What really happens in a Broadway audition room, and how do you get remembered down the line, even if you don't land the role?Broadway casting director Peter Van Dam joins me to discuss what really goes into casting a show, from open calls that launch careers to the quiet instinct it takes to build a cast that feels right. You learn something new every day. At least, that's how the saying goes. But it's not always how the reality goes – particularly when it comes to our work. Even though 84% of us feel like learning adds more purpose to our work, demanding deadlines and overflowing inboxes often stop us from finding time to focus on our own development. But being given the time and space to learn new things can lead to some seriously good things, like new opportunities, career growth and improved mental wellbeing. And what's good for us, is good for business too. In fact, research shows that organisations who invest in learning and development are 59% more likely to experience growth. Which could be why workplace learning is back on the agenda. Once associated with bad coffee and badly lit conference rooms, it's now benefiting from better technology and better understanding of the different ways in which we learn. So, what needs to happen to ensure that learning doesn't keep getting moved to the bottom of our to-do list? And instead, it becomes a continuous process that's rewarding for both individuals and the businesses they work for? That's what we're exploring with guests Professor Nick van Dam, Chief of the IE University Center for Corporate Learning Innovation, and Heike Dekker-Schäch, Dean at Deloitte University, in this episode of The Green Room, as we ask: How can learning be part of our everyday work? Tune in to find out: Whether ‘on the job' really is the best way to learn What a ‘learning climate' is and how businesses can influence it Why we all need to consider the next chapter of our careers – regardless of our age How workplace learning is linked to business success Enjoyed this episode?
Send us a textIn today's episode, I'm thrilled to sit down with the brilliant Anne van Dam, an educator, leader, and consultant with a wealth of experience working in schools across the globe. And in our conversation, Anne shares her unique journey—from her early days as a learner to her current work helping schools and organizations build cultures that bring out the best in everyone.Although she's most recognized for her expertise in early years learning, Anne's knowledge spans far beyond that as she brings deep insights into leadership, team culture, collaboration, and what it takes to help schools thrive in today's ever-changing educational landscape.Anne opens up about her personal journey—reflecting on how her early learning experiences shaped her as an educator and leader. We also discuss whether or not school helped her discover her passion and what might have better supported her learning during her formative years.Having worked extensively in a variety of schools and roles around the world, Anne has invaluable perspectives on the role of culture in schools and organizations, so hearing that in mind, we also explore how the relationships we build shape the environments we create and the conditions necessary to foster a culture that elevates everyone involved. We also dive into how the best educators and leaders use language to inspire and empower those around them and how the words we choose—especially in key moments—can have a profound impact on success.Another key theme we discuss is the power of personal narrative—how the stories we tell ourselves shape not only our mindset but also our learning and growth. Anne reflects on the pivotal moments in her life that shifted her perspective and helped her evolve as a wife, parent, educator, and leader.Even if you're not an educator, there's plenty in this episode that will help you understand the need for continuous growth and learning in life—and how to prioritize what truly matters.I encourage you to connect with Anne—after hearing today's episode. You can find out more about her in the show notes. Although Anne has been a guest on the podcast before, this is our first face-to-face interview, which we recorded last weekend in Budapest, Hungary. It was such a pleasure meeting her in person and getting to know her better. Thanks for listening. Did those chapters have different authors? Dr. Cornelis van Dam joins to talk about the authority of scripture, and how we should be listening to what is in Genesis 1 and 2. A conversation with Maarten van Dam, founder of Schevichoven Regenerative farm, about numbers when transitioning from conventional to regenerative agriculture and keeping records on inputs, prices, and machinery. Maarten is keeping a lot of records of their pioneering farm transitioning from a mono dairy farm to a diverse agroforestry system.Remember the Dutch farming protests? What do we miss when we talk about the transition from conventional to regenerative? We miss numbers numbers numbers. Many of the pioneers- rightfully so- didn't keep good records, on inputs, prices, machinery and, of course, hours. Nobody tracks hours in agriculture. What does it cost per hectare, and what off-take do you need? With a minimum of 50K euro per hectare in the Netherlands, you can transition in about 7 years to a diverse perennial agroforestry system, only counting wholesale prices, counting all your hours, and paying a fair wage. Of course, at Schevichoven they are only in year 4, so all of that has to be proven. But what does it mean for the rest of the 50.000 farmers in the Netherlands? What are the types of regen systems they can apply? We need about 150 billion to transition them. It sounds like a lot, but is doable.---------------------------------------------------Join our Gumroad community, discover the tiers and benefits on www.gumroad.com/investinginregenag.
