Send us a Text Message. We start this episode with the daredevil tale of Philippe Petit's legendary New York City high-wire act in 1974. Broadcasting from Levittown, New York, while Jimmy keeps things lively at Arcade 160 Studios in Atlanta, the duo ventures into lighter territory with Snoop Dogg's hilarious Olympic badminton commentary and Flavor Flav's surprising gig as the hype man for the US women's water polo team.Relive the vibrant music and cultural moments of the late 1970s as we reminisce about the era's gas shortage and The Kinks' evolution into Arena Rock stardom. Revel in the brilliance of AC/DC's "Highway to Hell". We celebrate Nick Lowe's charming hit "Cruel to Be Kind," complete with the quirky story of his wedding-day music video and culminate with a nod to Michael Jackson's transformative "Off the Wall"—the album that paved the way for the phenomenon that was "Thriller." This episode is packed with thrilling stories, memorable music, and a dash of humor that you won't want to miss!Learn Something New orRemember Something OldPlease Like and Follow our Facebook page Music In My Shoes. Arena Rock songs that people say they can do without. RIP Shelley Duvall, Which celebrity handled Hot Ones best. And celebrities that seem too good to be true. Funeral fashion sure has changed. Have you dated an idiot? And vacation dupes, cheaper trips that replicate fancy ones.
Rock and roll got really big in the 1970s. We don't mean in terms of popularity, although it had that going for it too. We mean the sounds got big. The audiences got big. The performances got big. Arena rock was loose definition for commercial, radio-friendly music designed to be played in big stadiums to tens of thousands of people with singalong choruses and huge stage productions. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame calls this era the golden age of hard rock in terms of its commercial airplay, but it also has its critics. People also call it dad rock, old wave, and corporate rock because it was music for mostly middle class white dudes powered by big corporate record labels. In this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we're going to look at both sides of the argument, talk about bands like Journey, Boston, Foreigner, Kansas, and more. Let's hit it. The classic rock-inspired outfit Rêverie recently took some time to chat with us from a recording studio in Boston. The band consists of Alec Demello (vocals), Liv Barcohana (bass), Gilliam Robles (piano/vocals), Victor Echaniz (drums), Christian Mangiameli (guitar), and Michael Forry (guitar) who met through, and are all currently attending Berklee College of Music.Christian and Victor spoke about the spectrum of influences driving the creation of their arena-rock sound with many compliments being paid to Alec who has the innate ability to channel the energy and wide-reaching registers of the likes of David Lee Roth in his heyday. Also paying homage to the incredible talent of their other bandmates during our conversation, the entire group seems equally dedicated to making Rêverie a success. Their exploration and progressive take on the classic rock genre - along with each member's stellar musicianship -sets this band apart from the others.Rêverie has just released a beautifully intense and melodic masterpiece titled “Digging My Own Grave” that fully demonstrates the group's versatility and advanced musical chops. Tune in to dive into the world of Rêverie and learn more about this band on the rise!

Happy Saturday! In a slightly abbreviated show, Joey and I discuss Racing's rough go against Houston, Loucity's win against the soon to be ex San Diego side and ... well ... probably the most disappointing loss in recent memory against the Miami team that doesn't have Messi ... as well as our top combined top X1 so far. No show next week since there would only be one match ... which should probably be postponed anyway based on the weather in Loudon County ... so enjoy you're week and we'll see you again in October! Be well, and SHARE THE LOVE!
It has been almost a decade since Tim Risser interviewed Five Finger Death Punch bassist Chris Kael for Bass Musician. As you can imagine, a lot has happened since then and I am very happy to report that Chris is rocking harder than ever with 5FDP; the band is touring and they have a new album, Afterlife. This album is tied into a Graphic Novel and is a hard-hitting, multi-media project that is definitely mind-blowing. The first two videos “Times Like This” and “Welcome to the Circus” are superbly done and have a curling edge Sci-Fi kind of feel that leaves you waiting for the next installment. Before I get carried away telling you the details, let's dive into this interview with Chris as he shares the details of his musical journey, how he gets his sound, the current and future tour plans, and more details about “Afterlife”.Cover Interview originally published in Bass Musician Magazine on March 1, 2023Sweetwater Browse 1000s of guitars and basses in stunning detail!