I gave EF Education EasyPost DS, Tom Southam, a call to go over everything we've seen in the second week of the Tour and preview what's coming up.  Kicking off with a recap of everything that's gone down both in and around the race last week, and it started with a dominant victory from Pogačar in Le Lioran. Some amazing instincts from Søren Wærenskjold saw him win the bunch sprint on stage 11 to continue Uno-X Mobility's success, before Tim Merlier reminded everyone that he's the fastest sprinter in the race with his third stage win of the Tour the next day.  Stage 13 saw Mauro Schmid power his way into the mega break and grab a stage win for Jayco, so who better to chat to than his team mate, and regular “guest” on the Pod, Durbo. It was great to hear from Luke as he enjoys a well-earned rest day, and he gave us a great scoop on the team's tactics and how their game plan played out pretty much perfectly.  The two mountain stages on the weekend weren't the only drama - a 2 am dope test for Jonas and Pogi had the media buzzing, so I had to ask Southam what he knows and what he's heard from the ground. Is it a bit of a flex from WADA, or is there something going on?!  With Jonas' abandonment, and a mountain TT coming up, can Remco Evenepoel bag another stage win and close the gap to Pogi? Will Del Toro finish on the final podium? What about the green jersey battle between Pedersen and Philipsen? There's still so much to come, and I can't bloody wait to see how it plays out. In Washington state, the revolution is eating its own. Tijdens de eerste échte echte bergetappe grijpt UAE het peloton bij de strot. Ze leggen er een moordend tempo op, waardoor Pogacar halverwege de Tourmalet aanvankelijk met Del Toro weg kan springen. Daarna begint er een oefening in schadebeperking voor Vingegaard en het soepje. In etappe 4 declasseert Pedersen zijn medevluchters na uitstekend werk van zijn teamgenoten. Host Diana Korte speaks with naval aviator Dan Pedersen, author of  “TOPGUN. An American Story,” who was the boss of the group that formed the elite Navy Fighter Weapons School. Also known as the TOPGUN program, it began in Miramar, California 57 years ago.  CLASSIC. I'm re-airing this 2019 conversation with Dan in 4th of July week because his advice at the end of it, in particular, is a good reminder of the wages of war.    In this fast-paced memoir Dan, who enlisted in the US Navy in 1953, accumulated 7,000 flight hours and 1,014 carrier landings while flying 39 types of aircraft. He looks back at his personal life as well as his Navy aviation career from Miramar and Area 51 to the decks of aircraft carriers in war and peace.   Pilots from this famous school flew aerial scenes, including those of the Grumman F-14 Tomcats, in the 1986 movie, TOPGUN.

This week, Will and James are joined by Lidl-Trek's head coach, Mattias Reck. Born and raised in Sweden, like most people in his profession Mattias started out racing as a pro before moving into performance coaching. In 2017 he joined Trek-Segafredo, where he soon found himself nurturing the talents of a young Mads Pedersen (Swedish and Danish languages are pretty similar, says Mattias, which certainly helped with coaching). Today that relationship continues – Mads is something like family now – albeit Mattias is also personally responsible for a host of other riders, ‘mostly the Danish ones' plus women's WorldTour stars Shirin van Anrooij and Fleur Moors. We joined Mattias just after Paris-Roubaix, where Pedersen had finished seventh. Not quite the result the team was hoping for at the start of the Classics campaign but a victory of sorts given Pedersen's awful crash at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana at the beginning of February, which saw him undergo surgery and only return to racing in late March. Here, Mattias explains such emotional highs and lows of rider and coach when the proverbial hits the fan; the mental fortitude needed for rehab; and the care teams give to their riders, from check-ins to chats with team psychologists to the role of e-cycling platforms such as Rouvy for rehab. In June 2023, she created and distributed flyers urging residents to contact town officials and oppose plans for a rainbow/Progress Pride crosswalk in Westlock, citing concerns over its association with specific ideological symbols. Benjamin Pedersen cut his teeth in motorsports on the open-wheel racing ladder both domestically in F4 and F3 Americas as well as in the UK racing in the British F3 Championship. After multiple race wins and podium finishes he graduated to Indy Lights and then to the NTT IndyCar Series racing full-time for AJ Foyt in 2023. Moving to the LMP2 prototype class the following year in both IMSA and European Le Mans Series (ELMS), Pedersen joined the Vasser Sullivan IMSA GTD program this year and won the 2026 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in only his third start! Aaron Telitz is in his eighth season with the team and in addition to being the 2020 Sprint Cup driver's champion, he also helped the team secure the team and manufacturer's championships in the same year. Telitz also worked his way up the open-wheel ladder having raced in karts for many years before moving into the U.S. F2000 National Championship earning a win and six podiums. From there, he won the 2016 Pro Mazda Championship beating current Indy car start Pato O'Ward. Wins continued in Indy Lights and he earned the honor of testing on Indy car for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. He joined the Vasser Sullivan team to drive in the endurance races which included a second-place finish at Daytona before becoming a full-time driver for the team. We caught up with both of these winners just after their winning post-race press conference at the 2026 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Enjoy!

My friends Andy and Stephanie (LDS parents of 4; living in Vancouver, Washington) join us to share their story.
