The prolific screenwriter, David Silverman, is back on StoryBeat for the second time. David has written for stars like Robin Williams, Bob Newhart, Rosanne Barr, Drew Carey, Sarah Silverman, Pee Wee Herman, and others. David has co-created 5 TV series and written and produced on more than 30 different series, including hugely popular shows like Newhart, Roseanne, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Alice, Dilbert, and South Park.David co-created The Wild Thornberrys, which spawned two feature films: The Wild Thornberrys Movie and Rugrats Go Wild. Other feature films David has co-written include Stepping Out, Purple Haze, and The Flintstones Movie. As a Stanford-educated psychotherapist, David's treated and coached aspiring writers, many of whom have gone on to sell their own feature films and TV shows.David and his wife Rogena, who is also a writer and editor, recently collaborated on their excellent book, How to Be a Rockstar Screenwriter, which contains some of the best advice I've read on the mindset that ambitious screen and TV writers need to succeed. Unlike most books on screenwriting, How to Be a Rockstar Screenwriter is filled with solid advice for those dealing with the challenging psychological issues facing writers who wish to work in Hollywood, as well as for those who are already successful screenwriters.  I urge anyone hoping to make it as a professional writer in Hollywood to check out this very wise book. For the record, David and I have known one another for many decades, connected by our mutual friend, the late, great Steve Sustarsic. David and Steve were a well-known, highly successful sit-com writing team. They wrote and produced hundreds of TV scripts together.

Johnny Mac recaps comedy news, led by Stephen Colbert returning to TV the night after The Late Show ended by guest-hosting the Monroe, Michigan public-access show Only in Monroe, featuring guests/cameos including Jack White, Byron Allen, Eminem, Steve Buscemi, and Jeff Daniels, plus local food bits; Colbert previously hosted in 2015. Paramount/CBS issued copyright takedown notices after uploads appeared online, then told Variety it was standard practice against unauthorized posts and waived further enforcement. The Late Show finale drew 6.74M viewers vs Letterman's 13.76M final and Colbert's 2015 premiere 6.55M; Mac says the finale and Colbert's run had little impact on him. The Times of London argues Tim Dillon represents an internet-era successor to late-night, citing younger audiences and cost/format challenges, plus comments about YouTube economics and an upcoming Ben Gleib YouTube show. Her ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse broke into her Hollywood Hills home at 9 PM and waited four hours for her to return. When 38-year-old Amie arrived home after 1 AM, Gareth attacked her in her third-floor bedroom. Roommate Michael Herman heard bloodcurdling screams and choking from downstairs. Gareth strangled Amie, beat her as she fought back with defensive wounds on her hands, then threw her off her balcony. She died from blunt-force trauma and strangulation. Amie had restraining orders against Gareth in 2011 and 2012 for choking, suffocating, punching her, and pushing her from a moving car. One month before her murder, they encountered each other at a red carpet event where he screamed "You ruined my life!" Amie wrote "If something happens to me, he did it." 2/25/2026 Mike and returning cohost - Wheel of Fortune announcer Jim Thornton were thrilled to welcome George Gray to episode 215 of ConversationsRadio. George is well known as the announcer on America's longest-running game show, "The Price Is Right" where he continues on as Drew Carey's sidekick. For nearly three decades, George Gray has become a staple on American television as a host, comedian, actor and performer on a variety of popular TV programs across most major TV and Cable networks. In the late 90's George gained notoriety as the host of the live revival version of "The Gong Show" called "Extreme Gong" on GSN. That gig led George to land a plethora of new hosting credits that included the premiere season of "Junkyard Wars," a new hit series on TLC, that earned George a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.  George then went on to host the daily US broadcast version of the wildly popular game show "The Weakest Link" on NBC, as well as hosting other programs for the network, including the hit series "$25 Million-Dollar Hoax!" With This Ring #76: Royal Rumble 2001 Cindy and Ryan are back in the saddle and looking at 2001. We look at an all-time show, starting off a hot streak of great shows. We talk about how the Trish Stratus/Vince McMahon relationship as it continues to dominate the World title scene. We talk about the re-boot the WWE would do in early January, usually the first Raw after Monday Night Football, setting the course for the Royal Rumble after a typically slow Christmas and New Year shows. Topics we talk about include:  Kurt Angle and Steve Austin having a damn good wrestling match as the main event of Raw until, we all have to remember how important Triple H is. We start with the show proper with a rarity for this era: a straight-up, non-gimmick, really strong tag team match between the Dudleys and Edge and Christian.  We talk quite a bit about Drew Carey and the Drew Carey show and Drew Carey's Improv All Stars and how Drew gets involved in this show, with such an impressive showing where he would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.  We talk about the Canadian Chrisses having a good, but now in hindsight kind of squeamish match. A ridiculous Chyna/Ivory “match” where doing a flip and making minimal contact with 120 pound Ivory somehow breaks Chyna's neck.   Triple H/Kurt Angle having a pretty good match, which is split into a Trish/Stephanie/Vince segment and then follows with their strong World title match.  A great Rumble, featuring an all-time performance by Kane, Drew Carey, the Rock going 40 minute, Big Show's unsuccessful fat farm stay, Stone Cold getting bloodied before he even enters and the return of HAKU! All this and much more. Enjoy!