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. What is Stadium/Arena Rock? Let's define Stadium Rock, talk about its history, identify what it sounds like, and talk about some popular bands that made it iconic. Let's see. How many of these bands' names ring a bell… Journey, KISS, Styx, Kansas, Rush, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Boston, Motley Crue, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Guns n' Roses. One or two? If you've even turned on classic rock radio, even for just a second, you've probably heard some Stadium Rock. Stadium rock is made up of just what it sounds like - bands that are popular enough to fill up a stadium, put on a hell of a show, and songs that are produced for mass appeal. On this episode Brian is joined by Jackson Colt.Jackson Colt is the essence of 80's Rock reimagined. Catchy chorus hooks, melodic riffs and shredding solos echo through from the Golden Era of the Guitar. Raised on "Old School Rock”, Jackson combines a retro-retake with a modern fresh sound that booms through the ages for all target markets. After receiving his first guitar at the age of 9 in a second-hand store, Jackson starting learning to play songs by bands such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Grand Funk Railroad and more. Jackson cites his family as his biggest influence on his Classic Rock influenced sound. Growing up with bands like Deep Purple, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Guns n' Roses playing in the house, it was easy to see what music he would write. Jackson's love for the guitar started when discovering Eddie Van Halen. Other inspirations for the guitar span from players such as David Gilmour and Slash to 80's shredders like George Lynch and Yngie Malmsteen. Jackson also has a passion for Metal music. Alexi Laiho has been another big influence of his playing as well as Jeff Loomis. For live shows, bassist Dean, drummer Matthew and rhythm guitarist Piet bring a high energy performance in reminiscence of those 80's Arena Rock bands. Each member brings their own personality to the stage, all coming from different musical backgrounds. Grinding on the underground circuit, the band learned to hone their craft. The band has also enjoyed playing the Soweto Towers on Halloween, multiple Speedo-Fests and frequent gigs with friends Black Cat Bones and Jasper Dan. After gigging relentlessly through the harsh lockdown and sharing the stage with several big names in South African Rock, Jackson Colt is currently recording his debut album with Dale Schnettler of Prime Circle. Jackson cites Dale as a big inspiration to his music career. The first concert Jackson ever attended was a Prime Circle show when he was young. There he met Dale who signed some drumsticks for Jackson and his brother. Many years later, they would meet again and work on the debut album together.Songs included in this episode:StrangersEchoesFind Jackson Colt here:https://linktr.ee/jacksoncoltrockFind CTMU here:https://linktr.ee/ConcertsthatmadeusNewsletter: https://concertsthatmadeus.aweb.page/p/f065707b-2e34-4268-8e73-94f12bd2e938If you would like to support the show you can do so by rating/reviewing us on Itunes and Spotify or by signing up at https://www.patreon.com/Concertsthatmadeus Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/concerts-that-made-us. On this episode, we look at the Who's monster-selling 1971 LP: Who's Next. Coming off the surprising success of Tommy, Pete Townsend was looking to take the "concept album" in a new direction: a full, multimedia experience where music, film, and stage would become one. The Lifehouse project (as it was known) had a backstory: a dystopian future where humans can experience life only as beings plugged into a machine, the Lifehouse. (Sound similar? The Matrix?) Attempts to record the ambitious project failed, resulting in a near breakdown for Townsend and frustration from his bandmates. Luckily producer Glyn Johns recognized the brilliance of the tunes and convinced the Who to dump the double album, streamline their current project and pick the best songs, and record a single LP. Inspired by the power of their live concerts while touring for Tommy, the band harnessed that energy into remarkable performances on these brilliant songs. It's a bit of a transitional album for the band- moving them from their earlier pop-oriented tunes to a fuller (and louder) sound that was perfect for the “Arena Rock” phase of their career. Townsend introduced synthesizers to the band sound, providing these songs with a new rhythmic foundation. Who's Next finds the Who firing on all cylinders to create an album of remarkable breadth and depth.
As broadcast June 9, 2022 with plenty of podcast pinballs provided no quarters necessary. We mark two years since Bonnie Pointer met her demise, leaving only the eldest of the original Pointer Sisters as the lone survivor. We had a smattering of new tunes to cover this week in our Sampled funk & soul first hour, but also had a lot of recent joints that we kind of slept on, with John Batiste, Danielle Ponder, The Frightnrs, and Lettuce being highlights of a strong first half. Dan Lloyd once again kicks in the door and makes us call him uncle in hour 2 for our AMPED rock feature, with a lotta good, a lotta bad, and a generally mixed bag heading to the end of the show. However, as usual, our guy on the drums had his fun too, with a hilarious mashup of the new Muse tune with Gary Glitter highlighting how derivative and ridiculous that latest single is from the former.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)The Pointer Sisters – Pinball Number CountDanielle Ponder – The Only Way OutMickey De Grand IV – GeraldineJon Batiste – TELL THE TRUTHJungle – PROBLEMZLettuce – Vamanos Part II (31:33)Haley Johnsen – EmilyYola & The Highwomen feat Cheryl Crow – Hold OnEl Michels Affair feat Bobby Oroza – Stack The DeckThe Frightnrs – AlwaysMaverick Sabre – Good ManKatalyst feat Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad – JuneteenthBrian Jackson – Nancy Wilson (Shigeto remix) Part III (66:53)Panic! Welcome to another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. This time we should re-title it, “Should Be Huge!!!” as this is an active and current band featuring members of other much heavier sounding bands. We are talking this week about the side project of the Swedish metal bands Soilwork and Arch Enemy: the amazingly awesome retro-sounding band THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA! Imagine if Foreigner, Toto, and Survivor had a metal love child and you get this awesome band. If you don't know this band, or if you are only vaguely familiar with them; do yourself a favor and check this out. You may want