If you've got a question for me, record a brief voice memo introducing yourself & asking your question, then email it to chris@thebeerscholar.com

Anyway, A couple of good beers that need a little help, which hopefully is what they got. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

While discussing this delightfully strong Belgian beer style, we also dip in and out of conversations about serving beer in schools, offensive beer names, and the DTs. Oh, and there are some spoilers for the 2015 film The VVitch, so consider yourself warned.
The Brew is Out There! A few episodes back - Denny got to taste Drew's beer and now the tables are turned! Drew tastes and discusses with Denny two of his beers - A Belgian Golden Strong and a Veterans' Blend IPA. Are they any good? Tomasz Kopyra (https://blog.kopyra.com) w serii Piwne Style przedstawia Belgian Golden Strong Ale. Piwa w tym stylu zwane są czasami klonami piwa Duvel, które jest najsłynniejszym przedstawicielem tego stylu.
Final gravity the show where we take evaluation to a whole new level beyond judging. We evaluate recipe to glass. This is not a style show, its a “Your Beer” show. Unlike blind judging, Brandon Martin and James Lallande will evaluate you beer along side of your recipe and process based on what You wanted to brew then provide perception, feedback, and a little unsolicited advice. In this first episode, we examine a customer submitted Belgian Golden Strong and a listener submitted Chocolate Hazelnut Porter.
Ep10 - Dad Life Road Trip, the Kardashians, and We're Leaving NeverlandWe're having some fun on this episode. Cody is bringing us a Belgian Golden Strong from Manhattan Project Beer Company in Dallas, TX. We had a difference of opinion on the packaging style for Wise Monkeys, but the taste delivered (2:32). Chuck went to the movies for Captain Marvel (7:16) and discovered a new hero (10:20). One of the Kardashian sisters is worth a lot of money, which leads to our ranking of the Kardashians. Plus, Chuck reveals that he loves one of them and she has missed her chance (13:37). Cody got brave and took his crew on a four hour road trip, and of course, this leads to his thoughts on getting in the car for that long with kids (20:34). We teased it last week and we are diving into the HBO documentary, Leaving Neverland. This was not an easy topic to discuss, but it was a mind blower to say the least (29:39). Chuck brings up a dude that almost got swallowed by a whale (50:00) and Wal-Mart is rolling out a new strategy to gain revenue, but people aren't really thrilled with the consequences. On the Sports Update, the Antonio Brown saga is over and an update on the English Premier League table (54:54). Stay tuned. This week we try our ESC Blonde Ale and then dive into the Belgian Golden Strong Category
In this episode, we go over a recent listener request--washing yeast for future use, then we dive into our next Belgian style, category 25C Belgian Golden Strong. To start, yeast washing is an area we get questions about fairly often and surprisingly we find that the concept is new to many long-time homebrewers. Basically, why not take that fresh yeast cake from a recent batch and save all those viable cells to use in a next or a far future batch. Because not only is what you collect generally in better shape than what you originally bought, it will make for a much easier starter when you need it. Plus, you can always keep a preserved batch of something special for later use. After that, we dive into our next Belgian style segment. This time covering the popular Belgian Golden Strong. And along the way, shenanigans. So, hopefully you enjoy!
In this episode, we discuss style 25C, Belgian Golden Strong Ale. Beers tasted include: Duvel (15:44) Piraat (29:21) Biere Du Boucanier (39:22) Delirium Tremens (48:05)
In this episode of brewnology we start out by tasting a listeners submission for review, a Baltic Porter. After that we talk about doing retakes too soon after your initial exam. For the style examination and taste along, we jump in Belgian Golden Strong with Piraat from Brouwerij Van Steenberge. Finally we round out our hop discussion with hops part 2. It should be noted that we are upgrading our studio in an attempt to bring you better sound quality. This upgrade seems to have affected the mic gain (in that we should turn it down), so we obviously have to adjust down in the next episode. So there is some unevenness in the recording between Dean's mic and my mic.
In this episode of Brewing With Style, Jamil and Tasty discuss BJCP style 1A - Light American Lager. Best known for examples from the large American macro breweries, this style has endured as the most popular American style of beer by volume. With very little in terms of big flavor to hide behind, it is a challenging style to brew and get right in keeping to its very clean lager characteristics. Tune in and listen to the guys evaluate commercial examples, as well as talk about how you can homebrew one at home.
This week I discuss Belgian Strong Ale Recipes with Michael Mraz from Mraz Brewing Company. Michael tells us how to brew the perfect Belgian Golden Strong including the grain bill, hop schedule, fermenting and finishing your beer. The full video and show notes for this episode can be found here.
Homebrewing beer. This is one devil of a beer. Jamil and Jon discuss brewing this strong, but highly drinkable Belgian treat. Jamil provides his award winning recipe for this style.
