Ep 260 “The CottageCore AR-15” – National Gun Violence Awareness Month (Bullet Poof Bulletins) Celebrating the launch of eco-fiction anti-gun novella Bullet Poof and National Gun Violence Awareness Month, Avis Kalfsbeek brings back beloved Kitty O'Compost with the Bullet Poof Bulletins. Tonight on the Spoke-Easy stage, Kitty O'Compost deconstructs a truly bizarre update from the suburban backyard horticultural circuit. This bulletin satirizes an absolute logistical stir on Magnolia Lane, where a resident attempted a social experiment by bringing a highly customized rifle platform—the CottageCore AR-15—to a neighborhood garden club meeting. Refinished in matte sage green with hand-painted floral engravings and a custom tweed shoulder strap, the weapon was placed right next to heirloom tomato seedlings in an effort to launder an industry of fear by wrapping it in a cozy Pinterest aesthetic. Inspired by the grounding, collaborative themes of Bullet Poof, this episode laughs at this astonishing piece of self-delusion and reminds us that true safety is found when we stop investing in the profit of pain and start building relaxed community connection. Resources: Bullet Poof is a hopeful eco-fiction novella about what happens when ordinary people refuse to accept the gun status quo. Tonight on the Spoke-Easy stage, Kitty O'Compost breaks down a leaked corporate rebranding strategy that attempts to launder military hardware with a rustic aesthetic. This bulletin satirizes the weapon industry's use of heritage marketing and walnut wood paneling to rebrand tactical platforms as "wholesome, organic Americana." Inspired by the grounding, transformative themes of Bullet Poof, this episode laughs at the corporate attempt to camouflage violence with artisanal style and points us back to the real heritage found in creative community spaces. HEAVY Music Interviews
A Life Outta Control With DAVID And MICHELLE From CRISPY DANGER

HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersCrispy Danger isn't just another new band. Formed in Birmingham in 2025 at the Back to the Beginning Festival, and residing in Melbourne, Crispy Danger's soul comes from a heavy metal heritage, yet their music combines riff driven rock with catchy pop sensibilities and hard hitting lyrics, carving out a genre unique to themselves.Fronted by brother/sister duo of David Rex - vocals, guitars and Michelle Maxx - bass, Crispy Danger is completed by Frankie Demuru on drums. With all three sharing a love of different musical genres the resulting sonic impact is confronting, eclectic and... fun.Their debut single Outta Control is a catchy blend of rock, metal, and dark wave, best described as “heavy metal disco”. The single features a killer bass groove, raspy spoken verses and catchy sung choruses all set to disco beats and hip-hop inspired rhythms, with Crispy Danger promising this is only the tip of the iceberg.HEAVY sat down with siblings David and Michelle to find out more."It's it's an interesting track," David measured. "We went for something a little different sounding I think to a lot of bands, going for vocals that are almost spoken, almost rapped, and then the choruses just kick out to a proper heavy metal sung chorus. It's quite catchy."Outta Control is the musical equivelant of just that, with a lot going on within that one song musically. Crispy Danger bounce dip their toes into funk plus there's some pop sensibilities and heavy riffs, guitar solos and a hell of a lot of groove, begging the question of where did it come from and how difficult is it to get the balance right?"I think the most important thing with a song like that is not to go overboard with each part," David replied. "If you actually listen to it there's only a few instruments playing at each time. Then the whole band sort of kicks in. And then when the verse starts, it is just bass, drums, vocals. There is nothing else. It lets the vocals set forward and then it kicks up a notch for the chorus with the whole band kicking back in.""And it kind of builds up," Michelle added. In the full interview, David and Michelle go deeper into Outta Control, describing the track as groove-driven with spoken/rap-style verses and heavy sung choruses, characterizing their sound as "heavy metal disco". They explained why the recording took place in Melbourne and the mix was done in Los Angeles by Chris Lord‑Alge, citing Lord-Alge's track record with established artists such as Green Day, My Chemical Romance and Rise Against. We spoke about why this song was chosen to introduce Crispy Danger to the world and if it is an accurate snapshot of what to expect from future releases. The accompanying music video was mentioned, with the band running us through the old school style and approach to most things they do, and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Welcome to your daily comedy podcast, where absolutely nothing makes sense and we like it that way.Today's show kicks off with a story that nobody asked for but everyone will remember forever: a 73-year-old former born-again Christian reinventing herself as an escort named Busty Granny. She spent decades in prayer and celibacy, then hit 57, downloaded the internet, and said “oh… THIS is what we've been missing.” Now she's got clients young enough to still have homework and zero interest in OnlyFans because, quote, that sounds boring. Inspirational? Traumatizing? Both. Then