to put on your workout gear and set up your phone to record a video because you're going to want to create an awesome montage while listening to this! This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that has mastered the ability to recreate those fist pumpingly perfect sounds of AOR / Arena Rock gold that originally existed in the late 70s / early 80s. Unfortunately, their brilliance and innovation in reviving this genre have not been recognized on this side of the Atlantic as much as it deserves. We think they SHOULD BE HUGER… and we are ready to fly that banner proudly!Songs this week include:The Night Flight Orchestra – “Stella Ain't No Dove” from Internal Affairs (2012)The Night Flight Orchestra - “Living For The Nighttime” from Skyline Whispers (2015)The Night Flight Orchestra - “Gemini” from Amber Galactic (2017)The Night Flight Orchestra - “The Last Of The Independent Romantics” from Sometimes The World Ain't Enough (2018)The Night Flight Orchestra - “Divinyls” from Aeromantic (2020)The Night Flight Orchestra - “Midnight Marvelous” from Aeromantic II (2021)The Night Flight Orchestra – “Domino” from Amber Galactic (2017)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Interview with The Arena Rock Show
Hosted by Band Central Radio's Andy Kadison, this program highlights the musical themes of Band Central's live shows. This includes a look and listen to the original music that has inspired our Motown, Latin, British Invasion, Arena Rock and 80's/90's themed events. In addition, this episode showcases five not-for-profit organizations at the heart of each of these themed events including: Woofgang & Co, Creative Connections, CLASP Homes, Mission-CT Challenge, and Sterling House. The show features great music, information about these wonderful charities, and some anecdotes and conversation.
This is the first episode of That Arena Rock Show the podcast. It just made sense to have That Arena Rock Show the band be the first guest. That Arena Rock Show is a 70's & 80's rock tribute band. The band has traveled all over the midwest and recently made a stop in Cincinnati, OH on August 8th. It was the bands first show since the pandemic. Seebass caught up with them before their show and chatted about their beginnings and were they are now. We hope you enjoy this first episode!

Can you write art from the back of a tour bus? This episode, the hosts are lamenting the end of summer while listening to April Wine's Harder... Faster to determine "Is It a Classic?". Find out this episode of The Classic Rock Album-By-Album Podcast!
A band known for the hits and for drunk college girls singing at the top of their lungs... Journey The guys try to create their Ultimate 10 Song Set List for legendary Arena Rock band that still is touring today.
Queen is a fitting name because this band royally sucks. Arena Rock is just another word for pandering on as huge a scale as possible. Write two jock jams and coast on filler. Way to go, guys. Maybe next time you can do one about a cat pissing? Half this band's "biggest fans" know ten of their songs and they only even really like five of those, so what gives? Wait... Is Queen actually music? Or is this something else... Huge crowds of people, stomping their feet and chanting... Something about this is familiar... Also, Brian May is a nerd.
Hairball is a Rock & Roll experience you won't forget. A band puts on a concert – Hairball puts on an event! The lights, sound, video screens, smoke, fire, blood, bombs, confetti, spiders, snakes & monsters (oh my) and the screaming hoards of rabid Hairball fans create an event – an event that hits you so hard, it'll take a few days to recover! Rock & Roll will NEVER die!!! Vocalists Bobby, Steve and Joe Dandy lead the band through a 2+ hour, mind-blowing, and drop-dead accurate homage to some of the biggest arena acts in the world. Van Halen, KISS, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey, and Aerosmith are but a few of the acts fans will see brought to life. The Hairball stage becomes an entirely new rock concert before your very eyes countless times throughout the night. The motor that drives the Hairball dragster consists of Freaky on the electric bass, Blake on the drums, and Happy on the lead guitar. These Rock & Roll soldiers pride themselves on nailing some of the most memorable licks and chops of all time, while adding their own style and flare that they've cultivated over decades of tireless performing. These guys live and breathe Rock & Roll! 2016 finds Hairball celebrating its 16th year of rocking hundreds of thousands of people across the country. Every day it adds more characters, more pyrotechnics, more lights, more sound, more props, more surprises…more everything! While Happy often tells the audience “Today is the first day is the rest of your life!” Hairball performs every show as though it could be its last. Every night is a 100% full-on, no-holds-barred, exciting, chaotic, fiery party that has to be experienced to be believed! As important to Hairball as the music are its fans. While many bands claim to have the best fans in the world, Hairball actually has! Whether they're 8 or 85, Hairball fans bring an unparalleled enthusiasm and energy to the show that completes the Arena Rock experience. Hairball knows it wouldn't exist without its fans, and takes every opportunity to let them know that. Whether it's a pre-show meet and greet, hanging out at the merch booth, or chatting online, Hairball has a lot in common with its fans and it's always a good time when they get together. Don't confuse Hairball with the countless “'80s Tribute” bands across the country. Hairball is an event; an attitude and expression of music and showmanship that isn't a retro-flashback. It's a way of life…and it's not going away! @VisitBrookings @HairballTweet @VooDooLoungeKC #HairBands #SlackerMorningShow101theFox #TMobile
