This week is all about bands playing other bands' songs… that are completely awesome and radical! Whether they are playing it straight note-for-note, or whether they are re-interpreting it; bands love to pay tribute to great songs that they love! In this episode, we showcase the diversity of how a band can take an 80s classic hit and make it their own. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. From metal bands heavying up classic 80s rock standards to punk bands speeding up 80's pop… we got ya covered! Songs this week include:The Night Flight Orchestra – “Just Another Night” from Amber Galactic (2017)Queensrÿche – “Synchronicity II” from Take Cover (2007)Powerman 5000 – “Electric Avenue” from Copies, Clones, & Replicants (2011)Dave Rude – “Sledgehammer” from Deep Cuts & Rarities (2018)Devil's Train – “Word Up” from Ashes & Bones (2022)Sodom – “Hazy Shade Of Winter” from ‘Til Death Do Us Unite (1997)L.A. Welcome to another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. This time we should re-title it, “Should Be Huge!!!” as this is an active and current band featuring members of other much heavier sounding bands. We are talking this week about the side project of the Swedish metal bands Soilwork and Arch Enemy: the amazingly awesome retro-sounding band THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA! Imagine if Foreigner, Toto, and Survivor had a metal love child and you get this awesome band. If you don't know this band, or if you are only vaguely familiar with them; do yourself a favor and check this out. You may want to put on your workout gear and set up your phone to record a video because you're going to want to create an awesome montage while listening to this! This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that has mastered the ability to recreate those fist pumpingly perfect sounds of AOR / Arena Rock gold that originally existed in the late 70s / early 80s. Unfortunately, their brilliance and innovation in reviving this genre have not been recognized on this side of the Atlantic as much as it deserves. We think they SHOULD BE HUGER… and we are ready to fly that banner proudly!Songs this week include:The Night Flight Orchestra – “Stella Ain't No Dove” from Internal Affairs (2012)The Night Flight Orchestra - “Living For The Nighttime” from Skyline Whispers (2015)The Night Flight Orchestra - “Gemini” from Amber Galactic (2017)The Night Flight Orchestra - “The Last Of The Independent Romantics” from Sometimes The World Ain't Enough (2018)The Night Flight Orchestra - “Divinyls” from Aeromantic (2020)The Night Flight Orchestra - “Midnight Marvelous” from Aeromantic II (2021)The Night Flight Orchestra – “Domino” from Amber Galactic (2017)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

We here at Deaf To All But Metal love the Night Flight Orchestra and their ability to perfectly encapsulate a classic rock sound whilst still sounding like their own entity. Gary Grim spoke to their vocalist, Bjorn "Speed" Strid, about NFO's sound, their upcoming album (Sometimes The World Ain't Enough - out on the 29th of June via Nuclear Blast Records), the band's imagery, their upcoming tour and the ultimate NFO touring partner! Bjorn Strid from Night Flight Orchestra chats to Heavy Magazine about their brand new album Amber Galactic.
It's that time of year again, where Eric, Evan and Dan each pick an album that has not yet been reviewed on the podcast that they thoroughly enjoyed. Evan and Dan both pick the same album, Pet Symmetry - Vision, which Eric likes better than Into It. Over It. Even if the emo revival is something that should not exist. Dan ends up selecting Dan Auerbach's Waiting on a Song instead. Evan and Eric agree that it's an inoffensive music record—with some hooks! Eric goes with The Night Flight Orchestra's latest release, Amber Galactic, for his pick. Evan is blown away by the Swede's take on the late '70s/early '80s AOR era of music. Dan and Eric then move on to review (or at least give their initial impressions on) something ... completely different. Thanks to Amazon Prime next-day delivery they each receive a shipment of Bossman's Jelly Beard Oil in Gold and Magic scents. Listen in to hear the bearded duo's thoughts on the product (no spoilers!). We know what you're thinking. We're all the way to the beer portion and the boys haven't even delivered a full review of anything! Well, get off our cases, because we sort of review Reunion's Juice Factory Pale Ale out of Coralville, IA. Post-Show Notes: Surprise! Dan Auerbach's "Shine on Me" is not a George Harrison cover, but it does sound very familiar. Also, Bossman appears to be based out of Austin, Texas, and not Lexington, Kentucky. However, the shipping label of the product via Amazon did read Lexington.