we get into the most depressing career math of all time: a woman casually sings seven words into her phone for a Dr Pepper jingle and walks away with $2 million, while the rest of us are out here working full-time jobs and eating gas-station sandwiches. Naturally, this leads to the crew trying to invent jingles for every brand that will absolutely never call back.Somehow that spirals into one of the most fun debates we've had in a while — the biggest debut albums of all time. We're talking massive numbers, MTV miracles, and how one 4am spin turned a “failed” album into a 50-million-copy monster. Along the way we argue, forget basic facts, remember them loudly, and realize radio used to be way more powerful than TikTok will ever admit.Movies get dragged (respectfully… mostly), Brendan Fraser gets the comeback love he deserves, and we debate whether seeing a movie in a theater automatically adds two letter grades just because popcorn exists. In Crap on Celebrities, we hit everything from band lawsuits and surprise documentaries to tour dropouts, concert ticket chaos, and some genuinely heartbreaking but honest conversations about aging, memory, and how terrifying it is to not know what's happening inside your own brain. We also celebrate birthdays, overshare existential dread, and somehow end the show discussing a literal geyser of poop water blasting into the Potomac River — because if we're going to spiral, we're doing it together. It's another daily comedy podcast episode packed with weird news, pop culture, dark laughs, and moments where we all pause and go, “Wait… are we okay?”Spoiler: probably not. But at least we're funny.MUSICMotley Crue has officially won its heated legal battle against former guitarist Mick Mars. Lainey Wilson sure has kept herself busy. It was just announced that Netflix has officially acquired the new documentary "Lainey Wilson: Keepin' Country Cool". It drops on April 22nd. Two more artists have dropped out of the 2026 Rock the Country Festival. Morgan Wade and Carter Faith are no longer part of the lineup. And neither artist has shared an official reason for stepping away. Their exit comes just days after Ludacris also dropped out. His team called his original booking a "mix-up." The festival is headlined by Kid Rock and will feature Jason Aldean, Jelly Roll, Miranda Lambert, and more.In other Kid Rock News – he went to Congress to confront an issue we're all united on: How much Ticketmaster and Live Nation charge for shows. Quick Hits:Post Malone, Andrew Watt, Chad Smith, Duff McKagan, and Slash will perform a special tribute to Ozzy Osbourne during the Grammys on Sunday night.Jack White posted a video showing off the next Third Man Vault package, Jimi Hendrix's Valley of the Jams 1969-1970. Check it out on Instagram.Tom Morello and Rise Against will headline A Concert of Solidarity & Resistance to Defend Minnesota Friday at noon at First Avenue in Minneapolis. TVThe fourth season of Ted Lasso is set to debut this summer. Stephen Colbert announced on "Late Night With Seth Meyers" that the final episode of "The Late Show" will air on Thursday, May 21. MOVING ON INTO MOVIE NEWS:Matthew Lillard recently caught a stray from Quentin Tarantino when he said he didn't care for him. But that resulted in an outpouring of love that made Matthew feel like he was living through his own wake. Actress and producer Patricia Schneider has filed for divorce from Rob Schneider, describing their 15-year marriage as "irretrievably broken" with no chance of reconciliation. Bill Cosby has admitted under oath that he obtained prescriptions for Quaaludes specifically to give to women. Bruce Willis' wife, Emma says Bruce is unaware of his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.AND FINALLYHere are five of the BEST:1. Jack Black: "I was begging my boss for an extra shift, he overheard and tipped me $100 on a $20ish tab. From then on, he never left me less than a $50 tip and would always check in with me when it was the end of the month to make sure I had rent cash."2. Harrison Ford: "My uncle said that he's incredibly nice and took the whole crew out for lunch to thank them for working on his helicopter."3. Justin Bieber: "He was by himself at a mall, and he wasn't trying to be incognito . . . He drew me in with a big hug and chatted me up. He was lovely."4. John Travolta: "The guy is totally down to earth . . . He is also someone who asks a lot of questions and is actually interested in what you have to say."5. Dolly Parton: "Can confirm that she's just as great as you'd assume. She was just so nice to everyone. She was a lot smaller than I expected."Here are five of the WORST:1. Jennifer Lopez: "She was super rude and dismissive . . . and had this attitude that she was better than you."2. Jenna Fischer from "The Office": "[She] was really difficult to work with. Just really demanding."3. Jared Leto: "[He's] a narcissistic [A-hole]. He complains about every single thing and really enjoys being difficult. I think he does it for fun."4. Diana Ross: "[She] cut in front of me at the airport check-in counter once . . . I was flabbergasted by this lady who had the guts to sweep in front of us AND touch the gate agent's computer."5. John Cusack: "Outside of a restaurant: 'Hey, Mr. Cusack, I like your movies.' . . . 'I don't care.'"AND THAT IS YOUR CRAP ON CELEBRITIES! Also, they talk about Lil Nas X and his drug fueled stroll down the streets of L.A. in nothing but "tighty-whities" and cowboy boots. JJO's Discover New Music Podcast

