Toren van Babel is een nieuwe maandelijkse serie binnen de Architectenweb Podcast. Hierin praat architect Daan Roggeveen (MORE Architecture) met ontwerpers, ontwikkelaars en andere experts die allemaal hun eigen perspectief hebben op hoogbouw. Doel is het antwoord vinden op de vraag: hoe maak je nu een echt goed hoog gebouw? De derde gast in deze serie is Bas van Dam, partner bij Being Development. Ons eerst gesprek tijdens Google Cloud Summit 2019 in Amsterdam RAI. Velen van ons kennen de Google home smart speaker wel, en dan met name het filmpje waarin een Google Assistent een telefonisch een afspraak maakt met een kapper. Neem die in het groot en voor bedrijven en dan heb je Dialogflow. Deze tool stelt bedrijven in staat om hun processen (Flows) middels sprekende bots in te richten, feitelijk met klikken en slepen kun je een flow van gesprekken met klanten organiseren. We spreken met Lee Boonstra Developer Advocate bij Google en expert in Dialogflow over hoe je een tool als deze snel en slim in kunt zetten, bijvoorbeeld binnen contact centers van bedrijven. En natuurlijk moeten we even praten over AutoML en hoe developers zonder Data Science achtergrond hiermee aan de slag kunnen. Amsterdam RAI wil als bruggehoofd fungeren voor nieuwe economieën met China als speerpunt. Nu al zijn er van de 16000 bedrijven die in de RAI komen per jaar ruim 1000 uit China. De RAI wil deze markt sterk uitbouwen. Ze zal hiervoor Chinese mensen aannemen, werken aan wayfinding voor Chinese bezoekers, etc.De stad AmsterdamDe relatie met de stad Amsterdam is volgens Bakker prima nu:“In het verdere verleden was er soms sprake van een moeizame verhouding tussen bedrijfsleven en gemeentebestuur. Dat is nu weg.”De betekenis is voor alle partijen nu helder. 1 Euro in de RAI doet 4 Euro in stad.De betekenis van de RAI voor stad en regio ligt jaarlijks tussen 700 miljoen en de 1 miljard.Bakker over het belang van een broadcast event als de IBC: “Tijdens een IBC event pompen we in een week 80 miljoen de stad in.”De relatie met de stad is goed nu. RAI is een private onderneming en betaalt netjes divident aan de gemeente Amsterdam.Bakker: “Dat is prettig, het maakt ons onafhankelijk. We moeten gewoon winst maken”.Wat moet Amsterdam beter doen?Vorig jaar verloor Amsterdam RAI een event aan Barcelona. De gemeente daar betaalde zelf 2 ton bij. Soms ga je misschien langs de grenzen van staatssteun, maar wat meer toeschietelijkheid met bijvoorbeeld faciliteiten (denk aan gratis openbaar vervoer) zou wat Bakker betreft mogen.AutoRAIHet niet doorgaan van de AutoRAI was een aderlating voor de RAI. Of ie nog terugkomt? Hans Bakker heeft zijn twijfels en zet vraagtekens bij de terugkeer van een AutoRAI zoals wij hem in het verleden kenden. Alhoewel autoshows altijd zullen blijven.BaasWat maakt Hans Bakker tot slot een goeie baas?Volgens de CEO gaat het om echte aandacht aan zijn mensen, echt geïnteresseerd zijn, een veilig en warm klimaat creëren waarbinnen mensen kunnen vlammen.Op de vraag hoelang hij nog aanblijft als CEO meldt Hans:“Ergens augustus 2016 krijg ik AOW, maar op een bepaald moment moet je ook het moment vinden dat je zegt, nou jongens, de nieuwe generatie moet het ook weer overpakken, we hebben goeie mensen dus ....nog een paar jaartjes... maar het zo leuk, zo veelzijdig, dat maak je zelden mee.”
