Truth in Accounting discusses bad accounting practices in state and local governments across the United States and how to change them with Kevin Bronner from the University at Albany. _________________ Currently, the 50 states are required by law to balance their budgets. However, because governments use cash-based accounting, budgets that appear balanced are anything but balanced. With cash-based accounting, financial reports show expenses only when money is paid, not when debt or future expenses are incurred. This presents a flawed and inaccurate picture of governments' financial condition. Full accrual calculations and techniques (FACT) accounting provides a more holistic view of government finances. Now is the time to advocate for common-sense reforms to government accounting and financial reporting requirements. Truth in Accounting is mobilizing experts, advocacy organizations, watchdog groups, journalists and everyday citizens to demand that state and local governments institute FACT-based accounting. A lot of press coverage tends to conflate environmental, social, and governance initiatives exclusively with environmental stewardship and climate change. In this episode of LRN's Principled Podcast, host Susan Divers discusses best practices for integrating governance and social impact considerations into ESG strategy with Sony Group's Global Ethics & Compliance Strategy Leader, Kathleen Franklin. In this episode, you'll meet Stacy Westfall from Loudonville, Ohio. Stacy is one of the most beloved trainers and clinicians across disciplines for her knowledge as well as her delightful personality. Horses have always been and continue to be her happy place, and it's where the world makes sense. You'll hear Stacy explain how one of the most humiliating rides of her life led to discovering bridleless riding. She later became an overnight household superstar after her bareback and bridleless ride on her special mare, Roxy. She changed career paths at the height of her successful public horse training career because she didn't want to lose an ounce of magic in her relationships with horses. You'll hear Stacy's powerful and unique take on the connection between horse and rider. She'll break things down into the rider's mind, and body, and the horse's mind, and body - with the rider's mind being in the driver's seat. I know you're going to love – and be enlightened by - what Stacy Westfall has to say. Guest Info Stacy Westfall grew up in South China, Maine, was taught to ride by her mother, and got her first pony, named Midnight Misty, at the age of six. Stacy went to college at the University of Findlay in Ohio, where she majored in equestrian studies. At the root of her technique is the principle to "think-like-a-horse”. In 1994, Westfall met her future husband, Jesse Westfall, at the Quarter Horse Congress. They married in 1997. Jesse Westfall is also a reining trainer and a judge for the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA). The couple settled in Mount Gilead, Ohio, have three sons, and run a horse training facility. Westfall gives clinics, trains horses, and competes in reining. In 2003 Stacy won the National Reining Horse Association Freestyle reining competition riding with no bridle, and in 2006, on the black American Quarter Horse, Whizards Baby Doll, aka “Roxy". She won twice while riding bridleless and bareback.

The Teacher Coach with T.K. Griffith and Scott Matthew Callaghan
Justin Todd's high school football coach looked to his right and saw then-college-sophomore Justin in the stands back at his alma mater, East Knox High, to watch the football game that night. The hall of fame coach called Justin Todd down to his side, asked him to stand with him on the sidelines that night while he coached, and sparked a lifelong passion for Justin Todd, known today as one of the best high school football coaches in the state. Turning programs into gold at Loudonville, Mt. Vernon and Wadsworth, Todd's magical touch is actually not magic at all--it's simply a tireless work ethic, energizer bunny energy, inspiring charisma and authentic knack at building culture that is unrivaled by others. A wide array of educational positions--from physical education teacher to career center program director, athletic director, assistant principal, and others---has strengthened his skill set. But, his love of impacting lives and his innovative coaching mind have led to brilliance thus far for this shooting star of the teacher/coach world.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/teachercoach)

I am live today with Ginny Telego recording from the Loko Bean in Loudonville, Ohio. Today is a milestone, because this is episode 50, so I thought I'd do something different and share our special conversation with you. We are both very busy, so we kick off the show talking about something everyone struggles with. Work life balance. In fact, I don’t even see balance as something that’s possible. Life has seasons. We may have balance for a moment, but it’s more about adapting and moving from one season to the next. We talk about what balance really is and if it’s even possible to find. We talk about how it applies to horse training, writing in nice journals, and if it’s possible to balance life, work, family, and business. We also talk about what you do when life throws you off balance like recently when Ginny’s house burnt down. We talk about adapting, grieving, and fear of failure. We really just take you on a conversation with two busy horse professionals who are trying to live their best lives.