As a mom of two and having been married many years, I have seen this first hand. From the time we are in our thirties, we have experienced both joy and sadness. Whether that's through finding the right partner, having our heart broken, suffering infertility, or losing a loved one. As we go through life, families go through many changes. Children leave the nest, our parents age, our friendships change, and some marriages end. I write women's commercial fiction where I delve into the human experience and situations that are relatable to most of us. I want my readers to see themselves or their family or friends in my characters and to realize no matter what they are going through, they aren't alone. As my background is writing television sitcoms, I also try to find humor in the tough stuff, in fact, those moments are my favorite to write.https://www.lesliearasmussen.com/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca

Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve

Say hello to the King of Cleveland, the Lord of TV improvisation, and Potentate of the Price is Right game show -- Drew Carey. A regular guy, Drew's enduring and broad appeal has made him a fixture on television since the late 1980s when he competed on Star Search. His Tonight Show debut in 1991 won Johnny Carson's approval and earned Drew the fabled invite to join the guests on the couch. From there Drew became a reliable guest on talk shows and helmed cable specials, then in 1995 launched the Drew Carey Show sitcom, a smash which also featured one of his future improv co-stars Ryan Stiles. Speaking of improv, that was Drew's next conquest, hosting the American version of Whose Line is it Anyway which led to his next star turn, as the replacement for Bob Barker on the Price is Right game show. All the while, Drew has never lost the everyman touch, in whichever medium he chooses! As always find extended clips below and thanks for sharing our shows. Want more Drew? A successful first appearance on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show has launched many a comedy career, and when Drew got his turn at bat in 1991 he knocked it out of the park. https://youtu.be/k6Bt-q_pRh8?si=AdWSqigtOcxJW5nR The Drew Carey show was a hit sitcom and like other hits it had a memorable supporting cast. Here's a nice set of highlights from the show. https://youtu.be/5VN1A5yab5o?si=Ok7fGP_71Ss5Xdza Drew was the host and sometimes participant for the wildly successful improv game show Whose Line is it Anyway? The fifth NYTimes crossword by Ryan Judge made for a very nice Saturday; not a walk in the park, by any stretch, but more straightforward than last Saturday's "let's scale Mt Everest barefoot" uber-challenge. There were some great clues in today's grid. Jean in particular was fond of 35A, Drew Carey once called it "crossword puzzle cheese" on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", EDAM. Mike was glad to learn about 32D, It's formed in Pittsburgh, OHIORIVER, and even gladder to discover the name of a song that has been stuck in his head for years, 26D, Composer of "In the Hall of the Mountain King", GRIEG.Show note imagery: NOME, the finish line of the Iditarod since 1973 (even though the starting point has had to move multiple times for myriad reasons). We love feedback! Improv is so much more than hilarious. It's a comedy writing tool, a key to unlocking our truest selves and a valuable collection of life lessons. Whose Line's Colin Mochrie is here to enlighten and entertain! He starred in the British and American versions of Whose Line Is It Anyway for over 30 years while also making hundreds of TV, film and stage appearances. Colin is an author, an actor, a touring performer and an activist. His stage shows include Asking For Trouble with fellow Whose Liner Brad Sherwood,  and Hyprov… a unique blend of hypnosis and improv with noted hypnotist, Asad Mecci. Joining us on the panel to learn from Colin is Chicago's 13-year-old Lane Tech Improv Team Member Rowan Keel. His first question? “What do you do when you get a bad audience suggestion?” Colin is not stumped. We did, however, him a curve when we requested too much intel about his appearance in the first American Girl Doll movie, Kitt Kittredge in a rousing round of IMDB Roulette. But Colin was able to provide details about his time spent on the sets of: The Paul Anka Show, Goosebumps, The Drew Carey Show, The Tonight Show, Ted Lasso and his newest film, Magnetosphere! Plus, Colin shares improv wisdom as it applies to real life, his intriguing connection to Animutation and the powerful lessons he is learning from his trans daughter, Kinley.  In recommendations--Weezy: Building The Band on NetflixFritz: Apple TV+ Documentary Series: The Long Way Home Path Points of Interest:The Long Way Home - Apple +Building The BandColin Mochrie on WikipediaColin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood - Asking For TroubleHyprov: Comedy Under HypnosisColin Mochrie on FacebookColin Mochrie on InstagramNot Quite The Classics by Colin MochrieMagnetosphereMagnetosphere Trailer

The Price Is Right host and comedy legend Drew Carey dishes on his journey from counting pennies in Cleveland to making millions in Hollywood!Jordan's must reads (including books from this episode): AcceleratEdFull show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1153What We Discuss with Drew Carey:Drew Carey experienced extreme financial hardship before fame, counting pennies, putting only $2 of gas in his car at a time, and eating macaroni with water instead of milk because he couldn't afford both butter and milk.Drew's appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1991 was career-defining. He had visualized the entire sequence in real-time the night before, and it happened exactly as he'd dreamed it, including Carson's "You're funny as hell" comment.Comedians often become less funny as they get more successful because wealth insulates them from the everyday frustrations that fuel comedy. When you're rich, you lose touch with common annoyances that connect you to your audience. The "perfect bid" incident on The Price is Right wasn't cheating, but exposed how the show had become predictable. Super-fans memorized prices from the limited rotation of items, leading to changes in how the show operates.Growth mindset is essential for staying relevant and happy. Drew still attends EDM music festivals, keeps up with new slang, and constantly looks to learn and evolve: "Once you stop growing, that's the end of you."And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps!