They got new muscles and they're flexing them! This week's guest on Discover New Music is Tim McIlrath of Rise Against. It's big number 10 for the band with their newest release "Ricochet." With a new production team at the helm, Tim and the rest of the band wanted to make a Rise Against record that didn't sound like Rise Against, but people would still know that it's Rise Against...which can be a daunting task...however, the band was up for it and, according to Tim, made exactly that and it sounds AWESOME. Plus Tim reflects on what his 2001 self would think about 2025 Tim and the new music he just put out. As always Rapid Fire is played with fancy grilled cheese!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

YoutubeFacebookXInstagramBioNORTHERN KENTUCKY – Orchid in the Ivy, the hard-hitting alternative rock triofronted by Brett Scharf, is turning heads with the re-release of their fiery, pop-punkrendition of “Beds Are Burning.” Originally recorded some time ago, the band recentlyremixed and relaunched the track to pave the way for their upcoming five-songEP—proving that rock is far from dead and Scharf's creative fire is still blazing.“We did a new mix,” says Scharf of the Midnight Oil classic. “We kinda did it a whileago, and we basically did a whole remix... people will maybe recognize it a little bit andthen kinda get your feet wet again with it—and then go with the five song EP after that.”The result? A faster, sharper, and more aggressive version of the politically chargedanthem—reborn through Orchid in the Ivy's melodic punk-rock lens. “I always thought ithad a great groove to it,” Scharf explains. “I was messing around with it one day andjust thought, ‘God, if we sped this up, this would be more like almost a punk rock tune.' Idon't think they realized how kind of heavy and punk rock that song could actually be.”For Scharf, who once toured alongside now-household names like Fall Out Boy andMotion City Soundtrack in his early band Spindle, Orchid in the Ivy represents a rebirth. After years of navigating the ups and downs of multiple projects, including RosemaryDevice, Scharf stepped into the role of lead singer “more out of necessity than anythingelse.” That unplanned shift uncovered a sound—and voice—that finally felt right.“I put some vocals down on a couple songs and asked my drummer what he thought. He liked it, and we just kept going forward that way,” says Scharf.Since forming in 2013, Orchid in the Ivy has remained fiercely self-sufficient. The bandrecords everything at Scharf's own studio, allowing them the space to experiment andevolve. “We were trying to really find out our sound,” Scharf says. “I think in the last fiveor six years, we really found our voice.”That voice blends the emotional punch of Brand New's The Devil and God Are RagingInside Me with the melodic grit of Alkaline Trio's Crimson and the urgency of RiseAgainst. The upcoming EP, while not including “Beds Are Burning,” follows hot on itsheels, with singles set to roll out every six to eight weeks.“There's a little more emotion involved in this one,” Scharf notes of the new material.“The stuff I've been writing for this EP—and even the next one—is just a little morepersonal. With everything going on in the world, it just seems like a chaotic time.”Though Scharf's journey has spanned decades and many stages, his passion hasnever faded. “The older I got, the better the writing got,” he says. “There's always beenthat inspiration of finding new music, being creative. That's always been a passion ofmine.”And for fans of raw, heartfelt rock music, the message is clear. “Rock's not dead,”Scharf insists. “I hope we can burst through the scene and break some barriers again. There's still a huge audience out there—and just because major labels aren't signing it,doesn't mean they're not there. That's what rock has always been about: breaking downbarriers.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

This week we celebrate bands that can re-imagine their songs with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air… guitars! Electric artists have been playing acoustically since the beginning of recorded music. Most songwriters start the process with an acoustic instrument and capturing the sound of a song on just wire and wood has a vulnerable, human feel to it. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the FORGOTTEN. Mtv started a series in 1989 called “unplugged”, and almost every mainstream relevant act started producing acoustic albums or versions of their songs. This week we listen to some artist that you may have never considered as having acoustic interpretations of their songs.Songs this week include:The Gems – “Like A Phoenix (Acoustic Version)” from Phoenix (2024)Cicadstone – “Burn Your Name (Acoustic)” from Future Echoes (Acoustic EP) (2024)Dokken – “In My Dreams” from One Live Night (1996) Rise Against – “Swing Life Away” from Punk Goes Acoustic (2003)Twelve Foot Ninja – “Kingdom (Acoustic)” from Mutant Dreams And Face Transplants: An Acoustic Experience (2024)Joey Eppard – “Dregs” from Joey Eppard Live In Concert (2013)Megadeth – “Symphony Of Destruction (Acoustic Live)” from Unplugged In Boston (Live 2001) (2001)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it: InObscuria StoreCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
