In this episode, Eric talks with Jillaine Heather, Chief Executive of the Free Speech Union, about the Government's plans for an under-16 social media ban and the universal age verification that may come with it. They examine why the Department of Internal Affairs appears to be building delivery machinery ahead of any legislation, what Australia and the UK reveal about compliance and scope creep, and why policy aimed at online harms could create serious risks for privacy and free speech.
James Mangold's Cop Land Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro, and Sylvester Stallone in one of the most highly-anticipated films of the 1990s . . . Springing from the headlines of the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and today, James Mangold's 1997 police corruption drama was released to critical acclaim and tepid box-office. In an era of 90s Independent filmmaking, focusing on newspaper/magazine headlines and evening newscasts, Mangold would write and pitch a story (ostensibly a Western) set in modern day life. The reluctant hero, Sheriff Freddy Heflin (an overweight, tired, and sad Stallone), who is neither the Rocky or Rambo hero Stallone is known for, fighting the corruption of an all-star cast of big-city police living outside of the city in a mob financed town. Stallone versus Keitel, Robert Patrick, Peter Berg and John Spencer, with a cocaine-addled Ray Liotta as back-up, and a disheveled, angry, and calculating Internal Affairs officer played by DeNiro manipulating the scene, Mangold's second film - with obvious comparisons to Scorsese - stands out as an brutal and honest look at police corruption and those wiling to stand up against it. Marlon Marrache spent 24 years with the LAPD — including time working the division that investigates its own officers. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Marlon pulls back the curtain on what Internal Affairs actually does, how the process really works from complaint to outcome, and why it looks nothing like what you've seen on TV. He gets into the lies, the cover-ups, the code of silence, and what actually happens to officers when misconduct is proven — giving an insider look at one of the most secretive divisions in American law enforcement. _____________________________________________ #LAPD #InternalAffairs #TrueCrime _____________________________________________ Connect with Marlon Marrache: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/themarracheshow/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTkpEPUwRpbaMMLb1saX9zA _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Shop Locked In Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 LAPD Internal Affairs — Marlon's Story and the Secrets He's Sharing 02:22 Growing Up as an Immigrant and How It Shaped His Path to the LAPD 07:07 How Sports the Navy and a Late Start Led Him to Law Enforcement 13:01 The LAPD Culture Scandals and Internal Corruption Nobody Talks About 21:49 How Social Media Destroyed the LAPD's Ability to Hide the Truth 23:44 His Early Patrol Years and How the Role of Cops Changed Around Him 34:46 The Trauma Loneliness and Coping Mechanisms That Define Long Careers 40:45 How and Why He Moved Into Internal Affairs — The Decision That Changed Everything 47:40 The Real Reputation of Internal Affairs vs What It's Actually Like Inside 53:41 His First Internal Affairs Case — How Hard It Really Is to Investigate Your Own 01:02:59 The Challenge of Proving False Statements Against Fellow Officers 01:10:52 False Statements Perjury and the Policy Violations That Destroy Careers 01:20:32 Bad Hires Rogue Officers and Who Is Really Responsible for Accountability 01:25:04 What Actually Happens to Corrupt Cops — Resignations Pensions and Consequences 01:30:08 Inside the Psychology and Process of a Real Internal Affairs Investigation 01:34:01 The Most Common Complaints Against LAPD Officers and What the Public Gets Wrong 01:42:28 Did Internal Affairs Destroy His Friendships — The Personal Cost of Doing the Right Thing 01:47:06 The Career Lessons That Only Come From Investigating Your Own Department 02:05:51 Purpose Empathy and What He Really Wants People to Know About Police Work _____________________________________________ To advertise on the show, contact sales@advertisecast.com or visit https://advertising.libsyn.com/LockedInWithIanBicka Learn more about your ad choices. Steven Lee rose to the rank of sergeant in the NYPD before everything collapsed. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Steven breaks down one of the most dangerous things a cop can do — go undercover against his own department for Internal Affairs — and what the system did to him afterward. Years later an off duty incident at a nightclub ended his career and landed him on Rikers Island. He opens up about what it's really like being a former cop behind bars, the corruption he witnessed and exposed, and the true cost of speaking out against your own brothers in blue. _____________________________________________ #NYPD #PoliceCOrruption #rikersisland _____________________________________________ Thank you to RAYCON for sponsoring this episode: The Everyday Earbuds Classic are the perfect addition to your everyday routine. Early in his journey as a Southern California police cadet, Putnam faced a deeply personal tragedy that would leave lasting emotional scars and shape the man he would become. His family was shattered when his aunt, who had been involved in heroin trafficking, orchestrated the murder-for-hire of his own uncle through a contract killer. It was a shocking crime that exposed Putnam to the darkest sides of both family dysfunction and criminal behavior before his police career had even fully begun. That traumatic chapter would become one of many defining moments in a life marked by