classic, what can you say?Join us next week for the similarly beloved sequel, HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK! Kevin gets lost again but this time in New York and he meets Donald Trump and he murders the bandits and he works at a hotel just like Ben.Follow us @thefranchisees on Instagram and Twitter and email us at thefranchiseespod@gmail.com
Rivka and Frank welcome back Evan from Left of the Projector podcast to discuss the upper-middle-class fever dream that is Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Could this movie even exist if Kevin McCallister weren't a white affluent child? Zero percent chance. The condescension, the entitlement, the PIGEON LADY. They talk about it all, plus who Mr. Duncan would have supported in the 2020 Democratic primary. Left of the Projector Party for Socialism and Liberation For next week's movie, we'll be watching the 1988 Bill Murray Christmas classic, Scrooged.
Matt's brother Elliott returns to the show to help Matt and Laci cover Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. It's 104 minutes of trying to figure out if Kevin McAllister (Macaulay Culkin) is cinema's greatest sociopath. This movie is a beloved classic to many thirtysomething adults in America, but it is a mess. Shouldn't the whole movie have taken place at the hotel? Also, adult Kevin McAllister is definitely a masculinity influencer, isn't he? I am home alone most nights and I absolutely love it - Andy(Andy just slapped on some aftershave, which typically doesn't burn unless you've just shaved, but of course, Kevin was just a kid in these movies, so why the hell did it burn him?) Some folks think "Home Alone 2" is just the same movie again (and they're right). But to others, it's an "obscene artifact"—and a superior sequel at that. On today's show, old friend and literary agent extraordinaire Noah Ballard makes his case for why Kevin McCallister's Christmas déjà vu succeeds in going darker, showcasing unforgettable audio technology, and presaging the ills of the next American century.
