I speak with Janet Meeks. Janet is the author of Gracious Leadership, Lead Like You've Never Led Before. You will love getting the perspective from her because she has lived it, she's experienced it, and her amazing journey as a leader. She's going to talk from her book, which is such a simple read. Yet there are some very important basics in there. What should we expect from our leaders? There's an expectation we should have. As Janet mentions... I also believe that leaders need to be secure enough to understand they don't have all the answers and that leaders who try to hoard getting the results accomplished are really holding back the organization they need to trust their employees who are subject matter experts and free them, let them lie in the war, if you will, and be all they were created today so they can play at the top of their game. And then that leaves time and room for the person with the big title to be able to take on those difficult tasks that perhaps someone and other levels of the organization cannot. Coming up on July 30th is the 7th annual Brady Ware Women's Leadership Conference. Each year, 100% of the proceeds go to support women initiatives through non profit organizations within Ohio. This year our supporting non profits are the Better Business Bureau and the Women's Small Business Accelerator Many months ago when we began planning for this year's conference, we felt it best to err on the side of safety, so this year's conference will be held virtually. While this may not be the most ideal situation, it does allow for us to offer participants speakers that are nationally recognized as well as locally recognized women leaders. We're excited to be able to present keynote speaker, Peggy Klaus, author of 'Brag! How to toot your own horn without blowing it'. We'll start the morning with a lively discussion with a panel of women business owners and leaders. And to add to the excitement of the day, you'll be able to network, visit exhibitor tables and win wonderful prizes throughout the day! I would like to personally invite you to join us on July 30th. 18WT 016: After a bit of laughter and pug talk, Patrick and Janet get down to talking about Blended Families and what they are. Raise your hand if you are from a blended family and immediately Patrick gets a bit contrary. Janet brings the Ritz man back down to earth with saltine lady. That is from a previous podcast, from Patrick not wanting to be called Caucasian.Janet discusses Blended families. So, Julius Caesar, (Caligula) had sex with his half-sister and had children by her. She explains to Patrick that they did share the same father. Patrick is pretty grossed out by that, which leads to talk of Harem’s. And then do these still exist? Yes, but in America they do not refer to them as a Harem, but in certain society’s here in the states, there are one-man multiple wives allowed. Then back “in the day” in royalty, they in-bred cousins to keep the line pure. If a freak happened, well as Patrick says, they put Quasimodo in the dungeon and hid him from society.Janet is talking about how blended families have evolved, from Rome to the Old west or during the wars. There were widows or widowers and they got remarried so there was help either financially or physically to help raise the children. That still exists, also in the form of divorce now. As Janet says even tho she and Patrick are not married, she is essentially a Step-Monster. Episode #008 The year after her retirement from a management position, Janet was diagnosed with a terminal condition: brain cancer. Janet wants to share her story, "not because I want sympathy, because I feel well supported, but because sharing my journey I might help someone else." As Janet says, "there is not a family that is not touched by cancer so she hopes that by sharing her story of feeling better by spending time outside will help others." Right now Janet's time spent outdoors walking is much more limited. She "is weaker as a result of her chemotherapy treatments, and can't walk nearly as far."So she now spends her time in her "large yard, smelling the flowers and watching the second round of robin's eggs hatching on a tree right beside my deck. I love to watch the robins come and go. " When she looks out at the world, Janet has this kind of clarity and space – this open feeling of honesty that trees, shrubs, birds, little animals and plants provide. Janet is curious and engaged in her outdoor world – now her back yard. She has mature trees: spruce, crabapple, weeping caragana, and lilacs - and birds who love her trees. This year alone Janet's backyard bird list includes: rose breasted grosbeak, gold finches, orioles, cedar waxwings, nut hatches, pileated woodpeckers, robins, downy woodpeckers, wrens, blue jays, chickadees, mourning doves, wrens, and a wild turkey or two. When Janet is outside on her deck she is not ruminating on wanting to be somewhere else or someone else. She knows that there are some things that are out of her control and there are many more that she can control. Here Janet follows the lives of new robins in a nest and shares on our Ditch Inside For Outside facebook group. Janet knows that everything she does matters. Looking or going outside helps her to relate to herself, to her mind, and she knows she can influence and create goodness everywhere. Janet is smart, and she knows she has agency over moving her circumstances in a better direction. Janet’s sharing is a kind of grace that only comes with being in harmony with the way things are – something very powerful to be around. Through her story Janet is showing us the way to live and enjoy our minds in the deepest kind of way – to trust and have confidence in ourselves and our worlds around us. For me, she has given so much. She was the first person to buy my book Take Back Your Outside Mindset. Janet says that all along she knew she better outside, but once she read my book, the science and tips helped to confirm this for her.Janet's advice to us : "Make the choice to be happy, to be grateful for that you can still do" "Get out even if it is just in your yard or a small community park - even if you can't get out into the bush or along the shoreline.Breathe deep, just try to concentrate on what you are seeing and hearing at that moment - for me it is the different bird songs. And breathe in those tree aerosols they really do make a difference."For a complete transcript of this interview please go to my website Treesmendus.com
