On an affiliate preview edition of the FutureSox Podcast Ian Eskridge and James Fox were joined by the play-by-play voice of the Winston-Salem Dash, Andrew Murphy. They begin the show with Andrew breaking down the "Prom" series that wasn't supposed to happen against the Rome Emperors. The gents go through the rotation, hitting all the big points - all returning arms, the step up from all guys from previous years, and Tanner McDougal is still nasty. The pen has shown some ebbs and flows early, but there are some good arms coming through Winston. Versatility is a mainstay in the Winston position player group, and Andrew breaks down all of the guys in the lineup. Pat Leyland has a lot of useful guys, and they run through them all.
#743 Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/743 Presented By: Fish The Fly, FishHound Expeditions, Yellowstone Teton Territory, Jackson Hole Fly Company We've had episodes on fly fishing the Gaspé Peninsula before: the famous rivers, active Atlantic salmon to the surface, and why it's a fantastic destination. You'll learn how to fish for salmon, stripers, and even sea-run brook trout, all on the same trip. By the end of this one, you'll have the knowledge, and probably the itch, to book your Gaspé adventure. Let's go! Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/743

I get this. It's not deliberate, but it's not deliberate either. There are probably ways to create a more accessible web presence, and to bring the various things I've worked on or been associated with into some kind of useful order. But that seems like quite a lot of work and I'm not wildly into doing lots of extra work. I really enjoy being a bit hidden and just getting on with my work. (For reference see Themis House in the upcoming “Who Is Aldrich Kemp?”, coming to your radios on February 18th, 2022.) That people have to do a bit of digging to find me suits me just fine. It's like a hazing process; the people who get through seem to be more interesting. So now you are here, this is what you might want to know: I am a London-based writer and director working in film, TV, and audio. In the past, I have worked, either as a writer or director or both, on Spooks (MI-5 if you're in the US), Hustle, Hotel Babylon, New Tricks, and Doctor Who. My TV work in the UK pretty much stopped dead in about 2016. This wasn't by design, but I wrote a TV pilot script that got a lot of attention in America and that has been where the majority of my work has been coming from since then. That work has been mostly writing and, because nothing has yet been produced (watch this space), the credits do not yet show up on my IMDb page and I am legally not allowed to talk about any of them. My official “work” website is at juliansimpson.uk. Many people have said they find this unhelpful. Those people might be missing the point. In or around 2019 I co-founded a storytelling/world-building company called Storypunk. That does not yet have a website but it will, soon, and in the meantime, we have made a sci-fi podcast series called TEMPORAL which is out to distributors as I type this (Feb 2022). I have also made a number of audio dramas, including the “Lovecraft Investigations” podcast series, details of most of which are on the Radio and Podcasts page and can be investigated in-depth on the Pleasant Green Universe wiki on TV Tropes and on my Wikipedia page. There isn't a veil of secrecy around what I do, but there is a veil of laziness draped over the promotion of it. If you want to find me, I'm on Twitter (@CartoonGravity), on Instagram (somewhat reluctantly) as @cartoon_gravity, and on e-mail at cartoongravity@hey.com. I also have a portfolio of photographs on Format. I'm repped in the UK by Sean Gascoine at United Agents, and in the US by Jeff Barry at Range Media Partners and Andrew Murphy at Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment. I live in London with my wife and daughter and two quite annoying cats. This site is a kind of public scrapbook of thoughts, ideas, and random nonsense. Now you know as much about me as I do. Our guest today is comedian Andrew Murphy who, at the time of recording, will be hosting a live podcast at Cap City Comedy club. You probably won't be attending since you're a podcast listener, but we highly recommend his podcast Scumber Party that he hosts with comedians Ashley Sharma and Danny Goodwin. This isn't your ordinary comedian podcast where they sit around and talk about other comedians. The 'cast is set up like an adult sleep over with snacks, movie talk, and even ghost stories galore. It's a wicked, wild time. Check it out, and if you can catch 'em live we highly recommend you do so. Oh, also on today's Emily Explains It All, Emily opens up about her recently revived love for movie theaters and explains how you can make the most of your movie-going experience with her list of recommendations. And is Xbox going "woke"? Matt Bearden explores FOX News' strange fascination with a new Xbox feature that will help you save energy in your home. Apparently it's indoctrinating people. None of us know how saving money on utility bills is "going woke", but whatever. The Propaganda Machine continues to roar onward aimlessly. For his personal changes he chose to move from glass wine bottles to using canned or boxed wine, and to turn down the heat in his apartment building.

Today, we welcome Andrew Murphy. Andrew loves to build and work on his own antennas. Whether it's improving or rebuilding a commercial design, something that he has seen in a magazine, or one he has designed himself, Andrew has an antenna for every situation and band. What makes today's conversation with Andrew truly amazing is that Andrew doesn't have acres of property to play with. Most of his antennas are inside his apartment and they work great! What You Need to Know Andrew became interested in scanning by listening to storm chasers. He was originally from Alabama and every spring he would love to hear storm chasers on the radio. 90% Andrew's antennas are built from 14-gauge wire. Many designs are done for little money or investment. Andrew has antennas that work well for Shortwave, HF, VHF, and UHF. To help him model antennas, Andrew has a few applications and websites that he uses. Those are noted in the session links. If you were to start or build one antenna, Andrew recommends a J-Pole antenna. ====================================

In this episode we want to find out what the early creators of the term ”prisoners of conscience” had meant by it, and what motivated them to institutionalise this status legally. In 2021, Amnesty International celebrated its 60th anniversary. Since then, the organisation has played a key role in mobilising international support for political dissenters and dissidents. This protection often revolves around the act of assigning the status of a “prisoner of conscience” to a protected individual. We also want to go all the way back to the early modern history of political Dissent, associated with such figures as the Quaker William Penn, who had been imprisoned several times in the Tower of London for his religious views but later in life founded a colony in America which was to become one of the United States - Pennsylvania. The term “Dissenter” describes the experience of religious oppression under different ‘old regimes' in Europe. In more recent times, ‘dissent' has been associated with the activism of political dissidents under different oppressive regimes, from the Soviet Union or modern Russia to Myanmar and China. What is the relationship between the faith of dissenters and their political dissidence? At which point does the collision of dissenters with the cultural and legal system of their societies render them from powerless victims to powerful speakers and politicians? With us to discuss the long history of Dissent in politics are Tom Buchanan, Professor in British and European History at the Dept for Continuing Education at the University of Oxford and the author of Amnesty International and Human Rights Activism in Postwar Britain, 1945–1977 which came out in 2020 with Cambridge UP. Andrew Murphy, Professor for Political Science at VIrginia Commonwealth University and just published, in 2021, the political writings of William Penn for the Cambridge Texts in the History of Political Thought. He is also the author of a biography of William Penn. A Life. (Oxford UP, 2018). The episode also features exclusive recordings by Cy Grant, with the kind permission from his family and the London Metropolitan Archives Tracks featured: Psalm 137, By the Rivers of Babylon Untitled Calypso (recorded ca. 1976) Fayo (a Haitian lullaby)
