“Check out our Nerdy Bitz!”On the very first Nerdy Bitz bonus episode of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim The Nerd plug in, turn it up, and dive headfirst into the 2026 nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. No safe takes. No polite clapping. Just passionate, occasionally unhinged music nerdery. They break down the legacies, the cultural impact, and the “wait… how are they not already in?” factor for a stacked lineup: The Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley, Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, Melissa Etheridge, Lauryn Hill, Billy Idol, INXS, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, New Edition, Oasis, P!nk, Sade, Shakira, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan. From arena anthems to soul-shattering ballads, from metal epics to hip-hop game changers, nothing is off limits. Is influence more important than sales? Does genre even matter anymore? And how do you compare the operatic sweep of one legend to the gritty rebellion of another? Professor Aubrey and Tim The Nerd wrestle with the impossible task of narrowing down greatness. To close it out, they each reveal the five artists they would vote into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame if they held the power. Alliances are tested. Lines are drawn. Feelings are felt.As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Head to his website for information on how to purchase his EP, Here's To You, which is available on all digital platforms.Head to Friends Talking Nerdy's website for more information on where to find us online.

Goose vs. Geese | The Battle of the Waterfowl! In this episode of Derringer Discoveries, we are officially “winging it” as we dive into the avian-obsessed world of rock and roll. Join Paul, Laura, Alton, and our newly minted co-host, Rob Derringer, as we settle a debate over two of the most talked-about bands in the current scene: Connecticut's jam-band kings, Goose, and Brooklyn's post-punk provocateurs, Geese. In This Episode, We Discuss: The "Apex Predators" of Bird Bands: We look at the industry's obsession with our feathered friends, from The Eagles and The Black Crowes to The Yardbirds, The Byrds, and Wings. We break down two very different modern rock stories: Geese, the Brooklyn post‑punk critical darlings who exploded after an SNL appearance and now boast millions of monthly listeners; and Goose, the Connecticut‑born jam‑band phenomenon whose marathon live shows and festival breakout turned them into a touring powerhouse. Geese – The Post-Punk Anarchists: How a group of friends from Stuyvesant High School went from a basement studio called “The Nest” to a bidding war over their demos. The fallout from their polarizing Saturday Night Live performance that split the internet between "rock saviors" and "derivative impostors". Their meteoric rise to over 2 million monthly listeners and critical acclaim for albums like 3D Country and Getting Killed. Goose – The Indie-Groove Torchbearers: The band's "Big Bang" moment at the 2019 Peach Music Festival that transformed them into a national sensation overnight. Why they are considered the new leaders of the jam-band scene, blending the spirit of the Grateful Dead and Phish with a Vampire Weekend sensibility. Their impressive resume of sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks. The Final Vote The team steps off the fence to choose their winner in the Battle of the Waterfowl. Well, look at that. We've come (almost) to the end of another season. Today's episode wraps up the fifth album of our adventure with The Black Crowes. Kev was a big fan coming in, Corey was pretty sure he was a big fan coming in. We've had some high highs and a couple of low lows, but more than anything, we've had pretty good consistency! But, do those ingredients add up to a sauce that you can truly call awesome? Will By Your Side be the third Crowes album to crack our overall top ten? And will Kev salvage any sort of pride in this Season's game, despite already being mathematically unable to stop the Morrissette juggernaut? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and watch it grow.Songs covered in this episode: "Heavy", "Welcome to the Goodtimes", "Go Tell the Congregation" ,"Diamond Ring", "Then She Said My Name", "Virtue and Vice"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSE Hosted on Acast. Your weekly guide to the music biz and how it all works. And it's a bumper episode as Steve and Stu take a look ahead into 2026: what will the big stories be in the coming year? Here are their predictions:It's a year of change for the UK record industry, and where the UK stands in terms of influence in a global context – including acts like Sleep Token who have broken through in the USA.And there's been a lot of layoffs at UK major labels – why might that be good for indie artists? (BTW - get a free trial of our extra content, The Lock In, right here! https://www.patreon.com/12218634/join)AI inevitably will be playing a major role (again) – but what are the potentially erosive impacts now that it's an established technology, what difficult decisions might the streaming platforms need to make, and how might it be used by indie music-makers?Live music will reach a pivotal point this year: the mega stadium shows will continue – but will people keep paying mega ticket prices? And what about the smaller venues who are under more pressure than ever? And will Oasis play Knebworth in 2026 – or 2027? The rumour mill is aggregated by Steve. Those reunion tours will keep coming – but can the bands keep doing it; and what happens when they find they can't