By age 22, Janet had graduated with a BA in Communications, majoring in Psychology, become a punk rock model, Dolly covergirl, movie actress, soapie star, restaurant owner, radio DJ and Australia’s youngest ever copywriter to win a Lion at Cannes. As co-founder of Oddfellows Ad agency, she went onto become the most controversial woman in advertising until, seeking a seachange, she and her family moved to north Queensland where they created a multi-million dollar waterfront property development. At 48, she had it all, except the one thing she’d spent her entire life chasing: the deep contentment that comes from knowing your true calling. It was a near death experience that provided the breakthrough she was looking for. Instead of seeing the proverbial light or hearing a choir of angels, the voice that came to her simply stated: “Janet, you’ve let everyone down.” In that second she knew precisely what it meant. What she thought was selfless sacrifice in looking after her family and chain of businesses was in fact selfishness. She had denied herself and the world her great gift as a teacher. Janet would spend the next 9 years immersing herself in Personal Development, gaining certification in NLP, Blair Singer’s Train the Trainer, Making the Stage, Master Facilitator, Ultimate Personal Development Program and Accelerated Learning and Master of Self Expression with Larry Gilman. A lifetime of studying human nature and her rollercoaster of successes and failures became the basis for her breakthrough workshops. As Janet says, “I’ve spent 40 years figuring out my place on the planet and if I can empower others to do the same and save them a decade or two in the process, I’ve done my job.”
In today’s new world, we need to do a better job establishing human connections. Listen as this week’s guest, Janet Schjins CEO of the JS Group, discusses her thoughts about returning from the pandemic to a new digital normal. We’re no longer in digital transformation we’re in a new digital normal. Steven and Janet discuss the need for relevant and actionable content and the importance of having a platform to communicate with your audience. Hear their thoughts on how people are shifting to social and the need to modify demand generation tactics to keep up with the movement. The need to invest in learning, new marketing tactics, and content that resonates in today’s world. As Janet says, “we all need to pull together to help the channel.“
Listener Janet emailed pods@rnz.co.nz about Brexitcast, a show she's got addicted to that features some top BBC journalists explaining what's going on with Brexit. As Janet writes "... it's very back-room. And surprisingly entertaining if not funny". We speak to the show's producer Dino Sofos and play clips from two episodes of 'Brexitcast' to give you a taster. 'Brexitcast' is presented by Laura Kuenssberg, Katya Adler, Adam Fleming and Chris Mason, produced by Dino Sofos (and engineered by NZer Edward Swift among others!) for BBC Radio 5 Live.
As Janet shares in this conversation, her work revolves around the idea of human figures. Even though her work is very close to what is usually described as a portrait, the characters in her paintings are usually invented and stem out of abstraction. In this conversation she shares where those portraits are most likely coming from and what does she think of them. A large part of Janet’s time is dedicated to teaching, she also shared with Marx the good, the bad and the okay of being a professor.
This week, we bring you an encore of the seventh episode in our From the Field series. During her first few months on the field in Central Asia, Janet struggled with loneliness and unexpected trials. Without the comforts of home to lean on, Janet knew that Jesus was the only hope she could cling to. As Janet and her team share the gospel in an unreached region, they are daily witnessing that God is bringing life to an otherwise spiritually dead country—and with this, they endure.

After the break from last weeks show Janet begins with an positive update from the recipients of the previous show's healings. Then, Karen writes in with an issue regarding food – fluctuating from starvation to overeating. As Janet and the HS perform the healing we find this issue stemming from various lifetimes filled with natural disasters, despair, betrayal and abandonment that has in turn manifested into Karens anxious feelings toward over stocking food and her opinions of ideal weight. Next, Eileen writes in about having trouble with her jaw when she sings because it protrudes out which; interestly enough, was from a life of being deformed with a large jaw where she had to overcompensate with creativity turning her lack into a comedy.
An interesting week as always for eurodollar traders, with the pair flip flopping between price congestion and extremely volatile moves. None more so than on Wednesday, following Ben's last meeting, changes in committee members, and the ongoing question of tapering. As Janet settles into the chair, market focus is now on the exotic currencies currently grabbing the headlines, and with risk on appetite evaporating, we may see further save haven buying in the short term.
