(but thanks for that quote anyway). Hosted by Klein, Ally, and a cast of weirdos (both on the team and from their audience), the show is known for its raw, offbeat style, offering a mix of sarcastic banter, candid interviews, and an unfiltered take on everything from culture to the chaos of everyday life. With a loyal, engaged fanbase and an addiction for pushing boundaries, the show delivers the perfect blend of humor and insight, all while keeping things fun, fresh, and sometimes a little bit illegal. 2024 © 2021 Audacy, Inc. An in depth and irreverent look at 90's TV classic Dawson's Creek hosted by Kathryn and Katie. This episode we are recording in person, accidentally groping each other and getting annoyed by CJ and the endless No Doubt promotion in Wooo-sterrrr. The whole gang are back together (kind of) and enjoying a Hella Good concert (kind of). We're chatting Todd's love of sleep (feeling you, Todd, though not literally), our ongoing horror at Natasha's cardigan, amazing feats of counting that have never been seen before and how completely creeped out we are by CJ (so, so bad, eeekkk). So grab your tickets (just remember them, people) and try to get through a simple gig with absolutely NO DRAMA (lol). You know you love it underneath it all, shagwit! Jay and Clifton battle fatigue, confusion, and surprisingly funky bass lines as they revisit Petra's 14th studio album, No Doubt.
If you look at their musical journey, it might appear that SoCal pop/punk/rapcore outfit Zebrahead have led somewhat of a charmed life. From their very inception through meeting at a practice room to playing to a handful of people, where 12 of them were scouting from record labels, a sceptical person could claim things have fallen into place for the band. But if you know the band and know their music, you would know that while luck - in any incarnation - is always welcome, there is one core ingredient of Zebrahead's collective musical psyche that has had more influence on their trajectory than anything else.Fun with a sense of humour. Listening to co-founding member and vocalist Ali Tabatabaee run through Zebrahead's history, the one common thread is their ability to laugh in the face of potential adversity and brush any setbacks off with a shrug of the shoulders and the knowledge of what to do better next time.Their musical style is offbeat and eclectic, mixing a fusion of pop/punk with hip hop and punk sensibilities to create an ever-evolving and expansive sonic universe that is as endless as it is unique. But there is one factor that has been essential to the continued growth of Zebrahead, and that is their live performances. Known and loved for their energetic output and on-stage banter, Zebrahead bridge the gap between intensity and frivolity with boundless energy, approaching each gig like a party with new best friends that just haven't been met yet. This October, after seven long years, Australian fans get to witness this first hand when Zebrahead make their triumphant return for five shows starting in Perth on October 7. Having heard the hype but never speaking with the band, HEAVY jumped at the chance to spend some quality time with Ali, and we're glad we did! We started by asking what has changed with Zebrahead in the seven years since their last visit."Man, I feel like the main thing is Adrian (Estrella) is in the band now," he replied. "He's the other vocalist. We haven't been back since before the pandemic, dude, so it's been a minute. We have released three EPs since then - III, II, I - with Adrian, and we're going to be playing some of those songs when we come over. But also when we're not touring, we've been working on new music. So we're excited to get back home after Australia and get into the studio and record the songs that we've been working on. So that's mainly it, man. And then once that's done, hopefully next summer, start touring again."Talk later turns to the early days of Zebrahead and the musical climate that spawned the band."Man, at that time, Orange County was kind of popping off," he recalled. "You know, we had bands like Offspring. We had bands like No Doubt that were doing really well, so the record labels were really focused on Orange County. We actually got very lucky because of that. Our first show we played this Christmas show, and it was just our girlfriends and the guy who ran the club who gave us the show. He'd never heard of us. He came in to get the money from the cash register or something, and he heard a song. Then after we were done, nobody was there. It was empty. And he goes, 'Hey, I have a friend who's a manager, and you guys are interesting because you have hip hop and punk and stuff. I kind of want him to come and watch you play. Is that something you'd be into?' And we're like, sure, of course, who's gonna say no?"In the full interview, Ali talks more about the Australian tour and what to expect, their energetic live shows and how they will translate to our crowds, having Thomas Nicolas Band as national support, plus the early days of Zebrahead and where they fit in.We talked about Zebrahead getting signed and how their career grew from there, the blending of genres in their music and how they came about, musical experimentalisation and how they regulate it, future music and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