violence, service, and resilience. Supporting articles about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin. David Putnam's story, shared through the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast interview on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other Podcast platforms, is one that combines personal tragedy, extraordinary law enforcement service, and literary success. His journey from the streets of Southern California to the islands of Hawaii reveals a remarkable career as both a Cop and later an award-winning author whose books draw heavily from his real-life experiences. Murder for Hire During His Police Career In California. As a young cadet in California, Putnam was forced to grapple with the bizarre and devastating reality that murder had struck within his own family. The contract killing of his uncle was not just another crime, it was deeply personal. “When violence enters your own family, it changes the way you look at everything,” Putnam reflects. The murder-for-hire case revealed the devastating intersection of addiction, greed, and betrayal, leaving emotional wounds that would influence his perspective on justice and policing for decades to come. Today, his story is inspiring audiences through the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Apple, Spotify, iHeartradio and and many Podcast platforms. Despite that early trauma, Putnam pressed forward into law enforcement, building a highly respected career that spanned some of the most dangerous and specialized assignments in policing. Working primarily in Southern California, Putnam served in Patrol, Investigations, SWAT, Narcotics, Violent Crimes, Criminal Intelligence, Internal Affairs, and Detective Bureau operations. His experience on both street-level and major narcotics teams exposed him to the brutal realities of organized crime, drug trafficking, and violent offenders. Through these assignments, Putnam became known not only for his tactical expertise but for his unwavering dedication to public safety. The episode is available across major platforms including their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, with highlights shared across their Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn profiles. “Policing in California taught me that crime is rarely simple,” Putnam explains. “Behind every major case is a web of human pain, poor choices, and consequences.” His diverse career placed him at the center of some of the most challenging and dangerous criminal investigations imaginable, sharpening his instincts and deepening his understanding of criminal behavior. Murder for Hire During His Police Career In California. Available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and most major Podcast networks. Later, Putnam expanded his law enforcement career to Hawaii, where he served as a Special Agent on a real-life “Hawaii 5-0” team. Unlike the fictional television portrayal, Putnam's Hawaiian assignment involved real criminal investigations, intelligence work, and high-stakes operations in one of the nation's most unique law enforcement environments. “Hawaii brought its own challenges,” he says. “It may look like paradise, but crime and danger don't disappear because of beautiful scenery.” His work in Hawaii rounded out an already extraordinary career that few officers could match. After retiring from active duty, Putnam transformed his decades of law enforcement experience into a new mission, writing. Today, he is a best-selling and award-winning novelist, known for series such as Bruno Johnson, Dave Beckett, Bone Detective, and Misadventures of Imogene Taylor. His books are deeply influenced by the realities of crime, trauma, and justice he experienced firsthand. Through his writing, Putnam continues to explore the psychological complexities of criminals, investigators, and the toll violence takes on everyone it touches. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. “Writing became another form of service,” Putnam explains. “It allows me to tell authentic stories about crime, survival, and humanity.” His novels resonate because they are grounded in real experiences rather than fictionalized stereotypes. Readers are drawn not only to his gripping plots but to the emotional depth that comes from a lifetime spent confronting real violence. Murder for Hire During His Police Career In California. Now living in California with his wife, their dogs, and an organic avocado farm, Putnam has built a quieter life far removed from the dangers of SWAT raids and violent crime scenes. Yet his past continues to inform both his storytelling and his perspective on perseverance. His life serves as a powerful example of how trauma, whether from family betrayal or a demanding police career, can be transformed into purpose. You can listen to the complete interview for free on our website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and most major podcast platforms. David Putnam's journey is one of extraordinary contrasts: family murder, contract killers, narcotics investigations, Southern California policing, real Hawaii 5-0 service, and literary success. His story offers audiences a rare and compelling look into the realities of crime, law enforcement, and survival, both on the streets and within one's own family. With the Unit and Liv in some serious transitional waters, IAB Lieutenant Ed Tucker comes in and muddies those waters up something fierce as he draws Liv's new roommate/boyfriend Brian Cassidy into an undercover sting for the Rat Squad to earn him a gold star and re-entry to the hallowed halls of the proper NYPD. Of course, this being the Warren Leight years, Benson and her relationship are put through the ringer, as the 12th Precinct is as dirty as it gets and Cassidy gets caught up in some