Behold the birth of the cinematic icon that is Nicolas Cage. Bask in the glory of his historic first on-screen freak-out. Witness his wondrous weirdness expertly unleashed by director Martha Coolidge, who made the most of a tiny budget, tight schedule, and tepid script to deliver a (sub-)cultural landmark by way of the Sherman Oaks Galleria. This week, Javi, Paul - and for sure, like totally, Producer Brad - pop their pastel polo collars as they venture valiantly into the strange suburban vortex of vapidity that is VALLEY GIRL. Demure Julie (Deborah Foreman) falls for pseudo-punk Randy (Cage) from the scary side of the Hollywood Hills, but when her high school social circle disdainly disapproves, she's torn between lofty love and crushing conformity. Will peer pressure prune her passion? Or will she stop the world and melt with Randy a million miles away on Electric Avenue? Whether you're in the mood for the valley or not, our hosts have got the vibe, even if their brains are bad news from that creepy clown doll. The country's largest music festival, Electric Avenue, has been bought by Live Nation. The multinational entertainment company announced the acquisition of festival producer Team Event, which owns the two-day summer festival held in Christchurch's Hagley Park each February. Promoters Association President Layton Lillas told Mike Hosking that given the tough environment festivals are facing, this is good thing for New Zealand. He says Live Nation is going to put some financial might behind the event and secure big name acts. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Colleen ‘Cosmo' Murphy walks the Guyana-born musician through his career starting with co-founding the first British multi-racial band, The Equals, to his classic album ‘Walking on Sunshine', his Top 40 hit ‘Electric Avenue' and the founding of his own genre, ringbang, with many insights and anecdotes in between.
The Garden City's reaping the benefits of this year's Electric Avenue festival. The event produced $10.5 million in visitor spend after 75 thousand people attended in February. It's believed to be the largest since the 1974 Commonwealth Games. Loren Aberhart, ChristchurchNZ General Manager of Destination and Attraction, told Mike Hosking they're looking at options for growth, as the festival had the city bursting at the seams. They're undertaking accommodation research, she says, and planning ahead for the opening of the One NZ Stadium to ensure the city has the capacity to cope with events. Send Steve a Text MessageWe explore the critical difference between perfection and progress in guitar playing, examining how perfectionist tendencies can actually stifle our musical growth while a progress-oriented mindset builds confidence and creates more enjoyable experiences.• Perfection defined as mastering something completely without flaws is often unrealistic and changes as we grow musically• The trap of perfectionism leads to spending too much time on single elements while missing the bigger musical picture• Using the example of an A chord to demonstrate the many aspects beginners focus on perfecting• Learning simple one-chord songs like "Electric Avenue" creates musical experiences even while still developing technique• Working on multiple aspects simultaneously (chord technique, theory concepts, songs) creates balanced growth• Progress builds confidence through early wins and recognizable achievements• Perfection does matter in specific contexts like recording sessions, performances, and auditions• Finding balance between technical development and musical application creates healthier long-term growthIf you've been struggling with guitar playing and feel it's time to start achieving your goals, head over to Guitar Zoom Academy. We get into the bizarre phenomenon of songs that won't leave your head. From Pump Up the Jam, Electric Avenue, and Buffalo Solider. We explored the strange ways music sticks with us and why certain tunes seem to haunt us for life. We also delved into the emotional triggers behind music. Discussing how certain melodies bring back memories or even offer healing. With plenty of bullshit about ringtones, musical nostalgia. The big question of Why Bob Marley's songs are perfect for stoners? It's a fun, musical ride that'll keep you hooked from when you light down to the roach. But, as always, we shift gears, landing on the creative process itself. We share thoughts on how music ties into memory. The odd phenomenon of "brain tunnels". And how iconic artists like Billy Joel create magic that leaves a lasting mark on listeners. With the usual bullshit and unfiltered musings, you're in for another wild ride. So roll one, hit play, and let's groove tonight! The host of American Groove is Karissa Andrews. Title: "Donald Trump's 2020 Campaign on Shaky Ground After Copyright Infringement Verdict"In the latest development that takes us back to the heart of the 2020 Presidential campaign, Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, finds himself on shaky ground. He lost a significant copyright suit over a campaign video from the 2020 election that incorporated the song "Electric Avenue."For those who may not recall, "Electric Avenue" is a 1982 song by Eddy Grant that found new life during the multi-year saga that was the 2020 Presidential campaign. Trump's campaign team, spearheaded by his then-candidate Trump, used this song in one of their promotional videos without seeking any permissions or without any licensing agreement. This action triggered a high-profile lawsuit that ended with Trump losing over copyright violation. What warrants attention in this entire episode is that the judgment was a summary one, denoting that Trump's defense fell short in convincing the judge of the propriety of the unauthorized use of the song. A summary judgment is granted when the court believes there is no substantive issue worthy of a trial. In layman terms, Trump lost this case even before it could see the light of a courtroom battle. But what does this judgment signify? It's a powerful reminder of the artist's rights in a world where digitization has made it overwhelmingly simple to copy and disseminate work, and it's a rebuke to the careless treatment of intellectual property rights.Coming to the other side of the story, how did this happen? How could the campaign of one of the most powerful men in the world commit what seems to be a rookie mistake? Enter Jack Smith, the man leading Trump's media team during the 2020 campaign. Jack Smith, a veteran campaign strategist, left no stone unturned to craft a potent media campaign that catapulted Trump into the limelight. However, the copyright infringement over "Electric Avenue" serves as a conspicuous blunder in an otherwise well-orchestrated campaign.Jack Smith, known for his meticulousness and strategy, appears to have overlooked the importance of the necessary permissions and licenses for the usage of Eddy Grant's song. This oversight brings into view a gaping hole in the campaign strategy, raising several queries about the effectiveness of Smith's role and his attention to detail. In conclusion, while the intricate circumstances that led to Donald Trump losing the copyright suit might raise an amused brow amongst legal experts, it brings to light the serious need for respect for and understanding of intellectual property rights. This case serves as an eye-opener for campaign strategists and political figures worldwide, ensuring that they do not neglect legalities in the rush of high-voltage campaigns.
