(EDITOR'S NOTE: View From The Pugh is a journalism project from Chris Pugh. Subscribe to his daily newsletter and podcast, follow him on YouTube and sponsor his work)Today's post is sponsored by StreamYard. For fans of ‘90s television, few shows encapsulated the era's quirky charm like The Drew Carey Show. Set in Cleveland and centered around an average guy navigating a dead-end job and absurd workplace politics, the sitcom became a cultural icon—especially in the Midwest. But for years, fans were left asking the same question: why can't we stream it?Now, there's good news... with a caveat. The Drew Carey Show is finally available on major platforms like Amazon and Apple TV. However, unlike other classic sitcoms that come bundled with subscription services, viewers will have to pay per episode—$2.99 each, to be exact. For those hoping to binge all nine seasons, the cost adds up quickly. So why the delay, and why the steep price? The answer lies in music rights. During its original run, The Drew Carey Show frequently featured popular music—from opening numbers to dream sequences and dance breaks. While these made the show special, they also created licensing hurdles that complicated its distribution in the streaming era. Negotiating rights for every track used across the series took years to sort out. This long-awaited return is a bittersweet victory for fans. On one hand, the show's availability means younger audiences can finally discover it. On the other hand, the pay-per-view model feels outdated in an era of binge culture. Still, for many, the cultural value outweighs the price. For Northeast Ohioans, the show holds even deeper significance. Rarely has a major network sitcom been so proudly rooted in Cleveland. From shout-outs to the Browns and Indians (now Guardians) to its blue-collar humor and unfiltered love for the city, the show was more than just funny—it was familiar. In a recent podcast episode, media analysts Chris and Guy explored this return in detail. Guy even shared a personal story about meeting Drew Carey at a Cleveland Browns game, reinforcing the show's close connection with its hometown roots.Their conversation also touched on how the rise of streaming is reshaping access to both legacy TV and live sports. With the NFL, MLB, and other leagues making streaming deals, consumers are forced to juggle subscriptions or pay à la carte—a trend that The Drew Carey Show's re-release exemplifies. In the end, The Drew Carey Show is back. It's not the easiest or cheapest to watch—but for die-hard fans and nostalgia lovers, it's a welcome return. Let's just hope this signals a broader effort to bring more classic shows—music rights and all—back into the digital age.

The Price Is Right host and comedy legend Drew Carey dishes on his journey from counting pennies in Cleveland to making millions in Hollywood!Jordan's must reads (including books from this episode): AcceleratEdFull show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1153What We Discuss with Drew Carey:Drew Carey experienced extreme financial hardship before fame, counting pennies, putting only $2 of gas in his car at a time, and eating macaroni with water instead of milk because he couldn't afford both butter and milk.Drew's appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1991 was career-defining. He had visualized the entire sequence in real-time the night before, and it happened exactly as he'd dreamed it, including Carson's "You're funny as hell" comment.Comedians often become less funny as they get more successful because wealth insulates them from the everyday frustrations that fuel comedy. When you're rich, you lose touch with common annoyances that connect you to your audience. The "perfect bid" incident on The Price is Right wasn't cheating, but exposed how the show had become predictable. Super-fans memorized prices from the limited rotation of items, leading to changes in how the show operates.Growth mindset is essential for staying relevant and happy. Drew still attends EDM music festivals, keeps up with new slang, and constantly looks to learn and evolve: "Once you stop growing, that's the end of you."And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps! (Airdate 4.18.25) Drew Carey's got a brand new lunch date—and she's definitely not from the Bob Barker era. We're breaking down his cozy diner meetup with Niki Skyler, a 37-year-old OnlyFans star and former Penthouse Pet who really knows how to make a first impression (and probably a few second ones, too). Plus, John Mulaney compares parenting a toddler to working on the Ellen show—spoiler alert: you better stop dancing. Also, Sami Sheen throws a little TikTok shade at dad Charlie Sheen, reminding the world that not all family wounds heal with time... or winning. There’s nothing like turning on a comforting game show like The Price is Right and seeing a familiar face. For decades, it was host Bob Barker. For the last 18 years, it’s been comedian and actor Drew Carey, who took over for Barker in 2007. So Carey knows a little something about putting together a long-running production. The Price is Right just celebrated its own milestone – 10,000 episodes. Carey is also a long-time listener of AirTalk. He joins Larry in conversation as they discuss what it’s like being a host of two very different but staple shows.

Have an extra cup of coffee because you are going to need to be on your toes to keep up with this week's Legend, improv comedy superstar, as well as a a fine television actor, Ryan Stiles. Born in the US, Ryan was raised in Vancouver, BC and got his start doing standup and writing for the CBC when he was tapped for the British version of Whose Line is it Anyway. He was lured back to the US as a regular in the Drew Carey show, then what do you know -- Drew launches a US "Whose Line" with Ryan front and center in the cast. That show has also spawned successful improv tours by the cast which continue to this day. Ryan also had a long run as a regular on the Two and a Half Men sitcom, and in his spare time he founded and occasionally appears at an improv comedy theater and school in his home of Bellingham, Washington. As always find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Ryan Stiles? Ryan is known for improv but this is a fun bit -- produced by the Second City in a film noir fashion. https://youtu.be/CpSXAO-N_qQ?si=wB6qeA8Neyl0AGQB Whose Line started in the UK and one of the fun games was Questions Only! (yes, you can speak only in questions). Here's the UK cast in action (also including Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood). https://youtu.be/JcDzy6IgIcg?si=9NZHEC3T8sLr0lFF On the Drew Carey show, Ryan played Lewis Kinski, a buddy of Drew's, who was known for having the lamest pickup lines in town. Here's a few to avoid!https://youtu.be/mzIYmvhyyDk?si=JJ3231qEynqn-GvK Ryan is a community-minded guy, living in Bellingham, Washington.