pretty dicey stuff with a scuzzy cop and his sad and desperate partner. There's plenty of fun to be had, as Cassidy has too many T-shirts, can't dodge a sordid sexual situation with Liv listening to the whole thing, and nearly gets killed before having his special lady friend tell him to shut his yap while cuddling.Music:Divorcio Suave - “Munchy Business”Thanks to our gracious Munchies on Patreon: Jeremy S, Jaclyn O, Amy Z, Diana R, Tony B, Drew D, Nicky R, Stuart, Jacqi B, Natalie T, Robyn S, Sean M, Jay S, Briley O, Suzanne B, Tim Y, John P, John W, Elia S, Rebecca B, Lily, Sarah L, Melsa A, Alyssa C, Johnathon M, Tiffany C, Brian B, Whitney C, Alex, Jannicke HS, Erin M, Melissa H, Olivia, Holly F, Karina H, Zak B, Karyn R, Summer S, and Matt - y'all are the best!Be a Munchie, too! As always if you liked what the boys are putting out make sure to join them weekly on Patreon for movie watchalongs and deep dives BTS with their highest level pod...Internal Affairs. https://www.patreon.com/c/TheModernApes https://www.patreon.com/c/TheModernApes https://www.patreon.com/c/TheModernApes Welcome back to another very exciting episode of The Modern Apes Podcast, with your favorite co hosts Daniel Bridge-Gadd and Tristan Bowling. This week the boys are talking "Bad Medicine, and no not the smash hit Bon Jovi song! We got some bad doctors, some would say one is arguably the worst of all time. Daniel kicks us off with the true story of how former SNL star Dana Carvey had what should have been a routine bypass surgery....but based on his unique anatomy the doctor cut the wrong valve in his heart and sent him home. Carvey showed up a week later with more chest pain and a lawyer this time. Long story short and 7.5 million dollars later Dana walked away with a clean bill of health and the doctor walked away with just a bill. Now Tristan came in with what some call next to the big H himself the most diabolical person in the German army. He is talking Josef Mengele, or as he was known in the camps as "The Angel of Death". With a weird interest in twins and people with different color eyes, lets just say stuff got hairy when the boys showed up. Listen to all of the wildness that would tank the video if I put it in the description. Enjoy and welcome to the Modern Ape Army! ACT deputy leader Brooke van Velden has announced she won't stand at the 2026 general election. She made the announcement in Parliament earlier today, surrounded by her Caucus and leader David Seymour. Van Velden will continue to serve for the rest of this term as the MP for Tamaki and in her work as Internal Affairs and Workplace Relations minister. She says she's excited for the next chapter, but it was a hard decision to step away from politics. "I also, right in my heart, feel like I want to live a bit more of life and see what other opportunities there are out there for me." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Ihor reflects on his time serving as an officer in the Soviet Union's Ministry of Interior troops. After volunteering for military service, he found himself travelling from Lviv to Lithuania to begin officer training in communications and field operations. The training program brought together recruits from across the Soviet Union and beyond communications; these troops had a wide range of responsibilities—from guarding strategic facilities to responding to hostage crises and public disturbances. This is a rare opportunity to hear the everyday realities of military service inside the Soviet security structure. The Murder of a Corrections Officer Working in Prison: The Impact. The murder of a corrections officer working in prison is one of the most dangerous realities of law enforcement. While police officers often receive public recognition for the dangers they face, correctional officers work behind prison walls where violence can erupt without warning. The Podcast is available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube and most major podcast platforms. In this podcast episode of Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, retired Federal Bureau of Prisons official Robert Sorensen joined host John Jay Wiley to discuss the tragic murder of Eric Williams, the lasting impact on officers who serve in federal prisons, and the policy changes that followed. The episode is available across major platforms including their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, with highlights shared across their Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn profiles. The Murder of Corrections Officer Eric Williams On February 25, 2013, Senior Officer Eric Williams was working inside a housing unit at United States Penitentiary, Canaan, a high-security federal prison. Available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and most major Podcast networks. During his shift, an inmate attacked him with a sharpened weapon. Officer Williams was stabbed and repeatedly struck during the assault. The Murder of a Corrections Officer Working in Prison: The Impact. He was just 34 years old. Williams had built a career in law enforcement before joining the federal prison system. He previously worked as a loss prevention officer and served as a police officer with the Jefferson Township Police Department before joining the Bureau of Prisons on September 11, 2011. Look for The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, and a sister. His name is permanently etched into the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, located on Panel 12, W-29. “Eric will never be forgotten,” Sorensen said during the interview. The Federal Murder Case The inmate responsible was indicted on June 25, 2013, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. The charges included: First-degree murder First-degree murder of a U.S. corrections officer Possession of contraband in prison In June 2017, a federal jury found the inmate guilty. Prosecutors sought the death penalty, but on July 10, 2017, the jury ultimately sentenced him to life imprisonment. The Murder of a Corrections Officer Working in Prison: The Impact. