In Radio Meerdijk een blik op de vele wijzigingen aan De Oude Meerdiik in de selectie, staf en clubleiding. Te gast is supporter en sponsor Dènis Assen. Hoe kan FC Emmen de harten van supporters en sponsoren heroveren? Ondernemer Assen verwerkte het rampseizoen van zijn club op geheel eigen wijze. Hij analyseerde de wedstrijden en bekeek zelfs alle 72 tegentreffers terug. Zijn conclusie is niet mals. „We zijn nooit met dezelfde basis gestart, er zijn dik dertig spelers gebruikt en Menno van Dam koos elf verschillende spelsystemen'', beschrijft hij het recept voor tegenvallers. „Wij wilden zelf heel goed spelen, maar werden vrij eenvoudig bespeeld, zeker na de winterstop toen tegenstanders ons voor de tweede keer troffen. Veertig procent van alle tegendoelpunten kwam voort uit balverlies. Zonder Luca Unbehaun op doel hadden we er misschien wel 100 om de oren gekregen'', stelt de zelfverklaard ‘Keukentafel-td' van Emmen. ­ Assen twijfelde net als veel andere ondernemers over een verlenging van zijn sponsorcontract met de club, maar keert toch weer terug op zijn vertrouwde stekkie. „Dat komt ook omdat mensen als Ernst Söllner en Henk Eising hun rol pakken. Dat zijn echte ondernemers die geen nee kennen en het onmogelijke weten te realiseren. Juist dat heeft de club nu nodig.'' Zowel de ‘as' van de organisatie als die van het hernieuwde elftal gaan ondertussen flink op de schop. In Radio Meerdijk bespreekt Assen samen met clubwatcher Pim Siegers en presentator William Pomp het verlanglijstje van de club, met daarop opvallend veel toppers uit het amateurvoetbal en ex-spelers van Cambuur. ­ Dat coach Menno van Dam de kans krijgt om uit de nieuwe spelersgroep een goed elftal te smeden lijkt inmiddels een zekerheidje. „Dat Van Dam op de bok blijft in Emmen wordt met de dag duidelijker en met Björn Zwikker krijgt hij een talentvolle toevoeging aan zijn staf. Hertentamen voor de trainer dus'', vertelt Siegers. De mannen aan tafel bij Radio Meerdijk hadden maar wat graag een voorbeschouwing opgenomen over de leukste tijd van het jaar in de eerste divisie: play-off-voetbal. Voormalig vaste klant FC Emmen neemt voor het tweede seizoen op rij niet deel. Supporter en vaste gast Bernard Gepken gaat met een forse kater de zomerstop in. „Ik beschouw mezelf als een optimistische supporter, andere noemen dat soms naïef, maar aan het einde van dit seizoen voel ik me toch een beetje voor de gek gehouden door de club.'' Volgens Gepken verdient juist ook het werk van de technische staf een kritische blik. „Ze stonden erbij en keken ernaar. Hoe kon je dit nu laten gebeuren, waarom stond niemand op de rem? Het concept cultuurbewaker werkt niet, dus dan is het tijd voor een cultuuromslag.'' Weer op achterstand Clubwatcher Pim Siegers vreest dat FC Emmen ook volgend seizoen met een grote achterstand op de concurrentie begint aan een nieuw seizoen. „Terwijl andere clubs spelers verlengen en vastleggen, zijn ze bij Emmen bezig de chaos te managen. Het is ook tijd dat de club snel duidelijkheid geeft of Menno van Dam volgend seizoen de hoofdtrainer is.'' Van Dam lijkt daar in ieder geval zelf van overtuigd en speurde dit weekend langs de amateurvelden al naar nieuwe pupillen. Zo staat de lange middenvelder Noach Shenkman van AFC op het verlanglijstje van coach en club. Riepko Buikema zoekt samen met zijn gasten naar de lichtpuntjes van het seizoen en zodoende komen ook de prachtige publiekswissels tegen De Graafschap en de grootste voetbaltalenten van Emmen ter sprake. Verder ook een inkijkje in de komende oefencampagne. Meer expected goals en bijna dertig doelpogingen klinkt leuk, maar je koopt er niets voor bij verlies'', stelt Siegers. Toch is van een crisis nog geen sprake. De directie en hoofdtrainer weten zichzelf nog stevig in het zadel, en krijgen daarbij steun van de achterban.
