(Originally recorded 02.19.25) We came into this one with a plan. We really did. Our goal was to talk about all of the recent SNL50 programming. We are both long time SNL fans and revisiting the show's history and its importance to us seemed like a good fit. We eventually got to it and reminisced in our own unique, meandering way. We also talked about: How damned cold it is Flash tattoos for the family .38 Special Stephe's adventures at the cinema A preview of Brave New World Rosencrantz and Guildenstern The Rock - Dwayne or Sean? We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. What better way to kick things off than where it all began? Here's a look back at episode one and our conversation with Jim Peterik. ABOUT JIM PETERIKSinger, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist Jim Peterik is best known as a founding member of the band Survivor and the co-writer of their Grammy-winning double platinum #1 hit single, “Eye of the Tiger.” But that's only the tip of the iceberg. Thirty-five of Jim's songs have appeared on the Billboard Pop chart, including seven Top 10 singles. His first major success came when his original band, Ides of March, took the Peterik-penned “Vehicle” to the #2 position on the Pop chart in 1970, spawning cover versions by Chet Baker and Shirley Bassey. After a stint as a solo artist with Epic Records, Jim formed Survivor in 1979, penning a string of hits for the band, including “I Can't Hold Back,” “High On You,” “The Search is Over,” “Burning Heart,” and “Is This Love.” While still writing hits for his own group, Jim forged a successful partnership with the members of 38 Special, co-writing classic songs, including “Rockin' Into the Night,” “Hold On Loosely,” and “Caught Up In You.” Widely respected as a top-notch collaborator, Jim has co-written successful songs with a number of artists, including the Beach Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sammy Hagar, Cheap Trick, the Doobie Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Mindi Abair. The long list of those who have covered his compositions includes Paul Anka, Gloria Gaynor, Tony Orlando, Reba McEntire, Larry Gatlin, Blackhawk, and The Outlaws. He is the co-author, with Dave Austin, of Songwriting for Dummies.

Iconic Southern Rock brothers Donnie and Johnny Van Zant reunite as VAN ZANT to release their first ever Christian album sharing about their faith that has been a constant thread throughout their lives. Collectively they have sold over 50 million records, from Johnny's work as the lead vocalist of Lynyrd Skynyrd to Donnie's success with 38 Special, and older brother Ronnie's posthumous legacy with Skynyrd as a founding member, they share how they balance honoring the past with creating fresh sounds in their first ever Jesus record titled "Always Look Up." The duo casually sits down with nine-time Emmy winner David Sams and shares heart-felt stories about music, legacy, and the enduring power of family bonds. #vanzant #keepthefaith #alwayslookup #thereyouare #davidsams #contagiousinfluencer

A custom 50 Browning rig really delivers the goods, perhaps the most accurate 50 BMG we've seen to date. And, can the case be made for the 38 snub? Actually, yes! We talk about "film noir" which is the name for the genre of black & white films from the 1940s and 50s showcasing the darker side of humanity... do you like this stuff as much as we do? :) And yeah, we're staring down both barrels of the LGBTQF (F is for faggot) celebration month coming up. Brace yourselves, and be ready to speak out against celebrating mental illness. :)

This week Capt. Content reminds us that something unique happened in the 90s with “Classic Rock” radio where they completely omitted any new contributions musically from the bands. In the 90's, the “Legacy Act” tag hadn't hit yet and bands were still trying to be true to themselves, but still be relevant. We're playing the Lost and Forgotten songs released during the Alternative Rock era from bands that we all know and love. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Many of the classic 60s-70s bands were still writing and delivering new musical content into the 90s. Go and check out these songs and the albums that they come from! Songs this week include:The Doobie Brothers – “Showdown” from Brotherhood (1991)Nazareth – “Steamroller” from Move Me (1994)Blue Öyster Cult – “Cool Grey Light Of Dawn” from Heaven Forbid (1998)Electric Light Orchestra Part II – “Whiskey Girls” from Moment Of Truth (1994)Foghat – “Motel Shaker” from Return Of The Boogie Men (1994)38 Special – “Deja Voodoo” from Resolution (1997)Emerson, Lake & Palmer – “Black Moon” from Black Moon (1992)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Hi everybody welcome to GIG I'm your host, Mike Redman. I grew up in the days when rock bands ruled the world and I lived in the South in Richmond, Virginia. One of my favorite Southern Rock bands was '38 Special'. Still to this day they're one of the hardest working rock bands in the country playing about 100 dates the drummer in the band is powerhouse Gary Moffat, and I'm happy to say a longtime friend of mine. When Garry plays, you can tell that he puts every fiber of his body into it. Today I'm happy to have Gary on GIG to share his thoughts about drumming, touring, soloing, and his family '38 Special'. http://garymoffatt.com/biography.aspxhttps://38special.com/Visit GIG with Mike Redman @https://www.gigwithmikeredman.com/podcastsEmail me questions, guests you would like to see @ : gigwithmikeredman@gmail.comThanks for listening !Mike Redman