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and other podcast platforms. The Personal Impact on Federal Officers For Sorensen, the murder of Officer Williams was more than a tragic news headline. It deeply affected the officers who worked inside the prison system. “When something like that happens inside a federal prison, every officer feels it,” Sorensen explained. “It reminds you how quickly things can turn violent.” He described the reality correctional officers face every day, supervising violent offenders in a confined and unpredictable environment. “People often forget that correctional officers are police officers too,” Sorensen said. “They just work behind the walls.” You can follow him on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast Facebook, Instagram, watch the episode of the podcast interview and case breakdowns on YouTube, or listen to in-depth discussions on their website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Violence Inside America's Prisons The dangers faced by correctional officers are significant. The Murder of a Corrections Officer Working in Prison: The Impact. According to data from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the memorial walls include the names of 528 correctional officers who have died in the line of duty. The first recorded correctional officer killed in the line of duty was William Bullard, who was beaten to death during an escape attempt in 1841. Today: More than 200,000 correctional officers work in local, state, and federal facilities. They supervise approximately 1.5 million inmates nationwide. Roughly 8,000 assaults on correctional staff occur every year. In the past 30 years alone, more than 200 correctional officers have died in the line of duty, many during inmate assaults. The Murder of a Corrections Officer Working in Prison: The Impact. It is discussed across News platforms and shared on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Apple, and Spotify, where audiences continue to get their content. Recent tragedies highlight the ongoing danger, including the deaths of Jeremy Hall in 2025 and Dustin Pedigo in 2026. “The public rarely sees the danger correctional officers face every day,” Sorensen said. “But the risks are real.” Changes in Federal Prison Policies Incidents like the murder of Eric Williams have forced federal prisons to reexamine policies designed to protect staff. According to Sorensen, the tragedy sparked discussions about: Officer safety procedures Contraband control inside prisons Tactical response training Equipment and protective tools for staff “You can't eliminate the danger completely,” Sorensen said. “But you can improve training, procedures, and awareness to better protect officers.” Robert Sorensen's Career in Federal Law Enforcement Sorensen spent decades in federal law enforcement before retiring from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Listeners can find the show on the major platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube, where discussions focus on mental health, leadership, wellness, and recovery from trauma. He later served as a GS-13 Special Agent with the Office of Internal Affairs, overseeing nearly 1,000 investigations involving staff misconduct, policy compliance, and interagency coordination with agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and the Office of Inspector General. The Murder of a Corrections Officer Working in Prison: The Impact. He also held operational roles at USP Canaan, where he contributed to crisis management and tactical training programs adopted throughout the region. Today, Sorensen serves as Director of Strategic Partnerships and Agency Liaison for SoRite, helping develop practical safety solutions for corrections and law enforcement professionals. “Training and preparation are everything,” Sorensen said. “You have to give officers the tools and knowledge they need to survive the job.” Honoring the Sacrifice The story of Eric Williams serves as a reminder that law enforcement service extends far beyond patrol cars and city streets. You can find the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn, as well as read companion articles and updates on Medium, Blogspot, YouTube, and even IMDB. Correctional officers stand on the front lines of the criminal justice system, often in environments that are isolated from public view. The Murder of a Corrections Officer Working in Prison: The Impact. “These officers deserve recognition and respect,” Sorensen said. “They put their lives on the line every day to keep the public safe.” For those who serve behind the walls, the memory of fallen officers like Eric Williams continues to shape how federal prisons train, prepare, and protect their staff. And as Sorensen emphasized during the podcast, the lessons learned from tragedies like this must never be forgotten. Tonight, on The Panel, Wallace Chapman is joined by panellists Heather Roy and Claire Amos. First up, it turns out that MPs can claim from Internal Affairs 20 percent of their base salary for KiwiSaver. That's well above the 3 percent contribution paid out to other employees. The PSA national secretary Fleur Fitzsimons says this is a double standard. Do MPs deserve the tax payer top up? Then, people who volunteer in emergency services are not covered by ACC for mental trauma. They can't be counted as a workplace incident because they are not employees. Wendy Wright, Chief Executive of New Zealand Land Search and Rescue says it's a longstanding issue.