In which The Curmudgeons continue their exploration of all the cool and revolutionary sounds blasting out of the City of Angels in the 1990s. By 1995, the music world had been grungified, making things safer, brighter and lovelier for not only hard-rock artists, but folks of the more soul-breaking, confessional variety. And that L.A. satisfied both ends of that spectrum between 1995 and 1999. Rage Against the Machine, Tool, System of a Down and Kyuss all blasted down doors and melted minds. Meanwhile, Beck, eels and Los Lobos soothed the more sensitive souls. We take a run through work by those artists and more on this episode. We begin this episode, though, by discussing the legacies of two recently departed icons, Ozzy Osbourne and Hulk Hogan. Enjoy the music that came out of Los Angeles during the latter half of the 1990s by accessing our special Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7KHCvbSIZv6lqVOLW88yTw?si=1f93bf2fb25a48a4 Here's a handy navigation companion to this episode. Episode 81: Kevin Lyman. The Vans Warped Tour is the longest-running touring music festival in North America, drawing over 750,000 fans every summer at its peak. And it all started with one guy — Kevin Lyman. In this episode, we sit down in person with the man who turned parking lots into punk rock playgrounds, helped break some of the biggest names in music, and built a generation-defining cultural movement. Warped Tour was the first concert I ever went to at 13 years old, and a few years later, I was lucky enough to play the tour multiple times, including full runs, and again in 2010 with Skrillex. It was a big contributor in shaping my life. In this conversation, I finally got to ask Kevin everything I've wanted to know for years. We dive deep into: - How Kevin started Warped Tour from scratch - How he landed the sponsorship deal with Vans - The behind-the-scenes details that kept it running for 24 years - How he gave stages to artists like Sublime, No Doubt, Blink-182, Eminem, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Paramore, Deftones, Katy Perry, The Used, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, Sugar Ray, and MXPX - How legends like NOFX, Bad Religion, Rancid, Pennywise, and Less Than Jake helped anchor the tour - Why set times changed daily, were never announced in advance, and who set them - Working with Sublime, what Brad Nowell was like, and how Brad's death led Kevin to focus on helping people with recovery - Kevin's personal mission, values, and work ethic behind it all This 90-minute deep dive is the ultimate Warped Tour tell-all. We recorded it right after the first Warped Tour returned in Washington D.C. in July 2025 — with Long Beach and Florida still to come. Kevin Lyman is a punk rock pioneer, a cultural architect, and one of the most influential figures in live music. I'm honored to share this one with you. Here's my conversation with the amazing Kevin Lyman. We then look at longtime Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione is stepping down, which raises some uncertainty for Brent Venables and the Sooners. We then look at South Carolina, Florida, Illinois and more potential first-time College Football Playoff teams, as well as assessing the job security of every SEC head coach. We finish with a deep look at Colorado and LSU's seasons and whether they'll hit over or under their win total, all before finishing by comparing No Doubt songs to CFB personalities.
Carrie writes “It's taken me almost 3 years to write this email. I've tried a few times over the years but convinced myself that you probably won't contact me so I just deleted the other emails. But I have an encounter that happened to me when I was 20 and the details of what I seen will stick with me for the rest of my life! Long story (extremely short:) Me and my x boyfriend was at the boat ramp on Quintette River in Escambia Florida at dusk. The sun was still up enough we could see good but it was starting to set. This was around the beginning of summer as I remember sitting at the ramp on shorts. We was killing time until we went back to his house. We was there an hour maybe a little more before we heard a HUGE splash from across the river, which is a decent size river. Before the splash, there was dead silence.. Across from the ramp it's nothing but woods and forest for miles. I thought a bear or alligator jumped into the river and was swimming to us so we ran to my truck that was parked at the edge of the ramp. I turned on my headlights so we could see clearly and the creature was already halfway across the river! It was RUNNING NOT SWIMMING with it's hands over it's head almost like an over hand swimming motion but he never went deeper than his chest. The way he was able to cross a river that deep and swift as fast as he did was mind-blowing and I almost couldn't comprehend it at the time. I was frozen in fear when it got to the end of the ramp, I expected it to keep coming up the ramp but instead it pulled it's self up on the DOCK and it stared at us, eyes wide teeth showing. I can describe everything from every wrinkle in his face, his devilish eyes, nails, arms, chest EVERYTHING! The ramp is over 4 foot wide and his chest was as big of not a little bigger then the width of the ramp! It started climbing up the end of the ramp, after I got a good look at everything, I backed up and turned the truck around as fast as I could and got out of there. Years later there are STILL finger nail marks on that ramp where it pulled itself up! Since then I have met my current Boyfriend (he has his own encounter where he was chased by one a couple years before we met) and we love to go out riding at dusk to dawn throughout the night in the forest looking to see what we can come across. We love all animals and how beautiful the night sky is. We stay alert and because of that we have a few different times and I have a couple daytime pictures of different things that happened but none as clear as the time I was less than 15 foot from one. I have more details regarding his face, color and everything from when it came across the river at me but it would take a long time to explain in an email. I truly hope you reach out to me! I would love to tell my encounter and describe in detail every thing I seen as he stared me down in the few minutes before I could drive away. No doubt he was coming to kill us, he was very evil, his eyes dark and teeth showing!”