sell any more tickets? And in the special post-show lock-in section just for our Patreon Superfans, Steve and Stu prop themselves at the bar to chat about:Are bigger gigs becoming like Premier League Football - where tickets (and everything else at the show) are expensive, gigs are once-yearly events, and people with less cash are being priced out?And what do people want from smaller, cheaper gigs these days anyway? Steve has been jostling shoulders with The Kids to find out.In TPOM fandom news: Steve has already seen Little Grandad in 2026! Stu squeezes in the first Black Crowes mention of the year!Stu tries to create an AI version of a Dry Cleaning song – how did he do it and what did it sound like? And what if a human band took his song, developed it, and performed it live?As ever, we welcome your feedback, emails and – in particular – any questions you might have about how the music biz works!Email us: thepriceofmusicpodcast@gmail.comSee you next week!Steve and Stuart======Support The Price of Music on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/ThePriceofMusicFollow Steve on X - @steve_lamacqFollow Stuart on X - @stuartdredgeFollow The Price of Music on X - @PriceofMusicpodFor sponsorship opportunities, please email - joe@musically.com
The Bears are into a wild card matchup with division rivals, the Packers. The Giants have confounded Corey's hopes yet again by being not quite bad enough to secure the first pick in the next NFL draft, and Canada go down 6-4 to Czechia in the World Junior Hockey Championships. And that's all before we've even mentioned the Black Crowes! We're starting the last album in this season of the UCC with this week's episode and it's hard to believe that we're almost done already. But will "HorseHead" make any sense to Corey or Kev? And will Corey make it through his current illness (sans hotel)? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and go faster!Songs covered in this episode: "Go Faster", "Kickin' My Heart Around ", "By Your Side", "HorseHead", "Only a Fool"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSE Hosted on Acast. On this week's show, we wrap up the merry month of Debts-cember (and the year in general) with the most honorable of mentions, the runners-up that fill our cup, the best of the rest of 2025 All this & much, much less! Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is over 2 rock-solid hours of musical eclectica & other noodle stories. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004.
To start our second look back on 2025, we want to thank everyone who listens to our show and interacts with us to share your love of rock music. We've entered our 6th year and want to show appreciation for all of you who choose to share your rock n roll journey with us. It inspires us to keep our curiosity alive and learn more about the music we love. So thank you all. To wrap up the year we had to pay respects to the many rockers and legends we lost, including guest of the show Terry Reid. Superlungs is British Rock Royalty and we're sorry he's gone but glad we had the chance to thank him for the music. From Ace Frehley to Ozzy Osbourne and Brian Wilson to Sly Stone we lost too many this year and we took a moment to honor them. Looking back on seeing Metallica from the owner's box in Nashville to Iron Maiden in Stockholm and legends like Yes, The Black Crowes and Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening stoked the fires of some fond memories. And our 3 episode series on Live Aid at 40 really stirred some nostalgia and gave us the chance to welcome original MTV VJ Alan Hunter to the show. And we had to thank our artists and legendary guests like Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel, artist Hugh Syme, Stu Allen and Scarlet Rivera. 2025 was a great year and 2026 is looking great at The Wolf!! Jim Keller started in the music industry as part of Tommy Tutone, writing the hit '867-5309/Jenny', then the bands career sank and he left performing, landing as an assistant and then manager for Phillip Glass, Nico Muhly, Ravi Shankar, and others, before 'retiring' and returning to making music by hosting jam sessions with members of The Black Crowes, Levon Helm's band, The Beach Boys, The Wallflowers, The Lumineers, and more. We talk to Jim about the realities of 'crashing and burning', the business and creative divide, the power of honesty, knowing your role, showing up, and a whole lot more.Get more access and support this show by subscribing to our Patreon, right here.Links:Jim KellerTommy TuToneAdam MinkoffTony LeoneNonesuch RecordsEp 46 - Mary Chapin CarpenterEp 16 - Rodney CrowellPhilip GlassByron IsaacsChris MastersonNico MuhlyRachel PortmanAudley FreedLilly WinwoodClick here to watch this conversation on YouTube.Social Media:The Other 22 Hours InstagramThe Other 22 Hours TikTokMichaela Anne InstagramAaron Shafer-Haiss InstagramAll music written, performed, and produced by Aaron Shafer-Haiss. Side A scored really highly, but can Three Snakes and One Charm do enough on Side B to crack the top ten? We're taking a whole bunch of different sonic paths again as the Black Crowes put us through our paces. But will Corey dig the hippy vibes on How Much for Your Wings? Will Kev have anything to say about a distinctly familiar lick in Better When You're Not Alone? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and bring on this flowering!Songs covered in this episode: "(Only) Halfway to Everywhere", "Bring On, Bring On", "How Much for Your Wings?", "Let Me Share the Ride", "Better When You're Not Alone", "Evil Eye"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSE Hosted on Acast.