Homeless, rough sleepers and beggars have often been used as a shorthand by some for decline in the city centre. For some, it's evidence of the state's increasing failure to provide support people at vulnerable points in their lives; for others, the continued presence of rough sleepers being permitted is a sign of a lack of social rules. This week the government seems to have firmly fallen in with the latter. They are set to implement legislation that would empower police to implement ‘move on' orders, which, if issued, would require you to vacate public areas or face up to $2,000 in fines or 3 months in prison. The move has garnered huge criticism with many viewing the move alongside the governments cuts to emergency housing and support services leaving people with no where to go other than prison. Another move that has flown a little under the radar has been the amalgamation of the Ministry for the Environment, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the local government functions of the Department of Internal Affairs into a single ministry. This amalgamation has alarmed critics who are concerned that the government's track record on climate and environmental policy spells ill for this new agency. For our weekly catchup with the Green Party, Wire Host Manny spoke with MP Ricardo Menéndez March about the amalgamation of key ministries into a mega ministry but began by talking about the expansion of police powers with move-on orders.
Evan and Tiki kick off the segment discussing the rules of "wearing the L" when a host or listener gets something wrong, and the confusion caused by the rewind feature on the Audacy app. Then, the guys debate a caller's theory that Juan Soto chose the Mets because the clubhouse looked "fun," with Evan arguing that money and the farm system were the only real factors. Later, the conversation shifts to fixing tanking in pro sports. Evan proposes a unique "Frozen Lottery" solution: giving all non-playoff teams equal odds for the top pick, with the catch that the pick and the player selected cannot be traded for a full year. Callers weigh in with their own ideas, including "Internal Affairs" investigations and overtime rule changes.

In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosts Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton unpack a silent but powerful burnout driver in law enforcement — perfectionism (Amazon Affiliate). From writing flawless reports… to never missing a detail… to making split-second decisions under pressure… to constantly being evaluated by body cams, supervisors, and public opinion… Police work breeds a mindset where mistakes feel unacceptable — even when they're human. And that relentless pursuit of "never good enough" slowly erodes confidence, mental health, and home life. This episode explores how perfectionism shows up in police work, why it's so damaging, and how officers can pursue excellence without destroying themselves in the process.
Aliia Roza is a former secret agent turned women's empowerment coach, public speaker, and influencer with over 1 million followers on Instagram who specialized in seduction and psychological manipulation to dismantle human and drug trafficking networks for the Russian government. Born in Karaganda, Kazakh SSR, in the former USSR to a distinguished Kazakh-Tatar military family, father Colonel Timerbulat Roza of the KGB 1st Chief Directorate (retired FSB general-lieutenant), mother Gulnara Roza daughter of Red Army Colonel Khasan Timerbulatov (Order of the Red Banner, Berlin 1945); she was rigorously trained under a state program for officers' children in martial arts and psychological conditioning, later graduating from Russia's Military Academy of Internal Affairs and earning a master's in fashion from London's Istituto Marangoni plus certification in human sexuality from Kinsey University. Selected for elite KGB-style training, Roza infiltrated criminal rings to rescue underage girls from sex trafficking; during one mission she was abducted and beaten by gang members but rescued by a target who had fallen in love with her, prompting her final operation, witness-protection status, defection from Russia, identity change, and relocation to Europe. Since 2018 an ambassador for London's Best Beginnings Charity (endorsed by the British Royal Family and personally introduced to Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III), Roza founded the Roza Club, organizing 30+ humanitarian events backed by Cartier, Rolls Royce, Damiani, Roberto Cavalli, and House of Garrard to aid underprivileged women and children in London and Paris. A 2017 Miss Asia International Beauty crowned by Sushmita Sen, she earned Forbes Woman Empowerment recognition at Cannes and Venice Film Festivals (2019, 2022) and speaks at the United Nations and World Changers Summit in Vatican City. She co-hosts the podcast To Die For with Neil Strauss, has signed with Topic Studios for a life documentary, and is writing a book exposing KGB spy techniques to help readers spot manipulation in relationships and daily life; her column “How to Dress Like a Spy” translates espionage confidence into practical fashion and self-empowerment advice for women.
