Each DVD came about before the proliferation of Youtube and smartphones with decent audio and video capture properties, so they were welcome additions to the catalog. 5 Gallons of Diesel (2005) and Fancy (2007) work to define specific eras of Claypool's career, and we haven't seen anything like them since. In this episode, host Zach Urness talks with two Oregon researchers that just published a study about a massive underground aquifer below the Central Cascade Mountains east of Salem and Eugene. Leif Karlstrom, a University of Oregon earth scientist, and Gordon Grant, a hydrologist with the U.S. Forest Service, discuss an aquifer they estimate as containing 81 cubic kilometers of freshwater — or roughly as much water contained in three Lake Meads, the largest reservoir in the United States. Karlstrom and Grant talk about how the aquifer is formed, where it's located (roughly between Mount Jefferson and south of McKenzie Pass) and why it's important in a warming future. They also talk about how it fuels many of Oregon's most famous rivers and spurs dramatic volcanic eruptions at places such as Sand Mountain.

Detailed Description of Weaver's Motor Fuels Tax Minute, Episode 4200:00:00Leanne: Welcome to Weaver's Motor Fuels Tax Minute, the vlog where we talk all things motor fuel. This week Kelly is going to go back to the basics and talk about net billed or gross gallons.00:00:11Kelly: All right. Well before we go too far back into the basics, we're going to get a little technical to start off because this gets a little bit scientific. We're going to talk about a law of nature known as thermal expansion. So gross gas volume refers to what leaves the rack, and the net volume refers to the amount of gas the customers receive, which is temperature corrected to 60°F. So why does that matter? Well, you can see on our little graphic that when fuel moves from a tanker truck, that might be at above 60 degrees, into a storage tank that is at a lower degree, our fuel will shrink. Now we can all think from a marketing perspective, as the customer, you're probably not too thrilled with that at this point. But on the flip side, when we move from a cooler truck into a hotter storage tank, our fuel will expand. So probably right now as a supplier, you're not happy because your customer is going to get more or less based on the temperature control. So, here's where we get a little bit back to the basics with fuel tax. Where it matters for our purposes, outside of the marketing realm, is that states will require you to report based on net, gross, or billed. Billed will be whatever you bill to your customer, whatever's on the invoice. That could be net or gross, but you'll want to make sure that you report the correct gallons so that you are reporting the correct tax to the state. That can also result in some gain or loss that you could see a little bit of savings from or even a little bit of a loss from. So, it is going back to the basics, but we do get technical here.00:01:51Emilda: That's true, Kelly. And I don't think that a lot of people know this, you hear the term gross net difference, they don't really apply that in certain regions in the United States. There are certain regions that are hotter, then in other regions it's colder so you always have that fuel expansion going on, and so there is a gross or net variance with inventory. So, good point. Max talks with Eric Peterson, Director of Santa Clara County Airports, discussed the landmark arrival of G100UL, an unleaded 100-octane aviation gasoline, at Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose, making it the first airport in the U.S. to offer GAMI's G100UL fuel. Santa Clara County, motivated by studies linking lead exposure to nearby airports, decided to phase out leaded fuels in 2022, initially adopting Swift's UL94 fuel. However, the new G100UL caters to aircraft needing higher-octane fuel, expanding lead-free options for pilots. To encourage adoption, GAMI is offering incentives: aircraft based at Reid-Hillview and San Martin Airports can receive the required Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for free by following certain steps, while Bay Area pilots who buy an STC by November 1 can get 25 gallons of free G100UL. Peterson highlighted challenges in sourcing G100UL due to limited distribution channels, which required direct contracting with the manufacturer Vitol Aviation. Currently priced at $6.99 per gallon, the fuel may decrease in cost once rail delivery becomes available. With EPA regulations pushing for lead-free aviation fuel, Peterson emphasized that the shift is imminent, positioning Reid-Hillview as a national leader in environmentally sustainable aviation practices. Millions of gallons of water is being saved in one Utah city by mandating smart meters on homes to measure water by the day. The meters can prevent days or months of leaks with sensors that send messages to the base stations. So far, enough water has been saved to supply more than 400 homes with water for a year. Lee Thompson (Cape Fear, Guns of the Navarone, Mackenna's Gold, 10 to Midnight), scored by Jerry Goldsmith (Alien, Patton, Chinatown, Papillon), and starring Richard Chamberlain (The Towering Inferno, The Thorn Birds, Shogun), Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct, The Quick and the Dead, Sliver), and John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Sliders) this movie is a ROUGH ONE. What started as a potentially fun romp turned sour quickly with a sloppy bouillabaisse of tonal whiplash, not-so-casual racism, and BOREDOM. Sean handles the assignment with typical aplomb, but Brad has several nervous breakdowns throughout the course of the episode. This was supposed to be one of the more fun board choices.
